Jihad isn't religious mass murder, it's even all about war. So it doesn't really fit with what you want to talk about.

Well of course. After all, the raiding of temples is contrary to societal harmony and stability, hence why one would be thrown in jail upon attempting it.

Speaking of the Crusades...The Fourth Crusade (1204 AD) which ended with the Sack of Constantinople ended up bringing the Byzantine Empire to its knees. This was part of Western Christendom's plan to "bring the Orthodox into the fold"; what followed was the Frankokratia/Latinokratia, which subjected certain parts of Greece to Frankish or Latin rule. In certain cases this went on for centuries, even to the 18th and 19th centuries in certain cases! Sure, it wasn't the final death of the Byzantine Empire, as Constantinople was liberated by the Greeks in 1261 AD; but the Empire was permanently crippled, and this gave the Turks the opportunity to build up their power. The Rise of the Ottomans is directly linked to the Fourth Crusade and the subsequent Power Vacuum in Anatolia and the Balkans. Without the Crusaders; without Western meddling in the affairs of the Christian East , there would've been no Ottoman Empire.

Actually the 4th was not part of any grand Roman plan. Rather it was hinacked by the Venetians who turned the crusaders into mercenaries in its conflict with the ERE.

The attack on Constantinople was contrary to the Pope’s orders. Venice and many crusaders got excommunicated. Sure the Catholic Church was unfortunately more than willing to pick over the spoils after the ERE collapsed, but that never was the intent.

The other thing to note is the 4th crusaders were not some mighty army.
They were a small and poorly disciplined force.

Had the ERE had a decent leader and military at the time the could have easily defeated the pathetic bunch that was the 4th crusade.

Yes, but keep in mind that Hanafuridake was expressing the desire to personally raid other temples, i.e. an illegitimate usage of violent action. The Japanese government, by contrast, has just cause to utilize violence in order to prevent the summum malum ("greatest evil", that is to say "war of all against all") within its domain.

Which makes it all the more tragic...and as you yourself said, the Catholic Church had no problem sweeping in to take advantage of the chaos; after virtue-signalling of course how opposed they were to the events of 1204 AD. The Catholics came in after Constantinople was sacked and split the Imperial territories among themselves and set up their own micro-kingdoms along Western lines; bringing in Western Feudalism, and attempting to force the Greek Orthodox population to become Catholic. Not to mention the rapacious looting of holy sites, monasteries and churches; and the seizing of holy relics. Their actions over the decades and centuries speak volumes more than their verbal condemnations. Let's not pretend they were innocent angels. They were the main beneficiaries of Constantinople's Sacking.

Sure you can lay a lot of culpability for those events at the feet of the Byzantine Elites, but that's not an excuse for the excesses of the Latins and Crusaders in Greece, after that time. The Latinokratia/Frankokratia was so terrible that by the time the Ottomans were growing in power, in the 14th century, a lot of Greeks would say "Better the Turban of the Sultan, than the Tiara of the Pope". The logic being that the Sultan, cruel as he was, greedy as he was, blood-thirsty as he was, would at least allow the Greeks to keep their Orthodox Christian Religion (albeit in the humiliating status of Dhimmitude); whereas the Catholic Franks and Latins would not even allow the Greeks that.

Richard the Lionheart was pretty great; and Isaac Komnenos was oppressing his own subject in Cyprus, so Richard's liberation of Cyprus was a genuine good. But selling it to the Knights Templar, and later the Lusignans, wasn't so great. Richard essentially liberated the Island from one Tyrant and handed them over to another.

Frederick Barbarossa...well...I'm not such a fan of his. When the Byzantine Emperor Isaac II Komnenos (ruled: 1185 AD - 1195 AD, 1203 AD) refused to pay him tribute, as Frederick and his German Army were marching through the Balkans, the Holy Roman Emperor responded by sacking and pillaging his way through Thrace and Anatolia, crossing over into Asia at Gallipoli. He then marched through Seljuk territory and drowned (anticlimactically) in some river in Syria (God riddance!).
