I Wish I Wasn't in Dixie: Across the Way

*Not my artwork.

Mankind would have become as the Great Old Ones; free and wild and beyond good and evil, with laws and morals thrown aside and all men shouting and killing and reveling in joy. Then the liberated Old Ones would teach them new ways to shout and kill and revel and enjoy themselves, and all the earth would flame with a holocaust of ecstasy and freedom.

HP Lovecraft's Call of Cthulhu

In 1952 the world came to accept the inescapable fact that all the trouble, and misery it had experienced for decades was the work of occultic societies and individuals. For a whole week the night sky turned blood red, and at its peak, the avatar of a local cult, and a group of plucky individuals battled it out with the aspect of death itself. For years a cult devoted the aspect of death sought to incarnate him into existence by using ten avatars at the height of the blood moon, and seemingly it almost worked. Yet in some backward town, the ritual stopped, and the tenth avatar went into a state of sleep. Now in 1962 the nine avatars and their servants ride forth causing destruction to, and from in a path that serves to awaken their tenth brethren under a new blood moon.

If they succeed the cults god death will merge from the ten avatars, and come to rule the universe. From there supposedly the worthy will be reborn as enlightened immortals who will recreate humanity in their image free from the old morals, laws, and ethics imposed by the "old gods". These old gods though petty still realize they have a role to play in maintaining the balance and cannot allow death to overtake what their creator bestowed to them. In this world monsters, men, abominations, and all sorts of terrors plague humanity, but despite this ongoing apocalypse humanity still struggles to exist. As cities fall various factions fight over their corpses in an ever-widening grand game, and one that you soon will be a part of.

The battle of cults, misfits, and monsters in a backward Mexican town in 1952 only delayed the end. The date is March 17th, 1962, and you count the days till your world ends or begins anew. In the thirties, the dead started rising in phases either as completely sapient or mindless monsters who had to be put down. Thirty days ago the dread third rising occurred, and this time it wasn't just a quick burn, and fizzle like the other two, but has continuously kept going on to include all those who have or will die. Those still intelligent, and human enough can quickly fit back into society albeit have to be quarantined due to their endless hunger for "meat" which is needed to stop from going feral.

The military initially set up sections for them to live in, and for those showing symptoms of going feral well...they dealt with them. Yet then another horrifying change happened whereas in the previous two risings the "freshies" i.e. intelligent, and human "ghouls" as we call those who rose suddenly, and irreversibly became feral in minutes. Reportedly people all over the globe reported hearing a strange signal, and suddenly it was utter chaos as previous normal ghouls became bloodthirsty savages. The military bombed many of the sectors they set up as a precaution regardless of whether the freshies turned or not. Since that day huge bonfires run constantly to dispose of any, and everyone that dies before they rise, and become a problem.

Radio silence could only hide the truth for so long, and leaks from the government blackout reveal that "As of March 17th, 1962 over half the human population is dying, dead, or soon to be both according to our statistics". After this report crowds across the world began rioting and breaking out of established safe zones looking for a better option. The various responses included either letting them go or simply gunning them down until nothing, but paste was left. Some military commanders cracked under the stressed and ordered their areas bombed. The panic killed millions with just as many choosing to kill themselves or entire families in ways that would ensure no resurrection.

A lot of suicides didn't go right and resulted in even more ghouls waking up confused, and ever increasingly hungry. A big spike in this happened a week ago, and the ghouls no longer able to contain their hunger would often take a bite out of their family members first before moving on to the rest of the neighborhood. A bite wound is pretty much an instant death sentence, and the remains of the military and police handle it appropriately in a way that ensures no resurrection. Various monsters, horrors, and abominations appearing a few days ago have caused many safe zones to fall, but others are still in operation for now. The biggest one remaining out west is currently Oklohama City, and either through quick thinking, luck, or something else you went down the right evacuation route.

The City is massively filled with people, and everyone who came in got registered and has to wear an identification bracelet at all times. The military is everywhere, and several support camps are in place to back the city up. You and a few others are currently holed up in a run-down apartment building in a city on the edge. There is hope as a group tasked with relocation are handling exams, and other tasks for a project known as "Outpost-12". The people in charge are very blunt as this "Outpost-12" is part of an after the end project with enough food, arms, entertainment, and supplies to keep a decent sized population happy, healthy, and living until a time comes for global repopulation.

You have a chance in hell, but its more than enough of a chance to make it across the way, and be evacuated to this place should you meet their "qualifications". Today the taskmasters want to test everyone in the apartment building to see if they are worthy additions for the outpost, but you can't shake the feeling something horrific is about to happen. Whether it is the increase in the number of militaries or the increase in curfew time. Something big is coming to Oklahoma City, and it might be big enough to wipe it off the map. Can you, and your fellow survivors make it across the way, and survive till the end or fall just like millions before you to the ghouls, cults, and monsters plaguing our world?

THEME

This story concerns itself heavily with H.P Lovecraft's works of Dagon, The Shadow over Innsmouth, Call of Cthulhu, and short story Nyarlathotep. Several inspirations from Stephen Kings It, and The Stand as well as Max Brooks World War Z are at play here. This a very different, and the fictional world from our own world, but instead of relying on small-town isolation like the previous roleplay this one hits closer with a major American city. This city is crowded with refugees and native citizens who are in a hopeless situation awaiting some slim chance of salvation in an apocalyptic scenario. The primary goal once the city falls to outside powers is to escape it, but escaping will not be an easy endeavor.

The Victorian culture, morality, and schizo-tech presence that dominates are the world is eroding as people give in to a seemingly hopeless world on its last legs. Southern Gothic is highly present, but instead in a large, and overcrowded near-southwestern city rather than an isolated railroad town in Mexico. Cosmic and religious horror fuse throughout this roleplay as vengeful gods, monsters, and abominations plague the dying species of humanity. Our placid isle of ignorance is cracking apart, and humanity can hide no longer even in the highly structured Oklahoma City which too will fade once a fire comes, and consumes everything. The world may be ending, but whether you choose to embrace this end, and become one with it is up to you.

In these final days you may rage against the machine, but be prepared for most simply to flee, and huddle. If power is what you desire then perhaps you should work with one of the factions. The factions will, of course, use you as pawns in an ever-widening great game of searching for relics, and artifacts in their wars, but you will gain something in the end. You could also choose to take the lead of one rather than being a follower, and mold them for the battle to come. The end is truly unavoidable, but how you shape it will determine the victor, and what happens to humanity afterward.

A SHORT LORE INTRODUCTION

Ten years ago people thought we were nearing the end, and who could blame them? The dead were rising to feast on the flesh of living all over the world. Various cults caused the murder rate to skyrocket by engaging in orgies of human sacrifice to resurrect or appease bloodthirsty, and ancient entities. One such cult, that we know today as the "Order of Death" came close to achieving their "enlightened immortality" by merging ten avatars to form their god i.e the aspect of death. The tenth one was wounded back into a state of slumber during a battle of legend in some now abandoned town in Mexico called Laggards Burrow.

The town is in ruins, and the various people went their own way thinking the earth safe, but in truth, they were very wrong. The nine remaining avatars have become known as "the nine riders" who go to, and from the corners of the earth to wreak havoc on a dying old world in an immense reign of terror. Thirty days ago the reign reached genocidal proportions with the start of the "third rising". The nine riders and their followers seek to bring about the tenth rider and free the worthy from the laws of life, and creation. This will require rebirth through a cycle of ecstasy, holocaust, and madness in order to bring about the "enlightened immortality" the worthy want for them, and all of the "new" humanity. These people think themselves worthy to change the balance creating a new creator with them as the new gods, and humanity as their servants.

The old gods who were created to ensure the balance realize this would be a fate worse than death, and if all else fails plan to awake the creator himself and cause the universe to reset. This would render all the schemes, and actions of the cult useless, and save the living even if no one would remember this world or anything about it. Currently many consider that the best option as the British have lost all contact with Africa, and India while the Soviets have gone silent. Paris which was bombed into a chemical hell by the Soviets from their seat of power in occupied Germany is giving out a few reports every few days. The French administration out of Algiers cannot seem to find out what happened to their troops in the no mans land of Northern France either.

Surveillance Planes simple show empty ruins, trenches, machine gun nests, and more. Indochina bombed to oblivion by the French who used an experimental substance to conduct death on a mass scale have come to regret it. The former colony now ruled over by ruins and monstrous abominations. Moscow has stopped sending out suicide bombers or propaganda messages, and the Shogunates adventures in coastal Siberia lend credence that something has gone horribly wrong in the Soviet Union. The Shogunates warped views concerning Buddhist impermanence, death of one's self, extreme militarism, and the imperial cult are becoming popular due to the fact the Shogunate is amazingly stable in a dying world. The people of the Americas no longer view the Shogunate as a "foreign devil" given the whole world ending scenario, and as such the various North American nations have come to rely on them militarily for aid to stay afloat.

Back in 1953 several months after the events in Laggards Burrow the fighting over the Pacific Northwest came to an end with the three powers in the region peacefully dividing up the Pacific Northwestern States. The Imperial States of Columbia gaining Oregon, the Shogunate taking Washington, and Great Plains Federation taking Idaho. The Columbians currently maintain a civilian government, but have evacuated the imperial capital of Montgomery for one of the Outposts somewhere. Many believe the Emperor personally invested in the creation of the outpost system, and this is why Columbia hasn't yet collapsed like so many other nations. Regardless the Emperor believes the current global system will fail, and once the order is given the outposts will repopulate the world for a new order, and time.

Regardless I welcome you all to this pet project roleplay of mine I Wish I Wasn't in Dixie: Across the Way, and please enjoy your stay especially how you choose to end it.

The old world is dying, and the new world struggles to be born: now is the time of monsters.
-Antonio Gramsci

Imperial Bureau of Investigation- Occult Division-Heartland
HIS MAJESTIES SERVICE--OKLAHOMA CITY
--ONGOING INVESTIGATION #372,000

- The School of Bartholomew Nettles
(active since August 1953)
Rejects, Orphans, and Widows who were a part of the "circus of freaks" established by the Nettles family since the fall of the Aztecs had no place to stay in Mexico with the disappearance of Bartholomew Nettles, and the collapse of his circus. This faction attracts followers by fitting them with powerful prosthetics that contain occult properties. Each member wanting a prosthetic must amputate the chosen limb, and sacrifice it in a bizarre ritual in order to ensure the prosthetic gains the power the wearer desires such as arms for strength, legs for running, wings for flight, and more. The school is run by a clique of doctors known as the "council of leeches" due in part to supposedly being leeches wearing human skin as the sacrifice they made for immortal life. Each member supposedly drinks a liquid that allows them to talk to the deceased Bartholomew Nettles somehow (if the rumors are true).

- The Conclave
(active since 1953)
Descended from a school of elementals who came out of Mexico after the mysterious events at Laggards Burrow they are all relatively young. Elementals are beings in touch with powers of water, fire, air, earth, energy, and more, but due to unique circumstances are either born or given the powers at a young age. Anyone over fifty who tries to access or gain these powers will simply disintegrate, but those young enough will gain them. By age fifty it is believed an elemental will become a being of pure element i.e their soul will be forever represented as an avatar of the element they were given such as fire or air. The order has found a way to make the transformation gradual, and also control the flow of new elementals onto the planet.

- The Hierarchy
(active since the late 1800s)
The Hierarchy reportedly was an organization established by the former mistress of Joseph Smith (Chloe Belton) who during her forties was savaged by an unknown animal, and then saved a faraway admirer who gave her cursed blood. This blood gave her immortal life, but at many costs such as avoidance of the suns now deadly rays. Ever since Ms. Belton's disappearance in Laggards Burrow the Mormon Church vilebloods have taken over the secret organization she built across North America and used it to further their own goals. Currently, they are in Oklahoma City seeking to protect fellow Mormons and church property. The new leader is using the secrets Ms. Belton gave him to launch massive attacks against the Order of Death by using a Golem army.

