What political ideology do you identify as?

Postby Eglaecia » Wed Sep 05, 2018 1:30 pm

Politics today is incredibly centered around ideological labels, that being labels given to a set of social, cultural, economic and ethical viewpoints that address certain issues in society such as the economy, education, morality, government size, military role and strength, foreign policy, immigration and so on. Since the end of WW2, there has been a few dominant political ideologies. In the west: Social Democracy, which promotes state intervention to promote social & economic equality, Liberalism, which has an emphasis on personal freedoms and equal opportunity, and Conservatism, which promotes small government and the preservation of traditional social norms. Of course, these aren't 100% accurate depending on where you go, these are just common traits shared by various mainstream adherents to these ideas. In other parts of the world, notably China and North Korea, the ideology of Communism is prevalent, which is a system where all property is owned by the community, with property, class and currency being abolished (to put it very simply), however when implimented, Communism tended to be totalitarian and statist, as evident in modern-day China and the DPRK, and in previous communist states such as those of Eastern Europe and the USSR.

The concept of political ideology allows for individuals to simply slap a label on themselves so people can get a general idea of what they stand for, who they'd vote for etc. On a forum where politics is so prevalent, it begs the question: What political ideology do you all identify as?

Personally, I would label myself as a moderate conservative or a Christian Democrat. I generally find myself to advocate a foreign policy that is internationalist, pro-globalisation and pro-EU, an economic policy that promotes a fair but free market, and a typical conservative social policy - traditional values and small government.

I'm sort of an anarchist but not in the traditional sense of the word. I think striving for a stateless society is futile and that the state is an inevitability, that it grows out of humans' attempts to have security and order. I also believe that voting is useful and that working within the system to fight for freedom is necessary.

I guess I'd say I'm a personal anarchist. Anarchism isn't really my political ideology, it's more of my personal ideology. I don't believe I owe anything to the state and I don't recognize the state as legitimate and I act in accordance with my conscience, not the law. In many cases the two align, like not murdering or robbing people. I live by a basic code: Do no harm to others (except in necessary self-defense) and do what I can to keep others from harm. But I don't see state power and how they enforce it as any more legitimate than a gang controlling their turf with guns. I recognize that the state is much more powerful than I am and can crush me if I cross it, but if I refrain from doing something I want to do because of the fact that the state can crush me, that is self-preservation, not respect for the law.

I think the best we can hope for is to slowly take back freedom struggle by struggle and strive to minimize the state's influence, and replace it with mutual aid and voluntary association, and work toward the goal of living in a world where power and wealth isn't so disproportionate.

The best terms I can think of the describe me are left-libertarian and anti-authoritarian.
I am an autonomous, sovereign being. I am ungovernable.

It's pretty complicated, there are a few things I believe in: traditionalism, socialism, deep ecology/naturism and ethnic nationalism
This leads to me sympathizing with a couple of ideologies mainly Strasserist national socialism and German National Bolshevism but also anarcho-naturism or anarcho-communism as I ultimately do wish to abolish the state and the establishment of decentralized communes which are socially traditionalist in nature. I sometimes put nature and ecosystems in a higher regard than mankind itself, so sometimes deep ecology just fits. Other times national anarchism or anarcho-communism. Maybe I am just weirdly syncretic.

Strong Libertarian. My positions on the labor theory of value and stronger affinity towards property rights make me a right leaning libertarian, but I am not dogmatically so right wing as I am libertarian (e.g. I have nothing against communes like the Kibbutz, although I don't want to live in one, and I think individual ownership would be the norm instead of the exception in any libertarian society.)

I wouldn't necessarily classify myself as anarchist, though I have many anarchist sympathies, I see the state as a necessary precondition for strong property rights and enforcing contracts under a rule of law. That being said I agree so much that the state can't even get this right half the time.

Extreme progressive. I think the state should wipe my bottom and blow my nose, and that everyone is entitled to a consequence-free environment. No one has a duty to work, which would be oppression, but everyone has the right to be paid. Men and women, whites and black, smart and stupid are all equal, and we should take from whomever outperforms and give to whomever underperforms to make sure that's remembered. Divorce should be quick and easy, otherwise marriage would be a commitment, which defeats the point. The bottom demographic should use more in services than they pay in taxes, and we should import as many more people into this demographic as possible for maximum sustainability and votes. Whites should daily say sorry to all the descendants of slaves they bought, as well as thank you to all the descendants of the blacks who sold them to us--in fact apologize to them as well, as colonialism ended slavery and stopping the slave trade ruined Africa's native economy. We also should pay reparations to gays, since their bars, glory holes and parades have enhanced our culture and enriched our communities in ways we refused to tolerate for so long. Most of all I want to thank women for giving us incredible leaders such as Merkel, Clinton, May, and yes, even Thatcher.

I identify as a moderately conservative nationalist. Family values, patriotism, regionalism and national heritage conservation are values close to my heart, so my views on politics align with them. On economic issues I tend to take a pro market-economy stance, but only when market interests do not clash with national interests.

Mutualist, libertarian socialist, left-libertarian, syndicalist... somewhere in there.

Yes, workers need to seize the means of production. But then they should use them, democratically, to compete with each other in a free (actually free, devoid of capitalist and financial interference and malfeasance) market.
