Class Systems in YN

Postby The Proletarian Republic » Sat Apr 14, 2018 8:24 pm

Does your nation have a class system, and if so, what is it?
The Proletarian Republic is committed to a class-free society, although those who were bourgeois before the revolution often find themselves barred from political activity.

Officially speaking, no. All ponies are equal under the law in Equestria.

Practically speaking, though, yes. Equestria was founded by the union of three nations: the Unicorns, the Pegasi, and the Earth Ponies. In the days before the union, the Unicorns held the Earth Ponies as serfs, forcing them to work and grow food for them, and in return providing protection from the marauding bands of Pegasi warriors that would raid Unicorn cities and Earth Pony farms. Eventually, though, the three tribes ended their mutual war and found a way to live in peace with one another. The Earth Ponies were emancipated and made equal citizens with their former Unicorn overlords, and the Pegasi settled down and offered their military prowess in defense of the new, unified nation.

That said, vestiges of the old class system still remain due to the immutable differences between ponies--the Unicorns' mastery of magic, the Pegasi's control over the weather, and the Earth Ponies' unique bond with nature. Each race has their own role in Equestrian society, and if some roles seem greater or lesser than others at times, well, that's just the way of the world.

Over all of this, of course, is the fourth race of Pony: the Alicorns. Only a handful of these rare and powerful beings exist, and they are the undisputed rulers of the nation. More than just an aristocratic class, according to our state religion they are revered as living deities.

There is a very clear stratification between Citizen and Residents in Teraniun, defined entirely by military service. Veterans and active duty servicemen are considered citizens, and are given a wide array of privileges and rights that they are legally protected to have, including both the right to vote and free speech. Residents comprise of anyone who has never served in the military before, which includes all children. Unlike citizens, residents may not vote in what happens in the government, nor are they allowed to criticize the government (While a citizen is encouraged to do such things as they are trusted with having the nation's best interests in mind, residents are charged with subversion). Aside from this, however, residents are still able to live and function normally within Teraniun, they are just all but completely excluded from government affairs.

There has been very little controversy on this matter alone, however the current military refuses to accept any non-human residents into their ranks, effectively denying all aliens within the nation any semblance of civil rights with no hope of achieving them. This has caused widespread unrest, both from the aliens themselves and the more progressive citizens.

In other words, Bolshevik swine, you still have a class system and you enforce it by law. You just reversed it out of petty greed and vengeance.

How typical of the Socialist.

In the Commonwealth States, you are who you make yourself to be. There is no formally enforced social order, and social mobility is quite strong.

Like a typical nation, lower, middle, and upper, with subdivisions based on how a class is able to afford different things. However, we are trying to lessen the gap between the classes, until hopefully, there won't be any class difference anymore. In Kendor, the poor class for the poorest is already not the one who lived in slums, have very low paying jobs, and very difficult to afford basic things. They lived in government constructed apartments, have their basic needs fulfilled by government-private partnership, and worked sufficient paying job to be able to go up the class if they are smart enough with the money and work hard

There are no "classes" here, everyone is seen as equal. Income inequality isn't as bad as it is in many other countries (although hard work is still rewarded). We are a relatively new country, so we haven't really had much of a past with class systems in it.

No, we do not have a class system. Also, income inequality is low here due to our universal basic income.

There's is no formal or legal class system. However, the Kenmorian society is divided informally into a class system based on income.

In the USI, we have class systems that are not formally designated. But they are distinguishable by certain characteristics of the citizens. There is Upper class, high class, middle class, working class, and poverty. There are large wealth gaps in our nation although average income is substancial. The poverty rate is on the low side.

Officially, the Democratic Republic of Gandoor doesn't have any formal classes, we do not treat any citizens differently.

Of course, in practice, there are divisions based upon wealth and income, but it's official government policy to work towards increasing economic equality and to, at the minimum, ensure that anyone living within our nation has the ability to live comfortably within their means.

So far we distinguish:
Personalities (sentient fliont)
Semi-Fliont (non-fliont with an Agent acting as a bridge)
Non-Fliont Citizens
Agent (non-sentient fliont made for specific tasks)
Non-Fliont Resident
Detached Fliont/Semi-Fliont (fliont from another Flux Empire)

The distinction between sentient citizens (Personalities, Semi-Fliont and Non-Fliont Citizens is based on the abilities of each due to Fluxation). An Agent isn't sentient, so they don't count. Residents (Non-Fliont or Detached Fliont/Semi-Fliont) are treated differently (they don't have the full legal rights of citizens, e.g. voting). Detached Fliont/Semi-Fliont have low public support but aren't legally different, except when obtaining citizenship status, as they have to become attached to the Flux Empire of the Auto-Reds.

There's basically only workers, peasants and a numerically consistent but shrinking small middle class made of self-employed people with very small businesses.

Class in Nui-ta is a very complicated topic.

The origins of class begin as far back as the First Nui-tan Monarchy, the reign of which ended nearly 900 years ago. The exact nature of class at this time is not completely well known, but a few things are generally agreed upon. Chief among them is the idea that class within the First Nui-tan Monarchy was given out to families on more of a merit-based status than in regards to wealth. Class in the First Monarchy could also be taken away for acts of dishonor.

