I will constantly update this so if you are offline for an extended period of time, check this to get the gist of what happened first.

January 1909

Jan. 2 - France and Hesse-Kassel sign a nonaggression pact

Jan. 7 - Romania declares war on Bulgaria

Jan. 11 - Bulgaria enters into a military alliance with Belarus and Belorussia

Jan. 15 - Romania approves a non-aggression pact with Oceania Colonies

Jan. 20 - Bulgarian town of Bansko is seized by the Romanian Army

Feb. 3 - Oceania Colonies attacks the Coastal Forts of Belarus.

[Infernian Colonies]

Navy Yards in Newhaven, British Isles - Jan. 9, 1909

The vast Infernian navy was preparing to move out into the English Channel. The 1st Fleet was nearly ready to move and the 2nd and 3rd had just begun the deployment processes, which took a few hours at most.

Fleet Admiral Zachary Phillips stood by the port and observed his men setting sail.

He discussed naval strategy with his fellow admirals on the docks.

"Admiral Phillips, we need to deploy the fleet around the Isles in a defensive formation. We have no allies on the mainland so we should stay out of any conflict that erupts."

Admiral Phillips stopped, turned around, and gave his answer.

"You are only partially correct. Yes, we have no allies on the mainland. But that does not give us an excuse to isolate ourselves. We shall fight with our allies, if necessary."

"But sir, you can't possibly think of spilling our soldier's blood on the mainland?"

"I can and I will, but only in support of our allies. Nothing you say will carry any weight with me. My mind is made."

He turned to another admiral.

"Tell the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Fleets to deploy in defense of our Channel coastline. Order the 4th Fleet to rendezvous with the Oceanic fleets near Iceland."

"What of the 5th Fleet?"

"Inform them to wait in the port, I will be taking personal command of the 5th."

"Right away sir!"

Orders were issued and by the end of the day, all fleets were en route to their positions. The Infernian defense web was in place.

[Belarus and Belorussia]

Belarusian troops have begun mobilization.

The navy is deploying in the Dardanelles Strait to prevent a foreign invasion up through the strait.

With the declaration of war against Bulgaria from Romania, and understanding Bulgaria is a huge underdog in this Balkan conflict, we have moved the 1st Division, (only fully mobilized division) into position on the Bulgarian border, ready to help the Bulgar defense, if need be.


General Tito Ivanov has reported with the 1st. General Ivanov is a military genius concerning urban warfare, and will not allow Bulgaria to fall to the Romanian imperialists.

Diplomacy RP:


Denis Kanter, Belarusian ambassador to Bulgaria, arrived in the meeting room right on time.

The Bulgarian ambassadors were already seated.

Kanter sat down, took a deep breath, and spoke in Bulgarian.

(translated)

"Gentlemen, I have been ordered by my government to offer you the following. First, an active military alliance between our nations. Second, military access to allow our 1st Division to aid in your defense if Romania attacks. We will not move past your borders unless you are attacked."

"Is that all."

"Yes, that is all I am permitted to say."

"Allow us some time to confer with our superiors."

Kanter walked out of the room, sweating profusely. This deal was everything for him. If it fell through, he would most likely be fired. If it succeeded, possibly a promotion. He continued to walk down the hallway, until he reached the lobby of the Embassy.

Belarusian Embassy, Sofia, Bulgaria

Bulgarian ambassadors emerged into the new meeting room.

Denis Kanter was drenched in sweat, and visibly nervous.

(translated from Bulgarian)

"Mr. Kanter, we have reviewed your offers with our superiors and we have reached a decision. Bulgaria happily accepts both your offers and looks forward to a mutually benefiting relationship in the future. But for now, we will settle with destroying the Romanian attacks."

Kanter shook hands with the head Bulgar diplomat, and briskly walked into his embassy office.

Once in the office he sent a telegram to his superiors

[Hesse-Kassel]

Kasselian troops have begun mobilization in preparation for a conflict erupting.

Out of our 14 field divisions(25,000 men per division), 4 divisions have deployed on the Tyrannian border, with more to arrive soon.

3 more divisions have moved south to the long Romanian border, protecting the interests of Belarus's ally Bulgaria.

Another division is approaching the border with the United Low Countries, in the northwest.

The last of the divisions that have deployed, 3 more, are at the Sylvanian border, in case of a dual strike by Tyrannis and Sylvania.

2 Kasselian fleets have completely deployed on the Danish coastline. The remainder are mustering seamen as quickly as possible. By the end of this day, the whole army will be mobilized, and most of the navy.

[Oceania Colonies]

The Oceanic Fleets have set out from their Icelandic ports.

Admiral Grant Moore was in the lead ship.

"Sir, we've sighted a possible enemy fleet."

"Ready the guns!"

The guns on the ships were frantically brought into firing positions.

Admiral Moore peered through his binoculars. He found Infernian flags flying on the ships.

"Hold your fire!"

The guns halted instantly. The Infernian ships swung into the Oceanic formation and continued on without missing a beat.

Within a few hours, the fleets would be reaching the British Isles.

A bridge officer approached the admiral.

"Admiral Moore, an important message from the Naval Command."

