The world needs heroes.

That’s not some meaningless platitude, it’s not something empty that’s repeated as an inspirational saying, and it’s not just the slogan of some video game. The year is 2024, and the world needs heroes more than anything. Nuclear war, disease, and global warming are all small threats compared to some of the more immediate ones that walk the Earth. These threats include superpowered terrorists who want nothing more than to see the destruction of society as we know it. Beings from other dimensions who know no human morals and have no sympathy for the human race as a whole. Criminals who will devastate a city for profits, using inhuman powers to evade capture by the police.

They say that you need powers to stop someone with powers, and that is why they say that the world needs heroes. In the fight against good and bad, it seems that the good have been outnumbered now more than ever. Turn on the nightly news, and you’ll see stories of metahumans behaving badly around the world. City blocks being left in ruins because of fights between metahumans and the authorities, countless people left dead as a result of something that was done with powers. Top villains still evade capture all around the world, with the wanted list consisting of all shades of evil: political rebels, criminals, otherworldly abominations, cult members, and more.

The Syndicate is the main thing that stands in the way of those people. Named as such because of its reach around the world, encompassing a number of different regional teams, the Syndicate is a union of heroes that has sworn to protect the public at all costs. That’s not to say that the Syndicate is perfect, either. When you combine organizations from so many areas, politics becomes involved, and inter-organization politics can heat up and turn brutal. But the Syndicate is still the best shield that humanity has against the super powerful. With hundreds of superheroes and even more support staff within its ranks, the Syndicate will have to go down first before any villain group can lay claim on victory.

In the shadows, however, other threats lurk than just the ones that are visible immediately. Monsters in the shadows that are more powerful than anything on Earth right now, and inhuman supermen who are stronger than even metahumans. Rogue scientists who would rather destroy than create and improve. All of these threats are closing in on the world. Will you be one of the ones to stop it? Will you succeed, or will you find yourself failing and allowing darkness to fall over the entire world?

Team Fox is one of the newest teams in the Syndicate, situated in the heart of beautiful London. Working here as a hero comes with plenty of glitz and glamour, and the celebrity status that is expected for the defenders of such a large city. It’s not uncommon for London’s heroes to reach superstar status, becoming global icons. Now, you will join that team and fight not just to protect your city, but your country and Europe as a whole, from every threat.

But will icon status be enough to help you save the world?

Hello everyone and welcome to a new thread to revive Heroes & Legends! The last one had a lot of potential but ended up dying from some influential players going inactive and some broken mechanics. It was, however, good enough to warrant a reboot. The terms are different this time. Rather than being heroes in training, we're following the story of a fully trained and sanctioned Syndicate team based in London, Team Fox. While this is a superhero RP, the aim is to make it more than generic and explore things that aren't always covered: life for celebrity heroes, the politics that influence things behind the scenes, and a fleshed out mythology to explain where powers come from.

But don't think that just because this RP is meant to dig a bit deeper and explore a fleshed out world, it won't have action or adventure. As members of Team Fox, we'll have to fight to protect London and Europe as a whole from just about every possible threat that there is. Also, because H&L aims to explore a world and not just a singular location, you will also have a chance to use the World thread for things that happen outside of the main story. Smaller stories about other teams, villains, world events that were caused by metahumans, etc.

Hopefully, this will be the start of not just one thread, but a universe that lasts.

A STORIED HISTORY

There are many superhero teams in the world. The Syndicate of Heroes, however, is above all of them in terms of stature, funding, and legacy. The Syndicate, as it is known by most people, is the largest and most well known team in the world, receiving millions of dollars in government funding from countries around the world in exchange for setting up teams to protect these countries. Some countries, like the United States, United Kingdom, and Japan, have many teams spread out all over. Other smaller countries, such as the Netherlands or Switzerland, may only have one or two teams that cover any crisis that happens in the country.

There are some nations with no Syndicate team at all, who rely on local authorities, regional hero teams, or foreign teams to help them in the event of a crisis. But even the most isolated and repressive countries in the world have at least heard of the Syndicate, an organization that has saved the world a number of times over from various threats. Syndicate teams work with local authorities to take down threats, but they have stolen the show numerous times for obvious reasons: sometimes, when you’re fighting metahumans, you need other metahumans on your side to take them down. More often than not, the Syndicate has acted as those other metahumans. And the Syndicate has taken out some of the biggest threats known to man, from human villains to abominations that have crossed dimensions with the intent to destroy.

