Types of police

Postby Agarntrop » Mon May 21, 2018 10:16 am

List the types of police in your nation.

• Community police which normally handle petty crimes and non crime police duties in Agarntrop and carry no weapons other than a truenchon.
•Normal police in Agarntrop carry a pistol and taser and are the most common police in Agarntrop.
•Armed police are generally involved in drug raids and carry an assault rifle but don't usually have helmets or riot gear.
•SWAT police are for terrorist situations and riots and hold all the usual riot gear and an assault rifle.
•Millitary police are for warzone police patrol and terrorist situations and have a normal millitary uniform but police training.
•Elite police are a special police division with ASAS (Agarntrop special armed services) training and are heavily armed and rare.

Normal police(City Police except detectives): patrol the streets, investigate simple thefts and simple fights, prevent gang violence carried out with a Colt or less dangerous weapon, arrest people for inciting racial hatred, protect property and public safety, respond to any crime occurring during their patrol, arrest burglars and armed robbers.
nation.
Special Weapons And Tactics police: arresting and if neccessary shooting terrorists, rogue Mafioso(our system reluctantly allows mafioso similar to how Japan traditionally allows the Yakuza, to keep the worse criminals out), hostage rescue, storming brothels and arresting pimps,
arresting arms traffickers, stopping riots in extreme cases
Military police: deal with crimes in our millitary an foreign war criminals.the ones in the army are simply called "millitary police" with army and navy police also allowed.
Federal Criminal Investigation Department: investigated the things Special Weapons and Tactics arrests(Except they also investigate CSE)
Religious community police: religious communities may have their own legal system.
These mostly enforce their own laws against alcohol(if the religion has them),marijuana(if the religion has them),keep the peace in their community and enforce the orders of religious courts.
Tribal police: deal with cases between tribes on the tribes traditional land.
They are regulated by the government and mostly enforce the state law but in line with
Tribal priorities for example millitary tribes priorise treason and evasion of millitary service and all tribes prioritise abuse of women, terrorism, adultery and breaches of the peace . Registered Muslim tribes must use sharia law in the tribal courts for their Muslims.

Lillorainen has two types of police - the Federal Police and the State Police. The former is paramilitary, while the latter is civil ... - mah, ya' know, I'm just gonna quote myself.

Lillorainen wrote:Lillorainen has two types of police - the Federal Police and the State Police. The former is paramilitary, while the latter is civil.

The Federal Police (Bundespolizei, BP) has following duties:

  • Border protection (by sea and by air)
  • Civil Protection & Disaster Control
  • Counter-terrorism & counter-intelligence
  • Military Police
  • national-relevance crimes
  • Railway Police & River Police (cooperating with the local civil police)
  • Supporting the State Police forces in case of a need

The State Police, as the name suggests, is civil police managed by the state governments. They are the local law enforcement units dealing with everything ranging from the guy stealing a chocolate bar in the supermarket to the guy trying to blow the supermarket up.

The organization heavily varies from state to state - for example, states that were heavily affected by the 1970s Unification War often have separate bomb disposal units, while others need the support of the Federal Police in case UXO is found there. Some states try to show a sufficient police presence to ensure a feeling of safety, while others don't (especially when they lack of funding). Three states also maintain Municipal Police forces. Seven states as well as the Federal Police also have Mounted Police units.
While all sirens sound equal (basically like the one in Austria), the vehicles look very different from state to state. Also, since 2006, states issue their own license plate systems for police vehicles (while there is one national system for civil plates).
Since Lillorainen's geography is currently being overhauled a 'tiny' bit, most information on it posted before December 12, 2018, is not entirely reliable anymore. Until there's a new, proper factfile, everything you might need to know can be found here. Thank you. #RetconOfDoom (Very late update, 2020/08/30 - it's still going on ...)

We find the differentiation here between "normal" police and armed police to be amusing. In many countries, we daresay perhaps even in the majority, the "normal" police carry arms.

Bereia has all but the second, as the nature of law enforcement makes the carrying of arms sensible at all levels, even for local agencies. Cities large enough to do so will always maintain some kind of a police department, even if it is only a handful of sworn officers, and Counties/Parrishes have their Sheriffs & co. for the same purpose.