The admiral turned and replied.

"I'll take it now if you don't mind."

"Here it is sir."

Admiral Moore grabbed the telegram and quickly read it.

He grabbed another officer.

"Inform the captain of every ship of our new destination. Secrecy is of the utmost importance."

The admiral turned around and began the walk back to his office

Sofia was in sight.


Soon, Belarusian military units would be deployed in protection of the city, with more on the way.

The Battle for Bansko

---

Bulgarian border, Jan. 20, 1909

Romanian infantry cautiously crept across the border into Bulgaria. They went undetected as they slipped through a gap in the Bulgarian perimeter. As the advance units reached the outskirts of a town called Bansko, they took up positions behind the outlying buildings, and waited.

After a few minutes, Romanian heavy artillery opened up. Several barrages slammed into nearby border posts, completely decimating the defensive capabilities of the fortifications. The garrison inside Bansko began to flood out of their barracks, taking up defensive positions. Romanian troops began firing into the city towards them.

Several dropped dead. They were the first deaths in this conflict.

Bulgarian troops returned fire, but the Romanian troops dropped back behind cover.

Fire was exchanged for several minutes, with neither side gaining a distinct advantage. Finally, a Romanian motorized division began to arrive with an armored car for support.

The Bulgarian troops were entirely committed against the Romanian infantry, and turned to meet the reinforcements late.

It would be their undoing.

The motorized infantry quickly plunged into the town. From there, infantry unloaded from their transport trucks and began to systematically direct their fire towards the exposed Bulgarian positions. As the stalemate again started to set in, the Romanian armored car drove forward, directly into the fortifications. On the way, its mounted Maxim gun stitched up several barricades, and it drove over a few more before it was finally disabled by a grenade.

However, this incursion provided the breach the Romanians needed. The reinforcements charged forward.

But they miscalculated. A few Maxim guns were still operational in the earthen fortifications. As they opened up, the charging troops were driven into alleyways or side streets, and those not quick enough were cut down.

During this fateful charge, the original group of infantry had been creeping towards the last Bulgarian defenses. Once into range, they hurled grenades, which devastated the remaining barricades.

WIth the defenses destroyed, the combat became hand-to-hand as the charge resumed. No quarter was given, and the brutal fight took its toll on both sides.

At last, the remaining Bulgarian troops were overpowered. The survivors laid down their weapons and surrendered.

The Romanians began to move reinforcements into the town.

[Belarus and Belorussia]

The 1st Division has completely deployed in the defense of Bulgaria.

10,000 men support the Bulgar defense of Sofia.

10,000 men have moved to supplement the city of Varna.

5,000 men are deployed in and around Plovdiv, in fortifications called "The Earthen Citadel."

Another 5,000 are en route to the town of Nesebar.

10,000 have moved to the population center of Stara Zagora, and the remaining 10,000 are joining up with the Bulgarian Army to meet the invading Romanians at Bansko.

[Oceania Colonies]

The Oceanic Fleets, near the Sicilian coast

The 5th Fleet moved steadily onward. They ploughed on towards their destination, intent completing the journey that had taken them all the way from Iceland.

Admiral Phillips scowled. "We are behind schedule, Captain."

The captain of the battleship Dauntless replied hesitantly.

"Sir, the troops are ready and the transports have debarked. We wait only for your orders."

Admiral Philips drew a piece of paper from his jacket.

"Captain, take this to the last boat. It contains the coordinates of our destination. Secrecy is of the utmost importance."

"Yes sir, right away sir!"

The captain turned and walked away, gripping the paper tightly.

The transport boats launched into the sea.

As they rocked back and forth in the waves, the troop commanders conversed amongst themselves.

"This damned storm will impede our travel."

"No, launching from the ships gave us a boost, we will reach the destination like we traveled normally."

The transports fell silent as waves began to test them.

Onwards, onwards into the darkness

[Western Sylvania]

Drakenhof, Central Italy

An intelligence officer burst into the office of the Sylvanian Ruling Council.

"Urgent news from our coastal defences! The Oceanic Fleets have launched transports!"

The Ruling Council debated shortly and a member responded.

"Monitor them closely. If they turn towards us, blow them out of the water."

"At your command!"

The officer scrambled off to report to the Navy Command.

Tyrannian divisions have all fully mobilized.

The Eternal Empire will never fall!

[Belarus and Belorussia]

The grand Belarusian Navy is moving out against the Romanian threat.

3 fleets have moved out of the Straits and have entered Romanian waters. The Romanian navy is unimpressive and will easily be overwhelmed by our superior sailors.

For the Republic!

[Oceania Colonies]

February 3, 1909

The Oceanic Transport fleets had at last reached their targets. The division commander were aboard the flagship for a final briefing before the storm.

Admiral Phillips addressed the commanders.

"Alright boys, this is how it's gonna go down. 1-4 are gonna hit the northernmost target. 17-20 will hit the southernmost. Everybody in between, your targets have been individually assigned to you via the telegrams you received last night. I will be on my ship. The Dauntless and two destroyers will be providing naval barrages to support your assault."

Admiral Phillips left the briefing to return to his ship. The transports maneuvered into position on the edge of the storm they were riding.

