Is There Freedom of Movement & Emigration In YN?

Postby Luminumbra » Sat May 26, 2018 5:47 am

Title Says all. Do your people have the freedom to move around in your country, and/or emigrate?

I'll Start--No. Movement is only allowed for an individual if his/her local spiritual leader approves of it. Spiritual leaders, businessmen and those who have proven themselves the most diehard followers of the state cult have unrestricted movement privileges, though they are just that--privileges. All other residents are essentially in lockdown mode, not able to leave their own planets, and not allowed to leave Luminumbran space without special passes and the approval of their local spiritual leaders. Traders and freighters have relaxed restrictions, and are generally only allowed to travel on their assigned route, they do not have to seek approval of any spiritual leaders, but to work on a freighter does require that approval, which effectively means traders do have and indirect need for permission from spiritual leaders.

Somewhat.

An omnipotent and omnipresent Artificial Intelligence took control of the government and economy, and manages the citizens as though they were yet another natural resource to exploit. Massive economic freedom allows corporations -- which are technically people -- the freedom to move and act as they wish; individuals, however, may find themselves at the whim of a grander plan.

Emigration is illegal. Immigration is allowed, if they are willing to enter the workforce as another cog in our economic machine. Foreigners may enter the country, should they wish, whether for business or pleasure, though they may find themselves scooped up by the secret police.

Theoretically freedom of movement is delineated by property boundaries between territories under autonomous administration of various corporate-regimes that blossomed within the Abode of Peace.

Practically, there is a particular emphasis on freedom of movement, with it being offered as an alternative for individuals wishing to choose favorable methods of governance due to relative lack of universal democratic institutions and civic society participation. Pervasive surveillance and data collection network has permitted freedom for individuals to move between seemingly-borderless territories as long as they are accounted for. Immigrants from outside are also processed with greater efficiency and in larger relative percentage than many other countries, especially in the primate metropoleis which also function as commercial-financial entrepots, although entrance is still under strict control by local authorities.

To a limited extent. Anyone is free to move out of the Confederacy at any time, for any reason. While freedom through open territory is unrestricted, under our constitution's "freedom of association" clause, communities are free to allow or deny entry and/or residence to whomever they see fit. However, citizens are also free to establish themselves in any unclaimed open territory, whether as individuals or collectives.

Our people can and do move around our country freely. Tourists are restricted in where they can go.

Our citizens can leave, but why would you want to? But seriously, every year there are a few kids that reach maturity (or fail to) and decide that they just value different things that we do and choose to join some other country. Some of these aren't even spies or sleeper agents.
We do have a lot of citizens that live as expats, mostly on research missions or as business contacts with the outside world.

Our citizens are free to move within the country, though there are often checkpoints at provincial borders or in some rural counties. These however, are only for the purpose of searching vehicles and passengers for potential contraband or for identifying wanted criminals. For the average law-abiding citizen, no special type of clearance is needed to pass the checkpoint.
Citizens are not allowed to leave the country without permission. Some, who express that they truly feel they cannot live in Laredo, are allowed to defect as a refugee to the United States. But they are never allowed to return, and with the exception of clothing, all of their personal belongings and bank account are to remain in Laredo. Often, their money and property goes to family members who stay in the country. Those who have a criminal record, record of dissident activity, or are in a position that has provided them with access to classified knowledge, are never permitted to leave.

It is uncommon for any foreigner to want to live in Laredo, aside from embassy staff. Aside from diplomatic reasons, anyone wanting to reside in Laredo must become a citizen, as well as renounce their previous citizenship.

Tourists can only view Laredo through guided tours. They must stay at their hotels or with their guides at all times.

Emigration and Immigration are not too particularly common here. In fact, emigration itself is much more rare than immigration, which makes sense considering the country's very-high human development rate. Due to Zhouran's tough "Zhouranese First" immigration policies, an overwhelming majority of people immigrating to Zhouran are people from Zhouranese diasporas, followed by Zhouranese men married to non-Zhouranese women. Freedom of movement exists in the country, and citizens are permitted to travel around Zhouran without restrictions. Tourists are also permitted to travel around the country without restrictions, however it is recommended that they travel in tourist groups and go through guided tours since being a lone foreigner is simply asking for trouble.

