Rogue Trader OOC (40K, CLOSED)

Postby Morrdh » Thu Dec 20, 2018 10:00 pm

You are an Explorer, part of a proud dynasty of privateering merchant princes known as Rogue Traders. You are empowered by an ancient warrant of trade to seek out profit and plunder amongst the unexplored regions of space. You will discover forgotten mysteries, find lost human worlds, and behold sights never before seen by human eyes.

You must survive the dangers of space, not only the threat of vacuum, cold, and deadly radiation, but the things that lurk in the dark void between stars that Man was never meant to find.

Ambition Knows No Bound

Welcome to Rogue Trader, a roleplay of exploration, risk and savage might set in the decaying far future of Warhammer 40,000.

Vast fortunes await on the edges of the galaxy, if you and your fellow Explorers can muster the courage to find and claim them. Renown and riches reward the bold, but the unwary find only anonymous deaths. A Rogue Trader who can wrest profits from a dangerous universe through luck, cunning, or sheer force of will enjoys something few humans in the 41st Millennium even know - a life of adventure and true freedom.

Such a course, however, is often fraught with peril. Foul aliens, pernicious raiders, and even other Rogue Traders stand in your way on the path to greatness. Your wits, luck, skill, and courage will be tested to their utmost limits. To survive is to face even greater challenges - and to wield even greater power.

What Is This Hersey?

Knowledge of the Warhammer 40K setting is required.

But the basic premise of the game has the players take on the roles of a Rogue Trader and his retinue of trusted officers (altogether referred to as "Explorers" by the system) as the command staff of a starship. With wealth, privilege and power undreamt of by the average Imperial citizen, Rogue Traders are free to explore the galaxy at the edges and, indeed, beyond the boundaries of established Imperial space. Far from the prying eyes of the Inquisition or other Imperial authorities, any method of furthering their interests and making profit is on the cards; strip-mining, enslaving, or depopulating entire worlds are within the realms of possibility, and many crews are not above consorting with xenos or even turning to heretical means to achieve their own ends.

The Warrant of Trade

1. Be courteous, be polite, et cetera.

2. Post at least one a week, either OOC or IC (though the latter is preferred). If you are not going to post regularly in the IC or OOC, please let me know sooner than later.

3. No godmodding, goes without saying really.

4. Good grammar, spelling and detail is expected (Mircosoft Word, etc exist for a reason)

5. I reserve the right to reject applications and/or remove people from the RP.

6. I also reserve the right to add or amend rules as required.

7. [REDACTED]

8. There is no Rule 7, all enquiries concerning it should be directed to the Holy Ordos of His Divine Majesty's Inquisition.

Endeavours

1. Forsaken Bounty

Characters

To create a character, you have the choice of the following 'careers' to choose from.

  2. Astropath Transcendent - Like the Psyker, someone with psychic powers, using them to communicate over interstellar distances.

  4. Missionary - A cleric of the God-Emperor, spreading the word of their religion into the dark corners of the Galaxy.
  5. Navigator - Another psychic, but one whose skills lie in directing the ship itself on interstellar voyages, relying on the psionic beacon at the heart of the Imperium.
  6. Rogue Trader - Merchant prince, privateer and shipmaster.
  7. Seneschal - The Rogue Trader's right-hand person, running their trading enterprise.
  8. Void-master - Expert in running a space ship.

