Chairman Ghazi gave this speech after the execution. "Comrades, these traitors were protesting against our great communist government! The government that has fed you, supplied you with jobs, and kept the peace. The government that brought down the evil autocrat Andrew Harven who oppressed you! The people of Lakarta have been protected by the government! These traitors wished to topple our way of life, and replace it with the capitalistic and autocratic ways of the West! They were your enemies!

The incidents going on in Lakarta made it to the ears of the United Brotherhood. They paid it little mind. There were hundreds of tinpot regimes across the globe that wallowed in the mud and never amounted to anything greater than being the personal sandcastle of Great Leader and his cult of personality. This one looked like it would be little different. Three things changed their mind. The first was the amount of international attention this was getting. The second was the increasingly hardline stance that the incumbent government was taking in response to the former. Third were the resources presence in the nation that, when the first two facts were taken into account, might be easily attainable.

The combinations of the typical communist state's atheist, if not anti-theist, stance, existence in a region known for tribal conflict, hypocritical government, and gratuitous uses of force against the populace made it seem that this nation would be particularly vulnerable to the Brotherhood's influence and its virulent quasi-religion. Noddism. They dispatched agents to infiltrate the nation during the chaos of the blockades, protests, and mass arrests that followed it. Many of those they sent were expatriates or their families that fled during the toppling of the autocracy, and those same expats were enlisted to teach their spies the culture and customs of Lakarta to better blend in. To the best of their knowledge they were on a mission to free Lakarta from a brutal regime that exploited the people to suit its own ends. This was not entirely wrong. What was important was that they did not know exactly who was sending them, for knowledge was power in the world of spies. The reach of the Brotherhood was long and it's coffers wide. They acquired falsified credentials for all of them that would hold under most scrutiny, until they could directly obtain better ones in the field.

These agents remained mostly passive, observing events and only making connections with people they were confident were very unhappy with the regime. Their effects would be felt not very long afterwards, as they probed the government to see how they would react to true popular push back against their hardline policies. This headline would greet the nation some days later.

The choice to attack that mine was important, for it was one of the ones selected by the chairman's council to direct their counter-blockade corvée laborers to. They can take away from it that this was done in direct reaction to impressing thousands into what's widely considered one of the most hazardous and least-desired jobs around. Agents and contacts work to fan these flames, declaring that these three were martyrs of the true revolution that would rise up to free Lakarta from the grasp of their new tyrants. While the Brotherhood knew that the similar attack earlier this month linked to supposed operatives of the ex-Autocrat of Lakarta were unconnected to their own operations, the government did not have that certainty.

They sat back and waited to see the reaction, bidding time and making moves beneath the surface.