The lead transport timed up the assault.

"Ready....break storm!"

The transports thrust out of the storm. As they charged towards the coast, the six Belarusian forts towered over the landscape. Men scrambled to get to their positions. It seemed like the surprise attack worked well.

Fort Delco was the first to mobilize its gun crews. They sent out the first volley of artillery. A transport was hit and disabled near the shoreline. The troops inside managed to struggle out and use the transport as cover.

Several more volleys commenced, but the surprise was too much. All but 4 of the transports landed successfully, and the second phase of the operation began.

At all the forts, Oceanic troops began to charge ashore. Guns opened up from everywhere. Amidst heavy casualties, Oceanic forces began to reach the cover of the fort's walls. As this happened, engineers put up ladders to assault Mariner Point. Using this as a distraction, the sheltered troops there placed explosives on the walls. This happened almost the same at Fort Calhoun. When the signal was given, the bombs were detonated and the Oceanic troops swarmed into the two forts. Defenses were little, but as the alarm was raised their progress was slowed to a bloody crawl on the first level.

Shots tore through the invaders as Maxim guns were set up in every hallway. Finally, the furthest troops in Fort Calhoun were caught in a crossfire by two heavy machine guns. Two squads were wiped out and the survivors barely managed a retreat.

At Fort Necessity, the battle went well for the defenders. The siege ladders had been forced down, and the explosives had failed to detonate. The Oceanic troops were in danger of being pushed back into the sea.

Admiral Phillips was observing the battle from the Dauntless.

"Move in towards Fort Necessity. Take out those artillery emplacements and give our boys a breach."

The naval force swiftly moved in.

"Fire one!"

A devastating volley slammed into Fort Necessity. The walls were barely affected but several artillery batteries were devastated, with a few more completely destroyed. The destroyers frantically reloaded as the Dauntless swooped into range.

"Fire two!"

The Dauntless lobbed two cannon shots into the first level walls. A breach formed as the wall collapsed and the troops swarmed in.

Troops began to move, but several guns from Belarus Point tracked one of the destroyers on its exit vector from the hot zone. The first shot exploded harmlessly against the hull armor. The second slammed into the front turret. The explosion rocked the ship. Explosions rang through the ship as it pulled away from the range of the Coastal Forts.

Fort Delco took the brunt of the assault. Crippled by the naval support, all of its artillery was gone. FIres raged on all floors. Barricades were strewn throughout, and battles already raged for the first level.

Belarus Point was shelled into silence. All of its guns are gone, and it is a burning hulk, even more so than Fort Delco. Most of its troops are trapped on one level or another, and the armory is in danger of igniting.

Fort Calhoun has stopped attackers cold, and its first level is already stained red. All forts are dealing with invaders on the first levels, except for Fort Prower, which is now engaging in an artillery duel with the Oceanic naval complement.


As the sun begins to set on the bloody battlefield, both sides have suffered heavy losses. The surprise of the assault spells disaster for Belarus and its allies. Oceanic troops are swarming the first levels of Mariner Point, Fort Delco, Fort Necessity, and Belarus Point. Fort Calhoun has stopped its attackers in a bloody counter-attack, and Fort Prower has driven its invaders back into the sea. The battle is far from over.

Bansko, Romanian Army HQ, Feb. 6, 1909

Romanian generals moved around a strategic map of Bulgaria.

General Ion Nikolai stood up and proposed a move.

"We need to put our forces behind an assault on Plovdiv. The Belarusian support is weak there."

Several other commanders voiced their disent.

"General Nikolai, Plovdiv is also the most fortified city in the Balkans. 10,000 men could hold out there for 6 months. They have 15,000."

At this, General Nikolai smiled, and revealed his master plan.

"We can shell the Bulgars into submission. But I think you are right, now is not the time. Colonel Velus will take the 2nd and 3rd Divisions and make a move towards the nearest population center."

Nikolai moved towards the map, tracing his finger outwards from Bansko.

"Here. Colonel Velus, you will take your troops here, to Varna. From there we will bring up troops and make a push towards central Bulgaria. They do not have the strength to stop us."

Colonel Velus gave a salute and marched off to address his troops.

Feb, 1909, Kasselian Embassy

Ambassadors of Hesse-Kassel met at the home embassy to discuss the recent developments. The cabinet was their as well.

"We need to formally ally with Bulgaria. That will give Romania something to think about before they attack."

Chancellor Josef Werner stood up.

"Gentlemen, the cabinet has already come to a consensus. A telegram is being drafted up and will be sent to Bulgaria asking about an alliance. You are dismissed."

The ambassadorial delegation filed out of the room very quickly.

Chancellor Werner looked over at his cabinet members.

"Well then, let's see this telegram of yours."

To the sovereign nation of Bulgaria

We are writing to you today to ask a signing of an alliance. Our nations have been informally aligned through our mutual ally Belarus and Belorussia. Now, with the Romanians preparing for an invasion, we wish to formally sign an alliance between us. This will serve to deter Romania from attacking you. If their invasion succeeds in the slightest bit, we will move a division into Romania. A rear attack will halt their invasion and give you time to plan a counter-attack.