Name: Scarh Andros
Career: Explorator
Homeworld: Holy Terra
Physical Description/Picture:
Image

Motivation: Exploration and seeking of lost technology
Specialties and Skills: Tech repair and maintenance
Weapons of Choice: 2 Flechette Blasters (Wielded by his higher arms) 2 Arc Mauls (Wielded by his lower arms)
RP Experience: Yo. yo and yo.
Personal History:
To be a citizen on Terra is to know struggle and pain. Scarh Andros knows this all too well. His father a Guardsman who most likely perished on some far away world. His mother an uncaring and miserable factory worker who barely acknowledged his existence. From his earliest age, he was on his own. One of the countless street rats who infested the back alleys of Terra. But Scarh survived by learning. He had an affinity for tinkering. Mostly cracking the codes on the food stores of the rich citizens, making off with enough food to keep him going. And much to his chagrin, he soon gained followers. Fellow urchins who followed him and learned to fiddle with tech as well. The Children of Andros (Scarh Andros is the name he adopted, taken from the ID of some forsaken corpse he found in a back alley) were living in veritable comfort. But the good times would end. Even with his knack for tech, Scarh was still an uneducated child. His arrogance would lead him and his group to try and crack the ration crates from a departing group of Guardsman. Scarh doesn't remember much from that night. A blaring alarm, panic, a sharp strike to his temple, his friends fleeing to unknown fates. He was caught and arrested. Thrown into a cell to be forgotten and waste away...at least, that's what should have happened. If not for a Machine Cultist who heard of this brazen child and his skills. Scarh was offered a deal. Come with him to Mars and learn the ways of the Machine God and its servants. Or fade away in prison. He naturally accepted his offer. But even among his new brethren, and as his organic form became dominated by machinery, Scarh felt a wanderlust. The universe was huge, and there were secrets to be found. Why waste his time on Terra and Mars? So, with the approval of his superiors in the Machine Cult, Scarh was posted as an Explorator on a Rogue Trader vessel.

I know it's not up yet but may I reserve the Rogue Trader position?

On the condition that if, for whatever reason, you drop from the RP I get to run your character as a NPC.

The Rogue Trader themselves is a pretty important position.

Name: Alina Visscher, of the Navis Nobilite Magisterial House Visscher.
Career: Navigator.
Homeworld: Holy Terra, Throneworld of the Imperium.
Physical Description/Picture: Pictures of Navigators are very rare and few between, so something of the sort, but with a third eye, which is usually (outside of 'work') covered with a simple, tight bandage or piece of cloth. The hair originates from implants and is paired with some severe facial reconstructions in an attempt to look more different from her cousins, second cousins, brothers, sisters, father, mother, and so forth - an eccentricity only afforded through the great wealth bestowed upon Navigators and their Houses. Tall and spindly, Alina comes across as extremely physically weak, and indeed is just that. Besides the third eye and frail appearance, further signs of her mutant nature are her feet - which are webbed - and the light scales running from her shoulders down to her wrists, below which are a pair of hands that are on the rather large side.
Motivation: The gathering of astropathic data and the expansion of Warp charts for House Visscher's collection of charts and data on the region.
Specialities and Skills: As an Imperial Navigator of House Visscher, Alina is capable of guiding ships through the roiling waves of the Empyrean due to her innate, genetic connection with the Warp. Such skills are a necessity for anyone wishing to traverse through the Immaterium with their ship, and as such it is of little surprise that she has been brought on board. Her Third Eye also brings some other unique gifts, allowing Alina to temporarily and locally disrupt realspace to disrupt hostile ships, to react to strikes moments before they are ever made, and can kill those not of the most fortuitous of wills with the gaze of her opened third eye, making anyone looking upon it peer into the depths of the Warp.
Weapons of Choice: A finely decorated, and very fancy, laspistol - other than her third eye and psychic powers, of course.
RP Experience: We've RP'd before, I think! More than willing to dig up some old posts though ;)
Personal History: Born to the Magisterial Navigator House Visscher, Alina Visscher was the result of careful breeding to preserve the ever-important Navigator mutant gene. While the Visccher's are not prominently known outside of the Navis Nobilite themselves, they hold significant wealth and allegedly one of the finest palaces to have ever been built, carefully maintained through clandestinely amassing astropathic charts through close cooperation with Rogue Traders and explorator fleets. Throughout her life, Alina was vigorously trained in the usage of her third eye so that she, too, could contribute to the House - it is what she was quite literally made for, after all. With her training fulfilled, Alina would soon find herself attached to various different ships, on short-term contracts intended for but a single journey. As a Navigator, one often finds themselves given plenty of wealth and leniency - and for her it was no different. The young navigator swiftly grew several eccentricities and became almost obsessed with looking as un-navigator-like as she could, if only to stand out from her kin when back on Holy Terra. These eccentricities were, begrudgingly, accepted as she was competent at her job. Eventually, however, following her deciding the right course of action was to get hair implants, paired with how from her shoulders and down her arms scales had started to appear, a more visible sign of mutation, it was decided that it would be best to keep Alina out of public Navis Nobilite House sight on Holy Terra, and so it was that the Navigator found herself on a newly signed, more longer-lasting contract, enlisted by a Rogue Trader set to explore territories uncharted.

