Cause it sounded like you were going to sneak up on her, and while she's bathing, take pictures from a hiding place... you know? I mean, that sort of thing is generally frowned upon.

However, the people at that party, some of them might do it (it would not surprise me); if she were instructed to go to the lake

Though I doubt she would even go in the lake; she'll probably consider it too filthy (being obviously not the nature type)

TBQH, I find the whole thing hilarious. I'd laugh at myself in that scenario. Of course, I wouldn't miss the chance to stick it to her: "You want to get clean? Here's some water!" And hose her down with water. It'd be weird if a farm house didn't have a hose, although this is an IM hypothetical, so you never know :P

I used pronouns until the mods made using wrong pronouns warnable, so I use names instead; if you see malice there, that's entirely on you, and if pronouns are no longer warnable, I'll go back to using them

1.) Nobody in this scenario is from a rural background. You do not wear nice clothes when you're going to be interacting with animals, are out in the pastures, or around barns. You also wouldn't laugh at someone for getting their clothes messy and sweaty. It's bound to happen in a locale like this. I'm about as prissy as they come, and I wouldn't freak out if I got mud on my jeans or if someone else got mud on theirs. These are a bunch of city people. People from the country deliberately get themselves dirty half the time anyhow.

2.) I'd offer the poor girl a hosing down, a shower, and a change of clothes, preferably something cute yet practical, even if I didn't like her and thought she was obnoxiously rude. This is most every girl's worst nightmare come true, and it would be extremely cruel and hard-hearted of me or anyone else to leave her in that state. I'd even offer to help clean off and save what clothing and jewelry could be saved. You never know, I might make a new friend who has pretty great tastes.

3.) Forgiveness requires some degree of regret on the other party's part. If she was apologetic, then yes. If not, then no. I would argue, however, that I have an obligation to basic kindness, charity, and compassion here - even if no on else treats me with those virtues in this scenario.

In the country? No one. I would be embarrassed if I got puked on at a party or something, and I'd want to shower and change immediately. In this hypothetical though, I'd help her.

Stepping in mud up to my knee isn't humiliating and isn't worth taking pictures of. I don't know anyone who would find that funny or humiliating like Fictional ProtagTM finds it, our antagonist falling in mud is much worse since presumably she's covered.

The two incidents aren't really comparable in my opinion and I wouldn't feel too phased over stepping in mud and I would be confused as to why people are laughing about that.

I agree. The city-country divide is important. A lot of country people would think it’s no big deal but for many city people, mud is very very icky.

In the op, although your relatives own the farm the protag is from the city and only occasionally visits. The farm is picked for the party because it’s an unfamiliar/“interesting” setting.

God dammit I've already got enough short answer questions to do in college.
Most of the time I have no idea what the hell I'm doing or talking about.

”Many forms of government have been tried and will be tried in this world of sin and woe.
No one pretends that democracy is perfect or all wise. Indeed, it has been said that democracy is
the worst form of government, except for all the others that have been tried from time to time." -
Winston Churchill, 1947.

"Rifles, muskets, long-bows and hand-grenades are inherently democratic weapons. A complex weapon makes the strong stronger, while a simple weapon – so long as there is no answer to it – gives claws to the weak.” - George Orwell

Yes the clothes cost hundreds to perhaps thousands. You can bet she does not buy on discounts. Also, she's in psychological distress because the people will Remember this. There's no removing this episode from existence; its in the minds of everyone now.

...So how sociopathic do you need to be to not at least let her take a shower lmao

How sociopathic would anyone have to be to come to a stranger’s party, take pictures of him covered in filth in an attempt to humiliate them, have men cage him in just to take even more pictures, then have the audacity to demand a free shower in his own property without even apologizing? Seems like the bitch deserved it lol.

What would things have been like if every security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive? Or if during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand? The Organs would quickly have suffered a shortage of officers and transport and, notwithstanding all of Stalin's thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt!

Its not so much just the mud but the fact that

1. You got tricked into it
2. The person who tricked you into it is rubbing it in your face and making it all about your supposed lack of intelligence
3. Your friends' jeering responses, your standing amongst friends lowered
4. The fact that its being photographed
5. You being held against your will as more photos are taken and a huge spectacle is made of it
