1. The Operator of the Ten 0 is technically a child soldier who was forcefully conscripted to fight in a cataclysmic war... He's technically still a soldier now, long after those who conscripted him have been wiped out. He's one of the ones who wiped them out after all.

2. IRL, conscription is a tool for the desperate. War, and fighting in a war should only be done by those who are fully informed of, aware of, and willing to face the rigors and consequences that come from war. An unwilling soldier is unfit for such a thing.

European Males between 18 and 32 are registered as part of the Island Reserve Force and are required to spend a weekend every 2 months training and undergo a physical and mental health examination for ratings every year. The healthiest quintile of the reserves are subject to peacetime draft into an active duty of 30 months (2 and a half years) should the government choose to hold one, and the healthiest 3 quintiles may be drafted in times of formally declared war. So far, the state has never needed to draft past the highest quintile, even in formal war. This is partially due to the ease of raising Askari units

OOC: Selective conscription is acceptable in major foreign wars. Extensive conscription is acceptable under threat of invasion.

Dhaall has a universal conscription, all boys and girls from the age of 17 are called to muster for military or civilian defence service, after that you het assigned to armed forces or civilian defence. Between 1-3 years service, beside the smaller professional AF/ CD.

Military service is extremely popular in Zhouran. Technically, military service with the Zhouranese People's Army is obligatory for all Zhouranese citizens. However, in practice, it is entirely voluntary; due to the popularity of military service and the large number of individuals who volunteer to join. Any males and females of 18-22 years of age can register themselves with the government authorities. Conscription has only existed in theory since the establishment of the People's Republic of Zhouran in 1956. Technically, those who have registered themselves enter selective compulsory military service, with a 36-month service obligation. Military service is performed in the regular armed forces. Due to the extreme popularity of military service, it is difficult to join the military. Each year, an average of around 14 - 18 million people would sign up to join the ZPA, but only around a few million would successfully join.

Military service is compulsory for both males and females either when they reach the age of 18 or finish secondary school. The draft runs for a 2 year period, after that the conscript is free to leave military service, but they remain on the reserve, or continue in active duty service.

Military service is mandatory and all citizens male and female are conscripted from birth despite any disabilities. Once they are of the age of 4, they can (and will) fight on the battlefield. Even though everyone is conscripted not everyone is active at once, combatants cycle in and out randomly as it is necessary for there to still be available citizens to actually run the economy.

1: Conscription exists, at the age of 18 males serve for 18 months in the Ground Forces and if their father is deceased prior the age of 18, they serve for 12 months. Now in the Navy and the Planetary Guard males serve for 14 months. Females may be conscripted and may voluntarily attend bootcamp. It is kind of obsolete cause we have a 22.8 trillion population (NS pop is not used, it makes no sense to have 324 million people and occupy a quadrant).

2:Conscription is necessary in areas that are volatile (example the Balkans or the Middle East). It also serves as a way to meet new people and probably make new friends cause you spend a number of days/months with them.

[The Northeastern Confederation]

In the Northeastern Confederation every citizen over 18 years, with no disability, old has to serve a minimum of 2 years in the Confederate Armed Forces. They might stay after if they want to follow military career or leave and stay as manpower reserve. The priorities of conscription is to build a huge trained manpower reserve in case of any massive scale war, as well as deterring any regional powers of invading the country.

The conscription has the side job of being a societal cohesion factor, since it brings several people from several different parts of the country toghether to know and understand eachother. This is a huge deal since the city-states stayed centuries with local identities instead of a broad, national one.

Also, in the army the conscripts have several courses and learn several different professions, even giving to some scholarships, which facilitates their insertion in the job market and raises the floor for overall productivity.