Originally, the organization was founded in the years after World War Two. Particularly, 1951. It featured members from both the Axis and the Allies, who had been pressed into service by their respective countries during the conflict and who now had a lot of combat knowledge but nothing to do with it. Rather than returning to civilian life, the metahumans that made up the early Syndicate of Heroes offered their services against crime, signing contracts with their governments and returning to their hometowns not as ordinary men, but as protectors. Their numbers would grow through the 50s and by the time the 1960s were in full swing, the Syndicate was moving away from an individual based structure and into a team based one.

The Syndicate’s first team, the Washington Americans, were founded in the United States’ capital city in 1961 and quickly gained a large following due to the revolutionary nature of the idea. The Americans had a large reach and dealt with criminals up and down the east coast, fighting against both the mafia and larger threats such as terrorists. They gained fame around the country and the world in 1968 when they protected the government of the United States from a coup attempt by anarchists who had metahumans in their ranks, leading to them nearly succeeding in their plot before they were stopped by the Syndicate.

The Washington Americans were led by some of the most well known and beloved heroes around, including Ramsay “Atom” Keir, Royce “the Red King” Collie, and Arsenio “Il Capitano” Orso. These three heroes are known for their influence and for their role in making the Syndicate what it is, and they have been called the ‘first fathers of the Syndicate’ because of what they did for the organization. By the time 1972 came, two of the those leading figures would depart the team and move to other locations to form teams of their own, with Keir departing to Los Angeles and Orso heading across the Atlantic to set up a team in West Germany, one that would stand in opposition to the Soviet threat looming in the distance.
Of course, metahumans and politics ended up mixing. Out east, both the Soviet aligned Warsaw Pact and fellow communist states China and North Korea began to notice the potential that these people had as weapons of the state, and it became common for metahumans to be rounded up and offered jobs within the state security services. These offers, however, were not really offers at all. Turning them down was not an option, and soon, many of the communist security agencies had special divisions with metahumans that would act both at home and abroad for them. As far east as China and the Koreas and as far west as Bulgaria and Albania, rights for metahumans in many countries hit an all time low.

But the Syndicate, which had been growing throughout this period, outlasted all of it and expanded into the world’s former communist countries following the fall of the Soviet Union. It created three teams in Russia in 1993, one in former East Germany the same year, and two teams in China the year after. Furthermore, a number of countries ranging from superpower to middling status met in Canada to sign what would be known as the Ottawa Deal from then on. The terms were pretty simple. The world agreed that the Syndicate would be considered a neutral party that would be free from their political struggles, and the Syndicate would act with neutrality in protecting the world.
Since the Ottawa Deal, the Syndicate has officially maintained neutral status and operated in most countries at some level. Its organization has grown large enough to be broken into a number of divisions for organizational reasons: North America, South-Central America, Western Europe, Eastern Europe-Central Asia, North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa, West Asia, South Asia, and Oceania. Each of these regions has a central headquarters, where its own staff works around the clock to keep all of the teams in the region running.

Additionally, to cover the entire world, the Syndicate works with different types of teams. Full teams receive full support from the Syndicate and have everything covered for them, such as gear and housing. They are also paid handsomely for their services and receive plenty of press. Other teams, however, are considered affiliates and work more indirectly with the Syndicate while covering their own expenses, and are usually significantly smaller. The system has made it possible to have heroes on hand to respond to things no matter where they happen at.

That’s not to say that the Syndicate is perfect. There’s plenty of accusations thrown its way. Some claim that it oversteps authority, others say that it isn’t as neutral as it claims to be, and others believe that the Syndicate could be less heavy handed in its tactics and be more careful about taking away lives, both intentionally and accidentally. Some accuse it of supporting repressive states such as Saudi Arabia and Iran by operating there, and it has also been criticized for its members behaving badly and getting caught by the media. But the Syndicate has still defeated enough threats to keep its position as the top hero team in the world, and it continues to grow every year.

WHAT MAKES A HERO

To understand powers, you have to go back to the first days of humanity. The first men entered Earth through a portal from another realm, through some means that was never recorded in history. Despite not being large in number, they settled down on the empty planet and they created a society where not only some people, but everyone had access to magical abilities. This society advanced rapidly because of those abilities, quickly becoming advanced, even if it was a different kind of advanced than today’s definition of the word. For a time, all humans were seemingly born with these abilities. The abilities only had to be trained, not awakened.

