[DRAFT] A Non-Metric Ton of Complaints

Postby Charliber » Fri Jul 13, 2018 10:56 am

Issue is only available to nations with Metricism.

[title] A Non-Metric Ton of Complaints
[description] The @@DEMONYMADJECTIVE@@ Cultural Heritage Preservation Foundation recently successfully petitioned to officially reinstate empirical units of measurement.

[option] "@@LEADER@@, we must preserve our cultural heritage be dropping the usage of the metric system!" proclaims @@RANDOMNAME@@, current chair of the @@DEMONYMADJECTIVEINITIALS@@CHPF. "Sure, the imperial units may not be as easily learned or widely used as metric, but that just means @@DEMONYMPLURAL@@ will be more arithmetically proficient because of all the constant mental math, right? Besides, the unit names are so much better!"
[effect] Liquids are now measured in "@@DEMONYMADJECTIVE@@ slobber-globs."

[option] "Really? I mean, really!?" exclaims passing schoolteacher, @@RANDOMNAME@@. "It was already so much effort to force everyone to switch, and now you want us to switch back, only this time to a more illogical system which is only used in @@REGION@@? WHY!? It's not even like we're forcing them to use metric! Okay, I guess we kind of are, but still! This is really dumb! Metric is superior by every conceivable. . . er, metric."
[effect] It was another normal day in @@NAME@@.

We prefer for policy reversals to introduce some new angle on the issue, or discuss unintended consequences of the original decision. This one is just restating the original decision and asking if you want to change your mind. It's not adding anything new.

From the topic, it seems as if you've surveyed the Writer's Block for ideas. That said, if you haven't already done so, I'd strongly suggest reading the Got Issues FAQ & How to Write an Issue. Following the advice there will help improve your description, option and effect writing. There's a lot that needs to be done here, and it would behoove you to do some quality control before taking another stab at this.

Sorry, this is our fault.

While I've been updating my own list of issue gaps periodically, NoQ's list is several years out of date so is requesting many issues that have been produced some time ago.

I've taken the executive decision of removing NoQ's list, as it seems like an unfair newbie trap to have new authors need to work out which list is the one they should be referring to.

Could we perhaps have a new, easy to find official list, which is periodically updated?

That list has always existed, in the second post of the writer's block. It's been there over 18 months, and was updated most recently something like... 2 days ago?

Should be more visible now I've removed NoQ's list.
