Gods Among Us: Reforged
A Sandbox Meta-Human RP

Welcome
Welcome to the seventh iteration of God's Among Us, a Nationstates RP franchise that has had several forms through out it's history, and while I only joined in its sixth iteration, I have grown to understand its many different forms and have decided to take the reins and bring new life into the worlds of Gods Among Us by taking it back to it's original form, as I understand it, as a player-led city sandbox roleplaying experience.

This world is designed to be shaped by player choice and player interaction, with as little story management or player restrictions as possible, to create one of the more open ended roleplaying experiences in Nationstates to date. With players have a vast array of options for characters, actions, powers, goals, and so much more right at their finger tips, I hope that this will lead to a stable and energized community that wants to work together to form the story.
Lore
Meta-Humans have been living amongst humanity for centuries. The term meta-human is a broad stroke to define humans with some level of power that a normal human could not hope to attain. Some meta-humans have genetic differences that make them excel in some ways, others have supernatural abilities that give them god-like powers, while some humans are just so abnormally skilled that they are just as powerful as other kinds of meta-humans. Regardless of what their powers are or where they come from, the entire world can understand the power and danger they possess for the rest of humanity.

Fearful of a meta-human caused war or the weaponization of meta-humans, the UN agreed to ban the operations of all meta-humans within the majority of the world, except in a few designated areas, as well as creating a unified taskforce that specializes in defeating metahumans. The passage of this law faced meta-humans with three apparent options, stop using their powers and attempt to blend into society, keep using their powers and face persecution from the UN or flee into what had been dubbed "Sanctuary Zones". A vast majority decided to go with the third option, leading to a massive influx of meta-humans into these designated areas, the most popular being Westernport, an city on a man-made archipelago off of the coast of California.
The Islands of Westernport
Westernport is divided into seven different man-made islands. They are:
  • Michelson Island: Named after the founder of Westernport, Michelson Island is the eastern-most island in the archipelago and the location of the Westernport International Airport. It is similar to the downtown areas of places like Philadelphia or Boston.
  • Pudding Isle: Just south of Michelson Island, Pudding Isle is famous for Long Beach, a sandy beachline that goes along the entire southern coast of the island, and its numerous resorts, casinos, and amusement parks. It is similar to a coastal resort town in Florida.
  • Bellefonte and Trenton Islands: The two smallest islands, just west from Michelson Island, serve as industrial storage and warehouse spaces for different goods that are sent to and from the island, and are named after the founder's two partners. They are similar to any part of a city where it is mostly just warehouses.
  • Westport Island:The large center island is named Westport Island, and is where the large ports and dockyards of the archipelago are found as well as Center Park, a large park space. It is similar to cities like New York and Chicago.
  • Cherrybush Isle: Located just west of Westport Island, Cherrybush Isle is the location of more lower income families and is known for poor economic conditions and larger crime rates when compared to the rest of the islands, with poverty levers worsening the further up you go on the island. It is similar to the stereotypes of rustbelt cities such as Detroit.
  • Terrapin Island: The epitome of poverty for the archipelago, Terrapin Island, located north of Cherrybush Isle, is home to abandoned industrial buildings and factories. It is similar to any abandoned industrial zone you might see.