But at some point, this society disappeared and the records of it were gone too. Had they left? Been wiped out by internal or external threats? Been abducted by aliens? It’s unknown, and humanity as a whole has no idea if these people even existed in the first place. They haven’t left behind much in the way of evidence, bones, writings, or anything else of the sort and plenty of other theories about the where the first humans came from have become popularized instead. Their existence is still debated, but there are some who have taken up belief in them, with modern technology helping to find things that may or may not be related to these first men. Still, the theory is controversial. However, one thing that did remain on Earth was some form of their abilities.

However, humans were no longer born with their abilities awakened. They seemed to lie dormant for the vast majority of human history until things changed. The year was 1898, and the place was Halifax, Canada. Bright lights were seen in the sky in an anomaly that had never been seen before, like the northern lights but more intense, more colorful, and unlike anything that had been spotted in the Arctic. These lights went on for almost a full night, but the world didn’t seem to see any effects from the Halifax Event, as it was called.

Until months later, people not just from Canada but around the world started to experience the awakening of dormant abilities. The abilities ranged from very dangerous to very mundane, but the fact of the matter was that humans all around the world seemed to have a connection to both magical and non magical abilities once again, for the first time in recorded human history. Of course, governments scrambled to control these people and prevent it from causing civil unrest. It was easy for that to happen, after all, when there were now people that could destroy a city block without breaking a sweat.

That is how abilities appeared for the first time, but how do they work, exactly? There’s two types of them. Genetic and magical. Genetic abilities are entirely contained within someone. That is, no external influence is needed. These abilities are typically more focused than magical abilities, and allow the user to do less. However, they’re easier to use and they take far less training to master. Using a genetic ability is something innate, that someone should be able to figure out easily. That’s not to say they’ll have an easy time using it well, but they can still use it nonetheless.

Magical abilities are a bit different. Their users are connected to a specific plane and their abilities work by channeling energy to this plane. The ability depends on the plane, and what it contains. The magical plane that a shadow mage is connected to will look vastly different than the plane that a light mage shares a connection with. The strength of the powers partly depends on the connection to the mage’s plane, which can be increased through training and meditation. However, it isn’t easy. A mage can also visit their plane as a physical place, but it takes much training to be able to remain within a metaphysical plane as a human. Being able to do this is a sign of strength for a mage.

THE HEART OF LONDON

London, the capital of the United Kingdom and a well known city around the world, is no stranger to the superhero craze or to metahumans in general. Some of the first metahumans were summoned to London by the crown in the early years, to demonstrate their abilities and show the British royalty in person how they could be of use. When tensions were increasing during the Cold War, the British government set up its own team of metahuman heroes to match those that were now present in the United States. The purpose was both to fight domestic threats, and to act as a deterrent against attacking the United Kingdom.

The first Syndicate sanctioned group arrived in 1978, not too long after the Syndicate set up in West Germany. Known as the London Tigers, the group quickly achieved fame within the United Kingdom and even in the United States, where their merchandise could be seen despite their location across the Atlantic. The London Tigers still exist, albeit with their members changing out over the years, with their original leader Justice Lennon now acting as the director of the team on the business and administration side. Their brand is one of the most valuable for a team of heroes, but with the United Kingdom having a large population and a number of cities to cover, the Tigers can’t handle every single thing that comes up.

For years, the British government attempted to promote their own domestic hero program, establishing more than one domestic team over the years in cities such as London, Manchester, and Birmingham. However, this program lacked the funding and the technological advantages of the Syndicate, and the new heroes seemed ineffective at their jobs. Their lack of competency was exposed to the entire world in 2019, when Britain suffered the worst metahuman attack in its history. A dragon was summoned by a magic wielding Brexit protester in Birmingham, with more than a thousand deaths happening before the British heroes could figure out how to defeat the mage. The incident was not only a tragedy, but an embarrassment that led to the Brits opening up to the idea of another Syndicate team operating in their country.

The Syndicate announced in 2021 that it would establish a new fully funded team in London, and in 2022 this team was revealed as Team Fox. In preparations for the creation of the team, the Syndicate bought a large estate in the suburbs of the city and started transforming it into somewhere for the team to live. These grounds became known as the Foxhole, and are fully outfitted with everything that the Syndicate provides for its teams: a workshop, vehicle garage, helipad, training center, and defenses that include a SAM battery on the front lawn. After all, Syndicate heroes don’t keep secret identities. It’s nearly impossible to, in the information age, and it would make their heroes susceptible to blackmail.