The sections of the city they possibly gain control of will most likely become blood farms to keep those who have taken the many "blessings" the hierarchy's leader offers from going too long without blood. At the cost of blood the hierarchy will keep the areas under their control safe against the order, and others, but how long will you be willing to pay the price? Of course, their secretive hold over blood magic, and golem creation could entice you more than the price you have to pay to join them.

- Jack's Companions
(active since 1913)
Formed by an enigmatic, and mysterious anarchist who ran amok in Mexico from 1913 onwards he suddenly disappeared sometime in 1952. No one knows the precise details, but during the conflict in Laggards Burrow he tried to take the town, and whether he failed or not is unknown. His companions practice the same brand of anarchism there founder espoused even if he was a time-traveling pirate who was a warlord ruling over parts of Mexico. Regardless the companions seem to share the same curse as their "master" with having a form of immortal life, but that doesn't mean they cannot get hurt. Nothing can truly kill them, but certain things can incapacitate them long enough to be out of the picture, and severe injuries will take time to heal.

Outside of their twisted immortality, and jovial spirit people seek them out to find out what it is they have control over since they have the ability to manipulate time in various ways. Reportedly their master Jack stole an artifact from the gods, and a trickster decided to play the ultimate prank on him. Sending him forward in time, and making him unable to die (taken to the extreme literally) jack was not prepared for a new world and tried to change it. One legend has him being blown in half by dynamite, and he took quite a few years to fully heal back from that. With him missing the companions are now coming out of Mexico and setting up in certain areas to do their work.

The areas they control will be practically without rule of law, but safer than others. They won't exact a blood price like the Hierarchy, but due to having a limited number of members they could lose out trying to battle the bigger factions. The time magic they possess is cursed but could prove very useful in the fight against the order of death, and others in the grand scheme of thing.

-The Mutilated
(active since 1962)
Servants to the blathering entity known as the unspeakable it drives people mad by appearing over an area and sending out a signal. To peer upon it would reduce most people save the strong-willed into a blubbering mess. This faction is not joinable, and the people a part of it are shells of what they used to be. If the unspeakable appears it means an invasion of otherworldly beings is about to commence. Once that happens, and the signal starts those closest to it will become unwilling servants to the force, and proceed to cut off all of their skin.

The mutilated earn their name not just by doing them, but also creating ritual knives to carve strange symbols into their skin which serve as symbols of power. The greater the degree of mutilation means the greater the power the mutilated has, and the mutilated are always together in large packs. They patrol their areas like very primitive tribes would, and it is best to get through these places stealthily. Not even the Order of Death will try these areas without backup. This means if you are willing to risk it you could find safety, and cut down your journey to another area in half. Of course, only the bravest would even think of daring to use the mutilated areas as a shortcut, but they are easy to find you only need to look for the totem statues, and sacrifices.

-The Servants of Horror
(active since 1897)
The Horror was once a god, but after an immense amount of corruption became a strange entity with an intense malevolence that roamed all over the earth as a cosmic force feeding off emotions. People made contracts with it all the time for extended lifespans, immortality, rewards beyond compare, or just straight up power. The Horror stays active in mortal affairs by slowly assimilating a host of its choice in order to have a conduit in which misery and misfortune can spread. Its former host was a soldier filled with such hate, and malevolence following the many wars in Mexico it chose to use him to collect souls in a trap known as Club Fortune until people destroyed the place, and freed the trapped souls. Currently, the host is unknown, but its new game is collecting power people who are jaded, and bitter often those out for revenge.

These people are granted awesome, and horrifying powers turning them into his servants known as "terrors". The longer they are working for him the more powerful they get, and the more inhuman they become. The horror in turn feeds off the malice, misery, and misfortune they create in order to stay awake. For those looking for simple revenge to those simply wanting power this "brotherhood" of extremists is the place for you. Be warned though that all things have consequences, and ultimately you may one day pay the ultimate price, and completely lose your humanity. If you are unlucky enough you may be chosen as the horrors next host during the next cycle if they wake up while you are still alive.

-The Merchants
(active since unknown)
For everything, there is always some profit to be made, and this is true even in the apocalypse. The merchants are a group of occult-minded businessman willing to do business with anyone for the right price. They will offer the survivors just about everything needed from basic supplies, to recharges, and more all depending on what you need. Merchant areas will be neutral zones so don't be surprised if you try to start fights, and suddenly find you lack your powers or weapons. Completing quests for merchants will have benefits like powers that can every now, and then be used like teleportation, invisibility, or a "pass" that grants you safe travels through various faction areas.

To possibly even join the Merchants requires doing so much to prove your worthiness, but the rewards are worth it. Of course you could try, and steal priceless artifacts from them, but this means you will likely get blacklisted making quests more difficult to complete, and some factions will probably just look down on your shameless opportunism.

- The Six Shooters
(active since 1928)
The Six Shooters are the occult version of law enforcement who don stereotypical sheriff, and deputy vestments of the "wild west", and are normal in every way save the fact they are harder to kill and have access to an occultic six-shooter. The very weapon that gives them the name can be loaded with any regular bullet, and be used to hurt occultic or supernatural beings, and if they have a "warrant" it can even kill them. They all swear an oath and act at the behest of a figure known as the Judge who seeks to bring the apocalypse to order. The Six Shooters can be joined by anyone will pay the price the "oath" forces on you such as abandoning this world, and the chance to die for a hundred years. The Judge has total control over where you go afterward, and you will be under the eye of justice for the duration of your term.

That said if you are the kind of person wanting to bring the world a sense of justice then perhaps this organization is for you. The areas run by the six shooters will follow a strict code of "laws", and be perhaps the most civil in the entirety of Oklahoma City.

- The Grey Seers
(active since the 1860s)
Run out of New Orleans the Grey Seers represents the political, social, and economic interests of the various magical pacts, and bloodlines that are within the bounds of the empire. They are a conglomerate of interests who have served to protect the world of magic, and the occult making sure only so many people know about it. The predominant branches include practitioners of French, and Spanish magic in New Orleans, and the countryside. The shamanistic clans of the Appalachian mountains, and the northern reaches of the empire. The indigenous magic practiced by the recognized native tribes who reside in the empire, and more.

The newer branches include the Gullah who use west-African based magic, Plantation families who practice a form of ancestry magic, and even limited forms of sacrificial based magic. All members swear to secrecy in order to uphold the "masquerade" between the world of magic and the normal world. Of course, this vow to secrecy ended when the world began to end, and hellish monsters began roaming the streets. The Grey Seers seek to use their power to either keep delaying the end or find a way to stop it once and for all. This means they are often the most combative next to the Hierarchy when it comes to fighting the order of death.

For the Grey Seers order is needed in this chaotic world, but also they cling to a strict sense of tradition, and customs. Their areas will often enforce the laws, customs, and traditions of their society as well as what they expect of Columbian society. Unlike the anarchist companions or the strictly no-nonsense six shooters all the racism, classism, sexism, and blood-purity obsessions the Columbians have will be at play here. The Grey Seer areas will no doubt be safe, and unlike the Hierarchy don't extract a blood price, but their rules, and regulations are no doubt going to drive the more freedom-oriented to leave. That said work with the Grey Seers can fetch a person a nifty reward, and perhaps even some arcane relics, and artifacts.

- The Hunters Lodge
(active since 1900)
The Hunters Lodge is a mysterious organization bound together by the fact they have willingly ingested a unique type of assimilation virus. A dying species came to Earth nearly 62 years ago and sought to preserve themselves by spreading their DNA through humanity through the act of consumption. Then the next step was to bind their souls to humanity as well almost in a parasitic fashion, and for a minority of people the procedure went through completely. The descendants of this action have devoted themselves to becoming one with existence by continuing this act of assimilation in multiple ways. The hunters do this by hunting down those they consider interesting and merging themselves with them in order to create a brand new being.

Hunters contain all the souls of the beings they assimilate and gain a fraction of the powers of each being they take on. They see this as the best way for humanity to survive the current apocalypse they are in and show no qualms about assimilation. It is considered an act of mercy since the person soul survives protected within them. The areas run by the Hunters Lodge are diverse in the types of people present within them since everyone there is part of the lodge. Even the weakest members have absorbed one or two beings, and thus can be a challenge to fight should you take them on. Of course, the hunters are benevolent in intention, and fighting them might not be in your best interest, but from an outsiders perspective, one might see them as part of some assimilation plot to take over humanity.

The hunters care nothing for taking over a dying species, but in preserving it since all descendants carry within them the souls of a refugee who came to this planet to escape their own demise. Joining the hunters will ensure that in some form you gain the power you seek, but also that something of you lives on even after physical death.

- The Apothecarist League
(active since 1880s)
The Apothecarist League focuses on the secrets of healing the body through otherworldly means such as herbal, energy, and other types of magic to heal, and aid humanity. The Apothecarist League primarily rose in competition to the Grey Seers and their conformist stance to the empire. The league is primarily made up of groups that don't fit into the standard or accepted magical pacts or bloodlines. They seek to help people even as the end continues to ravage the world. Elemental magic which is taboo outside of the Conclave is explored in limited ways through the league so long as they can help people heal. Unlike the other groups, this faction serves to heal, and thus employ blockers to disable offensive magic from being used.

Reportedly it can calm even the most aggressive of people resulting in some of the more penitent people using the league areas as retreats to pay for their past sins of aggression. The league will be the primary servicer of medicine outside of hospitals, and stockpiles which will run out as time in the roleplay goes on.

- The Night Binders
(active since time unknown)
The Night Binders have mastered the trades of assassination, stealth, and infiltration in a world which overly uses them. The binders have contracts that allow them to exploit time, the shadow, and anywhere darkness is present in order to move silently as fog, and wind. They can move quietly as a rat in the sewers or as quick as a crow in the skies. The art of direct conflict is not the trade of the binders, and instead, they focus on hiding and stealth. Pay the right price, and the binders will get the information you need, but be careful in your dealings with them. They have no direct goal like every other faction since only the darkness interests them.

Working for them might gain you a cloak to stay invisible when not moving or shoes that keep you as silent as a roach, but all things come with a price. The strange entity the binders worship deals exclusively in sacrifice, and per each item used a contract must be made, and the appropriate sacrifice was given. The areas the binders dominate are the tunnels and the sewers since they are out of the way of direct faction conflict.

- Servants of the True End
(active since 1952)
The Servants of the True End are a faction some consider just as dangerous as the order of death, but for different reasons. They seek to awaken the void-maker (creator of life, and the universe) in order to trigger a universal phase known as the "the true end". This is when the void-maker awakes from his slumber, and battles his true enemy causing the universe to end, and for the second cycle of existence to begin. The universe will begin again, and all the work the other factions will have achieved for good or bad will be erased. The servants consider this a better option than allowing the balance to be permanently broken by the aspect of death and their followers.

The servants are heavily religious from all kinds of religions, and also display an obsession with magic that deals heavily with life and creation. They don't seek power like many factions, but instead, their quests will involve primordial relics and artifacts that date back to the beginning of the universe. The servants are unfettered in their cause and acknowledge that many will die for their cause. Yet these souls will be reborn into life again once the cycle has restarted, and the living is free from the tyranny of the order of death. Their areas will most likely be churches and other religious institutions in Oklahoma City.

- The Order of Death
(active since the 1930s)
The North American chapter of the Order of Death is heavily influenced by the politics, and policies of former actress Jessica Dunn. The former actress retired to the Mexican town of Laggards Burrow and ran a spy network which caused misery, and death in the name of her unfettered vision. Near or during the time of the fabled battle of Laggards Burrow she disappeared, and her acolytes have been in cooperation with the nine riders ever since. Once the tenth avatar is found and awoken the order will seek to commence the "birthing" of their God into the world and reshape it for the worthy. This faction primary goal is to find someone who will be a suitable host for the tenth avatar to awaken in, and bring about the end.

