German Formula 3 Driver Smashes Into Photographers bunker

Postby Digital Planets » Sun Nov 18, 2018 9:09 am

If I could put more characters into the thread name, I would. Thanks NSG!

Here's the video for context. Warning, it's some pretty mindblowing shit.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHH

At today's Macau GP for Formula 3, 17-year old Sophia Florsch was involved in a pretty gnarly accident, starting from when she made contact with another driver, causing her to lose a wheel then hitting a kerb, flying over another car and hitting a photographers bunker. Oh yeah, she was clocked at something like 270+ km/h. News reports say that two photographers and a track marshall got lacerations while Florsch got a spine fracture and some pretty nice bruising. Everyone is doing okay though, kind of.

The race became delayed as the catch fence in she which graciously fucked up was repaired and Dan Ticktum, whoever the hell that is, goes on to win Macau for... whatever team. He sounds like a fucking nerd.

I've always said that shitty catch fences aren't enough; when you got ENTIRE CARS being thrown at them, you need two shitty catch fences to make sure everyone is safe. Of course, the FIA is always looking to improve safety and I'm sure they'll find a way to protect the bunkers a bit more. This isn't 1965 after all.

So what do you think of all this, NSG? Should we stop having crowds at Formula races to prevent more injury? Is Dan Ticktum really a fucking nerd? Should we make memes out of this?

Good to see that half the people in the audience got their priorities straight and kept their cellphone cameras running.

Formula.....heh.

anyway, my guess is no brakes or stuck throttle, and the catchfense probably would not have helped in any situation.

Catchfence crashes, while statistically rare in motorsports are often the most horrifying, and shes very lucky to be alive.

Well, she did less damage than the average suburban driver parking her van anyway.

Catch fences do their job quite nicely.

She went in backwards. Dan Wheldon hit the wall at an angle which meant his head impacted it as the car was upside down.

Because the solution would have hundreds of people crowding around the crash site blocking the access of track marshals and medical staff?

Remind me never to participate in any sort of motorsports no matter how much I enjoy RPing them on NS.

Do you think they were supposed to dial 911 to report the crash?

I'm pretty sure they always have EMS standing by during these events.
What would things have been like if every security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive? Or if during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand? The Organs would quickly have suffered a shortage of officers and transport and, notwithstanding all of Stalin's thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt!

Considering that she was German, I have to ask: were the photographers - French? Because she Floorsched that car right into that wall. You give a German female teenager a car, and you expect for it to not be destructive? (Granted, sometimes it's not, but is that usually the case?)

Good news is that now Asia's also included :P

Zing!

I wonder if Florsch took driving lessons from this lady: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YjkkjH0GnfY

My apologies then good sir,

Just as an fyi I bought her one of those Subaru's, with "eyesight" a crash prevention accessory (according to Subaru, it should not get into an accident at under 30 mph). Subaru is part of Fuji heavy industries, you know the people who built the bombers that blew the fuck out of pearl harbor. Mrs mermania has hit it twice.

Sequels, eh? The video has some impact, yet it's lacking some of the oomph from the last time a high-speed German projectile was fired in a bunker.