The appointed leader of the team is Kyle “Jet” Summers, former member of the British Tigers who was once considered one of the most promising up and coming heroes in the Syndicate. The team was also assigned a full support team for the purposes of helping with day to day operations, and research and development towards the team’s equipment and weaponry, as well as to run the public side of the team. All in all, the operation is one that involves more than 70 people, most of them living off site but a few of them living in the Foxhole. The members of the team were gathered through 2023, with the goal to begin active operations in early 2024.

SCUM AND VILLAINY (AND THOSE WHO FIGHT THEM)

The world is a dangerous place. With the rise of metahumans, it’s become far easier for a deadly event to come out of nowhere. Plenty of people walk around with the potential to commit large acts of destruction without even having to try too hard, and not all of those people reign in that potential and work on becoming productive citizens of society. While most metahumans can be considered regular people, some of them have become villains, enemies of the Syndicate and of authorities around the world. Some of them run solo, others have groups, and they fight for various goals. Some fight for personal powers, others for political reasons, and some just want money, just like anyone else would. All of them, though, are considered dangers to the public and some of them are dangers to the entire world. Below, you’ll find information on some of the most dangerous villain groups in the world and what their operations are. You'll also find information on the factions that are fighting them, and the ones that are caught in the middle.

Additionally, every organization listed below is placed in a group between A and C. Group A organizations are very powerful and can affect the entire world with their actions. These are the ones that can destroy or save a city, have coalitions created to fight against them, and whose members are well known internationally. Group B organizations are between the other two groups, and while they aren't on the top tier of power levels, they have some regional sway. Many hero groups in Africa and poorer Asian countries can be classified as these, while minor villain groups that still get Syndicate attention usually earn this classification. The final classification is Group C. These heroes and villains operate at the local level and aren't really known outside of enthusiasts and their respective communities. Many of them don't make big money in their operations and only make enough to stay active, if that. Also, they're far from being celebrities. This includes both street level heroes and gangs that haven't gained infamy.

The Red Storm

The Red Storm is rated as one of the most dangerous villain groups in the world, simply because of their size and their reach in a number of countries. Their organization contains both metahumans and non metahumans, and while the metahumans are significantly outnumbered by regular people, the ones that they do have are known to be hard hitters and can hold their own in fights against the Syndicate. The organization also uses numbers to its advantage and takes advantage of recruiting well in poor countries, giving it a good supply of unskilled footsoldiers and others who occupy low ranking roles.

Their agenda is syndicalism and the members of the organization aim to create a "fairer" society by toppling world governments and replacing them with an international syndicalist regime. To do this, the Red Storm often targets governments and powerful corporations, but sometimes targets heroes directly because of the battle between them and the Syndicate. Their leadership is rumored to be based in continental Europe, particularly Germany. Their leader has been identified as notable former solo villain Kristina Bruhn, better known by her public name, "Lady Red."

Lux

Unlike some of the other groups, Lux does not fight for a political goal or for political power but for profits and luxury. Their organization started off as a legitimate business but over the years it was discovered that they had extensive ties to criminal syndicates in multiple locations, many of them influenced and run by metahumans. These connections caused the company, a conglomerate that had many real estate holdings, to go under with the former CEO resigning and former CFO Cezar Pinho picking up the pieces and continuing to work with the network of criminals that had been built up over the years by Lux, which was making almost as much money from the crime industry than it was from real estate.

The name Lux has become synonymous with crime but it's hard to pin down their leadership, which is wanted in several countries but stays off the radar. They are a looser network made of a number of triads and cartels, each one receiving support from the main syndicate in exchange for a cut of their profits, something that has significantly helped both sides. Lux is known to train metahumans to be their enforcers, and the central body of the organization has a full team of metahumans for this purpose. While many of their members are low level, running into these metahumans is common for heroes from the Syndicate and other organizations.
NEXT

NEXT is maybe the closest thing to being the Syndicate. Founded in 2009, far more recently than most of the relevant hero organizations out there, NEXT was meant to be an alternative to the Syndicate for heroes who weren't... As into handling PR and working with governments as the Syndicate were. They immediately came out with a brash marketing style, ranging from the sharper colors of black and green to the original announcement video they made, which accused the Syndicate of selling out and claimed that they were the ones who embodied the real spirit of a hero. The Syndicate originally didn't take NEXT seriously, but that was a mistake. With the help of their eccentric businessman owner, Severe Perrot, they established two teams in major markets in the following year: NEXT Quebec, and NEXT China.