They do not care who has to be sacrificed or used as a pawn in order to achieve their goals once bit. Their areas will be the mansion areas, and sites where people will go to commemorate, and honor the dead. Their specialties in the magical fields include life extension, manipulation of the powers everyone innately has, and things that have to do exclusively with death.

• Conditions

-The Leeching Rites
A condition some experts speculate descends from a dark deal made by the Nettles family to an old god or perhaps even the horror this is not something taken lightly. Discovered by the Spaniards in their search for the fountain of youth, but primarily located in Mexico until recently was a phenomenon known to the occultic world as the "leech men" who were people that forsake their bodies in exchange for eternal life. Their soul would possess a horde of leeches, and their body would become a hollowed out puppet, and hide their new form. The leech men follow a contract known as "the leeching rites", and abide by it strictly causing them to abandon their puppet bodies, and conduct unholy rites one night a year.

-The Infested
The infested are people who in their attempt to fight the leech men were infected in the process and are slowly undergoing a horrible transformation.

+Initially the infected feel an immense surge in abilities, strength, and mental clarity.
-The leech begins to parasitically take over your mind, and every use of the new abilities will cause you to slowly lose control over your body.
-/+ Your grasp on reality begins to alter drastically, and you are granted access to a second sight.

- Occultic Prosthetic
You have joined the school and accepted the offer to have a part of your replaced with an occult powered prosthetic.
+ Prosthetics contain their own sets of benefits.
*Prosthetic legs offer greater running/jumping.
*Prosthetic wings allow for short-term flight.

*Prosthetic spinal cord allows greater endurance, and the ability to jump from any height, and survive.
- You are given a magic binding ensuring you remain loyal and pay off the debt owed to the school for their surgical services. The binding will punish you for disloyalty or failure to complete quests by inflicting pain at the casters requests.

- Element Within
The conclave has chosen to welcome you, and grant to you one of their "gifts".

+You may now be granted access to the elemental manipulation of one elemental type: earth, air, fire, water, energy, electricity, metal, creation, or more.
- Use of powers exerts the body, and the possessor will need to rest after significant usage.
-/+ By age fifty you will either become an avatar made up purely of the element you are gifted with or die if you aren't ready.

-Becoming one with the Blood
You have earned the trust of the hierarchy, and as one of their soldiers been given the privilege of wielding their technique of blood magic.
+ You start out with small abilities since blood magic is a sacrificial rite, and requires a price for each use.
+ A crafty wielder can learn to manipulate the blood of others in order to ensure the price is paid by them rather than themselves.
- Blood magic exerts the body, and as a result, the stress will become more apparent if the user has to use their own blood frequently.

- Twice Damned
You have conducted a forbidden blood magic rite and feasted on the blood of one of the prominent members of the Hierarchy. You are now forbidden in all hierarchy areas and kill on sight to their members.
+You are now immortal and have access to night vision, enhanced agility, enhanced speed, and are able to counter quite a few people in a fight.
-You are cursed to both man, and vileblood, but instead of feeding on the blood of men or animals your curse forces you to feed on the blood of vilebloods.
+You gain the strengths, memories, and everything of any vileblood you feed upon, and should you kill a vileblood during the draining your power goes up immensely.
-You are twice damn first to mankind and vileblood, and then to the night as the absence of light burns your skin. The day is your primary hunting ground, and the darkness burns your skin to keep a source of light with you at all times.
+ You have the ability to spread your twice damned lineage to a person of your choosing

-Bloodlust Incarnate
Either as a loyal human servant to the hierarchy or one of the fellow vileblood members of the hierarchy you are now subject to a horrid bloodlust.
+ You feel an immense surge of power, especially when taking a life.
- As a vileblood, you can no longer simply drain, and go, but must resist draining humans or animals completely.
*Giving in to the hunger will cause you to start losing your humanity.
- As a human, you must restrain your bloodlust or else become a mindless killer.
+ Blood magic wielders will feel twice as powerful with this condition active but must resist the need to drain people entirely in order to pay the increasing price of their powers.

-The Sunstone Ring [artifact]
You have gained one of the most treasured vileblood artifacts, the ring is known as the sunstone.
+Fullborn vileblood wearers can now walk amongst the day without losing their lives or becoming weak to the point of death.
- The sunstone ring exacts a price by numbing your powers during the daytime since it feeds on the suns rays in order to protect you.

-One reborn in the blood of the servant
The leader of the hierarchy has chosen you for some quality he found worthy, but not worthy enough to gain the full "blessing".
+/- Your blood is now bound to the hierarchy, and their will.
+ You now have access to a greatly expanded lifespan with enhanced agility, senses, and speed.
- You will need to take blood in every two days or risk growing bloodlust, and weakness to the sun.
- The exposure you have to the sun naturally needs to be limited unless you have weakened strength and vitality.
-/+ The blessing is reliant on a blood ritual being complete every 40 years or else you risk becoming mortal again.

-One reborn in the blood of the true born

You have been conducted into the Mormon faith, and the hierarchy has seen fit to grant you access to the sacred rituals of the vileblood "blessing".
+ You are now completely immortal until the end times come as Mormonism describes them so use your gifts wisely to spread the goals of the hierarchy and the faith.
+ Your agility, speed, and senses increase threefold, but to compensate sleep during the daytime must occur for you to be "well rested".
-/+ Your are forced to obey the will of your sire as the commands of the hierarchy dictate.
- Your blood can only withstand an hour in the sun before you start to boil from the inside out.
-/+ You must intake blood every twelve hours, but thankfully only a drop is good enough to keep the blessing working.
-/+ Resist the urge to completely drain an animal or human as it draws you closer to the bestial nature within your blood.

- The Leaders Blood
You have through some action come to lead the hierarchy, and now within you is the blood of the leader of the hierarchy.
+ You are more powerful than any other vileblood or servant with five times the speed, agility, and senses than others.
-/+ You crave blood every six hours and must learn to reign in the beast or else risk cursing the bloodline.
- Without the sunstone ring, you will boil alive in the sun's presence if you are outside for more than a few minutes during the day.
-/+ Where full blood vilebloods have difficulty with mirrors you find them completely abhorrent but can use them to your advantage to cast illusions to protect yourself.
-/+ Garlic and other cooking herbs are intoxicating to normal vilebloods, but you are completely helpless against them.
+ You know the secrets to fashion golems out of clay.

- A Golem Protector [Powerful Magic]
Once known to Jewish mystics the secret was lost until the mistress of Mormonism found it, and used them to her advantage to create a loyal army. She used this loyal army to wage war in the states that mistreated Mormons until coming to her senses and ending the bloodlust. Now with the mistress gone, and the new leader of the Hierarchy in control he has seen fit to bestow to you a trinket as a token of his appreciation.
+Golems make great defenders and can regenerate most of their wounds rather quickly.
- They aren't the brightest bunch in the world, and you will often have to restrain their combative nature unless you risk provoking a fight.
+ Golems are giants, and that alone can intimidate enough people to back off from a fight with you should you use him for intimidation.

- The Companions Curse
You have become unkillable like the companions, and the mythical Papa Jack.
-/+ You may be immortal, and nearly invulnerable, but that doesn't mean regular wounds won't do the trick to incapacite you.
* Gunshots, stabs, and everything else that forces a normal human to heal or maim them will eventually heal, but do take time. The worse the injury the greater time it will take to heal. You can even survive being blasted to shreds by artillery, but the result won't be pretty for a while.
+ You gain access to the time manipulation abilities the companions have but need to rest unless you risk exerting your body.
-/+ You can travel using your soul to project out of your body while sleeping, but be careful as going too far can risk separating you from your body in a state of limbo.

- Papa Jacks Watch
You have found the watch of the mythical Papa Jack, and have taken on the same curse he had. This curse was inflicted by the Gods that barred him from dying unless very specific circumstances were met.
-/+ You are now corrupted and cursed by the Gods themselves for stealing this divine relic.
+ You now have a greater field of control over time and time-based magic.
+ You can now claim leadership over the companions.
+ If you choose to break the watch, and fuse the shards within you your body will regenerate far faster in regards to wounds.
-/+ You will need to sleep twice as long when you use your abilities.

- The Ritual
From the School you have learned the dark arcane secrets to life extension/wealth/etc the nettles found out in their dealings with the horror.
+ You have chosen to make a contract with the horror for either a longer life, wealth, or power.
- You have to mutilate a part of your body to serve as a reminder of the contract, and it will never truly heal marking the consequences of your actions.
- You must make a sacrifice to the horror in order to complete the ritual. It expects blood to be drawn, and the steps to be followed exactly or else.

- A Terror
You have chosen to become a fellow architect of malice, and misery drawing blood for the horror in exchange for power.
+You gain access to a terrifying, and simply inhuman state of frenzy that allows you to become an avatar of the horror for a short time.
- You start to lose your humanity the longer you work for the Horror, and risk becoming the next host during the next cycle.
+ Your frenzy state goes up in power, and horror the longer you retain, and obey the contract.

-Bringer of Justice
You have worked to free the souls from the traps the terrors use and gained a relic as a reward.
-/+ You will become an immediate enemy of the servants of horror, and they will hunt you without end.
+ You have the capabilities of killing terrors even during their heightened frenzy state should you play your cards right.
+ You will be granted access to a special weapon known as "souls vengeance" which can be used once daily, and kill the current host of the horror. If you play it right you can also use a binding ritual to put the horror back into a state of sleep until the next cycle.

- The Host
You have destroyed the previous host of the Horror, but couldn't set the Horror back to sleep in time. Instead, thanks to a binding ritual the Horror is now restricted to your body through a relic worn on a necklace.
- The Horror will plague you in your dreams, and slowly work trying to corrupt you into the new host over a span of decades.
+ You will become more resistant to damage, and have greater senses, and agility, but be careful of your sanity.
- Your sanity will be tested, and if it fails you will become the new host.

- The New Host
Either by failing to defeat the Horror the right way or by failing to keep your sanity in check the Horror has consumed you, and you now in some way serve its will in spreading misfortune, and misery in your wake.
- You are subject to the wild whims of the Horror regardless of what it wants.
+ You can slowly infect citizens of the town, and assimilate them into the "collected" which will transform upon your demand
+ You grow in strength and have enhanced agility, senses, and other powers.
- You slowly start to lose your emotional ties to humanity and become like the Horror feeding off emotions.

- Passerby
By working with the Merchants you have gained an ability that can temporarily neutralize any offending parties aggression towards you, but the spell is limited to one use per day.
+ Useful for players who want to go the more diplomatic route even as the world comes dragging to an end.

-Jack of All Trades
You have become an official member of the merchants, and now wherever you go you will represent them, and their interests so watch your actions.
+ You gain access to limited spells involving invisibility, teleportation, and neutralizing aggressive actions against you.
- Other factions might look down on you for what they consider shameless opportunism.

- The Raider
You have chosen to steal precious artifacts from the Merchants, and as such are blacklisted from their areas on pain of death.

For the Badge
You have taken the oath of the six shooters, and are now subject to the whim of their mysterious judge, and their harsh interpretation of the law, and order.
+ Your badge grants you authority to act as judge, jury, and execution so long as you obey the will of the judge.
+ "Warrants" given by the judge allow you to execute the target without interference.
+ You gain access to an occultic six-shooter but have to rely on refilling stations to get the bullets that are capable of harming occultic entities.
+ You can take quite a pounding in terms of damage, but can still be hurt or even killed.
- You are completely subservient to the whim of the judge.

- Ghoulification
A ghoul has infected you or killed you, and you have risen as one of the "freshies". A ghoul who retains their intelligence, and humanity, but needs to eat raw meat every so often to keep from going feral.

