I think that's a matter of what distinctions they expect customers to care about, not what distinctions they could possibly identify if they needed the information. I'm not a geneticist either, but when I lived in China, I noticed that people looked different from one province to the next, and that's just the ones that identify as Han. It's not even getting into Uighurs and Tibetans and whatever.
Uygurs and Tibetans aren’t Chinese. I don’t think there’s any confusion or controversy on that question. Also, phenotypal differences amongst Chinese doesn’t mean they aren’t ‘more genetically homogenous’ than white people, given that the same argument applies for white people. I honestly don’t know, scientifically, which group is more genetically similar but honestly I think we borh agree this question isn’t a particularly significant one, except for racists who really really care about this stuff
I don't know if they're more or less genetically diverse than white people, but I suspected that you were relying on a stereotype of Chinese people being actually homogeneous -- which they're not. And I think that stereotype is worth dispelling. The diversity between the different provinces of China is beautiful and fascinating and grossly underappreciated.