They soon ended up poaching from the Syndicate and from top regional teams and they established themselves elsewhere in 2011 with the creation of NEXT Japan, NEXT Brazil, and NEXT London, competing with the Syndicate in each market. They might fight on the same side but don't get ideas about them being friends. They aren't. There's a lot of bad blood between the establishment and the new kids on the block, and there's been multiple altercations between NEXT heroes and Syndicate heroes. They don't like each other very much, but it remains to be seen which one is better at doing their job effectively.
Medusa

Based in Switzerland with American ownership, Medusa is perhaps the sole human organization that can be expected to go toe to toe with metahumans and win. They offer a security alternative from metahumans and often find themselves cleaning up when metahumans can't complete the job or for whatever reason don't show up, sometimes because the job is viewed as too dangerous for them. Medusa also has teams dedicated to cleaning up after metahumans, who often leave tremendous destruction behind whether their alignment is hero, villain, or something else. Medusa has offices all around the world and works with governments just like the Syndicate does, but there's some tension between them and the Syndicate. After all, they do the Syndicate's job in a more efficient but less flashy way, and much of their rhetoric is directed at metahumans in general rather than just the rogue ones.

ENLIST TODAY

Interested in joining? The process isn't that complicated. Below you'll find the applications for a member of Team Fox, for heroes and villains to be used in the World thread, and for factions and journalists as well as any other apps that happen to be added over time. Keep some things in mind before filling out your application.

First off, new players and players who haven't proven that they have interest in the RP and will likely stay active are limited to Group B in terms of strength, for World thread characters. This isn't to discriminate against players, but to keep from handing off important factions and characters to players who will then lose interest in a week and disappear, disrupting the story for everybody. Don't worry. You can still affect stories plenty at this power level, but you aren't given a globally relevant character or faction. More relevancy can also be earned through participation and you can get stronger, too, so don't think that you'll be stuck like this forever.

Second, be sure to realize the distinction between applications. There are two threads here, the World Thread and the Main Story Thread. The main story thread does not necessarily involve the player submitted factions and World Thread characters, although it's possible for it to happen. It follows the story of Team Fox, in London. The World Thread, on the other hand, covers events around the world and is more of a sandbox for player created factions and characters. It also covers IC news that it reported by journalist characters. Now that that's out of the way, here's the applications and the rules.

Rules
  • Final decisions from the OP/thread staff are final. This shouldn't have to be said, but things such as character deaths, decisions in the plot, and which powers are allowed into the RP cannot be appealed. You can try to make your case, but dragging it on after the decision has already been made doesn't help anyone. The thread runs smoother if this rule is followed, also.
  • Banned powers are time travel and time stopping, any form of remote hacking, super speed over 60 miles per hour, as well as powers that negate death (ie being revived when you die).
  • If you aren't a Discord user you will likely miss important planning for combat. You'll get the link when you join and it's not a necessity to be there or be active, but don't say you weren't warned if you miss things. Also, if you want to run your own arcs in the world thread or run a faction, you have to be on Discord. It's not because we're against forums-only people, but because it's far more convenient to plan on there and the vast majority of posters would rather plan that way than going back and forth on the OOC thread.
  • You should attempt good writing quality. Long post are not needed every time, but it should be clear that you're at least putting in effort and using basic grammar skills.
  • You aren't the biggest fish in the water. You are being warned now that you have a VERY low chance of winning if you decide to pick a fight with a giant organization like the Syndicate. Also, don't assume that your hero is able to do everything. They aren't.
  • Inactive characters may be moved during missions by the thread staff to keep things moving. Being inactive for weeks and not saying anything about your absence may result in character death or your faction becoming an NPC.

When we lose one we love, our bitterest tears are called forth by the memory of hours when we loved not enough. - Maurice Maeterlinck

There is a sacredness in tears. They are not the mark of weakness, but of power. They speak more eloquently than ten thousand tongues. They are the messengers of overwhelming grief, of deep contrition, and of unspeakable love. - Washington Irving

RAPHALELLA 'RAPH' ALEXIA BIANCHI-COSTA

"People say I bring a sword to a gunfight. I say they've brought too much armour."

Image

VITALS

Name: Raphaella Alexa Bianchi-Costa (everyone calls her Raph)
Nickname/Alias: Duelist
Appearance:
Image

Gender: Female
Age: 22
Build: 5'7"/55kg
Primary Ability: Raph's primary ability is that she grants any bladed object, whether it be a sword, spear, axe, knife, letter opener, whatever, as long as it has a cutting edge, what amounts to a stabilised edge of antimatter that obliterates whatever it touches, with the energy produced being absorbed into her body. In practical terms, this means she can cut through quite literally anything, and that as long as she has a bladed object in hand, she doesn't get tired or need to breathe as her body can run directly off of the energy generated from her holding the weapon.