If you start becoming feral then the following will apply.
- You will start having rot around the area of infection within the first few days, and have to find ways to cover the smell.
- You will start getting skinnier, and skinner all the while hungering for raw flesh and must find ways to satiate the hunger before you turn on a human.
-Your hair will start to fall out, and you must find ways to cover the areas of your skin undergoing the spreading ghoulification.
+ You will become stronger, have a great sense of smell, and become faster as your body transforms, but the stronger you become the more likely you are to join the horde.

-For the Grey
You have joined the grey seers, and become one of the many magical bloodlines or pacts that they accept within their rank
+ You gain access to a stone representing the magic bloodline or pact you have chosen to join as a member of the seers.
- You must obey all orders your local lodge hands out, and expect to become an immediate enemy with the Order of Death.

-Lodge Leader
You have risen through the ranks, and become the leader of the local branch of Grey Seers within Oklahoma City. You are expected to handle disputes, and maintain order in the areas the seer's control.

-A Fellow Hunter
You have taken the oath of the lodge, and are dedicated to preserving whatever is left of humanity by any means necessary.
-/+ You can assimilate animals, monsters, and humans gaining a fraction of their strengths, and weaknesses.
-/+ You carry the souls of every being you assimilate with you, and if you don't reign them in you can be subject to the whims, and fancies of the souls. You must immediately make it clear you are the dominant soul or risk losing control of your body.

-The power of healing
You have joined or worked with the apothecarist league enough to earn their trust, and they have begun revealing their secrets to you.
+/- Magical blockers can completely neutralize aggressive parties actions against you and can be employed all day at the cost of you losing all offensive magical spells.
+ You begin studying the various magics taboo or not to find various ways to heal your teammates, and others.
- You will earn the distrust of the Grey Seers who view the Apothecarists as non-conformists.

-Joining the binders
You have become a member of the binders, and have started mastering traversing the tunnels, and sewers in order to get around.
-/+ You lose all direct offensive magic, and focus instead on stealth, and indirect offensive magic such as traps, and ambushes for distraction.
+ Depending on the contract you make with the mysterious entity ruling over them your powers will vary.
*You can move as quiet as a rat or fly as quick as a crow.
* You might gain shoes that make only the slightest of noise.
* You might gain a cloak of invisibility.
* You could also move in storm, fog, and shadows.
-/+ All contracts made come with their own price since Binders practice sacrificial rite magic.
+ The Binders will provide free information to their members that can aid in their quests should they earn the organizations trust otherwise you have to pay.

-Servant to the true end
You have joined a group that is in direct opposition with the Order of Death like the Grey Seers, but you also have the ire of other factions as well. You seek to awaken the Creator (Void-Maker), and cause a reset of the universe bringing about the second cycle thus ending the current one, and rendering all that has happened moot.
+ You gain access to primordial creation, and life magic.
- Most factions oppose you out of principle, but the Order of Death hates you for what you stand for.
+/- You will find sympathy from the most religious, and churches, and other places of worship are likely to serve as gathering places for your fellow members. Do not be surprised if other factions try to root you out from them.

-Deathly Journeyman
The order of death has seen fit to take you under their tutelage.
+ You gain access to a wide network of information, and beginning rituals to practice, and develop.
- The remaining people view you with suspicion due you spending too much time with the order in their more occult pursuits.

-Deathly Mage

+ You gain even greater access to information as well as secret routes around Oklahoma City, and access to the underground lair of their headquarters.
+ You learn the secrets of the soul as well as finding ways of expanding your lifespan.
+ You can begin communing with avatars of death and find ways to master your trade.
- Your reputation within the city continues to sink even further as they become more suspicious of you, and this means you may have to rely on your fellow cultists to trade goods, and find jobs.

As a cultist you have chosen to focus on the arts of stealth, espionage, and the secretive world of intelligence.
+ You have access to an invisibility power that can be used once per day, and you can manipulate time in limited ways.
+ You gain a bonus operating at night and can become one with the fog to hide from your enemies.

- The Brawler
You have chosen to use what nature gave you, and focus on your strength as a positive force for the cult.
+ You gain access to an action which allows you to use an unnatural amount of strength once per day but be aware that this action isn't subtle.
+ You have greater agility, and dexterity in regards to many things, and can even take a few bullets before the damage starts to become apparent.
- You will not be as good with actions requiring diplomatic solutions, and if you don't keep your anger in check will be prone to an enraged state.

- Avatar of Death
Under the night of the blood moon you have become host to the sleeping avatar, and now the ritual begins to awaken your powers, and the avatars consciousness.
+ Under the blood moon, your abilities increase six fold in whatever category you chose to invest in.
- You will become shut in at the headquarters meditating, and unlocking the primordial secrets the other riders inform you about.
+ You gain a persuasive ability to have cultists fight to the death to preserve you in your transformative state (should factions choose to attack the HQ).

-I am become Death
You have completed the ritual becoming one of the ten and sent out a telepathic message summoning the nine riders to your location. This event triggers madness, and enlightenment amongst Oklahoma City as well as the beginning of the end.
+You can choose to honor the cultist's requests for immortality, and power or kill them, and use their souls to power your quests.
+ You can take control of any nearby ghouls, and form a horde to lead an assault on any positions of enemy factions.
+ You can induce madness within Oklahoma City by forcing episodes of enlightenment or homicidal mania upon weaker-willed individuals.
* You must defeat all who would challenge your right to rule as an avatar of death before the final night of the blood moon ends or else risk being sent back into a state of sleep [this delays the end for another ten years].
* If other riders are defeated as well then the end is delayed until further notice, and if the cult is destroyed then the end is stopped permanently.
* If you come out victorious then you, and the other nine riders merge into the aspect of death and change the world.
Technology in this roleplay is predominantly schizo-tech when it comes to a definitive genre. The overall feeling is entirely southern gothic and based in the times of Queen Victoria so victorian clothing, style, dress, foods, and such are present in this roleplay. The military has dominated the progress of vehicles forcing regular civilians to rely on unstable "motor carriages" for short-term travel around towns or trains, and zeppelins for long distance travel. Televisions flopped, and everyone relies on radios for far-off entertainment, and news alerts. Planes traverse the sky, but only the military handles them, and civilian passenger planes are a luxury very few can afford it at all. Telegrams and pneumatic tubes are the primary modes of communication and delivery of important items or news. The military holds the secret to refined oil, and the engines to use them so steam and gasses are used as energy sources with some eager plantation owners exploring cotton as an energy source.

Pavlov's techniques have taken a morbid turn with regards to the continuance of slavery, and people try and find ways to reduce slaves ability to have free will, and not want to have freedom. The so-called Pavlovian school is behind this disturbing trend, but for now, it is only a vocal minority as even most people find their ideas abhorrent. Weapon technology involving windup, gas bullets, and other things is the new fad of the day despite their experimental nature they are proving quite useful in fighting the undead if only slightly better than revolvers, and rifles.

An example of this is provided below in the following link.
https://www.gaslampgames.com/tag/you-ha ... tning-gun/

For the moment I cannot think of anything else technology wise that can be brought up, but this is a cooperative roleplay, and as such group contributions are very welcome.

In 1864 President Davis was assassinated while in a tour of the Confederacy, and due to multiple issues starting to tear at the cracks, it was no surprise things started to fall apart the moment a disgruntled veteran let out the first shots. In order to prevent collapse the military took power, and in 1865 they invited Count of Paris (in title), Louis Philippe of Orleans, to take the title of Emperor by May 7th, 1865. What followed is today known as the Conference of Montgomery which set up the way the successor government to the Confederacy would operate from here on out until it ended. A rather modest plantation house in Montgomery would serve as the initial palace until the government could get back on its feet.

Conference of Montgomery (1865)
The Military Junta which had been ruling in Richmond after President Davis assassination decided a convention was needed in order to transition the country back to normal, but in the end, a more radical group with monarchist leanings essentially took over and enforced their vision on the Conference. The Articles of the Session restored the majority of the civilian government, but the following edits were added to this new binding document making it far more different than the Confederate Constitution.

A) The Military was made an inseparable branch within the imperial government to be led by the Command Council.

B) The executive branch of the Presidency was heavily reduced in function, and form strictly limiting what the person in office could do within a five-year term limit.

C) The office of the Emperor was added as a "fifth branch" with powers, privileges, and responsibilities to the people of Columbia.

D) Military Service would guarantee citizenship in the empire, and grant with it a set of privileges, and responsibilities. A draft would be allowed, but in order to appease the majority, slave-owning plantation masters would not be exempted from service in times of war.

E) The Imperial Congress would be restored to authority, but be restructed in several different ways.
The Imperial Congress was made up of two levels first being the General Assembly, and the second being the Ratifiers. The General Assembly had several different groups defined by which they could represent.

*The House of the Minor Races was added to protect native Americans, their lands, and their interests due to the fact many tribes sided with the Confederacy during the civil war. It would also expand to include people from the Spanish speaking parts of the America, and Asians in the western areas as well. In 1896 The Freedmen's Bureau was added to honor the promises made to Freedmen and newly freed slaves who fought with the Empire rather than siding with the U.S. Since then military service has been the number one way most slaves often gain their freedom.

* The House of the Yeomanry which at first included just basic property owners, but after the Western Rebellion (1883-1886) also called the First Texan Rebellion the property requirement limits were reduced drastically allowing nearly all farmers, property owners, and small business owners to be represented.

* The House of the Commons serves to represent your everyday average joe who doesn't meet the qualifications for the house of the Yeomanry or the racial requirements for the House of the Minor Races. This house was added in part to counter the fuming wave of republican guerillas in the aftermath of their failure to recreate the republic i.e. The Confederacy.

* The House of the Nobility allows only those who have been knighted or have received a title, and estates from the empire for service or inherited it to qualify. Most of the nobility here is the plantation elite from before the war of the southern rebellion, but exceptions, especially for war heroes, have been made.

The General Assembly works on the laws, and the Ratifiers go through the carefully draft by draft ensuring they are constitutionally valid before ratifying them (hence the name).

F) Establishment of a system of nobility, economic nationalization of valuable assets, and a theory of political division by racialism i.e. dividing funding in districts by race often encouraging districts to desire racially homogenous population. This practice, in theory, would reserve the funding for freedman in a population with a majority freedman population rather than going to the white or other minority.
*Slavery is not accounted for in this new system in regards to funding since slaves are property. Thus a majority white district can be white even if the "majority" are slaves.

His Imperial Majesty Louis Philippe (Philip the 1st) (1865-1894)

The reign of Philip the first is marked by stride, hampering, and progress for Columbia, and its citizenry. Philip proved a popular emperor but had to handle difficult relations with France due in part to still claiming the title of the Kingdom of France as head of the house of Orleans. Regardless Columbia enjoyed cordial relations with Britain and sought to revamp the system of slavery in accordance with the Conference of Montgomery. The latter part of his reign involved expeditions into the collapsing states of Central America as well as seizing assets from the dying empire of Spain. From 1883 to 1886 the western states revolted harkening back to the truly democratic nature of the old Confederacy.

The "second confederacy" never gained the momentum or leadership the first had, and its major proponent surrendered after the disasterous battle of New Orleans cut their army into four parts. The rebellion would continue for a few months before the secessionists folded completely. To the U.S, and foreign observers the death of secessionism within the former Confederacy was greatly ironic at best, and surreal at worst. The emperor out of pity chose to enact "kind" retribution upon the rebellious states, and by 1890 they regained full representation. The reign of Philip the first ended badly not because of anything he did, but rather because it was in the middle of a war.

A new generation of Americans had grown resentful to their southern neighbor's success and chose to go to war with them, and with the death of the Emperor, many Columbians questioned whether or not the people's spirit could keep up.

His Imperial Majesty Philippe (Philip the 2nd) (1894-1926)
The ascension of the second emperor came during the "Second War of the States" as some called it. The war at first was going badly for the Columbians with the Union making an offensive that came close to splitting the empire in half at Nashville, and then during one bad winter Columbians were able to launch a series of counteroffensives that trapped the offensive army. One such member was a younger Theodore Roosevelt who fought a guerilla warfare style campaign to simply escape Columbian lines and gets his men out. Ultimately by 1896, it became clear the war was no longer sustainable especially with ventures into the heart Union California.

