A few people have looked but not contributed to the 'the constant in your life' thread thingy.

So, they might be interested in a something that reminds you of home thread?- home being a constant amongst other things.

I started this thread because of this post in the arts area- (favourite albums as it happens)

Probably John Edmond's Troopiesongs, it was the first album I had on tape and is one of those albums that reminds me of home.

That being said, I still stand by that Paul Simon's Graceland is one of the most solid and well put together albums out there.

Me? The way my dad could describe eggy bread or his mothers raspberry pie- jeez he was even slavering himself.
my mum's constant baking - I wouldn't mind her st.clement's cake or viennese shortbreads now.

That's just off the top of my head but I am sure you could do better.

[Arcturus Novus]

The smell of the beach at high tide, that unmistakable mix of salt and sand and petrichor. Seeing and hearing seagulls practically everywhere, even if you're a good 10 or 20 miles inland. Pine needles littering the ground perennially. The stretch of road between my house and my grandma's, all the little shopping centers and 7-Elevens and that giant church that I thought was a school for the longest time. Navy ships out in the bay, a ubiquitous sight given how close the shipyards were.

...fuck, dude, I forgot how much I miss home sometimes.

Along with the music of Zimbabwe helpfully mentioned in the OP. The smell of fresh tobacco, the taste of braai meat, and hot humid days with cool breezy nights. All have a way of bringing me back home.

The fact I hate living in Florida is constantly reminding me of home and how much better it is than this sad, miserable state.