Other Abilities: N/A

Power Drawbacks: Raph's power simply doesn't work without a bladed implement, and is limited by what the bladed implement actually is in the first place, since a penknife isn't going to cut very much. Although she doesn't tire when holding a weapon, that doesn't mean her muscles won't hurt from the exertion however.

Equipment: Raph doesn't carry much in the way of equipment, carrying only a pair of knives along with a longsword at her hip, along with a bandoleer of smoke and flash grenades.

DETAILS

Nationality: Swiss.
Hometown: Bellinzona.
Sexuality: Lesbian.

Biggest Flaw: Raph simply doesn't know when to give up. Some would call it stubbornness or arrogance, but it goes somewhere beyond that to the point that it has to be obvious to absolutely everyone that they have no chance, and even then she'll only consider it a temporary setback, regardless of everything else. If she has her mind set to do something, she will do it and there is no talking her out of it except under very specific circumstances.
Main Skills: Raph is good with her sword. Very, very good. Her eldest sister fenced at a competitive level, but Raph went even further, being a member of the Swiss Olympic Fencing Team for a brief time before she got her power. She's also fairly fit physically, with decent stamina and she's quite fast, even if not particularly strong.

Personality: Raph, at her core, is an extremely stubborn, driven and even angry person; she wants nothing more than to prove herself, to say 'fuck you' to her parents and sisters, to do her own thing with no one controlling her. Equally, she wants fame and money; she's quite materialistic, placing a high value on what she owns. Otherwise, she's quite relaxed, hard to rile up and generally tries to be a friendly, nice and outgoing person.

Biography: Raphaella Alexa Bianchi-Costa is the youngest of the three triplet daughters of the Bianchi-Costa family, a family of Swiss aristocrats, or they claim to bet least, as Switzerland abolished its nobility in the 19th century. But the small castle they lived in and their wealth and their claimed title and coat of arms and family history said otherwise.

Unlike her elder two sisters, Raph did not take to the high life particularly well; she didn't see the point of it all, and she wasn't the most studious person either, being outshone by both her elder sisters in school and social circles alike, so she turned to the one area that she was actually good at; sports. Her parents ignored her largely, leaving her to her own devices and dismissing her as someone that wouldn't be fit for the family and it's place, but Raph didn't care, she didn't need them. She'd carve out her own place in the world.

She took up various sports, track athletics, tennis, swimming, but she found that her calling was fencing really. Her parents approved of her choice, but that wasn't of any relevance to her, and her rise was somewhat meteoric, including beating her eldest sister in fencing at multiple points, eventually culminating in her making the Swiss Olympic Fencing Team, not that there was a particularly large pool of people to draw from. However, sadly, Raph's dreams of winning the Olympics were sadly crushed when she developed her power spontaneously out of nowhere when she was 20 and so she immediately went to join the Syndicate as the largest hero team, instead using this as an opportunity for a different road to fame, fortune and showing her family she could do far better without them by herself.

COLLEEN LYNCH

"Bang a Uey, skid. Make us both happy."

Image

VITALS

Name: Collen Lynch
Nickname/Alias: The Boston Bastard
Appearance:
ImageImage

Top pic is true appearance, the bottom is for full style of attire (excluding color)
Gender: Female
Age: 21
Build: Average Height and weight

Primary Ability:
Kinetic Acceleration: Colleen takes the kinetic energy of an object and instantly accelerates its energy up to 400% increase to achieve explosive results. Whether it would be her baseball bat or throwables, Colleen could accelerate their kinetic energy to achieve unprecedented levels of concussive force upon impact. For example: accelerating the kinetic energy of a baseball after getting hit with her bat. This also applies to Colleen's legs as she could accelerate the kinetic energy from her leg movement to jump six times as high after six seconds of stationary charging.
Other Abilities:
Resistance to Third Law: Colleen won't have her bones broken nor will her muscles and organs get stretched from acceleration of kinetic energy for her jumps. Her items and throwables cannot be shattered immediately upon impact after getting charged with her power.
Power Drawbacks:
- Range limitation: Colleen can only accelerate the kinetic energy of objects that are in her immediate physical presence. to put simply, she has to physically touch an object to accelerate the kinetic energy. I.E., the bat in her hands and the shoes on her feet.
- Inanimate objects exclusively: Her powers mainly effects non-living objects and can only be applied to Colleen's own body such her legs.
- Acceleration limitation: Colleen can only instantly accelerate objects that weigh at least 5 ounces and no greater than 10 lbs. That is why Colleen has to charge her jumps since her entire body weight and equipment on her has to be taken into account.
- One at a time: Colleen cannot affect two inanimate objects at once with her power which means she can't increase the kinetic energy of her bat and baseball at the same time to create a super railgun.
Equipment:

