The Holy Grail. A gateway to the root, a source of limitless mana, and a wish-granting device without peer. For generations, mages all over the world have sought to claim it, whether to reach the root, or to fulfill some desire. In the clash, seven mages are chosen by the grail itself to take part in a vicious battle royale. With support from the grail, these seven mages summon powerful servants- Heroic Spirits brought forth from the Throne of Heroes, figures of myth and legend given life in the present day to fight for them. Each servant is placed into one of the seven classes.
Saber, the Heroic Spirit of the Sword. Often knights, these servants wield swords and boast high parameters. King Arthur Pendragon, Sigurd, and Miyamoto Musashi are examples of Heroic Spirits placed in the Saber class.
Archer, the Heroic Spirit of the Bow. Despite the name, any servant that made notable use of ranged attacks can be placed in this class, which boasts excellent long-range capability, as one would expect. Robin Hood, Arjuna, and Oda Nobunaga are examples of Heroic Spirits placed in the Archer class.
Lancer, the Heroic Spirit of the Spear. Most commonly users of spears, but occasionally other polearms may appear. They are often extremely agile and utilize hit-and-run tactics with their long-reaching weapons. Cu Chulainn, Leonidas I, and Brynhildr are examples of Heroic Spirits placed in the Lancer class.
Rider, the Heroic Spirit of the Mount. Servants placed in this class were famed for utilizing some variety of mount, either a creature or a vehicle. They generally have lower parameters than Saber, Lancer, or Archer, but make up for it with their powerful Noble Phantasms. Iskandar, Medusa, and Achilles are examples of Heroic Spirits placed in the Rider class.
Caster, the Heroic Spirit of Sorcery. This class is mostly taken by magic users, but also feature artists, composers, and writers as well. While their physical abilities are low, they have other ways to make up for it, mostly in the form of powerful spells. Merlin, Circe, and Xuanzang Sanzang are Casters who were magic users, while William Shakespeare, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and Thomas Edison are examples of non-magical Casters.
Assassin, the Heroic Spirit of Assassination. This class possesses low attributes, but instead finds its strength in sneak attacks and other subtle means of combat. Most commonly, this role is filled by one of the nineteen beings who took the title of Hassan-i-Sabbah, but spies, serial killers, and poisoners are also able to fill the role. Aside from Hassan, Jack the Ripper, Semiramis, and the Phantom of the Opera are heroic spirits placed into the Assassin class.
Berserker, the Heroic Spirit of Madness. This class belongs to servants who went mad in life, and when manifested, their madness causes them to trade their sanity for boosts to their stats. Despite their power, this class is also difficult to control, as many Berserkers are too mad to properly understand orders, and cause a large mana drain. Herakles, Beowulf, and Lu Bu are examples of Heroic Spirits summoned as Berserkers.
Aside from these seven, special extra classes can materialize as well. These are listed below.
These servants are commanded by their Masters, the ones who have summoned them. Most masters are trained Magi, though on occasion, an outsider is given the opportunity to command a servant by the grail. Though mere humans are leagues below even the weakest servants, they can be powerful combatants in their own right, utilizing both spells and mystic codes
Each Master is blessed with three command seals by the grail, as a symbol of their servant's obedience. Each master may spend a command seal to make an unbreakable order, or temporarily boost their servant's power beyond their average strength. The seven chosen Masters are given the opportunity of a lifetime. Not only will you have the chance to have any possible desire fulfilled, but you will come face to face with the greatest heroes and villains of history and myth.
S T O R Y
The year is 2018, and the grail has been surfaced once again. Not simply the lesser grail, which is used as a tool to summon the true one. The Greater Grail itself has surfaced, and its presence has caused a stir in the magus community.
More to come.

Masters and Servants alike can and will die. In the event of death, it is possible for a Master to form a contract with a new servant, and vice-versa. If a Servant loses their master and does not form a new contract, they will fade within a minimum of 24 hours, though some servants have ways of prolonging this time. If a master loses their servant, they can attempt to form a pact with a new one, or continue to influence the war on their own. Applications may be submitted for servants, masters, or both. Each player will be allowed to play up to two servants and two masters. However, you must play an equal number of masters and servants.

