Man drives minivan into crowd in Münster, Germany

According to Der Spiegel and various other news sources "a vehicle" a minivan was just deliberately driven into a crowd of people in Munster Münster, killing 3 2 and wounding 30. Authorities have confirmed the driver shot himself - bringing the total death toll to 4 3. 6 of the wounded are still in critical condition.

Police are treating it like a terrorist attack and are urging people to avoid the city center.

Note for the people a few posts down who thought it necessary to make assumptions about the religion of the driver: there is NOTHING known about that yet.


People did however note that on the 7th of april 2017 a very similar terrorist attack using a truck occured in Stockholm.

Herbert Reul, the interior minister of North Rhine-Westphalia state, where Muenster is located, said the driver of the van that crashed Saturday afternoon into a crowd outside a popular bar was a German citizen. He stressed the investigation is at an early stage but said “at the moment, nothing speaks for there being any Islamist background.”

Death toll also revised down to two plus driver.

Updates: the driver has been identified as "Jens R.", a German man, nonmuslim, no relation to immigrants - except for ties to the extreme right (source: ZDF).
The total death toll is 3 (sofar, still a few people in hospital) including himself. He has been confirmed to have shot himself.

Latest news update: Police found a weapon (not specified if it's the one the perpetrator used to shoot himself) in the vehicle, along with a gas pistol and about a dozen firecracker explosives (known in Germany as "Polish crackers". Illegal for having too much explosive force). They also found an AK47 and more firecrackers at his appartment.
Looks like he was planning to make this whole thing far nastier, but he apparently - thankfully - lost nerve after his car came to a halt.

Anyways, update:

After searching the perpetrator's apartments - he had several - his character profile is progressing: He worked as an industrial designer and was apparently rather well-off financially. The police found a suicide goodbye-letter of sorts in the perpetrator's flat in which he laid out what had gone wrong for him in life - being bullied at school, problems with his parents, problems with his family, anxiety, stress attacks, mental disturbances, bad luck at work lately etc. the usual things.
Apparently he didn't imply wanting to hurt other people though.

I know it is common in London, since I have been there. Last time I was in Germany it wasn't that common from what I remember, but that was well over 10 years ago. I would guess it will become more common as these events happen more and more.