- few baseballs
DETAILS

Nationality: Irish-American
Hometown: Boston
Sexuality: Bi

Biggest Flaw: Colleen is very sensitive around the topic of her being an illegitimate child from her mother and a father she never even met. It makes her remember that she never had a father figure and brings up her memories of criminal dealings in the past. Despite her mother being irresponsible in the first place, Colleen still would defend her mother to the death since she was the only person Colleen could call as a mother.
Main Skills:
- A natural at sprinting and parkour as Colleen can run up to 17 mph even with the equipment she carries.
- Competent with a bat and baseball when coming to close-quarter combat.
- An excellent baseball pitcher
- Very accurate with throwables such as nailing someone in the head with a baseball or cleaver with her hands or hitting it with her bat.
- Self-trained in firearms such as her shotgun and smg
Personality: Colleen is reserved and brooding upon first contact. This is mainly because that she was forced to grow up out of her childhood and had to fight on the streets where anyone was a potential backstabber. However, Colleen cane be seen as cheerful and enthusiastic when it comes to playing baseball, cards, and parkour racing after she has gotten close enough to her companion.

Biography: Born as the only child, Colleen only had the luxury of living with her mom due to her dad ditching them both once he heard that her mother was pregnant. Due to her mother's poor relations with her family, Colleen grew up poor in the streets of Boston. Her early childhood was simply going to preschool and had to help her mother take care of the apartment they were living in.

When puberty hit in middle school, Colleen's anger at being poor were soon directed towards her mother for not getting help from her parents or other siblings. That type of rebellious attitude was too much for her mother who was already frail after giving birth to Colleen. Still furious, Colleen would later rant her bitterness among her middle school peers and accidentally blurted out that she was illegitimate. This gave her the nickname "Bastard" among her peers and it irked her to no end.

High School was when Colleen started getting involved in illegal business, mainly drug dealing, since her mother was in the hospital and need money to pay the bills. This was dangerous work for Colleen as she had to avoid getting mugged by rival drug lords and go incognito with her nickname in the gang to avoid getting caught by the police. Since she joined the track team in her high school, Colleen was able to quickly reapply her skills to parkour in order to avoid getting shot or shanked by gang members wanting more that just the drugs that she was selling. Her powers manifested when she was finally cornered by a group of thugs and was forced to fight. After crushing the rib cage of one with a baseball bat due to accelerating its kinetic output, the remaining thugs quickly fled and told tales of a metahuman girl.

Finally, due to the constant pressure of getting caught and the final pleas from her sick mother, Colleen made the decision to go clean and leave the drug dealing business behind. On her mother's birthday the next day, Colleen gave an anonymous tip to the local police department which would lead to the drug ring getting crushed with the drug lord forced into hiding. The entire time, few of her former associates were cursing at the "Bastard" that ratted them out.

During the next four years, Colleen took on jobs of being a pizza delivery girl for various restaurants and pubs while occasionally getting attacked by muggers. Though she haven't killed anyone in self-defense yet, Colleen did break a few legs and arms and was forced to find alternate routes around Boston to avoid getting attacked. She would later join the Syndicate after her mother succumb to her sickness to finally start over a new life.

LUCAS PAINTER

"Pictures, paintings, art pieces, I read 'em all like an open book."

Image

VITALS

Name: Lucas Painter
Nickname/Alias: Picture-Man
Appearance:
A young man with a thin frame and a nerdy disposition, Lucas Painter has the look of a bit of a geek, wearing glasses most of the time and nerdy tee-shirts at other times.

Gender: Male
Age: 20
Build: 6' flat, 60kg

Primary Ability: Has the ability to expand the framing of pictures to observe what is happening around the time when the picture is being taken, such as being able to see who took a photo, where they were when the photo was taken, what was happening at the same time in a line of sight and, in some cases, able to see beneath clothing, which, as could be expected, leaves Lucas as somewhat of a deviant.