A peace was signed, and by the late 1890s, a sense of normalcy returned. Further compromises were made with both the freedman and the non-property owning citizenry due to their loyalty, and sacrifice in the war. Some critics believe this also came in time during the Texan Rebellion or Second Western Rebellion (1897-1899). This resulted in the state of Texas losing representation till well after the great war. Venezuela and Columbia fell to Columbian forces by 1910, and the last years of Philips reign saw the fall of the U.S. During the great war the U.S, and Columbia held one last round in a war that many consider by a proxy a part of the Great War. From 1912 to 1915 a revanchist presidency in the U.S seemed incredibly close to their goals, but the failure by Theodore Roosevelt to stop a counter-offensive towards Detroit sent morale plummeting.

Papers contain the famous photos of Columbian troops marching in Detroit, and with that, the U.S was split in half, and very vulnerable. A compromise candidate came into power in 1916, and the war effort ended on incredibly harsh terms. Despite losing the battle of Detroit Roosevelt was still a popular general, and protested the harsh fines, and land grabs, but didn't run for president or any meaningful position. Instead, he chose to retire at his ranch in the Dakotas as the Union fell apart in a severe depression in 1921. Philip would die witnessing this neverending depression continually go downhill despite his best attempts at charity efforts.

His Imperial Majesty Jean (Jean the 1st) (1926-1940)

Jean came into power to witness the degradation of Europe following the Great War, and the setup of powers for yet another one thanks to the pitiful treaty of Versaille. Jean would later claim the title "Emperor of Mexico" in part due to the last emperor finally dying from injuries sustained during a civil war back in the 1910s by a figure known as "Papa Jack". As a result, Nathan Bedford Forrest would eventually be named "Interim Administrator of Mexico", and the country would start being assimilated into Columbia. Jean left the world as it was on the edge of madness, and also witnessed the collapse of the U.S into multiple nations.

His Imperial Majesty Henri (Henri the 1st) (1940-Present)
Henri the 1st has reigned for twenty-two years, and the world went mad during his twelfth year of ruling. Columbia continued to assimilate Mexico despite the occult war raging there. The assimilation of possessions in Central America and upper south America went just as planned regardless of sporadic undead risings, and occultic wars. After the legendary battle of Laggards Burrow the occult settled down until 1962. Now the empire is slowly crumbling, and Henri through funding of a series of self sufficient communities for an after the end scenario intends to preserve Columbias legacy somehow. The emperor has gone into hiding, and the government has evacuated Montgomery, but continues to rule from somewhere even as the world tears itself apart.

A mysterious enigma as known by many since the untimely death of Stalin, and fall of his regime sometime in 1946. By many, it is simply known as "the country" or perhaps more fittingly Eurasia adapting its name unironically from novelists George Orwell's work of the same name Eurasia (1948). A story about a country seeking to achieve a global government yet in a constant internal revolution, and perpetual war. Someone clearly took it to heart and turned a book into a nightmarish reality. The "country" as its numerous, and evergrowing global citizenry call it is ruled not by one man, but something loosely translated as "The Committee of Revolutionary Purity, and Safety".

Nobody really knows who runs the C.R.P.S, but it changes yearly in accordance with the "countries" orthodoxy of political thought. The committee espouses only one belief is valid, and that belief is known as the "ideology". It espouses continuous external revolution around all the worlds countries like Trotsky. The first stage believes in the creation of a Eurasian superstate based off radical nationalism, and socialist beliefs enforcing a new "tradition" and running away with foreign ones like Christianity. The committee takes Stalin's "socialism in one country" ideal a bit far forcing countries that have recently undergone revolution to be assimilated or else.

The ideology also espouses internal revolution for both already established territory and newly assimilated territory. The newly assimilated territory is violently expunged of its forms of property ownership, government, and identity in service to an identity based on Eurasian ideas, religions, and government. Current territory constantly undergoes internal revolution to continue to perfect itself according to ideals of the "ideology". Due to being in "phase one" of the state the "country" is at war on every front in Africa, and Eurasia seeking to claim it all. The economy is run by a strict command style, but the Soviets aren't afraid to loot and plunder. The life of the individual isn't worth all that much, and the "country" expects everyone to be ready to commit "revolutionary suicide" if the need arises.

The Soviets potentially have one of the best mass brainwashing programs in history as hundreds are brainwashed as suicide bombers, sleeper agents, and more. Europe is rocked daily by Soviet suicide bombers, infiltrators, and assassins to the point many Europeans are very trigger happy. Despite committing to absolute ideological orthodoxy certain factions within the Soviet Union engage in realpolitik, and pragmatism in order to see the country survive. The Soviets went dark this year, and all trade mission attempts either by legitimate or black market have all reported nothing coming out of Moscow. The invincible war machine the Soviets crafted to wage war on all fronts has seemingly stopped without any reason to do so.

-Anglo-French Union (Founded 1940)
(important since founding)
Image

Founded in the Second World War its existence continues just as it began in a state of war. It exists not as a solid union, but more in the loosely defined sense of union given several things have to be worked out. The union contains two capitals in the form of London and Paris, but due to chemical bombings, and air raids the French have elected to move their administration to Algiers. The currencies of the Pound and Franc are still in effect, but due to the war, and the need for centralization a committee is debating on the matter of one country. The Unions citizens enjoy citizenship in both the UK, and France as well as other privileges, but grow increasingly paranoid due to a battery of issues.

The Soviets are the primary external enemy have overwhelming Anglo-French, and Italian positions in Austria, and Germany as well as starving Berlin into submission. Much of Northern France is in ruins or a poisonous wasteland, and Paris has only a portion of its population left with most fleeing to the south except the military trying to maintain the front as the Soviets charge in day after day. The British have taken to selling Africans in their colonies through a company known as "Stockton Union" earning them millions, and enough for the war effort to stay afloat despite protests of the French. Project Ironside has brought over dozens of high ranking German scientists in order to help construct rockets that can strike deep into the heart of the Soviet Union, and start a counteroffensive in the war.

The war with the Soviets forced them to give up their Carribean possessions rather than see a full-on revolution, but things have only gotten darker recently. Now no one can get any word out of Paris, and the no mans land between northern France, and Soviet-occupied Germany is simply abandoned. The British can get no word out of their Indian possessions while Indochina is overrun by horrifying monsters. Reports are coming through that the Japanese are advancing on the unions possessions in Oceania, and Singapore, but they could be rumors.

The war has also seen another symptom in the form of empire death. Both main countries of the union have given up their Caribbean possessions to the Columbians rather than see them fall into revolution.

-The Tokugawa Shogunate (founded 1600)
(Important since 1870s)
Image

Though known by many of the less informed simply as the "Shogunate" its officially referred to in the media as the Tokugawa Shogunate. Due to the American Civil War the British, and French gained far greater influence, and due in part to the anti-western stance of the imperial faction they chose to invest heavily in the Shogun. The Boshin war ultimately ended in favor of the Shogunate Forces who continued modernization of the system in place in Japan. Their involvement in wars with China saw them gain significant concession cities, and the Russo-Japanese War resulted in the Tsar witnessing the loss of coastal Siberia to the Shogunate.

In 1921 a hardliner faction took over the house of Tokugawa and installed their preferred candidate for Shogun. The home islands of Japan became open to foreigners only through treaty ports, and the Shogunate gladly continued to modernize its military for conquest, and resources. Since then only diplomatic agents have been allowed in the parts of Japan that aren't treaty ports, and they describe it as a land of contrasts, and intrigue. Vast financial cliques ruthlessly exploit conquered territory for monetary gain while using the system of restriction to their advantage to fund criminal empires, and get goods from the west they want. The state has taken to maintaining the shrines and enforcing a sort of imperial cult upon the populace that seeks to reinforce the value of the community over the individual.

One foreigner commented on the use of Buddhism to support a warrior monk lifestyle, and the encouragement to "abandon oneself" through "righteous cause" rather than the vanity of "peoples revolution" as supported by the Soviets. Many Americans neither cared for nor wanted to know about the Shogunate in particular, but after the assassination of a trade mission in the Pacific Northwestern States the shogunate came knocking. Many agree now that the assassination was probably the work of Soviet sleeper agents, but the war continues regardless, and it has gotten coverage for the sheer brutality. The beautiful coasts, cities, and countryside of the Pacific Northwest were a ruined network of trenches covered in bodies, muck, rats, and diseases. People during the last days of the war took to wearing masks outside due to constant bombardment by Japanese artillery containing chemical weapons.

With the peace agreement the Pacific Northwestern States was abolished and divided up with Columbia getting Oregon, the Shogunate getting Washington, and the Great Plains Federation getting Idaho. The Japanese adventures in coastal Siberia have gone eerily unopposed lending credence to the theory of a Soviet collapse. Any thought of an imperial coup against the Shogun is a thing of an old past, but with the world collapsing, and the shogunate expanding they seem unstoppable.
• The Rest of the World
-The District of Columbia (Neutral Zone)
(Founded 1935)
Image
The Neutral Zone had its origins as a result of the Second Treaty of Gettysburg (1897) serving essentially as a U.S outpost within the middle of Columbian territory. After the fall of the U.S, the city had a choice to make, and chose a referendum with the majority choosing to stay outside of the empire, and forming their own if very small country. In 1935 the District of Columbia was born and is known to many as the Washington D.C Neutral Zone. A reference harkening back to the days it served as an island of neutrality in a sea of hostility. D.C would become home to many banks, and criminal organizations seeking a back route to hide their funding, and ultimately skirt past international laws.

What seems like years ago the city became flush with Swiss gold (which was really Reich gold) after Switzerland fell to the Soviets. D.C's status as world bank central is somewhat in doubt considering the collapse of the world today. D.C welcomes anyone exile or not so long as they have money.

- Free States of America
(Founded 1934)
Image
In the end, when the most loyal of the U.S left after calls to reestablish a civilian government in Colorado failed all that was left were these few states. Mutilated by the last, and worst treaty with Columbia which it had imposed upon the U.S in hopes war wouldn't happen again, and apparently, the Columbians got their wish. The flag of broken liberty is somehow fitting given the state the supposedly "Free States" are in. The military is too busy gunning down its own citizens to notice the ever-increasing number of ghoul hordes ravaging their farmlands, but things weren't always this way. If anything the start of the FSA was a hopeful one for a much better world.

The Democratic Period (1934-1942)

The FSA during the democratic period though only eight short years was relatively reconciliationist toward its southern neighbor, and the newly made nations in North America. There were signs that the depression which had ruined the U.S was finally recovering with the democratic government of the FSA taking serious measures to halt the decline and put its population back to work. Of course, it apparently wasn't to last as long as people would have hoped.

The Business War (1935-1937)

What initially had been a decent election turned sour as implications of rigging led to demands for recounts, and even supporters brawling in the streets. The war gets its name in part due to the fact it is believed that business interests played a part in exacerbating the violence as a way to gain political influence. No one thought it would descend into violence, and a quasi-war as militias fought in the street, and the government was in a quagmire. Eventually, military forces backed by Henry Ford seized power and quashed the militias violently in a show of power ending the war in the "business coup" (April 8th, 1937).

The Ford Administration (April 9th, 1937-April 7th, 1947)

Until his death Henry Ford thanks to the backing with the military introduced perhaps one of the most stable if not free eras within the FSA. Ford ran the country like he did his business empire, and is still called "Father Ford" affectionally by many of his supporters due to the vast social, and economic reforms he instituted. Several trade missions to Columbia were launched, and FSA embassies expanded heavily due to him.

