[SUBMITTED] Repeal Asbestos Consumption, Disposal...

Repeal "Asbestos Consumption, Disposal And Worker Protection"
Category: Repeal

This august World Assembly,

Reminding itself that passed resolutions cannot be amended, and the only way to correct errors is by repeal,

Displeased with section 7 due to the target’s reliance on an arbitrary figure which may misstate the level of danger posed by a certain composition level, especially if that composition is sealed,

Noting section 3 of the target resolution, which “mandates that member states shall bring into force a ban on ... marketing of asbestos-containing products”,

Believing that there may exist cultural artefacts or real estate may contain asbestos, all of which are products, ie things which are produced or manufactured,

Concerned that such a ban would deprive museums and other institutions of education the funds necessary to effect their mission to educate their populaces and spread respect for world cultures, and

Horrified that the resolution has effectively banned the marketing of much old real estate, meaning that persons are financially trapped in asbestos-containing homes that they lack the funds to remodel or repair, hereby:

Repeals GA 435 “Asbestos Consumption, Disposal And Worker Protection”.

Against.
While she had no regrets about throwing the lever to douse her husband's mistress in molten gold, Blanche did feel a pang of conscience for the innocent bystanders whose proximity had caused them to suffer gilt by association.

Opposed. If you are so horrified at the prospect of people being trapped in asbestos filled houses increase your welfare. Don't attack workers' rights and try to frame it as a benefit to the proletariat.

The Delegation from Imperium Anglorum is known to be radically neoliberal. Hence an attempt to combat workers' rights not to get melanoma.

We eventually have to draw the line somewhere. All legislation like this will have an "arbitary" limit. The limit wasn't exactly arbitary: I looked around various guidelines to find a figure.

Noting section 3 of the target resolution, which “mandates that member states shall bring into force a ban on ... marketing of asbestos-containing products”,

Why are you noting this without any argument?

Believing that there may exist cultural artefacts or real estate may contain asbestos, all of which are products, ie things which are produced or manufactured,

I strongly doubt that cultural artefacts would contain asbestos. The whole point of this resolution is to end asbestos use, adversely affecting the economy.

Concerned that such a ban would deprive museums and other institutions of education the funds necessary to effect their mission to educate their populaces and spread respect for world cultures, and

Yet again, I doubt that a society, discovering something fireproof, would make statues from it.

Horrified that the resolution has effectively banned the marketing of much old real estate, meaning that persons are financially trapped in asbestos-containing homes that they lack the funds to remodel or repair, hereby:

I have marked this proposal illegal due to an honest mistake violation.

Honest Mistake Rule -- the penultimate clause is misleading because the target resolution's ban on "asbestos-containing products" doesn't take effect until June 30, 2024.

There was never a statement on when the proposal came into effect in the repeal. And quite frankly 6 years to make massive adjustments to housing and infrastructure is not a reasonable time frame for even the most advanced nations.

Simply mentioning the arbitrary time frame does not change the point of the repeal in any way.

I would also argue that not mentioning the time frame doesn't help the repeal or mislead voters as the proposal coming into effect is inevitable.

OOC: Link to the target resolution since IA hasn't yet added it to the thread on this forum.

In any case, "for" this repeal, though more due to reasons I mentioned on the resolution's drafting thread than what's outlined here.
