DITCHED: Why you no like my cooking?

Postby Australian rePublic » Sat Jun 16, 2018 3:39 pm

[title] Why you no like my cooking?

[desc] As part of your election campaign, you are travelling around the nation meeting with locals. In Greenville, a family of immigrants invite you to dinner during a snowstorm. You decide to attend as a PR event, which goes disastrously wrong. As you, individually, were served fries, 2 trays of spanakopita, lamb souvlaki with tzatziki, 2 different salads, olives, corn, bread with various cheeses and dips, dolmades, calamari and octopus. After your appetisers, you were too full for the main course, avgolemono soup with chicken, offending your elderly host, Sophia Hatzidimitros. Fearing that this will cause a backlash in her entire community, whilst still at her house, you must act quickly to protect your integrity

[validity] must allow meat eating, must allow immigration, must have elections, must allow old peopls

[option] "Soup is good in winter to stop stomach pain. Eat, eat, you too skinny!" suggests your host, whilst clearing the table for desert, "Why you no eat? You no like my cooking? Okay, you no like my cooking!"

[effect] @@LEADER@@ is known to eat three meals worth of food in a single sitting

[option] "Never mind my yiayia, she still thinks "you're a good @@BOY@@," she just goes a bit overboard with the cooking," suggests her 20 year old granddaughter, Effie, whilst packing a bag full of lemons the size of your fist, from her grandfather's garden. "Just tell her that you really liked the food and want to take the leftovers home so you can enjoy it tomorrow." She adds three dozen eggs from her grandparents' pet chickens to that bag and hands it to you, "and this is for you."
[effect] leftovers- @@LEADER@@’s solution to all problems

[option] "You're missing the elephant in the room," suggests @@RANDOMNAME@@, your secretary, who also attended, and spent a grand total of 30 seconds reading the Ensyclowiki page about your hosts' culture, "They're offended because you didn't get them a gift. Look at how generous they were, and you didn't even give them anything. I'll ring up a few shops and see if anyone will deliver anything, quickly!"
[effect] awkward cultural faux pas result in awkward gift giving

So what is the issue here? It seems it all comes down to "Should @@LEADER@@ eat the food s/he is offered at his/her hosts' house?" - which is kinda underwhelming.

Also, @@NAME@@ has Greek immigrants???

And, for the effect line of Option 1, overeating on one occasion doesn't mean that you'll keep overeating throughout your life. :p

@@LEADER@@ has offended the entire community of immigrants. Is it unclear? Do I need to reword it?

Who said they were Greek? ;)

Considering that this was a publicity stunt, this is probably the only of @@LEADER@@'s meals that has actually been documented

You just say that @@LEADER@@ offended the host, not an entire community of immigrants. So yes, you may need to reword it.

Who said they were Greek? ;)

You did.

  • spanakopita
  • lamb souvlaki with tzatziki
  • dolmades
  • avgolemono soup with chicken
  • Sophia Hatzidimitros
  • yiayia
  • Effie

Doesn't seem like a coincidence to me. ;)

I'll change that. Thanks!

You did.

[list][*]spanakopita

Could be Italian
[*]lamb souvlaki with tzatziki

Kofter with zazik. Now it's Turksih

[*]avgolemono soup with chicken

Hebrew
[*]Sophia

Russian

We even have some Greeks -- mostly in one small district, which was settled by a mixed community of Greek human and Greek Ursine refugees after the Turkish conquest of the central Morea -- in Bears Armed!
The Confrederated Clans (and other Confrederated Bodys) of the Free Bears of Bears Armed
(includes The Ursine NorthLands) Demonym = Bear[s]; adjective = ‘Urrsish’.
Population = just under 20 million. Economy = only Thriving. Average Life expectancy = c.60 years. If the nation is classified as 'Anarchy' there still is a [strictly limited] national government... and those aren't "biker gangs", they're traditional cross-Clan 'Warrior Societies', generally respected rather than feared.

Second draft is up. Thanks guys. Since it was a minor edit, I didn't bother with a new draft

You are a well established issue author, but from a game perspective, I still don't really see the conflict I guess.

You can't assume that every nation in NS has specifically Greek people in it. I think it would be better if you made up foods with weird, random names. It would also emphasize the immigrant/foreign people thing.

Ex: Chagrash Bungabows (a delicious combination of Chagrash berries and home-style Bungabows)

Agree with this. It's a subtle thing, but the presentation of this scenario just doesn't feel like an issue narrative. Issues should ask you the Leader how you respond on behalf of your nation. A few silly issues sidestep this of course, including some very good ones by yourself, but in this case the story just doesn't feel like it should be turning up in an issue's inbox.