The Transition Government (1947-Today)

The FSA never really became stable after Ford's death even when the election of '50 was held, and populist Capone won the day. His business smarts through connections with the mob didn't exactly solidify the government's reputation. The fifties were difficult for the FSA as militias, and ghoul hordes ravaged their countryside. The Columbians were content to handle any ghouls that crossed into their borders from the FSA, but lately, the FSA is slowly collapsing in on itself. The military seems to be in control for the moment, but it won't take much to cause the country to collapse especially if Chicago falls

- Great Plains Federation
(Founded 1933)
Image

The Great Plains Federation formed in part when the collapsing civil administration of the U.S refused to locate to Cheyenne instead opting to dissolve "peacefully" according to the people's will. From Cheyenne, the loyalists have for the most part kept in line with the old U.S constitution, but follow an ideology which proclaims a "loyalty to the heartland". The country had hard times dealing with a dust bowl that ravaged its farmlands as well as corruption, and political oligarchy, but lately things have gotten better for the federation.

The Oligarchy (1933-1937)

Called the Oligarchic era it was a conglomerate of wealthy farmers, railroad owners, and industrial robber barons who ran the federation to maximize their profits, and had candidates in office to ensure they got what they wanted to be done. During the Oligarchic era the country was run by the first executive committee of the states before dissolving in a bloodless coup.

Party of National Transition (1937-1940)

The PNT launched a bloodless coup in the early days of May 1937 and established the second executive committee. From there they set about working to aid farmers, giving relief to the poor, and helping the elderly. In the name of national interests, the rail lines were broken apart, and given to competent administrators to run, and ensure equal service to the federation. The former executive committee was allowed to live in peace as the PNT worked on fixing the nation.

"Queen" Alice Roosevelt (1940-today).

Called Queen affectionally by the citizens of the federation she is the eldest daughter of General Theodore Roosevelt the war hero of the War of 1912. The General died sometime after the war, but many speculate that had he run for president he could have potentially pulled the union out of the decade-long depression, and collapse. When the PNT saw their work was complete they called for elections in 1940 and deemed a President as their successor. Alice out of her father's ranch in the Dakotas ran as President, and got the election, and has won every election since the office was founded. Some speculate that Alice may continue to run for as long as she lives, but this may cause some problems once other candidates run, and "true democracy" is expected.

Any hopes for "true democracy" lately are forlorn hopes even with the acquisition of Idaho back in 1953 the country has gone downhill as ghoul hordes, and eldritch abominations ravage every corner. Currently, the country is holding better than the Free States at least.

- Deseret
(Founded 1932)
Image
Deseret was founded in 1932 with a relatively easy transition due in part to the Presidency of the LDS Church, and the current Governor of Utah cooperating while a transitional government was formed.

The Nevada Inclusion Act (1933)

The Governor of Nevada rather than join the slave-based Columbia decided to throw his lot in with the Mormons and signed a treaty with the newly independent Deseret.

The Nevada Exclusion Treaty (1934)

Taxes on liquor and property were eased up as Nevada landowners, and interests didn't want Mormon style taxes on them. Gambling would be allowed within Nevada but would be forbidden within Deseret proper (Utah).

Second Nauvoo Legion (1937)
Through a series of border wars with the Great Plains Federation and The Pacific Northwestern States the second legion was formed. Veterans of these various proxy conflicts saw fit to maintain border security with their neighbors, and train new generations of people in Deseret to be able to defend themselves.

Nevada Secessionist Movement (1947-Present)
Primarily due to conflicts of culture many in Nevada feel as if the union with Deseret does not, in fact, represent their bests interests.

A) Autonomists simply want a reunification of the various states carved out of Nevada, their own currency, and their own entity within Deseret.

B) Soft Secessionists want more than autonomy, and for a transitional republic of Nevada to be formed through diplomatic means, and for Deseret to become a confederation instead of a theocratic style republic.

C) Moderate Secessionists are willing to engage in war for independence, but would rather choose diplomatic means. They want complete independence through a fast process so Nevada can be whole again.

D) Hard Secessionists want independence now, and they want it fast with little care for how it gets done. They are even willing to compromise sovereignty with the Columbians in order to achieve this goal.

Presidency of Herber J. Grant (1932-1945)

Formerly president of the LDS Church alone he found himself in a position of secular power that surprised him. Most upon the secession of New England simply thought the military would crush them, restore order, and a candidate would be elected to restore general prosperity. Instead none of the above happened, and the union collapsed. Now the first president of Deseret found himself elected over a nation that for all intents, and purposes didn't want to exist. Instead, it chose to secede when it saw that no one officially even bothered to respond to further secession attempts.

Grant continued to fund the expansion of the church outside of Deseret's borders and even reconciled with more fundamentalist members over the matter of plural marriage. While this was not seen as a retraction it did, in fact, encourage of a number of Mormons to engage in the practice without fear of censure. In response to witnessing the sheer abject poverty brought about by the Great Depression of '21 Grant saw fit to establish several work-based welfare programs to ensure no one starved again. Grant also saw fit to tighten restrictions on coffee, tea, liquor, beer, and cigarettes within the former state of Utah (now several states).

Of course, the former state of Nevada (now multiple states) having a large population of non-Mormons objected to this type of law especially when it came to targeting gambling which helped grow the area's economy. This didn't stop Mormon majority areas of former Utah from enacting those prohibitions creating a nation of oddities.

Presidency of George Albert Smith (1945-1951)

In honor of the passing of the previous president George Smith chose to resurrect the council of fifty giving it the important in secular affairs and the affairs it handled for the coming world of the kingdom of God. President Smith focused on returning apostates to the service of the church and reconciling any issues to be found which caused their split in the first place.

Presidency of David O. McKay (1951-Present)
Initially, he focused on softening relations with Columbia, and the Great Plains while working to combat Soviet Infiltration and Nevadan secession. He reluctantly accepted help from an organization known as the Hierarchy after the disappearance of Ms. Chloe Belton before the legendary battle of Laggards Burrow. The Nevadan War (1958-today) has gone on a permanent standstill with the appearance of ever-increasing ghoul hordes, and eldritch abominations.

-Dominion of New England
(Founded 1930)
Image
The Dominion of New England was the first in the "separation crisis" which corresponded ultimately with the end of the Union itself. The Dominion seceded in 1930, and due in part to the lackluster response encouraged other nations to secede as well with the union collapsing in just a few short years. The Dominion expected a military response, but outside of a few national guards got no such response at all. The various delegates met in Hartford assigning it as the capital of the Dominion, and also signing the "Articles of the Second Convention". The Union looked on stunned as no one could energize an efficient response, and the Columbians established an embassy with them.

The Grand Admiral (1930-1938)
The Dominion needed strong leadership, and the former secretary of the Navy proved to be just that. A surprise candidate he won the ballot and was elected as Chancellor of the Dominion. Charles France Adams the 3rd took the first chance he got and established diplomatic relations with the Columbians. He earned the nickname "The Grand Admiral" in part due to his insistence on continuing the strong naval tradition of New England. Under his purview, the merchant navy formed and spread the trade New England had to offer all over the world especially with the Columbians.

Chancellor Dewey (1938-1946)
Chancellor Dewey came in during the crime wave of '38 and responded by militarizing police forces to handle the gangs. Of course, due to the gang's influence coming out of the new "Free States of America" Dewey could only do so much. That said his administration was able to cut down gang activity by 90%. Healthcare reform and social security are two of the biggest things that serve as the legacy of Chancellor Dewey as well as his efforts to ease racial relations. The "Great Migration" of slaves trying to flee North and the collapse of the U.S left a diaspora community in New England, and elsewhere.

They were used primarily as labor with a stateless identity until Dewey began a program of naturalization for stateless Africans.

Chancellor Joseph Kennedy (1946-Present)
With Dewey leaving officer Joseph Kennedy took on reconciliation policies when it came to dealing with the criminal elements. His critics argued this was sensible due to his supposed bootlegging connections to the Free States. For a time the global war between the Anglo-French and the Soviets helped boom the economy back to pre-depression levels, but New England was ravaged in the 1950s by an occult war forcing Kennedy to declare martial law. Any hopes of elections were dashed upon the events of the "third rising", and lately the whole dominion seems to be seething with occultic activity especially in Massachusetts.

Pacific Northwestern States
(Founded 1932, Ended 1953)
Founded in 1932 the three states of the Pacific Northwest chose to go it alone rather than accept an offer of invitation from Canada. An offer which many look back on regrettably since it would have saved them from the horrors of what was to come in later years.

Presidency of Julius Meier (1932-1936)

The 20th Governor of Oregon became the first president through an emergency election following the areas secession. His primary accomplishments were the division of the three states into various new states as well as a federal police force. Commissions were founded to deal with out of control liquor issues, unemployment, and ailing agriculture.

Presidency of Charles Ben Ross (1936-1944)

Formerly, governor of Idaho, he continued reforms for farmers and helped fill the government's coffers through various sales taxes. An Idahoan democrat many of his pet projects centered on his former home state, but ultimately as president he had to do what was best for the nation more than anything else. Constant border wars with Deseret were the primary issue of his day, and since he left office he has been an avid member for the secession of Nevada from Deseret.

Presidency of Monrad Wallgren (1944-1947)

One of the shortest presidential term servers ever in the pacific northwest he was a major player for the political scene in what used to be the state of Washington. Known for solving many of his problems by gaming, and betting he made one bad bet, and it drew the nation into outright hell. After the mass murder of a trade mission from the Shogunate, and the disasterous war to follow he abdicated power to the military so they could handle the solution.

The Military Committee (1947-Present)

Upon realizing the horrible quality of the military following the devastating defeat in Seattle, and the continuous defeats along the coast the military command peacefully took power, and relocated the capital to Boise for the "time being". This has allowed them to conduct the war effort into the perfect stalemate since no side wants to budge and admit weakness. It isn't helped that the Great Plains Federation, and Columbia both eye tearing apart the Pacific Northwest for further territorial gains.

Peace of '53
1) Washington goes to the Shogunate while Oregon peacefully transfers to Columbia, and Idaho to the Great Plains Federation.

-The Grand Commonwealth
(Founded 1946)
Image
Founded in 1946 as part of a grand strategy to counter Soviet aggression following Stalin's death, and the takeover of the "ideology" the Grand Commonwealth exists as a paradox. The Grand Commonwealth isn't so much a country as it is a confederation, and military jurisdiction put in place over several existing countries. The Confederation of Canada, Newfoundland, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Southern Rhodesia, Northern Rhodesia, South West Africa, The Irish Free State, Grand Raj of India, and Ceylon are current members of the Grand Commonwealth. The citizens of the commonwealth are at a crossroads since the Commonwealth is made up of British territorial dominions, and hasn't yet accepted French colonial possessions as members. Regardless individual citizens enjoy both anglo-french citizenships as well as universal commonwealth citizen with respect to their individual country.

Back in the 1950s, it served as an ideological bulwark against the Soviets especially when Greece and Turkey fell. Civil administration was running smoothly from Canada, and the Commonwealth was on its way to becoming an actual nation with centralizing laws until 1962. The British had to firebomb India in order to keep it under control, and now India is completely black with no one able to make contact with it. The Oceanic possessions are reportedly under threat by the Shogunate, and no one can seem to know why.

-Federación del Río de la Plata
(Founded 1926)
Image

Director Carlés Manuel (1926-1946)
In 1926 the president of the Argentinian Patriotic League Manuel Carlés with backing from the military was eased into power through a coup after a disasterous civil war rocked the country, and Soviet-inspired revolutionaries failed to assume power. After retreating to the hills a guerilla war continued until the "Director" was able to crush the resistance later that year, and proclaimed an end to the rebellion. A new government and a new country were proclaimed following Uruguay's referendum to join. This action was inspired in part by a pro-Brazilian junta finally falling, and the country not wanting to risk invasion. Much of the 1920s was spent engaging in a border war with Paraguay that resulting in them joining the federation to avoid humiliating terms of an alternative peace treaty.