Beyond that, each State maintains their own police, most commonly known by such names as the State Troopers, the Highway Patrol, and others.

Beyond that, the U.S. Federal Government does maintain some law enforcement, though not as much as many contemporary national governments. Most famous are the U.S. Marshals, whose main legal mandate is to serve as the enforcement arm of the U.S. Federal Courts, though they report to the Attorney-General to ensure effective checks and balances.

Nearly all law enforcement officers in the U.S.B. carry arms in the daily exercise of their duties.

The Royal Cantonese Police Force (RCPF) is the main police force in British Guangzhou, and by far the most important and largest. The force handles everything from traffic and parking enforcement (through it's Traffic Enforcement Division) to organised crime, cyber crime, and the force even works with organisations like the FBI and Interpol when needed to combat international crime that involves Guangzhou and Cantonese citizens.

In Saint-Foret, law enforcement is decentralized and maintained at the municipal or cantonal level. Forces range in size from a handful of part-time volunteers to large forces of hundreds of professional agents.

Note that "Police" is not a universal term here; "Sûreté" (Security), "Gendarmerie" (Constabulary), and "Garde" (Guard / Watch), and are all seen in various jurisdictions to refer to the police. This is usually based on local tradition and customs, or simply a compelling desire to be different from the neighbors.

Municipal police forces answer to the mayor or administrator of their jurisdiction; cantonal police answer to the cantonal governor.

Municipalities and cantons have significant freedom in how they equip and structure their forces -- uniforms, vehicles, ranks and equipment vary widely. However, all police agents must be armed with a firearm, by national mandate. Each municipality or canton is financially and legally responsible for supplying agents with a sufficient sidearm and ammunition for their duties.

There are usually two types of police: the armed imperial gendarme and unarmed state police. The Imperial and Royal Police is a militarized gendarme force that generally protects military installations, federal government buildings, and airports.

Local police exist in some big cities as contingents of the State Police Force or are the same in the case of the city states.

All are civilian, as the Imperial Police are under direct subordination of the Imperial Ministry of the Interior, the civil federal government.

In terms of uniforms: states can adopt what they want, but most stay consistent with the federal standard, which still maintains their green uniforms.

We have essentially three types of police:

1. Auxilliary Police, who are issued with a hat and/or T-shirt that says "Police". They are unpaid and they serve whenever it's convenient for them. Their main duties consist of directing traffic and giving directions to the nearest whaling museum. They are not armed.

2. Police, who are issued with a hat and/or T-shirt that says "police". They are paid and they serve regular shifts. Their main duties consist of directing traffic and giving directions to the nearest whaling museum. They are not armed.

3 Flying Squads, who usually serve in plain clothes - e.g Hawaiian shirts or tie-dye T-shirts, which are considered "plain" in Fatatatutti. They are paid and serve regular shifts but they tend to do a lot of overtime without extra pay. Their main duties consist of tracking down tourists who have lost track of time and forgotten to go home. They are the only police who have transportation - usually a circa-1960 Fiat 500 complete with a sign that says "Police Business - Please Do Not Borrow". They are also the only police who have access to weapons, anything from side-arms to assault rifles to grenade launchers to CS gas, etc. Anything the Flying Squads can not handle is passed on to the Army. (By the way, "flying" refers to speed, not actual flying.)

There are four distinct peacekeeping authorities in the Confederacy:

The Liberty Guard: A local militia that grew to prominence in the Midwest by protecting the property of individuals among their communities, operating under a libertarian ideology within it's controlled territory.

The Silver Wolves: A local militia that grew to prominence in the Midwest by rallying individuals of Nordic and Germanic ancestry to create a new state and restore order to their society.

Independent Local Militias: Militias formed by citizens of various small towns and settlements which did not join any major political faction, but fought alongside them or relied on their protection nonetheless, and serve the Confederacy as such.

The Northern Patrol: The border guard of the Confederacy, which generally recruits from the citizens and militias of border towns. This is maintained through a combination of taxes from wealthier trade cities and volunteers from smaller settlements.

Policing is handled by the Litan military, specifically it's own branch called civil Protection.