Rules
General Rules
  • Follow all Nationstates forum rules. They can be found here under General Guidelines
  • Listen to the OP and anyone I appoint as a Co-OP. Our judgment is binding. If a Co-OP makes a decision you don’t like, I will have a look at it and can repeal their decision if I see fit, but if I end up agreeing with them, or if I make a decision on my own, complaining isn't going to help fix it and can get you removed from the RP if you are insistent.
    Current Co-Ops:Demencia
  • Please try to have good quality posts. They do not have to be long, posts, but any IC posts should try to have proper English spelling and grammar and progress the story forward. Any post that is simply "My character sits down and eats a meatloaf." without any important idea towards character development or plot development is not acceptable.
  • Please be respectful of people in the OOC and maintain a standard of ethics in the IC as well. Bigoted, intolerant, or rude players will not be dealt with here.
  • Please try to be committed to posting for your character. Nothing is worse then an RP where half of the players stop posting after two posts, leaving plot points and character interactions hanging in limbo. Being too busy to post for a day or so is acceptable, just don't drop this RP when you are in the middle of something with another character without a warning.
  • Please give people a chance to respond to your posts, if the posts directly involve other players, I.E. you are working as a group or are having a conversation with other characters.
  • Metagaming, using OOC or IC information that your character would have no basis knowing to guide your decisions, and God-modding, controlling other people's character's actions without their authorization or claiming to get out of situations your character had no way of doing, is absolutely not allowed.
  • Player characters can die, however, player characters cannot kill player characters without consent of the players. If a player character does get themselves in a NPC death trap or something not player controlled, I will be as lenient as possible, but my leniency can only go so far though.
Character Rules
  • Players are allowed only a maximum of three player characters at a time. This is meant to improve character roleplaying and prevent one person having an overabundance of characters filling the roster.
  • Characters are allowed only one Meta-Power, but that power can also grant you multiple subsidiary powers that have to fit with the main one.
  • Some powers, such as large scale time control or mass hypnosis are not allowed due to their overpowered nature, if a problem arises, it is the job of the OP or Co-OPs to determine whether the power is acceptable or not and may ask you to tone it's power down.
NPC Rules
  • Players are allowed to control the actions of NPCs within reason.
  • Primary control of NPCs resides with the OP and Co-OPs, but the play can have NPCs do stuff, like have a bartender give them a drink, or have a hoodlum NPC attempt to rough them up, without involving the OP or Co-OPs
  • Players can control the actions of any minor sidekicks or henchmen as they see fit as they are tied to the main character.
  • Abuse of NPC control will not be tolerated.

God’s Among Us: Reforged
Character Application Form

Name: Sorcha Amare.
Alias: The Alchemist.
Gender: Female.
Age: 15.
Sexual Orientation: Asexual.
Nationality: Canadian.
Appearance:
    Height:
    Weight:
Clothing Description: Sorcha just throws on whatever she finds. It doesn't matter how weird her outfit looks, after all, it's just clothes. Usually wears crocs and a deflated, red bubble jacket, regardless of the weather.
    Image)

Meta-Power: Transmutation:
Her Meta-Power is based on these rules/steps..

Comprehension - Understanding the inherent structure and properties of the atomic or molecular makeup of a particular material to be transmuted, including the flow and balance of potential and kinetic energy within.
Deconstruction - Using energy to break down the physical structure of the identified material into a more malleable state so as to be easily reshaped into a new form.
Reconstruction - Continuing the flow of energy so as to reform the material into a new shape.
And..

The Law of Conservation of Mass, which states that energy and matter can neither be created from nothing nor destroyed to the point of elemental nonexistence. In other words, to create an object weighing one kilogram, at least one kilogram of material is necessary and destroying an object weighing one kilogram would reduce it to a set of parts, the sum of which would weigh one kilogram.
The Law of Natural Providence, which states that an object or material made of a particular substance or element can only be transmuted into another object with the same basic makeup and properties of that initial material. In other words, an object or material made mostly of water can only be transmuted into another object with the attributes of water.

Subsidiary Powers: N/A.
Limitations: Transmutations cannot be performed on objects larger than, say, a small shack or a car, and must be performed within a 15 feet radius of Sorcha. Her hand has to be free, fingers extended to use her abilities. If her fists were clenched, nothing would happen, and unless she is right next to it, she has to touch a surface connecting to the subject that she is going to transmute, with her hand. This ability cannot create or alter the form of living beings, but can use materials from them.
Weaknesses: N/A.
Skills: Sorcha is able to block out her emotions near completely, is agile/flexible and has high intelligence.
Job: Student [High School].
Notability : She has no sort of popularity. Though, she is known to be one of if not the smartest student in Westernport without powers influencing her mental capabilities.
Equipment: N/A. She may bring around a portable gaming device or book though.

Personality: [Body Language] Sorcha appears detached, analytical and 'chill'. She looks at you as if her head is full of all sorts of options and questions, her eyes dancing and darting around.
Her head is level with the person she is speaking with. She doesn't not place her ahead above or downwards of anybody the same height as her. That sounded better in my head.

