Erich Kurov steps to the podium, using a cane. Johannes proudly steps down. "Citizens of the greater good, this will be my last year as your leader." The crowd voices their disappointment. Kurov has been a great leader. "However, I will hold an election to elect the next chancellor. For we need a great man for an unstable ergatrocracy. We need someone to put the 'gat' in ERGATOCRACY! Or was it the 'erg?'" He coughs. 'Anyway. The war is over, fellow citizens, and I will make my last few decisions as your leader. May I suggest someone to replace me? I recommend a person." The crowd cheers loudly. Kurov bows.

[South Acren]

President Eisenhower looks at the news. "Hmm. All of our allies are ordering a cease fire maybe I shou-" He is interrupted by a thunderous roar that shakes the office and is also felt in many countries away. "WHAT THE HE-Oh no...I forgot about the cannon" Eisenhower groans. The shell flies through the air and above Ruso-Germany splits into ten smaller shells and hits ten war production factories and causes massive destruction all over the country. Back South Acren Eisenhower prepares for the scolding that's coming from the allied leaders. "What do I tell them? I forgot about it. Hmm...I'll send a message to Ruso-Germany that we are extremely sorry about the destruction and we are willing to pay for 2/3 of the damages and we are prepared to send resources to help repair the factories that were destroyed but first I need to make sure that no more shells are fired. General Patton! Cancel the next firing!" The General respond "Yes sir." Eisenhower breaths a sigh of relief " Good I will announce that we are ordering a cease fire until further notice."

EPILOGUE

The Third Great Summit of the Third Great War quickly became a simple exchange of cease-fire agreements between and among the major actors. Every enemy had been either beaten back or talked down. It was a time to end hostilities, and to that end, a final treaty was drafted and ratified. Chancellor Davis made a show of being the last to sign the agreement, but not because of any reluctance to embrace peace. Far from it! No, he was seeking a chance for an audience.

He walked up to the podium and picked up a pen. There was a brief scritch-scratching as he signed, then a soft but noticeable "clack" as he set the pen down. He looked up, and spoke, "And with that, the Free World Alliance is victorious!"

There was a fairly vigorous round of applause, but not a thunderous one. There was a certain measure of confusion; what was the point of this grandstanding? Those in the room who had interacted with the Chancellor diplomatically - Ikenna Williams among them - became a little tense, for they knew there was a sucker-punch coming.

After a couple of seconds, the applause was over, and the Chancellor spoke again. "As such, I declare the Alliance dissolved!"

There were audible gasps throughout the room. A wave of none-too-subtle murmurs began to swell, and carried with it several loud objections.

The Chancellor held up his hands. "Order, please. Give me a moment, and you will understand." Slowly, the commotion subsided.

"Thank you," said Chancellor Davis. He cleared his throat, and continued where he had left off, "Consider, my fellow heads of state, what an ally is by nature. An ally is one who stands firm by your side in the face of a grave threat. An alliance is a thing shaped and held together by war, and thus is forever tainted by the looming shadow of bloodshed.

"In itself, an alliance is merely a pact to shed the blood of a common enemy. Against a truly unjust and cruel foe, such a pact is not an evil thing. But it can never be good in itself. The Free World Alliance was a good and necessary thing while the war lasted, but no longer are we threatened by Andromedan invaders. No longer are we threatened by sedition and rebellion at home. No longer are we threatened by the enemies who live on our borders.

"Today, we have no need of an alliance, for we have something better: Peace. Today, Greater Catarapania is no longer your ally, for it has become something better: a Friend. The fog of the Third Great War has lifted, my friends. The light of Peace has dawned! Long may it reign!"

The room erupted into thunderous applause, as every man and woman at the summit rose to their feet. Kaolin Krai's voice boomed throughout the hall as he lifted a glass of liquor to the sky, "TO PEACE!"

Not one voice was silent; every one echoed back in reply. "TO PEACE!"

Thus ended the Third Great War between Nations. Not with the total subjection of the losing side to a condition of helplessness and impotence. Nor with the thunder and slaughter of some great superweapon, leaving future generations to cower in its shadow. Nor even with the uneasy and temporary stillness enemies staring at one another across no man's land. No, the Third Great War ended with Axis and Ally eagerly laying down their arms, and celebrating together the beginning of a new chapter in the history of the world: a chapter of peace.