- Patrol officers fill the roles and duties of normal officers as well as detectives.
- The coast guard handles all forms of maritime policing ranging from enforcing fishing laws to anti piracy operations
- Air patrol handles all aerial operations and operates the helicopters and airplanes of civil protection.
- The federal police act as a combination of the US marshal service and the Mexican Policía Federale. High risk warrants as well as policing extremely dangerous areas of the Imperium.
- The TIR (Tactical Intervention Team) performs the duties befitting that of a SWAT unit or other tactical response units
- The CAT (Counter Assault Team) act as the primary counter terrorism unit in the Imperium.

Egyptian Police Force: Control all crime in Egypt, with a specific precinct for murder and other more dangerous crimes. Despite the name, they also operate in Greece.
Greek Police: Due to the fact that they are based mainly on islands, the Greek Police handle outside threats and border control for Greece and Egypt. Spies also come from this area.

In Sadakoyama we don't have any institution that would correlate to the "police" forces of other nations. Individual karass often have members that act as security personnel, but this is rarely a formal or permanent position; however many members are needed for a specific task are enlisted from among their capable people.

Our lack of police puzzles some of our out of town visitors; our typical glib reply is "we police ourselves"; and indeed, sometimes it can be observed that by naive guests that a group of Sadakhan will abruptly surround, then sometimes whisk away someone causing a disturbance. This seems to visitors from less enlightened lands to be some sort of arrest by "secret police", but this is not the case.

The concept of "we police ourselves" goes far beyond simply apprehending rule-breakers; from a very early age it is ingrained upon each Sadakhan that they are individually responsible for the collective safety and well-being of the nation- and this includes its people. Mandatory military training instills discipline and furthers a citizen's sense of community as well as providing a plethora of useful skill sets including first aid and self defense. The Sadakhan concept of social responsibility extends far beyond futilely enforcing order (which anyone who has experienced the raw and unbridled chaos of Academy City can attest), but rather is focused on the physical and psychological well being of each other person as well as one's self. This idea hearkens back to the very earliest days of our culture as a shipwrecked colony on a strange and deadly new shore, and it has provided for our past and current survival admirably. This training not only provides a sense of community , it also includes over ten years of psychological education and counseling that it helps ensure that crime is rare among Sadakhan, and also that in times of trouble, our citizens are immune to the so-called "bystander effect" and are willing and able to lend a hand, coordinating to provide whatever aid is needed and will best serve. Indeed, most of those "apprehended are instead victims of accident or illness taken for medical treatment.

Aldina's police forces are primarily divided into standard civilian police (state, provincial, and metropolitan police, more or less) and the Imperial Gendarmerie (the Empire's military police arm). The former shoulder most of the burden of day-to-day law enforcement; regular "beat cops" typically aren't armed beyond their truncheons, though other equipment may be issued depending on the situation (such as the stereotypical pickaxe handle and metal shield for riot control).

The Gendarmerie, however, are a wholly different beast. As they are considered a branch of the Imperial armed forces, they have access to military equipment such as submachine guns and armored cars in addition to more typical police equipment. They are responsible for pursuing crimes against the state as well as enforcing military justice, maintaining order in Imperial provinces, and, during wartime, handling political crimes. They also include the Imperial Coast Guard, responsible for enforcing Imperial maritime security and carrying out seaborne search-and-rescue operations. Individual Gendarmes are almost always armed with pistols and truncheons at minimum when "on the beat", and they undergo similar training to the Imperial Army.

We have a form of policing that is not directly tied to prisons. There are basically three types of policings.

1) The Department of Mental Hygiene Maintains Community Security Officers whose job it is to prevent and capture crimes of aggression and madness. This usually involves mandatory therapy, home arrest, and community service in varying degrees. This department does not use deadly force, although it has access to a variety of nonlethal weapons, pharmaceuticals, and a variety of restraints.

2) The Department For an Orderly Society maintains order. They are primarily concerned with property crimes and damage to property. They can determine if a person is not working and assign them to projects like road building, exile to outlying communities. payment for damage to property. They direct traffic, and set rules.

3) The Special Services unit is armed. They deal with offenses dealing with robbery, murder, serial killers, and other exceptional crimes. They can exile people, assign them to special work details and similar things. There are special units which deal with rioting, zombies, and similar crimes.

Municipality Police - Enforce community level ordinances, write traffic tickets, and are responsible for carrying out law enforcement in their city or town.

