All my friends are heathens, take it slow
Wait for them to ask you who you know
Please don't make any sudden moves
You don't know the half of the abuse...
Why'd you come, you knew you should have stayed
I tried to warn you just to stay away
And now they're outside ready to bust
It looks like you might be one of us

This is not a superhero RP. The world of the RP is one where metahumans exist, and where powers from the mundane to the extraordinary are relatively common. But unlike other RPs that may follow crime fighters and superheroes, this one is going to take a look at the other side. The Kings Family is one of the largest crime syndicates in the world, an organization made up of modern day supervillains. Members of the Kings Family come from countries around the world and live dangerously, conducting crimes such as heists, attacks on important figures, and the theft of important objects. While just about every other villain organization has been taken down by costumed superheroes who put their lives on the line to protect the public, the Kings Family has lived through all of it.
It's not just a group, but it's an idea, representing outlaws and outcasts and the lower dregs of society that would otherwise never see prominence in their lives. The Kings made those people not only relevant, but respected, and feared by everyone. Now, the Kings are offering a once in a lifetime chance to a number of young criminals, rogues, and reprobates. The offer is simple: attend the new Kings Academy until the age of 21, before receiving a role in the main part of the organization. The Kings Academy is meant to train the next generation, but this isn't the kind of academy that will teach through classes and boring training exercises.
No, the Kings Academy is based inside the Scourge, one of the three high tech airships of the Kings Family. Designed with stealth technology and invisible to radar, the Scourge allows students to travel the world and get experience in their craft. Instead of taking a written exam, you'll be tasked with stealing jewels. Instead of gym class, you'll get live fire combat training. This academy will immerse you directly into the world of crime, and not everyone is cut out for it. Some won't be strong enough. Others will find that they aren't up for it mentally, or that they can't make themselves build a career around breaking the law.
The Academy is a brutal place. The "lessons" aren't easy and the instructors aren't always your friend. But if you can survive, and if you can become a proficient villain in the field? Well, the world is yours. Along with all of the money, vices, and power that you've ever desired. You just have to reach out and take it.
L O R E
Metahumans, a product of the atomic age, are mostly a normal people that blend in with society. However, a small percentage of them join the battle between heroes and villains, one that has been doing since the heroes first showed up in the 50s. Many hero and villain groups were formed over the years, but eventually, things settled down and two main ones stood standing; the Union of Heroes became the main representatives of their side and began operating in every country, and the Kings Family was the one group that they couldn't destroy. The 70s, 80s, and 90s were a bad time for villains, where there was brutal infighting between superpowered criminal organizations.
That infighting allowed the Union to effectively pick off the groups one by one, but in 1982, the Kings Family was founded and was known early on for focusing on the enemy rather than petty grudges within the group, or rival criminal syndicates. With military organization and ruthless efficiency, the Kings proved themselves as the strongest criminals of them all, and spread their crime empire from Britain to Europe and America. By the 90s, they were becoming a worldwide force, and by 2000, they were the ones still standing strong against the Union of Heroes.
Of course, the Union isn't without faults. The organization is subject to bureaucracy, is heavy handed in its tactics, and has been accused of being a puppet to the world governments that provide it funding. They aren't trusted completely, and this further boosted the Kings Family, allowing them to gain fans of their own and become a bit more than hated and feared criminals. The Kings popularity led to them gaining a surge of membership in the 2000s, allowing them to gather enough funds to become a competitive threat to the Union and fund criminal activities worldwide that include drug production and selling, various forms of trafficking, racketeering, illegal counterfeiting, and extortion.
But all of those crimes are just a way to fund their largest operations, the ones that involve metahumans. The Kings are after power, and that's been at the core of their battles with the Union and with local governments. These days, the battles are more frequent than ever, and both sides search for an edge over each other. That's why the Kings began recruiting young members with a program to rival the Union Youth, and training them for the future among other measures intended to help them out down the line. It remains to be seen whether this measures will change the course of the battle or not.

The Kings don't recruit just anybody. To attend the Kings Academy, you must have some kind of criminal record. There may be special exceptions for those who have very dangerous powers and the potential to make good villains in the future, but for the most part, you're usually here because you committed a crime and got on the radar of the Kings. Usually, assault or grand theft are the lowest level crimes that can get someone into the Kings Academy. Once recruited, all students take an aptitude exam that measures their personality and decision making.
This means one thing: no innocent characters, and no heroes. Most of you aren't total monsters, some of you aren't even bad people at heart. But if you're here, it's because you're a dangerous person that has already shown their potential to live the life of a criminal. If you have too strict of a moral code, if you're the kind of lawful person that doesn't usually become a criminal, you likely wouldn't have been accepted into the Academy. Instead, you would be returned to your hometown with your transportation fees paid for. But passing the exam shouldn't be hard for you. After all, you committed a crime to get here.
There's not a ton of limits on characters, but there are a few that you need to keep in mind. Characters should be human only. This also means no anthropomorphic non human characters, such as nekos. The only exception to this rule is robotic characters that are designed to be like humans in most aspects. Supernatural beings such as angels, demons, vampires, and mythological beings are not allowed. There is magic in this universe, however, and magical beings exist. They aren't intelligent, however, and a character can't be made out of them. For example, a demon would be an animal like spirit rather than a thinking and feeling person. An angel would be a more abstract spirit without a sense of self.
Also, power levels in this RP are lower than other ones in the genre. This is because having very powerful characters forces everyone to play these characters to compete with the competition, and forces the skill of the competition to ridiculous levels to make the RP challenging. You can be good at something, but you need more drawbacks when you begin adding more strengths. A character that's a competent swordsman, archer, and strategist is going to require more major weaknesses than a character whose only main skill is swordsmanship.
Weaknesses must be practical. If it doesn't have a tangible effect on your character, it doesn't count as an acceptable weakness. For example, it's not a weakness for the character to get headaches that they can fight through. It would be a weakness if their power caused them to pass out if overused, on the other hand. If you need to figure out how strong your character should be, feel free to ask on this thread before writing your application.
Lastly, while this RP won't be as difficult as previous ones, combat is meant to be challenging. Your enemies will usually be better trained and stronger than you are. Death isn't just a possibility, but something that you should fear. While every mistake isn't going to kill you, your actions have strong consequences and the thread won't be balanced because of OOC wishes. That is, you can't ask in the OOC or the Discord to get an easier fight. If you end up in a bad matchup and you get stomped because of it, it's usually your own fault. But pick your actions carefully and don't rely on luck, and you should do fine.

This is a cross between a sandbox academy RP and a story driven one. There is an overarching story, and it's a very important part of the RP, but parts of it will take place off of the airship and you'll have to volunteer to get involved with it. Before field missions, a call will be posted in the OOC thread for players to join. Each mission will be capped at a certain number of players, ensuring that only active players are involved in advancing the plot. If you aren't in the field for a mission, you'll usually be on board the airship, where you can usually interact in whatever ways you feel like with other players. There will also be side arcs taking place at the airship, for those who aren't going on missions but want something to do.
The RP will make use of periodic time skips to move the story forward, and a time skip will come at each arc. The starting date will be January, 2018. This is when the characters will be introduced to their new life at the Kings Academy.