Right wingers in Chile also petitioned to join the federation by 1937 thus completing the territorial expansion of Manuel's administration. The latter years were spent solidifying the military's control, and reforming it in order to handle a war with the Brazilian empire.

The Second Directorate (1946-Present)

Tensions with Brazil ultimately resorted in a fruitless border war that consumed much of the fifties and sapped the federation of much of its military might. Currently, they are safe from the global apocalypse overflowing with refugees from all corners of the earth, but it is unknown how long that will last.

The Empire of Brazil
(Founded 1822)
The history of the empire is much different from our world in the fact that the military clique which attempted to coup the empire failed, and ultimately were arrested by imperial supporters. The Emperor weary of both power and his age chose to abdicate leading to his daughter becoming Empress of Brazil.

Empress Dona Isabel the 1st (1889-1921)
The Empress spent much of her reign fighting the cliques, and corruption within the military that had encouraged the very idea of rebellion in the first place. Though slavery in Brazil ended she accepted the fact that one of Brazil's closest allies still considered the use of slavery integral to their economy, and decided to continue diplomatic ties with them. She would grow increasingly weary with the situation in Argentina especially due to communist rebellions erupting in the wake of the Bolsheviks. They all failed, but put the empress on edge, to say the least.

Emperor Dom Pedro III (1921-Present)

Witnessed the collapse of the U.S economy with morbid interest as he took up the throne. The challenges of Dom Pedro the third's reign have been watching with weary eyes the full-blown militancy of Argentina explode in proper fashion and this new "federation of the river plate" choosing to engage Brazilian troops in various border skirmishes. Dom Pedro the third believes the world is on the edge of a fiery holocaust in part due to the "third rising", and the reports of half of the human species have died in under a month. The Empire prepares for war from all corners of the empire to the heartland, and to the territories of Peru, and Bolivia (which were gained with the collapse of the second confederation).

-Benelux Federation
(Founded 1945)
Image
Founded mainly as a defensive federation against Soviet aggression the Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg all maintain their distinct internal affairs while keeping an eye on the Soviets peering at them across from Germany. They also have to deal with the struggles of colonial independence movements as well. Lately they have gone silent, and no one can get any reports back from them conclusively on what happened.

-Iberian Alliance
(Mainstream Society)
Image
Founded after the revolution of '35 in which pan-Iberian militias took power, and overthrew perspective governments the Iberian Alliance is a deeply centralized federation with its capital in Santarem (Portugal). For all intents and purposes the Alliance is perhaps one of the most liberal governments in existence in Europe with several autonomous regions existing for minority groups. Back in the day, most were impressed the Soviet hordes hadn't overrun it. The alliance has finally integrated their former colonies in time to watch the world burn bright.

-Italian Confederation
(Founded 1945)
Image
The Italian Confederation is a neutral "state" if one can call it that that makes up the majority of what used to be known as the Kingdom of Italy following its dissolving after WW2. The government has barely any power, and though republican in the structure is more similar to an unstable oligarchy with all major powers eying the moment it will fall apart. On the regional level, the confederation is far more stable and worth investing in that the idea of the confederation at large.

-The Levantine States
(Founded 1943)
Image

The Levantine States is a federation built on the "ideals" of a belief set known as Canaanism which espouses a grand Hebrew identity including Arabs and based in Italian fascism rather than the idea of a Jewish State. Canaanism started as an intellectual, and cultural movement taking control of the mandate of Palestine in 1943 through a coup, and ultimately revolt against the British. It is a partially recognized state still in rebellion against the British but has recognization from other major powers to throw off a full-scale invasion attempt for now. Canaanism rejects the Jewish identity as a religious rather than a national one. Canaanism celebrates the variety of native cultures of the fertile crescent rather than an imported identity from the Jewish diaspora.

Literature written seeks to continue the enforcement of a difference between Hebrew identity, and Judaism especially celebrating nationalist mythos like many regimes the world over. They work to promote proper mythos over "Jewish versions", and also work to secularize the language. The Levantine States has its capital in Jerusalem, but thanks to the spread of the rebellion have absorbed Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, and portions of the former state of Iraq. Lately, they aren't having great difficulty dispatching the ghouls, but the eldritch abominations have caused entire areas to be abandoned wholesale.

-The Imperial State of Iran
(Founded 1925)
Image
Reza Shah Pahlavi (1925-1944)

Coming into power through a coup he began a series of rampant modernization programs to assert Iranian independence and even defeated a Soviet invasion into Iranian territory. In contrast to the Caliphate which he considers extremely backward, the Shah believed westernization under a guiding hand, of course, would be better for everyone in the long run rather than a return to the misguided traditionalism of the extreme variety.

Mohammad Reza Pahlavi (1944-Present)

Coming into power in a tense time the collapse of Iraq provided a unique opportunity for territorial expansion for the state, and the new Shah took it. Reza came into power expecting a war with both the Caliphate, and the Soviets, but one of those problems is no longer an issue. Now the Shah seeks to deal with the local chapters of the order of death, and prevent the ever-increasing end from swallowing his nation.

-The Caliphate
(Founded 1936)
Image

The Caliphate as most people sparingly know it is a radical Wahhabist state intent on enforcing an extremely puritanical form of orthodox Islam, and its current rulers took power from the House of Saud who briefly ruled over what was once Saudi Arabia from 1932 to 1936. Currently ruled by Muhammad ibn Ibrahim Al ash-Sheikh they control a family who descends directly from the Wahhabist founder and has begun a series of expansions into the former state of Iraq to consolidate territory, and their message. The Caliphate is a mystery to the world in part because of its strict controls upon its citizens, but also because it isn't a major power most people bother to care about.

The Caliphate may use the current global chaos to their advantage, but some speculate it won't get them that far.

Name: Alister Halleck
Age: 52
Occupation: Purveyor of a small store which sells clockwork curiosities
Appearance:Mr Halleck is a tall man of 6,7, he has a rather large rounded head with an equally large beard and moustache too match, his hair is a dark brown however various streaks of grey are beginning to infest the outskirts of his hair, his eyes are of an equal shade of brown to that of his hair, the eyes in particular seem to exude an aura of age and cynicism, in between said eyes is a prominent nose with a large ridge an unfortunate marker of Halleck heritage. Mr Halleck has a rather average weight of 70 kg with a good deal of that being brawn, Mr Halleck's posture is one that exudes strict discipline and a quite aura of dignity. One of the more curious aspects of Halleck's body is his clockwork arm, a fine instrument constructed out of iron, each of it's cogs had been cleaned and adjusted daily by Halleck, the one downside to the arm is that it emits a rather loud and constant ticking noise. (Include height/weight. Be descriptive if you have no picture.)
Nationality: British
Belongings:
- a British passport
- a wallet containing 4,000 Columbian dollars
- a key to a home in Richmond, England
- Two brown leather suitcases, one containing a large amount of clothes and toiletries the other containing a number of tools and instruments to be used on the maintenance of his arm
- a copy of the bible
- A large collection of various clockwork clocks and trinkets
- deeds to a small shop in Richmond, England
(Important items that they own.)

Strengths, and Skills: Alister has a particularly cynical eye which is used to picking up the flaws in a person's public façade, the man also has an excellent sense of diligence which means that Allister will not consider a job done until said job had been done perfectly and Alister never leaves a job undone. He is also a fair aim which comes from his days hunting in the English countryside and his unfortunate experiences in the Anglo-Soviet war . Finally Alister has an immense understanding of all things clockwork, owning a vast array of tools and instruments for the maintenance of his clockwork possessions.
Weaknesses: Alister's cynicism while being useful in some circumstances can often lead to him being overly distrustful of other Humans and so when it comes to diplomatic solutions Alister is not the best man to come too, this is not aided in any way by the fact that Alister can often be overly prideful and arrogant and will often butt horns with anyone he questions his judgement.

Personality: Alister's a fiery soul who has an intense desire to be left to his own devices, he would rather be left with his clockwork trinkets then too interact with his fellow Human beings however he will occasionally partake in social activities on Sundays when he will go out to pray at the local cathedral, when he's selling one of his wares or when he wants to discuss the intricacies of clockwork technologies. Alister's experience on the European front has driven him to an immensely cynical view of Mankind yet somehow he was still able to hang onto his faith in both God and the Catholic church, yet his patriotism and acceptance of the Anglo-French union's morally questionable deeds has almost faded completely. Alister is also an extreme perfectionist, who will spend hours on end ensuring that all his possessions are perfectly ordered. Finally Alister does have an immense obsession with clockwork machinery, he will attempt to collect any clockwork curios wherever possible and will study them in depth until it ceases to interest him after which he will sell it. Since the events of Laggards Burrow and Alister being unable to escape America he has become acutely homesick and whenever the opportunity to return home to Richmond presents itself Alister will almost certainly take it
Likes: Alister is a man who would never shun a good drink while having a good talk about the few subjects that Alister is willing to talk about such as technological progress, theology, local politics, the latest literature and of course the man will go on and on when discussing clockwork technologies, it's intricacies and it's immense benefits. He has also taken up a hobby of boxing in an effort to stave off the more detrimental effects of age.
Dislikes: Alister has an intense dislike for anything to do with Anglo-Soviet, if someone attempts to bring up that subject with him, he's most likely to quickly swig his drink fork over his dollars to the bartender and leave the building. This dislike of the Anglo-Soviet war extends to both factions partaking in the conflict; he believes that the Soviets are more akin to daemons than fellow Human beings and that if their regime were to achieve victory it would be the end of all things good and decent all the while Alister has a strong belief that the Anglo-French union has betrayed the great British ideals that forged an empire on which the sun would never set, Alister even goes so far to believe that the king is in fact an imposter who had replaced the true king back in the year 1946.
Goals: Go home and pick up as many clockwork trinkets as possible along the way
Fears: Alister has an innate fear of all things that cannot be explained by modern science or traditional Christian theology, these inexplicable anomalies provide with him with a constant reminder that the world is slowly breaking down into madness. He is also incredibly fearful of the undead, if he ever happens to encounter a ghoul he's more likely to freeze and then run than he is to stand and fight. Finally Alister is terrified by the idea that his own body can be perverted through mutations and the occult he believes that to be mutated would be to loose ones very essence. With the recent news coming in from Europe, Alister is also growing increasingly worried about what may soon happen to his homeland.

Biography:Alister was born to a well-to-do family in Richmond, England in the year 1910. Richmond was a fine suburban town for any growing youth. From an early age Alister was able to indulge in the pleasures of upper class life, anything he desired would be provided for him upon a silver platter by two parents who didn't particularly cared what he did as long as it didn't ruin their public appearance, this meant that his younger life was filled with a decadent mix of drink, girls, theatre and hunting -hunting had been a proud tradition of the Halleck family - all this meant that Alister paid only lip service to his Christian faith, going to church on every Sunday (as his parents commanded him) yet when it actually came to upholding the virtues of the Christian faith Alister wasn't to bothered.

This life of luxury and pleasure continued into Alister's twenties where Alister was provided with a hefty allowance from his parents and he was provided with his own luxury apartment in London, he was able to enjoy the fantastic life of the city while still pursuing his various studies. Unfortunately for Alister the thirties rolled round and the Anglo-Soviet war began, his life of luxuries and pleasure was swept and from under him as he was conscripted into the British expeditionary force and was forced to bear the gruelling experience of military service. He was shipped out with majority of Britain's younger generation to the east of Germany to defend against the great Soviet onslaught, initially British, French and German forces had the upper hand and despite the grim conditions Alister's patriotism and optimism was able to carry him through, it also seemed as if Alister was paying a greater adherence to his faith, often praying in the evenings so that the lord could see him through to the next day.

