After 3 straight failing qualifier campaigns and 3 Cup of Harmonies (with 2 of them being victorious in), the Vans made national history last cycle by clinching a spot in the 79th World Cup Proper! After a brief period of celebration at our illustrious capital, it was back to work for Merritt and the Qad National Team as they departed for Ceni. Despite a comforting draw against Super Llamaland, TQ ultimately plummeted into a dismal performance after back-to-back losses against Chromatika and Eura, knocking them out of the contest.

In the aftermath of Schottia's first golden star, the Qasden Association Football Association (QAFA) has been much busier than usual. Besides performing well at the 55th AOCAF and South Toronto Invitational Cup, the nation opened its gates to international crowds by hosting the 71st Cup of Harmony (with Ethane) and 67th Baptism of Fire (with Banija). As the domestic season comes to a halt, it's time, ladies and gentlemen, to see our great cats brawl again in another fierce attempt at taking the grandest title in the sporting multiverse. Can the Qads make it back to the proper for a 2nd consecutive time? Will they end up checking out before they could even smell the violets? Get ready for the most exciting season yet at the 80th World Cup, hosted by Starblaydia and Equestrian States!

Current Savalen National Squad

Image
Kindly provided by Meski Sports

Team Facts

Nation: Savalen

Region: International NorthWestern Union

Nicknames: The Savages, The Lynxes (national animal), Savs

Slogan: #SavMeMaggie

Savalen is a tough place to go. Not because of the rusty football, the loud fans or terrible weather (though all three apply) but the altitude. Røros Dome is found at a height of 2,653m above sea level, Dodford Park is found at 1,975m above sea level and the Savalenians are all right at home in the thin air. Running on a football pitch here for 90 minutes is not an option except for the fittest foreigner

Image
Dodford Park
Built: 2008
Capacity: 57,250
City: Alvdal
Home team: Trondfjell Albion
Details: Found in the capital, this is the national stadium of Savalen. Expect a raucous home crowd, as it's unique "wall of sound", a stand without tiers, on the west side, is a formidable opponent in itself. Warning - not for the faint hearted.
Alvdal itself is a charming nordic village that streches on forever with the sparkling new city in the center. Hiking trails onto the highest peak in Savalen (7,647m) start here.

Image
Røros Dome
Built: 1999 (renovated 2017)
Capacity: 45,000 (if standing, 56,000)
City: Røros
Home team: Røros Rovers
Details: Based in Røros, an old mining town, the area has some of the best views in the INWU if not the multiverse, let alone Savalen. A hike is greatly recommended, as is the visit to the "northern safari." If you're rich enough, how about a helicopter ride following the deer on their annual migration, a truly awe-inspiring site!

SENIOR TEAM

Style Modifier +1.5

Coach - Marvin Vetlesen.
Starting Tactic - 4-2-3-1. The times are moving, but Marv isn't. Many fans just don't notice him standing outside the dugout, such a familiar sight it has become. However, he does have a new assistant - Gorshan. One of the greatest academics of Savalen, it's interesting to see how him being assistant will play out. Then again, there's always been weird stuff happening at such a high altitude.

STARTING XI

GK - #1 Leiv Selberg - 31
Røros Rovers Image
8 years after Savalen's first world cup in which they shocked the world and the team has changed a lot. One of the few of that "rising generation" is Selberg. Still as reliable as always, where would Savalen be without him?

LB (WB) - #3 Salle Tatar - 21
Trondfjell Albion Image
The face may have changed, but the surname hasn't. Savalen's #3 boasts the same position, same club and same shirt number as his father. Here's to hoping his defending is a little better...

CB - #15 Sauri - 24
Røros Rovers Image
Excellent player with a ridiculous vision of the game. His passess and interception are that of myths.

CB - #4 Ron Jorgensen - 31
Molde FC Image
Another who's still around and starting, but can we expect him to be able to keep pace with some of the young explosive footballers 10 years younger? His attributes say yes, but then again, he's getting older.

RB (WB) - #7 Norvik Falla - 26
Tynset City Image
Along with Tatar, he was chosen for the team based on his incredible displays for his club over the last 3/4 months. Can he help Savalen qualify once more?

MC - #18 Mirrem Sagra - 19
Vitoria de Bassuto Image
Excellent young prospect starting to prove himself in one of the best leagues around the globe, you fancy him to chip in with a few in the qualification campaign. Incredible strength in depth for Savalen this time round

MC - #12 Max(im) Sviták - 26
1860 Azoth Image
Put simply, Svitak has grown into the player that his potential expected him to be. And then some. Can he provide the tireless work and rocket shots we see him make week-in-week-out in the continental competitions for his club? Yes yes and yes (we assume...)

LAM - #14 Damien Kasarov - 19
Trondfjell Albion Image
All aboard the hype train, Kasarov is here. One of the greatest talents Savalen has ever seen, but can he replicate his form in the world cup qualifiers that he showed in the league over the last 2 seasons?

