The small nation of Itaull is weak and vulnerable and ruled by the 16 year old Queen Sofia Fari. The Queen exists as a symbol of power, the real government lies in the hand of the 7 provincial governors, the High Council, and the Grand Council. However, they lack control over the whole country, which is filled with ungoverned areas, often inhospitable jungle where no roads lead. Rumor has it that these areas contain enormous wealth in the form of raw materials such as gemstones.
Thus a plan was hatched, to seize the Queen, and thus power. The success would make the plotters rich, and possibly even allow them to improve the country, bringing it into the modern era.
Haggard Smith, the developer of this plan needed help, so he sought out mercenaries from different lands, promising them riches, power and women.
Geography:
Itaull is surrounded by mountains on its southern border. Frederick's Pass being the best entrance to the country from the south. It is through this pass the main road enters the land. Where the highway meets with the large Makikaw River is where Kantonsville, the largest city and administrative capital is. The population is 400,000. Farther downstream is the ceremonial capital, Palais, where the Queen lives. It has a much smaller population, and is more a palatial complex with suburbs. Between the two cities lies the plains, where most of the farms that feed the nation are. North of Palais is jungle, in which some other settlements lie, reachable by road, train or river.