District Police - Enforce district level laws and ordinances, write traffic tickets, and are responsible for carrying out law enforcement in their district and communities in their district.

Federal Police - Enforce federal laws and investigate federal crimes. Divided up into various branches.

-Serial Crime Federal Taskforce (SCFT): Investigate and make arrests in serious serial crimes (non-terrorist bombings, arson, murder, rape, etc.).
-White Collar Federal Taskforce (WCFT): Investigate and make arrests in white collar crimes (money laundering, tax evasion, fraud, extortion, etc.).
-Black Market Federal Taskforce (BMFT): Investigate and make arrests in black market related crimes (arms dealing, contraband, slave trade, etc.).
-Federal Reserve Taskforce (FRT): Aid local and district police when needed.
-Federal Corruption Taskforce (FCT): Investigate and make arrests crimes that involve political corruption laws (treason, taking bribes from foreign country, sharing national secrets with enemy states, etc.).
-Federal Terrorism Taskforce (FTT): Investigate and make arrests in terrorism related crimes (terrorist related bombings, religious terrorism, political terrorism, racial hate based terrorism, etc.).
-Federal Wildlife Reserve Taskforce (FWRT): Patrol National Wildlife Reserves, enforce laws on Wildlife Reserve land, coordinate search and rescue operations and investigate crimes involving the National Wildlife Reserves (poaching, destroying wildlife and plant life, dumping garbage, wildfire related arson, etc.).
-Federal Environmental Taskforce (FET): Investigate crimes related to environmental protection (illegal dumping of chemicals into a water source, illegal logging, etc.).
-Immigration Police Taskforce (IPT): Investigate crimes against or involving foreigners/immigrants. They oversee the extradition of foreign criminals and the deportation of illegal immigrants. Responsible for border patrol and security.
-Code Red Taskforce (CRT): Used in times of serious emergencies involving potentially high casualties (violent spree crimes) to contain the situation. Once the situation is contained, another taskforce will take charge in investigating and making any further arrests.

Each taskforce has a Taskforce Director who decides whether or not to send a team from their taskforce.

Taskforces may work together when crimes overlap.

Military Police - Enforce federal laws and military laws on military and naval bases.

Lower level police may request help any time from a higher level police force. Federal police will take jurisdiction over a case if municipality or district police fail to investigate or solve a crime. The Federal Justice and Law Enforcement Council make the final decision on who gets jurisdiction in a federal case (whether it be municipality police, district police or one or more of the federal taskforces). The Federal Justice and Law Enforcement Council can also override a Taskforce Director and put or pull a federal taskforce team in/from the field.

There are currently four types of police in Brystolville:

Commune Police - Hired and paid by communes outside of Greater Brystolville, these police can only operate within the boundaries of the commune that employs them. They are not armed. Although employed and commanded locally, commune police are regulated by Parliament and must meet national standards for qualification and training. They do not have any specialised divisions or task forces, and must rely on higher-level police for matters such as forensics, special weapons/tactics, and police aviation.

Provincial Police - Hired and paid for by county councils outside of Greater Brystolville. The Provincial Police exist primarily to patrol roadways and to handle crimes that stretch across multiple communes. They also provide specialised support to commune police. They are sometimes armed with non-lethal weapons, except for SWAT teams.

Metropolitan Police - Hired by the Ministry for Brystolville & Metropolitan Affairs and paid by the central government to police Greater Brystolville and many of its suburbs and satellite cities. These police are usually armed with non-lethal weapons except when firearms are needed. The Metropolitan Police Department has a number of specialised divisions and task forces dedicated to matters ranging from organised crime and counterterrorism to parking enforcement. The MPD is the largest police force in the country by manpower and expenditure, and is responsible for policing a larger area and population (~55% of the total national population) than any other sub-national police force.

National Police - Hired by the Ministry of Public Safety and paid by the central government to conduct high-priority police actions of national importance or in the national interest. These police can operate anywhere in the country except for Parliament House and its grounds, which are protected by the Parliamentary Protective Service. National Police are routinely armed with firearms.

Many MPs believe it is time to do away with these different types of police and replace them with a single, unified police force to serve the whole country, saying that local councils of individual communes are not capable of holding the police accountable and preventing violations of human rights.
