Does your nation have a civil service? (i.e. employees in government service): Yes
On a scale of 1 to 10, how easy it is to gain employment in the civil service? 5
Is an exam required to be passed to join? No
What are the educational requirements, if any, to join? A bachelor's degree for low-tier positions, a master's or equivalent professional degree for the higher tier.
Officially or unofficially, are political connections needed to join? No. The government employs a blind hiring policy where applicants' identifying information is only given to hiring officials after they have already been shortlisted for the job.
Generally, what is the public perception of the civil service? Overpayed, but generally efficient
How difficult is it to be removed / fired from the civil service? Civil servants generally enjoy better job security than their private sector counterparts, but they can be dismissed for incompetence or misconduct. Top positions in the civil service often are term-based, and must be reappointed periodically by the Chief Executor or his/her designate.
Does your civil service have a standardized pay structure, or does pay vary by agency? Varies by agency
What government agency / department has the most employees? Department of Foreign Affairs, as this department oversees everything related to foreign relations, from trade, to border security, to diplomatic protocol. If the semi-independent Department of National Security, and Department of Immigration are included, this number grows even higher.
What government agency / department has the least employees? Department of Human Rights. Nobody seems quite sure what this department actually does, but no politician wants to appear against human rights so it is allowed to operate with a small staff.