Yet it appeared as if God had a cruel sense of humour for as European forces advanced further and further into Russia, the dead began piling up further and further, the dead who would promptly rise up into massive hordes that stalked the battlefield and would occasionally attack the vast trenches that sprawled across the eastern front, the greatest example of this was the massacre at Smolensk where one of the greatest hordes in documented history swarmed Anglo-German forces stationed at Smolensk, the onslaught was short as the Anglo-German were caught off guard and were out of ammunition before even the first wave of the undead were finished. Practically the entirety of Anglo-German forces were wiped out, Alister was able to escape the massacre and limp back to Minsk with only his arm being lost.

At Minsk Alister was quickly sent to the infirmary to search for signs of Ghoulification, fortunately for him after a few days of quarantine Alister showed no sign of Ghoulification and so due to Alister couldn't really hold a gun with only one arm he was sent home with an honourable discharge. Upon arrival back in London, Alister had the misfortune of discovering that both his parents had been killed when a Soviet sleeper agent had activated a biological agent in Richmond, however looking on the brighter side this had left Alister with a substantial amount of wealth that had been left to him, using said wealth he was able to purchase a new clockwork arm for himself. For the next few months Alister had locked himself in almost complete isolation, however Alister did return to public life yet he was a much changed man, far more reserved, temperate and with an extremely curious obsession with clockwork. He began studying clockwork mechanics in depth, he would buy vast amounts of clockwork curios and finally he opened a shop that sold clockwork machines, the shop never made a profit yet Alister never truly wanted to sell any of his curios, the shop acted as a place to store his collection. Now Alister has recently been contacted by a wealthy Columbian in Mexico city who seems to have a rather interesting clockwork device that could perhaps interest Alister, Alister seeing an opportunity to acquire a new addition to his collection immediately jumped on the next zeppelin to Columbian Mexico, unfortunately he had been stopped at a small isolated town known as Laggards Burrow.

At first Alister though Laggards Burrow to be a rather charming if not odd town, he booked a room in a hotel and began to frequent an institution known as Papa Jacks Drinkery and the Laggards burrow's boxing society. As the days went on Alister began to notice more and more unusual things going on in Laggards Burrow particularly the activities of an unusual order lead by the former actress Jessica Dunnand and particularly odd religious organisation known as the church of the first fruit, in fact as he spent more and more time in Laggards Burrow he noticed how each of the factions seemed to be at least somewhat odd in their nature. As Alister began to notice these peculiarities things began to break down in Laggards Burrow, the dead roamed the streets, open fighting broke out upon the streets between the factions and rumours of some kind of all powerful being rising to destroy the world. As any sane Human Alister quickly made for the next train out of that accursed town. the train may not have been heading to Mexico City but at least it was leaving Laggards Burrow which was all Alister cared about.

The train leaving Laggards Burrow however was certainly not bound for better fortune then that small town for halfway through the train's journey it was assaulted by a huge legion of the undead. Most of the passengers were killed or turned yet fortunately Halleck was able to escape thanks to his revolver and the strength of his clockwork arm. So with only his two briefcases and the cloths of his back he set out off into the Columbian wilds attempting to find a way back to his home in Richmond. For the most part he stuck with large travelling bands, people whose homes had been destroyed by the various forces of the apocalypse. His time in these bands honed both his marksmanship skills (ghouls were a rather common occurrence) and his capacity to talk with others. After a few years of wandering, desperately attempting to find a way back to London, Alister came across what may be his salvation: the city of Oklahoma. Halleck believed that within the city he would be able to get to a port via railway or Zeppelin, he was much mistaken as the entire Columbian empire seemed to be on lockdown and Alister was once again trapped. He used his remaining funds to rent out a small apartment where he spends his time dreaming of a way to get back home to Richmond

RP EXAMPLE:
Along a slow river a rather small wooden boat was carrying Hans Fischer, a recently hired employee of the Chinese branch of the Opel corporation, who had been called to the capital of the AOG by Albert Muller, one of the major directors of the AOG. The boat eventually reached a small ramshackle wooden pier that was jutting into the river like a splinter. On this pier was a German man dressed in a full black suit despite the tropical temperature of the area around him. Hans was helped onto the pier by the Chinese rower who he had payed to bring him to this rather isolated part of the AOG and when he finally managed to clamber aboard the pier he began to wish he had come better dressed for the occasion for while the man in front of him was wearing an implacable black suit, where as he was wearing that of what you'd expect of a filthy syndicalist.

"I trust that you are Mr Fischer" was the German man's unexpectedly enthusiastic question for Hans.

"Yes I've just arrived from Guangzhaou, anyways i'm here to meet Albert Muller so could you please give me directions to the Board of director's office it would be much appreciated"

The German man then gave Hans a rather odd look and said "Ah they mustn't of told you, you see I am Mr Muller, It is common knowledge here in the AOG that I do like to meet my employees face to face, it gives a me a good understanding of their character."

Hans was at first taken aback by this new information, in Germany he had rarely got to meet the enigmatic figures who ran the companies that he had worked for nevertheless he was quickly able to regain his composure and ask his next question "Well shouldn't we be going to the board of director's office, after all I imagine the climate there is far more agreeable with us there than it here"

Mr Muller than gave Hans a cheery smile and said "Well you see I was thinking that we should take a stroll through Guilin, in order to show you the current state of things and why I brought you here in the first place."

As Mr Muller gave him a tour around the 'city' Hans began to notice what Mr Muller had meant when he said that he would be showing him why he should be here. The roads he was walking down were made of nothing more than dirt, the houses around him were ramshackle at best and looked as if one storm would quite simply cast them aside and the dejected people on the streets looked as if they had been recently mugged. Perhaps the only building within thee entire city that fell into the area that Hans would call acceptable for Human habitation which was the AOG board of director's headquarters. It was at times like this that Hans could see what the godless syndicalists were talking about.

Mr Muller then stopped them in the middle of a quite busy residential area and then produced a small folded piece of paper from his pockets and then said to Hans "I hope you can now see the reason why we need well educated Germans like yourself in order to bring the AOG up to German standards, well at least until our education initiatives begin to bear fruit, now take this."

He then handed that small piece of paper to Hans which upon closer inspection proved to be a plan which outlined the ways to begin improving the infrastructure of the AOG. It included the creation of multiple factories in the Guangzhaou area, the building of railroads between the six provinces that the AOG controlled, the improvement of multiple urban centres throughout the AOG, the ones that were to be focused on were Guilin, Guangzhaou, Changsha and Nanchang, finally it outlined the importation and employment of a great deal of German engineers. As Hans was looking through these papers Mr Muller decided to interrupt his reading " Believe me it took a great deal if work to get the board of directors to agree with me on this proposition, most of them only want China for it's abundant resources not for the possibility of having an extremely powerful industrial state under their control, anyways I would like you to be in charge of this project."

Hans was at first completely shocked by this statement, Mr Muller continued on speaking talking all about his housing and what his wage would be however he had failed to register what was being said due to his initial shock. He was finally knocked out of said shock when Mr Muller asked "So do you accept my proposal to you, I can assure you that both the Opel corporation and the entirety of China would be extremely grateful.."

"Yes of course I accept!" Was Hans's quite immediate reply. For a long time now he had wished to have a position of some kind of importance within the em;ire and now he finally did.

State of the AOG
The Southern Chinese industrial development plan which had just been approved by the board of directors was now proceeding ahead at full speed with massive amounts of funding pouring in from all corporations who were represented on the board of directors. Companies such as Mauser, Opel and Krupp were also making efforts to introduce new agricultural and industrial techniques to the AOG's economy. The population of the AOG were now also beginning to benefit from the wealth of their corporate masters as educational initiatives and multiple public works now were finally receiving some funding.

The head of state for the AOG, Alexander von Falkenhausen, was now pushing for the greater development of the AOG's military with recruitment and training of the Chinese population and the importation of German weapons. The AOG military was also now receiving it's first armoured tank division which was to positioned with the majority of the AOG military on the border of the Yunnan clique, which many expected to be the main target for the AOG's new expansionist doctrine.

Alas not all things were chugging along so smoothly within the AOG as the republican movement was quickly gaining vast amounts of popularity as the mass industrialisation of the AOG while leaving many people very wealthy was also leaving many people in poverty and out of poverty grew dissent and crime. In order to contain this huge threat the board of directors are soon to meet in order to decide weather or not some kind of secret police should be commissioned in order to keep German control within their small corner of China.
(If you don't have one then just create one for me so I can see how you are at this).

Good to see an older character come back, and thus be canon as well. You my friend are very much accepted.

Good to see an older character come back, and thus be canon as well. You my friend are very much accepted.

Thanks, will any of my character's actions in Laggards Burrow effect his relations with the factions?

Possibly since the events Laggards Burrow merely delayed the end of the world for a decade. So some factions like the Order of Death might be more than a little miffed, but ultimately they are more long-term "consequences be damned" kind of people. That said be prepared to be somewhat famous or infamous with certain factions.

In the grim, dark world of the 1962nd timeline, there is only street urchins.
Either a street urchin trying to make ends meet, or rehash a Buddhist Missionary from the Shogunate, spreading the Imperial Faith. Ten-Thousand Years for the Emperor!

Well in regards to Japan they have not only managed to use the apocalypse to their advantage but reportedly have also begun rapidly conquering at an untold pace. Basically, the fact half the human race living in 1962 died in less than a month did not deter them at all, and quite a few survivors are starting to see the wisdom of the eastern ways.

I would also like to think that Canada is either secretly holding the secrets to solving all problems in this current timeline, or is Free Real Estate for the Emprah, securing the Albertan Oil Sands and dominating mineral productions on the North American Continent. Perhaps Imperial Buddhism (which is just basically regular Buddhism, but with Japanese characteristics and Asian Syncreticism to the nth degree) would have been preached throughout the Northeastern U.S.

Mayhaps a mission would be established to help the refugees, and get the SPEHSS SAMURAI over here ASAP to clean house long enough to evacuate the civilians to a safer location. Assuming such a mission would have made it this far inland...

So I guess consider this an unofficial update on the matter of how the roleplay will start. We will basically start in the apartment complex as the city is dangerously overcrowded from refugees waiting for evacuation (you are one of them). The whole plan Columbia has in place is to basically create a bunch of barrier cities, and keep the orderly, and supplied so they can take hits from the horde, and other monstrosities. It's cruel, but effectively their version of the Redeker plan from World War Z. They are basically running last-minute tests in these areas to see if people are truly worthy to join the outposts (basically massive seed banks for humanity).

The city will, of course, be attacked within the first week as the military launches a defensive action, but will ultimately lose. The ghoul hordes and Lovecraftian abominations will run amok causing chaos, and only be slightly hampered by a military counteroffensive that will fail. After the military is pretty much knocked out of the action the city will collapse, and you will have to survive in it until the factions move in to continue their "great game". So the first part of this will be a bit of survival horror before settling down into something else akin to cosmic/religious horror fantasy.

Well, a mission for "aid" i.e "spying for future assets, and resources" would be most likely, but I doubt a mission with heavy support would make it to Oklahoma City. You might be able to get a character who is in Columbia with government sanction, but don't expect a lot of sanction, and help from the Shogunate by this point.

I mean the servants of the true end believe it is better for the universe to be destroyed by the void-maker (i.e the being that made the universe), and thus reset in order to prevent a potential fate worse than death being imposed on all of humanity. By default, all the death and destruction will not have happened since this universe no longer exists, and a new one has taken its place. They consider waking up in a new universe unaware of the old one a better fate than being a slave to twisted deities who serve a deity that may or may not be a walking nihilistic abyss. The order of death is unsure if the death they bring about will be the kind of death as humans understand or some horror from the primordial that has no concept of human emotion or morality. So understandably people are fucking horrified by that, and simply would rather deal with a do-over.

So if they can't be in charge of their own fate, these tendrilly looking beings beyond good or evil sure as hell won't be in charge of humanity either.

Kind of, and that is assuming they don't get gutted by other factions who are simply looking out for their own power (such as the Gray Seers).
