Mexico, what do you actually know about Mexico.

Postby Rio Cana » Sun Sep 23, 2018 1:01 pm

Most foreign people have this idea that Mexico is a third world or at the very least a second world rate nation. Its all because of the drug wars, corruption and poverty. Those that have a more favorable view of Mexico tend to say that Cancun has the best beaches and all those Aztec and Mayan buildings. That things are cheap. And thats about it.

So NS, what do you actually know about Mexico. Compared to most NS non-Mexicans, I think know a little more about Mexico then most non-Mexicans. Knowing Spanish and being exposed in one way or another to Mexican culture and music has made it possible for me to get to know more about Mexico. But still I have much to get to know. Just found out that Mexico has a plan to send eight robots to the moon in 2019. A private US company from PA. will be launching the Mexican made robots to the moon. Seems the Mexicans are there first paying customers

Read this on that - http://www.mexico-it.net/mexico-sending ... nar-study/
In more detail - http://aviationweek.com/space/mexico-buys-ride-moon

For those that say that Mexico is a third world nation how can this be possible.

Just found out that Mexico has the second largest solar panel farm producing energy for over 1.3 million homes. How can a so called third world nation be more into this then then first world US.

All this and much more can be seen in this following video someone made on the Mega projects of Mexico and which if they actually do go ahead with them will turn Mexico into a major world contender.

Mexico is alright.I have some distant relatives who fled there after the Second World War. I think they have a fascinating national culture and a bunch of fascinating subcultures. I hope to visit someday.

What inspired you to make this thread? Did someone in another thread disparage Mexico?

I've been to Mexico a good number of times, since I live in a border state. Puerto Penasco is the touristy part I've seen, but I've also been to Nogales, Mexicali, and some smaller towns in and around Sonora, and it's a lovely place with lovely people. The biggest downside I've noticed traveling there is corrupt cops who I've had the misfortune of being arrested by, but otherwise, lovely country with warm people, awesome beer and food.

As an Australian who can't speak Spanish, I highly suspect there's a lot about Mexico I don't know.

Depressingly little.
"...I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Council-er or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can't agree with your methods of direct action;" who paternalistically feels he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by the myth of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait until a "more convenient season." -MLK Jr.

I know that it's a place I never intend to visit, despite my wife's insistence. Otherwise, I don't know a lot. They speak Spanish, have good food, drugs, and tequila, and have major corruption problems. They've had quite a revolutionary history, though I don't know specifics. I could list a few of their states if pressed. That's about it.

I actually rather like Mexican culture. It’s always been a fascinating blend of Spainish and Native cultures blending, topped with a rather new world version of Catholicism that I’ve found more interesting than the brand I grew up with

Everything I know about Mexico:
1. They speak Spanish.
2. California used to be part of it.
3. My friends are from there.
4. It's really close to here.
5. They have a better flag.

That's it. I'm sure Mexico is a great country, but I don't know much.

Hispanic country to the south of the US, has an actually pretty cool history, including having two empires, don't know much of the politics but what I do know I don't really agree with.
Most of the time I have no idea what the hell I'm doing or talking about.

I know that its crime infested and that its murder rate has been accelerating.

That's enough for me to want to stay away... at least until it gets annexed into the US.

Let's see, my grandmother and her sisters legally immigrated to the US from there around WW2. My great-grandfather fought in their revolution, supposedly under Pancho Villa. Lots of different native American cultures including one of the ones I know for sure I am partially descended from (the Otomi), are there.

Lots more about the history, economic status, etc.

Soon there will be no God or Mexico, only America and it's domain. Bow to the Founding Fathers!

For those that say that Mexico is a third world nation how can this be possible.

India has its own space program and launches satellites and space probes and stuff, and I don't think anyone disputes that it's a third-world country.

Heh that’s also what I know about the USA, it seems both North American countries south of Canada are really similar

I also know that Mexico is relatively well off economically ranking 11 in world PPP just short of UK and France and 15th in GDP thus better off then many other nations

The USA murder rate is not increasing, though, and we aren't crime infested.

You’re more likely to get raped or robbed in the US than Mexico but Mexico does have a much higher murder rate