[View of Herself] Until she knows the truth behind a person, her opinion will always remain neutral, and though there are a few exceptions, they are only minor deviances.
[General] Independent, Logical, Procrastinating, Calm, Objective, Absent-minded, Spontaneous, Reserved, Thoughtful, Skeptical and Honest (Brutally so.)

Goals: She has yet to discover what she truly wants. With her brain and her Meta-Power she could be doing so much more, but fails to find motivation.
Setbacks: N/A.

Biography: Sorcha moved around a lot when she was growing up. This was with her father, Albert Wilson, as her mother had been killed around the time she was born after a gang escaping from the police accidentally struck her with their van. They were somewhat poor, since her father was a 'scientist'. Once a big shot, he was fired from his work for a mysterious incident which to this day Sorcha is not aware of. Yet Albert continued, wasting countless dollars on "Important research" that never lead anywhere, and never raked in the bills. Sorcha used her transmutation to help him the best she could, though refusing to create money, something that could easily be done. Once did get a job at a subpar, family-owned restaurant due to his 'connections'. Still, it was barely enough to support the duo...after all, they did pack up and move around every few months, and McDonalds wasn't even half as generous. For the greatest time of their lives since mom's death, they lived at Führer Ann's [Aunt Wilson] house, since she was kind (a word not usually attributed to the old woman) enough to take them in. However, all good things come to an end. It wasn’t that they were kicked out or anything, but Albert was diagnosed with a pretty much incurable disease. The only person they could find who was able and willing to help him was a metahuman doctor in Michelson Island, Westernport, and as a result they moved out there.

Do what you want with characters, if you want to scrap this one that is fine by me. I also edited the character application by adding in one line, so you can either add that in if you want to stick with this character, or you can start fresh.

Its up to you.

Also, I have had my fair share of superhero RPs, both text based and tabletop, and about 80% of the time people just rip off characters from other sources, it happens more often then you would think.

Plus he'll be much more interesting in an open-world environment.

Sounds good then. Also, I noticed, you don't have to have a costume for your character if you don't want it, that option is there to provide people who would want one the chance.

    Image
    Costume for the Blue Musketeer

Meta-Power: Immortal Attraction: Aurélie Proulx has the power to look beautiful and attractive for her entire life.
Subsidiary Powers: Charming: Due to her outward physique, she has advantage on seducing, manipulating, and ordering those around her.
Limitations: Her power works based on her own definition of beauty and attraction, and it does not affect people who may not find her attractive, making her subsidiary power ineffective against them. He powers also can't affect her height, weight, or hair style.
Weaknesses: N/A
Skills: Sword fighting, Persuasion, Parkour, Modeling, Horseback ridding
Job: Aurélie Proulx is a fashion model
Notability : Aurélie Proulx is a well known in her line of work and has a clique of devoted fans.
Equipment: Rapier Sword

Personality: Aurélie Proulx is a self centered and arrogant person with a warm and friendly demeanor, although she does have a much colder and harsher side should she become angry and irritated at someone.
Goals: She strives for fame, fortune, and adoration for herself.
Setbacks: She thinks too highly of herself and is extremely rash, inevitably leading her to ruin her chances by rusing into problems the belives she can solve only to mess up or make a fool out of herself.

Biography: Born to very rich parents in France, Aurélie Proulx lived a life of grandiose styles where she rubbed elbows with the elite of French society. An active child, she took up activates of fencing, parkour, and horseback riding at a young age, and has continued to develop these skills, something that proved useful when her powers started to appear. Her strange powers came into effect around the time she entered high school were fairly evident by her facial complexion, which differed greatly from both of her parents in some ways, as well as the unnatural sway she had over her classmates at her preppy boarding school who found her attractive. This unnatural beauty netted her fame in front of the camera and she soon turned to a carrier of modeling after her education was over. Finding out that she thrived in and craved time in the lime light, she tried her hardest to be the center of attention and gain a lot of fame. When her novelty and time in the spotlight began to fade, she decided to take on a large gamble in order to stay relevant.

