Teacher throws himself on car of line cutting parent

Postby The Lone Alliance » Sun May 13, 2018 8:55 pm

SUGAR LAND , TX (CNN) - A Houston area mother is outraged after a teacher jumped on the hood of her car as she attempted to drive through a blocked off entrance.

However, a group of parents are standing behind the educator, saying he was only trying to protect the students.

Cellphone video shows Dulles Elementary School teacher trying to keep a parent from driving through a closed entrance during a school drop off on Wednesday morning.

Witness Destiny Ray say she and her mother were running late for the STAAR test at the time of the incident.

She says her mom was trying to drive around the cones of the blocked off entrance but her mother became furious after the teacher crawled on and off the hood of the car.

Ray says the teacher did not think about the consequences of what he was doing.

Her mother made a complaint to the Fort Bend School District.

Parents who support the teacher’s actions have created a petition online that says, “We ask that no adverse action be taken against this teacher. He clearly was driven out of concern and protection for our children.”

Local resident Deron Herrington is among those supporting the educator.
Herrington says the school has had a number of safety issues and the teacher has always worked to make sure the school is safer.

So I only heard about this through my educator friends but to me this is a pretty bad story, a parent decides that, because she's running late, that she's allowed to drive around several barriers and teachers ordering her not to in order to drop off her students. She ignores the first teacher waving her away and keeps on going, when the next teacher spots her he decides to be a little more direct, while her daughter records the whole event, the teacher jumps on top of the car and proceeds to try to order her to turn back, the parent, instead of stopping, decides to keep on driving while yelling and ranting at the teacher while her daughter records the whole thing.

And then she has the gall to go on the news and act like she was in the right and he was in the wrong and demanding that he be punished.

To me this seems to be an open and shut case of an entitled parent thinking the rules don't apply to her, but it seems the media thinks otherwise. what say you NSG, I know there's some educators here, in this era where people have decided to use Vehicles as a device of mass murder, is it to the point where teachers are expected to throw themselves on cars to stop them, do you think she would have done this action if it was a cop there instead of a teacher, or would she have kept driving and possibly run over a cop because her running late is more important than everyone else?

Could the teacher have done something different, should he be punished, should she be punished?

I wonder how much those one-way only spike strips cost to install, anyway? To Google! .... Well, a quick search for "one way traffic spikes" puts them about $600 on the low end, not as bad as I might have figured.

But yeah. Teacher was certainly reckless if well-meaning. Their behavior could well have escalated the situation further and resulted in serious injury. But momma was stupid crazy entitled and that entrance was blocked for a reason (I'm guessing one-way traffic flow to keep drop-off traffic moving smoothly,) and her trying to go past the blocked entrance like that endangered herself, her kid, and everyone around her.

I hope the teacher is let off with at most a scolding about how dangerous that was, and that they throw the book at the mother.

Yeah they're going to need something now because clearly two teacher and a bunch of road barriers isn't good enough for people who think the rules don't apply to them.

I really hope the worst the teacher gets is a scolding, what's sad is it looks like the parent is getting away with it, she should at least get some sort of citation.

If only the teacher had had a gun, this tragedy could have been averted.

A security camera video (or at least a general-angled video) would have been more helpful than the daughter's video, but I'm guessing no other videos exist.

Legally, if person/property were not at foreseeable risk from the driver's actions, I could see the educator held responsible (civilly) for any damages/dents to the vehicle.

Saying that, the mother should face reckless endangerment, and she should be advised of criminal trespass from the school.

Damn. Props to that teacher, can’t say I’d ever throw myself on the hood of a car just to stop someone going in the exit.

But then I’m British. Convention round here is just to tut loudly.

What ever the situation I can newer condone throwing one self on top of a moving vehicle. That's just lunacy.

It's just sad that it had to come to this because your state is not vigilant or empowered enough to enforce road restrictions properly. If it was up to me I'd just make it law that if you try and drive into a restricted area or closed off route that's it, no more driving for you ever. Permanent drivers license ban on the spot. But I doubt even that would help unless modern nations actually start caring about enforcement.

Being late doesn't give you a right to go to a blocked off entrance. It's blocked off for a reason.

That being said, why did this guy jump on the roof of the car? What would that do?

Quite right, although surely it would have been more effective to simply stand in front of the car?

Oh, if only we made such a hubbub about cutting lines in traffic in Turkey, enough to warrant an NSG thread.

If only.

Didn't you guys have a literal plain crash due to that sort of behavior? I didn't read the whole article but like it's on yahoo news.

Why should they? It's the motorist's fault the vehicle was damaged.

The motorist could've killed someone. She needs to be put away for a long time.

The first teacher tried that, the parent literally just backed up and drove around them before they could move again. I'm guessing the second teacher was just desperate or outraged that she was disobeying so openly.

It is stupid to jump on someone's car as they might accidently or deliberately run you over, plus the ones who deserve it are the most likely to run you over or get out of the car and beat you up.
