Any programmers/coders here?

Postby The Greater Low Countries » Thu Nov 15, 2018 4:18 pm

I guess I'll start; I learned Python back in 2012, and have experience in the following languages:
  • Python (I mean duh, just mentioned it)
  • JavaScript
  • HTML/CSS (also have integrated jQuery)
  • Ruby (can't remember really anything about it; sure makes beautiful code though)
  • Java/Android
Don't ostracize me for not liking the C family
Anyway, I'd love to get to know anyone on here who also appreciates this hobby!

Used to dabble a bit. At various times I have used Smalltalk, C, and C++. Want to get back into it more, so I am learning Python. I like Python a lot.

The only language I ever truly ‘learned’ was Java, and that’s only because I use to make plugins for Minecraft servers when I was younger.

I've got a few open source projects on my Github but the only one that pertains to NationStates is my RP Time Calculator that my region uses. https://github.com/compupro/rp-time-calculator

Even though most of my projects on Github are Javascript, I find Python to be my favorite. It's just so convenient for quick computations and simple scripts. I'm currently running a bot on my region's Discord which runs on an unofficial Discord API library for Python.

Took C++ and Unix about 15 years ago. Can't say I remember much of it but was taught the basics of object oriented programming too. I'd have to consult a textbook just to code a simple program now, my skills are so rusted.

I don't know how to code; the closest thing I have come to it is writing simple batch files.

I cannot call myself an expert in any particular language, but I have informal experience with Bash (when I made a API script to auto-login dormant nations), CSS, Javascript, HTML5, PHP, and SVG.

As a matter of fact, i'm fluent in JavaScript, CSS, and HTML, which was what attracted me to NS in the first place. I also know Python and C# (WFA). All of which I studied partially for an academic curriculum, and also for fun.

Yup! Well, not really, but a programmer-in-training in my university now. Planning to be a programmer one day.

- Novice in Java, C/C++, and in some bizarre twist... Beta Assembly Language courtesy of MIT.

- Intermediate in Python.

Other than that... yeah, I have nothing to offer at the moment. I'm just stepping into the programming world, and in fact pretty embarrassed that I joined in too late. Everyone around me are more or less fluent or Intermediate-Experts, and here I am.

I wouldn't say that I'm a coder. Well, not yet, anyway. I just started taking classes to get into the IT career track. Does anyone have any good suggestions for improving skills in Java? I seem to be understanding the concepts for the most part, but putting them into practice has been a bit difficult.

Get a book with Java programs typed out and type them in by hand.

Yes.

C, C++, assembler, Perl, Pascal, a smattering of COBOL and Java, various scripting languages.

Playing with Python. Didn't use it as Perl did what I needed it to do. Now I am going to play with the newly rediscovered AI and see how it works with machine learning.

I'm a Computer Science major in university right now (technically my major is Computer Information Systems but it's the same thing). I've learned a few programming languages such as Python, C++, and Java. I'm pretty good at the first two, but for whatever reason I suck at Java. I've also learned a little C# from when I would make "games" on Unity 3D. My career aspiration is to work in the field of cybersecurity so I'll most likely end up using a language like Python most of the time.

Professional game programmer here. Can't say much else about the job though without getting hung, drawn and quartered by the lawyers.
Been programing since I was in elementary school. Favorite languages are C++ and C# in that order. But am also experienced with like 5-10 more including the boring ones like Java and crazy wild stuff like x86 assembly.

Sufficed to say for me it's not a job but a calling.
Purpelia does not reflect my actual world views. In fact, the vast majority of Purpelian cannon is meant to shock and thus deliberately insane. I'm a python beginner, I'm right now researching BeautifulSoup to scrap websites. I'm learning the language through a website, that teaches you through exercises.

Python is a nice and simple programming language and I am happy to learn the basics, so that it might come in handy one day.

Not a programmer but I am interested and willing to learn coding. My only exposure in coding is when I was in Year 11 and 12, Information Technology and Computer Science. I wasn't able to continue CS in Year 12 because I failed it in Year 11, but I continued IT. I think I'm a fast learner when it comes to coding because when we're coding in class, some of my friends can't keep up with the teacher so I had to help them when I'm finished with my work. We did HTML and CSS in IT while we made simple desktop applications and website in CS. And to be honest, I liked IT and CS more than any of my other subjects. I just think coding is fun, even though you might spend days or weeks trying to figure out what on earth is wrong with your code.