Other Abilities: Has complete photo-recall and is a supernaturally-talented painter.

Power Drawbacks: Lucas' powers cause him to not only possess somewhat of a dirty mind, but also to have many other character flaws, such as being somewhat of a blackmailer, a lazy person more interested in gaming (which he does extremely well, for the same reason) and causes visual overload, hence why he has his glasses. As such, for the first few years of his life, he was constantly in agony from the visual overload, and thus missed out on some basic education, though as he is intelligent, learnt some of it back after the fact.

Equipment: Lucas possesses glasses which cancel out his powers. They were given to him by a doctor from Medusa, and allow him to go through the world without constantly being overloaded with information.

DETAILS

Nationality: British (English)
Hometown: London
Sexuality: Heterosexual

Biggest Flaw: Character flaws - dirty mind, laziness, blackmailing etc.
Main Skills: Intelligent, quick learner, very good at gaming and piloting things through a screen thanks to his powers.

Personality: A bit of a recluse, formerly spending most of his time in his room, constantly looking through photographs of places and into the pages of books and magazines. Has a bit of a dirty mind, though has toned down somewhat, and has never held down a relationship for longer than a few days. Has little respect for others, and is most definitely a lazy person, preferring his own company and solitude to that of others.

Biography: Lucas Painter was born in Central London to two normal parents, though it is likely that it was his artistic mother who carried the latent genetic information within her that caused Lucas' powers to develop. Lucas' father was a rich businessman who ran a successful business in Central London. In the first days of Lucas' life, he was constantly in a state of visual overload, constantly crying and being unable to sleep, keeping his parents awake and causing them to worry about their newborn child. Eventually, he settled down a bit, but still had extreme episodes of emotional overload to do with pictures around the place. He was late in learning to talk, mostly due to the stress inflicted upon him, but when he began to talk, he made mention of the fact that he was constantly overloaded. His parents, as such, believed that he had Autism, and sent him to psychologists to discover the reason for his behaviour. Though in most Psych offices, there were many pictures, and so Lucas would be overloaded there too.

It wasn't until his parents took him to a Medusa-owned psych centre that they began to see development. The office they went to was cleaned of all pictures, as Medusa had been following his case for quite a while. The Psychologist showed him photos, and asked about the people who took them. To his parents' surprise, he was 100% accurate in his assessment. As such, the doctor suggested to keep him in a room with very little visual stimulus, keep him from school until he learnt to control his powers, and assist him with integration into the real world.

After a while, however, the parents found that it was not getting better. For this reason, Medusa created a special set of glasses to counteract Lucas' powers, ones that would allow him to see the world normally when he had them on, but with his powers when he had them off. As such, the problems with Lucas' condition nearly completely stopped, and Lucas went to school, and while in his first few years he was older than the students in his class, very soon he was put forward into classes where the students were his age, as he learnt quickly what many failed to grasp.

When he got to high school, however, he began to stagnate. Sure, he passed his courses, but didn't put much effort into them. He spent most of his time in his bedroom, looking at photos, and learning that he could do with them as he pleased caused his mind to go to places it had not previously. He became reclusive, often watching films, though constantly unable to suspend disbelief for any films, as he could see the camera crew operating behind the camera when others could not. He did, however, get very deeply into comic books, as he could read much more into the world of those comic books, into the minds of their creators at the time, than anyone else could. He went onto the internet between such times, writing theories about the writers' own headcanons long before they became proper canon. He became almost an internet celebrity.

Soon enough, the police came knocking. They had a CCTV recording of a murder, but they could not see the murderer. Medusa had put the police into contact with Lucas, who very easily identified the murderer and most aspects of how the murder occurred from what he could see. Sure enough, the murderer was arrested, and Lucas given money for information. This informal relationship with police continued, with him getting money for services given. Very soon, he was contacted by the Syndicate, in order to play more of a support and investigative role rather than to engage in actual fighting-villain work. This is where he is today, just over 20 years old, working for a massive organisation of superheroes.

A couple of things.

1: That's not... How compressed air works. The power should be referred to as something else because solidifying air is a pretty different thing than using compressed air which would probably be able to knock someone back at most.
2: How is she going right from being a drug dealer and gangster to working for the Syndicate and one of their more prestigious teams at that? She's going to be in front of the press and fans all the time and the English media is brutal. It's not that the Syndicate hasn't taken in reformed criminals but they wouldn't take them in and bring them straight into a team operating out of London, which is always covered by the press.