Emigration is perfectly fine, Radiatians are welcome to leave if they want (although if they do take on citizenship of another country they will have to renounce their Radiatian citizenship).

There is freedom of movement within Radiatia, however a passport is required in order to cross state borders, and there are border checks between states.

Freedom of movement: Yes. Once you're here (no matter if you are Lillorainian or a foreigner), you can freely go whever you want. (Why on earth should we establish state border controls? That's inefficient.)
Freedom of emigration: Of course! Don't like it here? We're not gonna hold you.
Since Lillorainen's geography is currently being overhauled a 'tiny' bit, most information on it posted before December 12, 2018, is not entirely reliable anymore. Until there's a new, proper factfile, everything you might need to know can be found here. Thank you. #RetconOfDoom (Very late update, 2020/08/30 - it's still going on ...)

To some extent, Philippinaeans have a freedom of movement and emigration, subject to applicable laws. However, those regarded as culturally and politically impure have limited rights to move within or leave the country. Before they can emigrate, they have to undergo sessions of “therapy” consisting of sessions of exposure to sublethal levels of gamma radiation for several months and injection of radioactive chemicals. Only then that they are allowed to leave. This is to ensure that they will develop cancer in a few months so they will not be of any use to our enemies.

Emigration is fairly common for reasons of trade, politics, and science. It is not uncommon for people to work abroad for many years then return. Also, some organizations have permanent foreign offices where people go. People have full freedom of movement except for into military installations or secure government facilities.

All people otherwise not legally restricted from free movement by reason of imprisonment, rehabilitation, or parole terms are free to travel anywhere within the bounds of the Nikopolian Empire and her dependencies.

All foreign nationals with passports and not legally banned from entrance are able to free cross into the Nikopolian Empire, and likewise Nikopolian citizens are allowed to do the same. There are currently no major diplomatic or military conflicts between the Empire and the rest of the human realms on Asnea.

Nikopolian citizens may emigrate to any other human nation provided they abide by international law and the laws of the nation they emigrate to, as well as obtain a notice of emigration from their local administrative council to deregister from the electoral lists (as only permanent residents, whether citizens or not, are not allowed to vote in any local or federal elections).

The only restrictions are for travellers to and from the dunkairu realms, specifically the Union of Asalien and Gaedrea. To travel to the southern continents, you must obtain permission from the federal government, as well as not be on any watchlists to ensure smooth diplomatic proceedings with and modernisation of the dunkairu peoples. Likewise, anyone returning must notify the embassy in Llynotan, and any dunkairu wishing to visit the human realms must do likewise. All travel between the human and dunkairu realms must occur from Llynotan or Baedagrau to the Capital District Territory and vice versa, regardless of the origin, species, and nationality of the traveller, not that it is possible to do so any other way anyway as Llynotan and Baedagrau are the only non-human settlements with airports and are both heavily guarded by Nikopolian troops.

Freedom of Movement: Of course. We have no reason to restrict it. We live on a small Island anyway, and many people live in one district and work in another. Restricting freedom of Movement would really hurt us and cripple our tourism-based economy.

Emigration- Not common, but allowed. We won't force you to stay here.

Yes, it is legal for Subhurbians to move around to any region they want, though most don’t do it because each region speaks a different language. Subhurbians do emigrate from their country and they often emigrate to developed countries. They often become extremely accustomed to the country they move to, oftentimes abandoning their culture, religion, language, and traditions. Even those who emigrate to second and third world countries want to be apart of that country.

We have extremely strong freedom of movement protections. A constitutional amendment gives everyone the right to immigrate, emigrate, or move anywhere within the Empire. The right of free movement applies to any sapient being that is not currently in prison.

The average Vyzhvan citizen does not enjoy freedom of movement. Any form of emigration is strictly prohibited and most Vyzhvans are not even allowed to travel beyond their administrative district. The only people granted freedom of movement are military and government officials, who may travel abroad should the need arise. Engineers are permitted to travel between administrative districts but that’s how far as their freedom of movement goes.

Due to these heavy regulations on freedom of movement, Vyzhva has, time upon time, been denounced by the international community.

Both emigration and freedom of movement are supported in our laws, to the point that it is recognised as a basic right in the constitution.

However, these rights may be taken away in cases where it benefits national security, such as people leaving who have worked on need-to-know basis government projects.
