NSSCRA 7- Signup Thread

Postby Newmanistan » Sat Sep 22, 2018 5:32 am

It’s time for stock cars to get back to the track! NSSCRA (NationStates Stock Car Racing Association) is the premier stock car (NASCAR) competition on the forum.

For information on how NSSCRA is scorinated, click here.

All are welcome to signup. SIGN UP THREE DRIVERS, and note your preferred car number for them. However, as returning users will have the rights to the car numbers they used previously (car numbers is not “first come, first serve”), you may be asked to change their numbers, or have me assign another number at my choice.

Additionally, each participating nation will have at least* one race in their home country. So also include the name of your track, its city, and the track record for one lap at the track. Length of the season depends on the number of signups.

Nations that roleplayed during NSSCRA 6 are automatically allowed to bring back their three drivers (if they choose), they are entitled to three “charters” (spots in the field), regardless. This includes usage of the same car number they had in NSSCRA 6, regardless of whether someone else signs up for that number first.

Nations that signed up for NSSCRA 6 but did not roleplay will receive at least two of their “charters” back. Same rule about car number applies. They may or may not get their third entry in every race, and may be subject to having to “qualify” into the field.

Nations that are new may sign up three drivers as well. Each new nation should note one driver to receive their “national charter” for every race, they will make the field regardless. The other two will need to “qualify” into the field, pending on actual signup numbers. A first time nation can feel free to change their “national charter” around between drivers, at their discretion.

The “open charter” will return. This will be for a nation to potentially enter a fourth driver, or an additional driver. Interest in the open charter for an upcoming race should be provided in the RP immediately preceding the race desired, or by privately telegramming me. In the event I need to choose, first preference is to allow the open charter to a driver racing at their home track. After that, it comes down to number of times the nation has used the open charter, and the amount of RP they have provided.

About “charters”: Charter swapping between nations is possible, but is a topic to be explored once the season begins, and not to worry about during the signup process.

That was a long preface. An example signup should look like this:
#4- Kevin Hardwick
#18- Rowdy Candyman
#78- Martin Bass, Jr.

Track: My National Speedway
City: Somewhere, My Nation
Length: 1.5 miles
Record: 32.011 seconds (lap record, very important information)
Layout: Standard cookie cutter oval.

What is going to be different about NSSCRA 7?
– Nations that RP’d during NSSCRA 6 will have two races (unless they only want one)
– Only two races in Newmanistan (unless signup numbers are disappointing and more are needed).
– Qualifying will be held on one day, and the race the next.
– Races will be spread out, 2-3 times per week, depending on length of schedule.
– If a host nation wishes to scorinate their own race, they may. However, this will be dependent on the host’s actual experience level in scorination. (For example, a nation that has hosted things like the World Cup or the World Baseball Classic, or similar, can feel free to scorinate their own race. Newbiestan, that has no hosting experience, will not be).

NSSCRA is a work in progress competition, still. Any suggestions to improve the tournament, or anything in this post is greatly appreciated and will be discussed in the official discussion thread

Please signup now, signups will be open for two weeks. This allows ample time for signups, and gets a good portion of the World Cup/Cup of Harmony/World Baseball Classic out of the way. As I am also hosting the World Baseball Classic, the schedule may start out a little “light”.

#1 Hauptmann Wilhelm "Nicht-Bill" Kerman
#13 Oberst Eva "Schnellezeichnung" Kerman
#69 Oberfeldwebel Sofia "Boomer-Zoom" Kerman

Track: Kermania Fortress Run
City: Kermania Citadel (Public sector)
Track Lap Record: 00:55:00
Description: An irregular track built in the public sector of the subterranean citadel of Kermania. The track is nearly two miles, and features three straightaways and a mess of curves connecting them, forcing skillful driving. The track is well-lit, and extra supports to the ceiling of the cavern were built as added insurance against a collapse.

Track: Die Landschaftlich Schöne Strecke (The Scenic Route)
City: Friedlichesheim
Track Lap Record: 00:45:76
Description: Basically a dirt track out in the country that was converted into a racing course several years ago. It is a road course, with plenty of curves and few straightaways. The track is, of course, well lit, and dampened just enough to greatly reduce dust levels.

