U.S. Military murders Reuters' reporters. Covers it up.

Postby Soyut » Mon Apr 05, 2010 10:23 am

WikiLeaks has released a classified US military video depicting the indiscriminate slaying of over a dozen people in the Iraqi suburb of New Baghdad -- including two Reuters news staff. Reuters has been trying to obtain the video through the Freedom of Information Act, without success since the time of the attack. The video, shot from an Apache helicopter gun-site, clearly shows the unprovoked slaying of a wounded Reuters employee and his rescuers. Two young children involved in the rescue were also seriously wounded.

If anything proves how debased and insane the U.S. military has become, I hope this does.

Just watched this on Russia Today...I question how real it is though. Very, very clear compared to most Gun Cam footage I have watched and that makes me suspicious.

I've seen higher quality helicopter footage from local news companies. This is from an Apache Longbow "D." Arguably the most sophisticated weapons platform to ever be put on a helicopter. Plus, it would take a enormous effort to stage something like this. The scripted pilot dialogue, over fifteen actors, a Bradley fighting vehicle. Not to mention that this video is verified by actual murders, according to Reuters.

Well it look pretty bad. Civis getting killed in Iraq is nothing new thought. I didn't see any of the supposed AK's mentioned in the audio track. ...but if this is being covered up then how did the video get out?

This was officially released yesterday. Please show me evidence that this video is as old as you say it is.

There is a comment to that effect here:

It was leaked by someone. An anonymous whistle blower.

I didn't hear them say Ak-47 either, but I also didn't watch the 30 minute unedited version. They did say RPG, and they clearly pointed directly at the reporter and called his camera a "weapon."

This is disgusting, especially when they are looking for excuses to shoot the wounded reporter. They kept saying things like "pick up a weapon" because when they are armed it gives them an excuse to shoot. Perhaps they were making up seeing AK's and RPG's, just so they could fire.

Actually depends on ROE and the situation most of the time they are allowed to kill wounded since you can't land the Helo and pick them up obviously. I imagine it being an urban center made it so ROE meant they could only engage those with weapons or presenting an active threat. Again I still find the Gun Camera footage to be way too clear from the hundreds I have seen coming out of Iraq and Afghanistan over the years.

Well my roommate's uncle showed us a bunch of FLIR videos of him nailing badguys from a AC - 130 gunship. Other than a few solid hours of that, no, not much. Please do make make ad hominem criticisms about me in the future.

I've seen footage like this as well, and it was almost just as clear. I can't remember what it was, but sometimes the cameras are very good quality.

That isn't an ad hom it is a statement of fact. Gun Cam footage is notoriously pixilated even when not using FLIR. You can barely make out what they are carrying let alone doing half the time.

I would like to see some all I have seen are of rather shoddy quality and that isn't even FLIR footage.

Honestly, this is the kind of defeatist bs attitude that gets our soldiers killed. First and foremost, look up the word murder. Secondly, when you create an aura around the troops forcing them to second guess every decision they make in a combat zone you are in a sense, contributing to their demise.

Or, better yet, abolish the military.

If you watched the video, the soldiers did not second guess. As soon as they 'saw' the people carrying weapons, they waited for a clear shot then fired. There was no confirmation that they were, in fact, carrying weapons.

I'll agree that it's suspiciously good quality, but it would take a lot of dedication to fake this, I just can't see people doing that. I don't know the size of the monitor the gunner was watching on, if it was fairly small (or low quality) he might have easily mistaken the cameras for AKs and RPGs.

I wonder if the personal who made the statements had actually watched the Longbow's camera or not.

LOLWUT? Confirmation by whom? If the pilot and the gunner say they are carrying weapons Command is not going to question it. They even got on the horn with local ground forces and asked if they had guys in the area which was responded to with a No. So with them being in proximity to Friendly Forces the Helo pilot made the decision to neutralize a threat seems rather textbook. Blue on Blue is a reality of warfare.

Turn the damn sound on...

They got permission to fire from the CO pursuant to the rules of engagement. What the fuck do you want? A poorly armored fucking Humvee driving through hostile territory for an hour just to verify and inform the insurgent fucks that we are going to shoot them?