Deciding to become a superhero to improve her publicity, Aurélie Proulx created the Blue Musketeer, a sword-swinging, death-defying hero of the people based on the story of the Three Musketeers. Her skills and beauty regained her relevance back in the public eye and rocketed her career up to new heights, even gaining her a international band of devotees. However, her fresh life in France was short lived due to the passage of the UN resolution banning meta-humans. Worried what it would mean if she continued her career in France, Aurélie Proulx, the Blue Musketeer, fled to the archipelago of Westernport to continue her meta-power dependent career, and her meta-hero publicity stunt without fear of punishment.

God’s Among Us: Reforged
Character Application Form

Name: Kathlyn "Kate" Marigold
Alias: Dalia Pallas
Gender: Female
Age: 24
Sexual Orientation: Bisexual
Nationality: Canadian
Position: Hero
Appearance:
    Height: 167 cm
    Weight: 57 kg
Out of Costume Description: Blonde hair, blue eyes, American skin tone. Usually wears long sleeves and pants. Her ability doesn't leave scars but it often gets her covered in her own blood so the majority of her clothing is dark or red. Current outfit is a long black coat, grey cotton pants and a navy shirt.
Costume Description: Long coat, gloves, police-grade body armour and sometimes sunglasses or earplugs. Her method of combat prohibits novelty costumes since they're liable to being... well, you know... destroyed.

Meta-Power: Excessive regeneration. Kathlyn isn't (inherently) strong or able to move rocks with her mind but she is able to recover from injuries nearly instantaneously. This doesn't seem to have a physical source. You can shoot her, rip off an arm, incinerate her and she'll just regenerate from the biggest chunk outward at a rate of about 4 kilograms per second. Of course this means that it'd take around fifteen seconds to recover from full bodily destruction but shallow cuts and bullet wounds will regenerate at a much quicker pace.
Subsidiary Powers: Adaptational regeneration. Kathlyn's body becomes more suited to combat when she is injured. Her abilities are currently limited to greatly increased grip strength, streamlined bodily features and sharpened eyesight. As her abilities progress so too will her evolution, granting her excess strength, speed and sensory input. It'd take several minutes of sustained combat to increase her lifting strength by even a kilogram however; and it increases metabolism greatly.
Limitations: Although Kathlyn can regenerate essentially forever if something gets in the way of her regeneration she will be unable to bypass anything stronger than balsa wood. For example if you were to cut off her arm then leave the blade in place she would not be able to regenerate past the blade until it was removed. Similarly if there's not enough room for her body to recompose itself then it simply won't happen. Hunger, dehydration and sleep deprivation will not kill her but will render her almost comatose.
Weaknesses: Kathlyn, although impossible to kill, is easily incapacitated. Anything works. Burying her under rubble, knocking her out, using a taser, poisoning her (though this will never kill her), locking her in a room full of water and letting her drown forever: any way you can tie down a regular human or knock them out works on her.
Skills: Driver, cook, carpenter, psychologist. Can fire a gun, limited self-defence training.
Job: Psychologist involved in diagnosis and treatment of minor mental abnormalities. Nothing serious.
Notability : Almost entirely unknown. Kathlyn never went out of her way to get noticed since spending centuries in a cell without the ability to die isn't her idea of 'fun'.
Equipment: A knife, a pistol and a lighter.

Personality: Pragmatic and emotionally varied. Kathlyn is an effective actor in times where intimacy or intimidation are necessary. Considering the fairly grisly and surprising nature of her abilities she often resolves conflicts by either convincing her opponents she is not worth their time or trying to scare them away. Under regular circumstances she is open and friendly but not particularly charismatic.
Goals: A future with money, recognition and stability. Now that she's essentially immortal Kathlyn can't afford to screw up her future aspirations. She is also motivated by fear, as she is afraid that she will be captured by authorities and imprisoned indefinitely. Her tendency toward heroism is to prove to the public and governments that meta-humanity is not a threat to their existence.
Setbacks: Her relative powerlessness. Kathlyn knows she can't die but she's not particularly charismatic, popular or offensively powerful. It's hard for her to achieve things by herself. Capture and the constant assault of others also make it difficult for her to achieve her dreams of peace.