CAM - #10 Temuge - 32 Captain
Zakhoro Aces Image
Legend. Back from a number of small niggles and injuries he played his part in a top division, will he be strutting his stuff into his 50s?

RAM - #8 Norheim - 24
Røros Rovers Image
Just like last time, he has had an excellent end of the season before the world cup. Can he prove his doubters wrong again?

ST - #9 Dmitry Lesin - 25
Innfjorden FC Image
After a couple of years starring in Ethane's League, a favourite for Savalen's players, he has started to equal Temuge in his contributions to the national side. A few more years and he'll be in some exotic league somewhere?

SUBS

GK - #13 Oleg Olsen - 27
Harrenhall FC Image
Nothing can seem to knock Selberg off his perch, not even a great club season. Once again called up by Marv but not starting. At least Savalen have strength and depth in the GK position.

CB - #5 Derik Ibsen - 26
Trondheim Vikings Image
One of the better defenders in the league, Ibsen was part of the Aker team who completed the double not too long ago

RB - #17 Osel Samar - 24
Dale Image
Another who showed his true colours at Aker a while back. But is he cut up for this level?

LB/M - #19 Molon - 19
Molde FC Image
Only behind Temuge in terms of assists, Molde are very lucky to have such a talent in their ranks and he will only keep on growing. Watch this space.

DM - #6 Tobsakha - 30 Vice-Captain
Vik Image
Often forgotten work-horse of the NT - Tobsakha. He may not be the star of the team, but his impact off the bench may mean he starts in some of the later games.

MC - #17 Darren Ogorr- 19
Otta Overs Image
Fantastic strength and height, sould really be playing in the post for the basketball national team. At 7'3" bullys anybody who crosses his path.

CAM - #20 Gunnar Smeck - 24
Dale Image
Dale have only got better and better in their first season back in the top league, and Smeck is still their star man. Don't be surprised if Temuge, despite all of his talents, is benched.

ST - #16 Malik Gur- 28
Aker Image
Excellent with his feet, excellent strength on the ball, but the poor heading technique can mean he misses that golden chance. Still, an all-round excellent striker but now with added experience

Electrum National Football Team
presented by Electrum Football

General Information
Okay, so things didn't quite pan out the way they were supposed to be. They were the defending World Cup Champions, but in a predictable fashion, fans soon found out that what comes up must eventually come down, and it only took a cycle to do it. After being unceremoniously dumped in the group stage of the World Cup proper, it was time for a reboot. It had been a while, but it was finally time for the cruft to be cleared, managers sacked, players moved on, and the team reinvigorated with new talent. Last cycle, manager Jeffery Clark made only a few slight changes to the team, but given his overreliance on the ageing Electrumite stars, they were just no match for the younger teams in the competition. Surprisingly, Electrum Football did not renew Jeffery Clark's one-year extension of his managerial contract (which was granted after Electrum's WC win in 78) and the storied manager who took Centralis Heart to the CC semi-finals, and the manager who won the World Cup for Electrum was gone. Surprisingly, the Electrumites played without a manager all throughout qualification this cycle, as if they were playing on auto-pilot -- it was only when they had stamped their tickets to Starblaydia that Electrum Football announced they had selected Vilitan Lboaisa Akarelm, a former member of the Vilitan National Team on a one cycle contract, an interesting choice given the relative unknown-ness of Akarelm. Regardless, Akarelm hasn't sought to change up the Electrumite strategy too much (which is mainly playing old school 4-4-2 and a reliance on the midfield for defence and the flanks and to provide attacking opportunities)

Style: 0

Statistical Information

Combined Record: 125-41-77
Current Rankings: KPB #6

Coaching Staff
Manager: Lboaisa Akarelm
Assistant Manager: Jemima Bryant

Lboaisa Akarelm was a very surprising pick for the Electrumites -- most Electrumites football fans had never heard of them in the first place. It was a well publicised selection process, and despite the likes of notable COTEFA managers such as Tyler Fernando and Asia Carver putting their hands up for the role, Electrum Football decided to give Akarelm a one cycle contract. They must have had stood out from the rest of their crowd in his interview with the board -- it is well known how tough the Electrum Football selection process is for managers. Despite a few head-scratchings from the Electrumite footballing community, fans have embraced Akarelm as a dark horse -- Electrum was always a dark horse in the World Cup, and this cycle might be what they needed to get their mojo back. Jemima Bryant, who was hand-picked by Akarelm's predecessor stays on as assistant manager, in charge of analytics in identifying Electrum's best talent and also being the head of Electrum's development program. She is an expert in player management, and uses algorithms and other techniques popularised by former Electrumite development manager Risa Shigaraki to fully optimise player performance on the pitch.
