Here's the video for context. Warning, it's some pretty mindblowing shit.
At today's Macau GP for Formula 3, 17-year old Sophia Florsch was involved in a pretty gnarly accident, starting from when she made contact with another driver, causing her to lose a wheel then hitting a kerb, flying over another car and hitting a photographers bunker. Oh yeah, she was clocked at something like 270+ km/h. News reports say that two photographers and a track marshall got lacerations while Florsch got a spine fracture and some pretty nice bruising. Everyone is doing okay though, kind of.
The race became delayed as the catch fence in she which graciously fucked up was repaired and Dan Ticktum, whoever the hell that is, goes on to win Macau for... whatever team. He sounds like a fucking nerd.
I've always said that shitty catch fences aren't enough; when you got ENTIRE CARS being thrown at them, you need two shitty catch fences to make sure everyone is safe. Of course, the FIA is always looking to improve safety and I'm sure they'll find a way to protect the bunkers a bit more. This isn't 1965 after all.
So what do you think of all this, NSG? Should we stop having crowds at Formula races to prevent more injury? Is Dan Ticktum really a fucking nerd? Should we make memes out of this?