- Skills. Each servant possesses a unique combination of skills, some granted by their class, and the others given according to their personal life. Skills should be chosen with a 'fewer is better' mentality, and should be given ranks appropriate for servant's age and fame. The maximum number of personal skills a servant may possess is 5, not counting the class skills. Making up original skills is allowed and encouraged, so long as their effects are detailed.
- Noble Phantasm. A Noble Phantasm is a servant's trump card, usually based around an item or event that was crucial to their legend. This page explains them and details canon examples, as well as the types. Like skills, the rank of Noble Phantasms is influenced by age and fame, with older and more famous legends earning more power. As with skills, a 'fewer is better' mentality should be utilized, as most servants will only possess one or two.

Q: Can I make [X] a servant?
A: The cutoff date for a servant is 1918, meaning that if they were born after that, they're inapplicable. If they fit the proper timeframe, think about their accomplishments and what they really meant for history. Simply killing people with guns isn't enough for a modern person to ascend to the throne of heroes. They have to leave some kind of lasting impression on the world.
Q: What ranks should I give a skill?
A: It depends on the skill and the servant in question. Many skills have the effects of their ranks and some of the servants who hold the skill at that rank listed on the wiki. For others, it's a little more difficult. Some baselines of common skills are listed below.
- Charisma: B rank is the rank for the leader of a country or nation. May be higher or lower depending on the quality of their rule.
- Golden Rule: A rank is reserved for figures such as Gilgamesh or Edmond Dantes, who were the richest men on earth in their respective times. Simply being wealthy is not enough to earn this skill, their wealth must be a part of their tale.
- Eye of the Mind: First off, which version to choose? In a nutshell, (False) is used for natural skill that they were born with. (True) is used for skill that was developed through training and experience. The servant should be known for their ability to remain calm and observant during fights, able to pick out weak points and the like. Simply being good at fighting will not give this skill.
- Battle Continuation: For a frame of reference: A servant with this skill at A+ survived after being beheaded. A servant with it at rank A used his own intestines to tie himself to a tree so he would die on his feet. A servant with it at B went up against a dragon while he was a senior and refused to die until he'd killed it. If your character cannot claim similar feats, they do not deserve the skill at these ranks.
- Military Tactics: Being in the military does not earn this skill. They must have notoriety as a commander or tactician. For reference, Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar, and Attila the Hun have it at a B rank. If your servant cannot compare to their fame as leaders, the rank should be lowered, or the skill dropped.
- Disengage: A skill allowing the user to flee from battle. If they lack an notable story of fleeing from a fight successfully, they do not deserve this skill.
Q: What about the class skills?
A: Those are a little easier. Their ranks are detailed in the Servant Parameter Guide. Generally, Magic Resistance should be higher for older servants, and moreso for those who explicitly encounter magic in their lives. A notable exception is Babylonian servants, as they seem to have low Magic Resistance unless they have specific stories that deal heavily with magic. Caster class skills should be ranked according to the individual. For example, Semiramis has an EX rank in Territory Creation due to being able to recreate the Gardens of Babylon. However, her item construction is only C ranked, as her ties to creating specific items is lower. On the other hand, Hans Christian Andersen can produce decent magical items through writing, so his Item Construction is also C ranked. But the only territory he can create is an office, so his Territory Creation is only D ranked.
Q: You missed the others.
A: That's not a question, but I did. Their ranks are, again, talked about in the parameter guide. Riding should be at least B ranked for a Rider class servant, though some exceptions like Francis Drake are possible. If your servant has no anecdotes of riding, they should be E ranked or lack the skill. If the servant has no stories of riding but should logically have the skill, such as a knight or a medieval nobleman, a D or C rank will suffice. Characters whose legends have them exclusively use vehicles as their mounts can only go up to a B rank, possibly B+ to represent a preference for a particular kind of vehicle. Or, they can have Riding sealed and utilize a different skill, such as Voyager of the Storm, which governs the ability to captain a nautical vessel. Presence Concealment is tricky, but can be figured out by analyzing how sneaky the servant really was. Jack the Ripper was never apprehended or even identified, so as a servant, she has a high rank. Carmilla, on the other hand, was a serial killer who worked out in the open and preferred to seduce and lure her prey rather than sneaking up on them. Her rank is appropriately low. Some Assassins may replace Presence Concealment with a different skill, such as Mata Hari, who replaces it with her personal skill Espionage, fitting for her life as a spy. Mad Enhancement can be calculated by figuring just how crazy the person was, and how willing you are to sacrifice sanity for stat buffs. EX Mad Enhancement should only be used for extremely special cases.