How many traits can an Astropath have? I'm tossing up between an Astropath that has Psychic Barrier, Mental Fortitude, and Gaze of the Emperor. Who says every Psyker has to be pulled towards the Ruinous Powers? That or a slightly-mutated Missionary.

No, this will be like a normal RP on the forums.

Should I just grab every single power that's slightly Emprah-related?

Kinda want to do a psyker even if Rogue Trader is a bit odd on psykers compared to the other FFG books.

Name:Ceicel Asep
Career:Rogue Trader of House Asep
Homeworld:Catachan
Physical Description/Picture: As a native of Catachan, he's a damn giant of a man. His noble outfit is very basic, mostly coming from his Catachan upbringing and that his House cared more for practicality than fashion. His bodies of scarred up from his many deployments as being a Jungle Devil in the Imperial Guard prior to his full acceptance in the inheritance of his noble line. One thing he keeps on him more than any gun is his trusty knife, which is more useful than anything on him(so he believes)
Motivation: To fight giant monsters, restore his family's name and riches, and explore the galaxy doing the last two things
Specialities and Skills:He is known to be an ambusher, a man who places traps everywhere and puts the fear of the Emperor in all that cross him. He is experience in jungle fighting and guerrilla warfare, willing to get his hands dirty any time, even when not needed. He also seeks to learn everything about his surroundings, never in the same place twice on his giant ship unless he's needed.
Weapons of Choice: His trusty knife that's the size of a sword, a shotgun that is decorated, a ornate flamer
RP Experience:Here and Here
Personal History:
Ceicel is the youngest of House Asep. The house in of itself is an oddity in the Imperium nobility, even among rouge trader dynasties. Their members can trace their family lineage to being monster hunters and producing some of the finest Guardsmen that a Catachan can. Ceicel, like many others who wish to be accepted in the family, must go through at least four tours of duty as a Guardsmen. To many other noble families, they scoff at the idea of throwing their scions into war and learn how to survive like everyone does on the Deathworld but they weren't Catachan.

Ceicel was thrust with three of his cousins into the 281st Catchan Jungle Fighter's detachment sent to fight for the Imperium. It was there he was broken, rebuilt, and grown as a man worth of his planet. It humbled him and made him find glory of fighting things like Tyrannids and Orkz. He led as a sergeant during his third tour of duty when he got a call back from his mother. As was shipped back to the jungle hellhole that surrounded the fortress-manor he was greeted by a stern mother. She said that they were low on funds and his uncle had died by being branded as a heretic by the Inquisition.

Ceicel knew what it meant as his uncle was their Rogue Trader and was the face of the family. It was then that his mother told him that he needed to bring back the family name and riches as their new Rogue Trader. Ceicel had a smile his face, the first smile he ever had coming back from service. Being a Rogue Trader was a dream of his, being able to be on the family ship and fight against the galaxy with his family. However it was to be a service to go out into the unknown and search for glory and riches to redeem his family's name in the eyes of the Imperium and it was one he will accept.

With what funds he could get and his family's ship to find a crew and confidants to help on his quest of slaying monsters and finding riches in the unknown.