Drivers:

#44 Kai Qiang (male, 20-something, grew up farming, but now runs a taxi company and races professionally)
#88 Liangmei Li (female, 20-something, works as a model when she's not racing)
#90 Tsering Chu (female, 19, college student at one of the Empire's most reputable schools for the deaf)

Tracks:

Li River Speedway, Guilin, Guangxi Territory
Lap record: 00:46:29
Length: a little over 3 km
Description: irregular with boxier than usual corners and some odd little jogs because it was built over old farm paths. Although the track itself is flat, one end runs along the foot of a steep cliff. Still has some sugarcane growing in the infield, as well as traces of irrigation ditches and other farm plots that used to be planted with gailan. (The gailan didn't get replanted this year. Some of the farmers have given up farming and now sell refreshments at the track instead.)

Plum Lake Circuit, Jiangsu Territory (Suzhou is the nearest city, but it may be easier for people traveling from abroad to come in by way of Nanjing because it has a major international airport, a large river port -- suitable for unloading vehicles that have been shipped by boat -- and a bridge across the Yangtze for anyone that is driving in from the North. The Yangtze is the northern border of the Empire, so the bridge is an international border crossing.)
Lap record: 01:25:34
Length: around 6 km
Description: a rambling dirt road course surrounded by orchards, lakes, swamps, and low wooded hills. There are some gentle slopes in the track. Dust is usually not an issue because of the natural dampness of the area. Suzhou Racing Club has agreed to go out before the race and fill in the mud puddles and ruts, as well as putting up safety barriers so nobody drives into a lake or runs over a crowd of spectators -- but this is the Suzhou Racing Club's first experience with NSSCRA and international safety standards and all that jazz, so Ministry of Culture or NSSCRA officials might want to double-check their work.

In general, the Sherpa Empire's domestic stock car racing is poorly regulated and underfunded, so NSSCRA officials will really need to stay on top of things if they want everything up to the same safety standards that exist in more developed nations. If anybody wants to RP about your people raising concerns over sloppy crap they notice my people doing, you can do that. Run it by me if it's going to be something really out-there. Kai Qiang and his crew are a bit sloppy, but they're aware of their own sloppiness and there are limits to the risks they'll take. Liangmei Li and her crew are less professional and might do dangerous crap without even recognizing how dangerous it is. Tsering Chu takes safety the most seriously of my drivers. Plum Lake is more likely to have safety issues than Li River because it's their first time hosting an international race, and they're not used to the safety regulations.

Blue Coast 400
Track: Sonrise Motorway
City: Blue Coast, Vangaziland
Length: 1.6 mi
Record: 00:30.020
Info: Medium sized track just a tick longer than Atlanta Motor Speedway. The beach is about 7 miles to the east. An open view on that side of the stadium-like enclosure gives a view of the coast. The area around the track is full of luxury hotels, casinos and shopping.

Alexandria is our largest city and it would be a shame to not have race track here. Promoters had that same thought and have build a 2 mile roadcours near an old ferry pier in the old Bryceline area. There are a lot of unknowns especially due tot he track being a temporary street track and have a full 180 degree turn.

Yeah, it works.

I'm consistently lazy when it comes to visuals for my own posts, but I still appreciate a lot of the ones that other people post.

Just to double check something... We get a fourth charter for one race right? I have an idea who I'll have pop in. If it's something that can be signed up for, let me know and I'll add it.

That's the open charter, and if you request it for your home race, then you are guaranteed it for that race. However, it is possible to have it for additional races as well if you request it on a race where there have been no requests for it.

Don't forget, also, as a returning RPer, you are entitled to two home races this year, not just one.

The Sherpa Empire won't be using the extra charter at Plum Lake, so that is definitely available for the folks that like to RP about extra drivers.

Not sure yet about the race in Guilin.

The Principality of Lisander, a sports loving, very highly developed nation in Astyria.