During the arrival of the Zanze to Nui-ta, and a subsequent occupation that lasted for several centuries, the Zanze did their best to completely stamp out any traces any of the first Monarchy. These traces included the titles and honors given to certain bloodlines during the First Monarchy. More accurately, during the Zanzeanic Occupation, effort was made by the Zanze to wipe out every trace of all Nui-tan culture that they could find, and this included diluting or destroying even the lowest Nui-tan bloodlines and clans.

Moving into the end of Zanzeanic Occupation, and into the era of the current Monarchy, stress on class and bloodline became much more stringent than it had been in the previous Monarchy. The class system was re-instituted in a format that ignored current merits of the family, and instead focused on two things: 1) how intact the bloodline of the family in question is, and 2) the reputation of the family as a whole.

During the time of class apartheid, the separation between classes was very stringent. The various noble classes all had immense political power over each other and over the common classes. After several years of conflict and a major war, the political and civil differences between the classes was significantly deceased --- today the nobility bear their titles and honors according to constitutional law for ceremonial purposes only. The only member of the nobility with any guaranteed political power at all is the Emperor.

We have a standard Upper/Middle/Lower Class system. Compared to other nations with similar class systems, we have somewhat lower social mobility, but also significantly less inequality between the classes.

We also have a parallel class system that is mainly cultural, and doesn't have much to do with economics. A member of the nobility may be working a minimum wage job in food service, whereas a wealthy CEO may be a mere commoner or peasant.

This system has many ranks, but they aren't really important unless you have a title of nobility. Even then, being a noble is important because you usually have to do something impressive or be elected/appointed to a government office to get the title. The title itself doesn't get you anything. Anyone can grant anyone else any social class up to the one below them. They are, in order, with typical members in parentheses:

Emperor/Empress (Leader of a country, either ours or someone else's.)
King/Queen (Governors of the largest states.)
Prince/Princess (Relatives of another royal.)
Archduke/Archduchess (Some cabinet members, most governors and one senator per state.)
Duke/Duchess ( All other cabinet members and senators.)
Count/Countess (County executives, many state officials, and generals.)
Baron/Baroness (Mayors, county level officials, and high ranking military officers.)
Knight (City council members and low ranking military officers.)
Citizen (Not in the national citizen sense, but used to denote people who live in a major city.)
Burgher (People from medium sized cities.)
Commoner (People from suburban areas.)
Peasant (People from rural areas.)

There is a class system in the Forests, but it is easy to move between the classes, and respect is maintained through the entire system.

Since Kechaat hatch rather than get born, a hatching ceremony is a communal activity, overseen by the Treeminders. Thus comes the first class - the Uninitiated. A Srasain usually remains an Uninitiated for a few years at most.

They can set off down one of two class lines - secular or Treeminder. The ranks are considered equivalent in either line, but they are separate and follow different laws.

Within the secular line, first comes Tribespeople. They are the followers in a tribe, but are respected as vocational or other important members of a tribe.

Next come warriors. They are the fighters of a tribe. They are skilled at fighting and warfare.

Next come the wise ones. They are the few Srasain who receive decent educations and compose poetry and songs, as well as occupy important roles in governments.

Finally in the secular line are the chiefs. This class contains the subclasses of Low Chiefs and High Chiefs. There is only one high chief at a time, but over 300 low chiefs.

Next is the religious class system, the Treeminders. First come the low Treeminders, who look after small trees and tend to the gardens and basic religious and magical needs of the people.

Next come the high Treeminders, who look after the high trees, large trees which dot the forests.

Officially, there are no classes, and governmental efforts (again, officially) favor the people. However, policies tend to favor the middle class more than others, and move towards making everyone middle class.

Class divides do exist though, because these things tend to develop naturally. There are an upper, a middle, and a lower class; divides between urban, suburban, and country residents; divides between the working class and the so-called "government jobs" (which refers to civil servants typically; technically every job is a government job); and so on.

The class system in the Kingdom of New Luzon is composed of the Royal House at the top, with the Sovereign--currently King Ferdinand II--as absolute monarch.

Below them is the aristocracy, composed of the varying Noble Houses who have their own social hierarchy, exercise authority over defined territories, and ultimately answer to the Sovereign for good or ill.

Below them are other government personnel; individual commoners who make it up the ranks of, for example, Civil Service, are accorded appropriate honors for themselves.

Below them are the commoners, ordinary subjects of the Kingdom who have considerable degrees of economic mobility amongst themselves. It is here that income is at its most unequal; a commoner can just as easily be the CEO of one of the Kingdom's largest companies as he could be another inner-city scavenger looking out for himself in the ghettos of, say, Tondo.

Our nation has a lower-middle-upper class system, although discrimination based on income is looked down upon by many and said to be unfair.
We USED to have a class system where the Oltenians were the big oil bosses working with the government, Moldavians were the mistreated workers and serfs, and the Wallachians ran the government. This was abolished with the people’s revolt of 1866.
Today, there is a minor income-based divide, but nothing more.

Though we are a monarchy we really don't have an official "class" or "caste" system besides denoting commoner from royal which really only applies to the ruling duchess and her family. As people often do they may sort themselves into classes along job lines such as "fishermen" "shops" "farmers" etc but really it has little baring. Old feudal systems may have been in place centuries ago but these details are scarce.