Q: Can I have magecraft that does [X]
A: Probably. Most effects that you can think of can be used. However, regular magecraft cannot be used to create new objects out of thin air, time travel, go to different dimensions, or anything else on that level. Those effects are exclusively the realm of True Magic, which is not allowed to be used by mages in this RP. Note that modern magecraft isn't going to be particularly harmful to servants, even the ones lacking Magic Resistance. Again, creativity is encouraged with magecraft- try to have at least one thing outside of elemental magic, runes, alchemy, and the other common types that are used.
Q: [X] is a national hero in my country, they should be a high-tier servant!
A: Well, maybe. First of all, you should think about how well known they are outside of their homeland. If their legend isn't very widespread, their power level would take a hit. But don't despair! Servants can get fame boosts in areas where they are more well known. This can buff their parameters, or even grant them new Noble Phantasms. A good example is Vlad III. He is a mid-tier servant at best, but in his home country of Romania, he is a national hero who everyone knows the name of. As such, all of his parameters are raised by one rank in his country. Or Cu Chulainn, who's so widely famous in Ireland that he would gain two new Noble Phantasms- his chariot, and a castle that he can summon.
Q: My servant doesn't have anything that'd work as a Noble Phantasm. What can I do?
A: Servants' Noble Phantasms aren't always strictly items they have in life. They can be crystallizations of deeds, events, and even ideology. To use Beowulf as an example, his Noble Phantasms might appear to be his swords. They are Noble Phantasms, but they are low-ranking and break easily. Beowulf's real trump card is his A-ranked Noble Phantasm, Grendel Buster: Primal Conflict. This Noble Phantasm is activated when he fights unarmed, and makes him hit extremely hard while also making his attacks unreadable to skills like Eye of the Mind. This is based on the battle against Grendel in his myth, where he breaks his weapon, and chooses to kill the monster with his bare hands instead. Deeds can become Noble Phantasms just as much as weapons or items.
Q: What about their army?
A: Army Summoning Noble Phantasms are a touchy subject. They're often generic and slapped onto a servant simply to add more cool factor. We'll look at two such Noble Phantasms, Ionioi Hetairoi: Army of the King, and Thermopylae Enomotia: Guardian at the Hot Gates. Ionioi Hetairoi is possessed by Iskandar, and it summons a Reality Marble- basically a pocket dimension- representing his dream. The dream shared by his followers. Every soldier contributes to manifesting it, as it is a shared experience based more on Iskandar's bond with his men than the standard badassery of his troops.
Thermopylae Enomotia is used by Leonidas, and it replicates the most important part of his legend- the last stand of the 300. This battle is absolutely crucial to Leondias' legend, and any 'replicate a certain battle' Noble Phantasms should hold the same amount of weight. Leonidas' men only last for a short time, manifesting to deflect an attack, and then counterattack. Rather than simply making his army appear, it reproduces the most important part of Leonidas' entire legend.
So, basically, Army Summons shouldn't be built around the badassery of the army. They should be based around what it represented. If there isn't enough to work on to make something like that, then the servant should not have it.
Q: I want to give my servant [X], but I can't find a way to fit it in-
A: If you can't fit it in, they don't deserve to have it.
Q: How strong should [X] heroic spirit be?
A: Servant's power levels have three contributing factors. The servant's age, their fame, and the strength of their legend. Each of these contributes to the power level of the servant. Most servants will be strong in one or two areas, but weak in another. Gilgamesh, the strongest existing servant, has massive age and legend due to being from the Babylonian era, and being the original hero on whom all other myths are based. So when you're determining the strength of your servant, all three should be taken into account.
New questions may be added at a later time.