Biography: Kathlyn was born in Toronto to a fairly affluent family. She went to school, got good grades and was generally held to a high standard of normality. In fact the only indication of her power was that she never got injured as a kid. No papercuts or anything. Of course there were the occasional instances of grievous injury, like falling off a bike or cutting one's finger but those were explained away as mere anomalies. The first confirmation that her ability existed came at age 14, when a car veered into her and crushed her entire lower body against a brick wall. She got up just half a minute later, covered in her own blood but otherwise completely fine. After that the police started showing up at her door, demanding that she stop practising her abilities. Of course, she couldn't; so they left her with a warning and orders to report in every month. She pursued a career in psychology and graduated by the skin of her teeth, all the while keeping her abilities on the down-low.

Of course there had to be some kind of reason for arriving in Westernport, right? Unlike others Kathlyn's arrival was out of choice. She saw the endemic issues in the sanctuary. There were uncontrolled metahumans attacking people left and right, terrorist attacks launched from the city and more. Most policemen, workers and skilled professionals refused to work on the island. Kate arrived to do what she could; whether it was offering her services as a psychologist or suppressing dissidents who threatened to paint metahumans as the greatest threat to humanity since the advent of nuclear weaponry.

WIP apps, I've got a vague idea for a surrogate family of former meta-human experiments that have essentially given up on humanity, and are thus villains.

God’s Among Us: Reforged
Character Application Form

Name: Xú Jiàn
Alias: Leviathan
Gender: Male
Age: 33
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Nationality: American
Position: Villain
Appearance:
    Height: 6'7
    Weight: 270 lbs
    Out of Costume Description:
    Image

Costume Description: N/A (Generally, the effects of his powers are sufficient to disguise him in a fight.)

Meta-Power: In any situation activating his "fight or flight" response, (usually a combat situation) Leviathan's body will automatically alter its structure in whatever way necessary to ensure Leviathan's continued physical and mental survival. (e.g., if you hit him with a fire ball, his body will shapeshift to become extremely flame-retardant.) In addition, his body will often also alter itself to become capable of copying attacks used on it. (e.g., if you use hypnotic flashing lights on him, his body will not only remove his eyes and enhance his other senses to compensate, but also develop the ability to hypnotize people using bioluminescent light.) These adaptations are not permanent. (See Weaknesses.)
Subsidiary Powers: Leviathan's adaptation power also doubles as an incredibly potent healing factor, as the best way to survive wounds is to no longer have those wounds.
Limitations: While Leviathan's shapeshifting is incredibly versatile, even capable of transforming parts of his body into non-baryonic matter if necessary, it still follows the law of conservation of mass. Slowly chipping away at the amount of matter he has access to is an effective way of fighting him. (Although matter shed from his body retains his abilities, and will try to shapeshift into a mobile form and return to him.)
Weaknesses: As soon as Leviathan is out a fight, and his body has switched priorities to recovery, it will cannibalize any adaptations he developed in order to conserve mass-energy. Thus, breaking combat with Leviathan would allow someone to "reset" him to his base human form, a strategy that could be useful if he has become too powerful to beat.

Leviathan's adaptations are totally outside of his control, and aren't particularly "smart" - one way of fighting him is to bait his body into adapting to a certain attack, in a way that also makes it exceptionally vulnerable to another attack.
Skills: He has deliberately practiced boxing and marksmanship in order to enhance his fighting abilities.
Job: (What is your job in society (aside from being a hero/villain) if you have one? I.E. "Klark Cent works as a reporter for a local news company" or you can work as possibly a teacher for other metahumans.)
Notability : (How famous or infamous is your character?)
Equipment: (What is the equipment your character has?)

Personality: (How would you use describe your character's personality?)
Goals: (What goals does your character strive for?)
Setbacks: (What trials and tribulations keep your character from their goal?)

Biography: (What is the biography of your character?)

God’s Among Us: Reforged
Character Application Form

Name: Alison Bouchard
Alias: Janus
Gender: Female
Age: 30
Sexual Orientation: Bisexual
Nationality: American
Position: Villain
Appearance:
    Height: 5'9
    Weight: 120 lbs
    Out of Costume Description:
    Image

    Costume Description: N/A

Meta-Power: Janus can open disc-shaped portals leading to and from anywhere within her line of sight. These portals have white glowing edges. Janus can move these portals, as well as increase or decrease their radius, but one portal in a linked pair must remain in her line of sight for the link to stay open.
Subsidiary Powers: The main combat application of her power is cutting - e.g. she can open a portal, envelope half of an opponent's body, and then close it to cut them in half. Another application is opening a portal beneath an opponent's feet, then another hundreds of meters in the air, and letting her opponent fall to their death. Yet another application is crushing - by opening one portal to the left of an opponent and another to the right, then slamming those two portals together with the opponent in between, she can cause her opponent to crush themselves into paste with their own body. (As this essentially requires her opponent to already be restrained, this is only really useful as a form of interrogation.) Finally, a fourth application of her power is surveillance - since only one portal needs to remain within her line of sight, she can open a small portal in front of her face and move around the linked portal in order to see and hear further away.
Limitations: While she theoretically has no limit to the number of portals she can create and the radius of her created portals, she has to concentrate to keep each portal open, and larger portals require exponentially more concentration. This puts a "soft" limit on the versatility of her meta-power.
Weaknesses: She has no control over what comes through her portals, and any link that can be travelled one way can also be travelled the other way. This can be taken advantage of, such as by shooting her through one of her "surveillance" portals.
Skills: Charismatic orator, experienced conwoman, skilled leader (Leviathan and Sage both defer to her authority, especially since her meta-power's surveillance applications means she can coordinate them more effectively.)
Job: Thief/Terrorist
Notability : As the de facto leader of Menagerie, Janus is well-known by government forces and the UN, but her public identity is not known to them, and the public at large is not aware of her.
Equipment: A black balaclava, ballistic armour, a nondescript empty delivery truck with a fake license plate and a modified engine.

Personality: (How would you use describe your character's personality?)
Goals: (What goals does your character strive for?)
Setbacks: (What trials and tribulations keep your character from their goal?)

Biography: (What is the biography of your character?)

(Please delete or replace all the stuff in parenthesis, including this.)

Name: Hannah Messervey
Alias: Sage
Gender: Female
Age: 18
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Nationality: American
Position: Villain
Appearance:
    Height: 5'8
    Weight: 140 lbs
    Out of Costume Description:
    Image

Costume Description: N/A (Because neither Leviathan nor Jeanne wear a costume, she has opted not to in order to fit in.)

Meta-Power: Sage is an exceptionally powerful hydrokinetic, able to freely manipulate any water within a three-hundred meter radius. She can accelerate it to speeds rivalling industrial water jets, manipulate its temperature to form ice or steam, and can get it to move and flow in complex, intricate patterns with minimal mental effort. She has no limit on the amount of mass she can manipulate, only range.
Subsidiary Powers: Some applications of her power include weapon-creation, (out of ice) protective shields, (using discs made of water rotating quickly enough to shred bullets into powder.) and explosion-generation. (by rapidly increasing the temperature of water inside of a container, causing pressure to build up.)
Limitations: Sage cannot control saltwater, or water which is a solute in a solution. Significantly, this prevents her from manipulating the water within people's bodies.
Weaknesses: There's only so much water Sage has access to at any given location, especially since the water surrounding Westernport is saltwater.
Skills: Shoplifting
Job: (What is your job in society (aside from being a hero/villain) if you have one? I.E. "Klark Cent works as a reporter for a local news company" or you can work as possibly a teacher for other metahumans.)
Notability : (How famous or infamous is your character?)

Welcome to all of the new nations!

These apps are looking great so far, tell me when you are done and I can add them to the list.

I am hoping to get a good player base before starting the IC, an if it keeps up at this rate we will definitely meet the quota soon!

I am about 2/3 on the way through my first app.

I have one question RE the single meta power rule. Some powers kinda need a second one in order to work... like if you want a super-speed char they kinda need something to stop them instantly dying if they have a collision with something (I usually claim they have a 'flexible frame' so tend to bounce off stuff rather than go splat). Is it okay to include that kind of thing as a subsidiary?

Yeah, that's fine. If a person has the power to run fast, then a safety feature would most definitely be included to counteract that, which would go into the subsidiary powers.
