Taking bids for a new main tank

Postby Wha Sha Zhe » Sun Mar 25, 2018 2:50 am

Greetings to All,
I am Principal Chief Geoffrey Standing Horse of the newly formed nation of Wha Sha Zhe, we are in dire need of a new main tank. Currently we have a few M60s, a few BMP-1s, some modified heavy trucks and lots of horses. What we are looking for is a tank capable of moving rapidly as possible over our rocky hilly terrain with small streams of up to 6 feet deep. The engine needs to be mounted forward, ( Its easier to replace vehicles but not crew) needs at least 105mm gun with a autoloader and able to fire ATGM, would like speed of around 45 mph, and a crew of 3. As to the armor we will leave that up to the builder. The electronics we are able to build and install them ourselves. The most important part is that of cost we would like it to have a price of between 3million to 5 million. Please telegraph if you have any questions.

To: Principal Chief Geoffrey Standing Horse, the Nomadic Peoples of Wha Sha Zhe.
CC: Armed Forces of the Nomadic Peoples of Wha Sha Zhe, Office for Equipment Procurement (or equivalent).

Return Adress: Fiona Banphrionsa of the Tribe of Cavan, Gabha Blacksmiths Ltd., Traverse, Free Lands of the Selkie.
Sunday, 25th of March, 2018.

Dear Sir,
first of all, allow me to congratulate you and your brave people on forming a nation and on moving onto the world stage.

Now then, please allow me to move on to business.
We had heard about your bid for new tanks, and, as the principal supplier of arms and vehicles for the SDF-Army, we might be able to provide you with not one, but two options.
One of them would be the Cealg Mark I-B Light Tank, a vehicle fitting all of the requirements set forth by you and then some: Armed with a 120mm rifled gun, the Cealg is capable of firing all sorts of ammunition including ATGMs, the forward mounted engine allowing the fording of rivers up to a depth of 9 feet without prior preparation, higly mobile in forests, plains and rocky hilly terrain, as well as generally hilly terrain. Except in mountains and jungles, the Cealg Light Tank is highly mobile, as well as airportable.
The other offer would be the Creachadoir Heavy Armoured Reconnaissance Vehicle. Less of a tank in the classical sense and more a Armoured Reconnaissance Vehicle, the Creachadoir is armed with a 105mm gun, which can not fire ATGMs, but all other sorts of ammunition, is even more mobile then the Cealg and cheaper in both acquisition and upkeep.
You will find the official catalogue descriptions below. If officers and tank crews of the Armed Forces of Wha Sha Zhe want to see the vehicles in action, it can be arranged on the proving grounds near Traverse, together with men of the SDF-Army.

I eagerly await your reply,
Fiona Banphrionsa of the Tribe of Cavan
Representing Gabha Blacksmiths Ltd.

The Cealg Mark I-B Light Tank is the first tank build for the SDF since around a half century, since the Cosaint MBT was phased out. Emphasizing the virtues held dear by the SDF, namely firepower, mobility and easy maintenance couple with generally low operating costs, the Cealg Mark I-B Light Tank is a serious threat to every enemy armoured vehicle.
With a weight of 33.2 tons, the Cealg Mark I-B can be airlifted, airdropped and easily loaded on landing craft, as well as train carts.

Design
The Cealg Mark I-B Light Tank is a light armoured vehicle with a low profile, 2.02 meters high on the top of the turret, not including foldable antennas or the machine gun mount on its remote weapon station. It is a tracked vehicle with a high mobility in rough terrain, capable of wading through a depth of 1.4 meters without prior preparation, with snorkel up to 4 meters. The vehicle has a climbing ability of one meter.
The highly reliable engine is built into the front as an additional front armour, the Inneall I-42D being a 6-cylinder diesel engine, providing 540 kW at 2,400 rpm. Thanks to this, the Cealg Mark I-B Light Tank can reach a top speed of 70 km/h on roads and 40 km/h off-road with an internal fuel tank of 700 liters.
The suspension is a torsion bar suspension, a double break system enables the Cealg Mark I-B Light Tank to stop and turn on the spot.
The Cealg Mark I-B Light Tank is NBC-protected.

Armour
Much of the Cealg Mark I-B Light Tank's survivability is related to its low profile as the armour is relatively light compared to other MBTs. 65 mm of composite armour at 75 degrees on the glacis and 32 degrees of composite armour on the sides, which can supplemented by ceramic plates.
The armour is made of ceramic composites with honeycomb structure sandwiched between rolled homogeneous steel faces from Ironcastle Ironworks, offering high protection against shaped charges and kinetic energy penetrators. This armour, layer upon layer, can defeat 125mm guns firing armour-piercing ammunition at point blank range and defeated most of the available armour-piercing ammunition. The Cealg Mark I-B Light Tank can be equipped with reactive armour bricks and slat armour.
Thanks to its light weight and mobility, the Cealg Mark I-B Light Tank's protection does not only rely on its armour, but mainly on its tactical mobility over nearly all kinds of terrain.

The main gun is a Gabha G-156 L/55 120mm Main Gun, a light weight powerful gun up for its task against most armoured threats presented to it, especially thanks to its rifling. Updated from the G-155 L/44 120 mm Main Gun, it allows the projectile to reach a higher muzzle velocity due to allowing for higher peak pressure, which enhances the gun's range considerably while making it possible to use the same 120mm ammunition. The G-156 is also equipped with a new autoloader with improved performance.
With its gyro-stabilization on three axis, laser-rangefinder, optics capable of nightvision and thermal vision, a muzzle breaker for reduced recoil and rifling of the gun itself, the G-156 L/55 makes the Cealg Mark I-B Light Tank is a highly dangerous opponent.
While the turret is turned electrically, taking fifteen seconds for one 360 degree turn, it has a reserve system enabling the crew to manually aim the turret in case of a electronics failure. The G-156 can fire grenades from HE and HEAT to APDS and APFSDS rounds as well as ATGMs from the main gun. The Cealg Mark I-B Light Tank can carry 38 rounds of different ammunitions in the turret.
For fighting at night, the Cealg Mark I-B Light Tank has a low light level television camera installed into the mantlet, the periscopes of commander, gunner and loader are equipped with night vision as well. For more difficult targets, the cameras can be switched to heat-seeking mode.

The secondary armament consists of two positions, a coaxial machine gun by the main gun, operated by the gunner, and a remote weapons station on the roof, operated by the commander. Said remote weapons station can be armed with a machine gun, an auto-cannon, a grenade machine gun or any other kind of heavy weapon. We suggest testing your mount with us before deciding.
The SDF-Army operates their Cealgs with a Machine Gun, Model 1981 in coaxial position and a Machine Gun, Grenade, Model 1990 in the remote weapons station.
Additionally, the Cealg Mark I-B Light Tank is armed with a system of smoke grenade launchers, eight on either side of the turret, allowing for the Cealg to create its own visual cover to escape.

History
The SDF-Army began to experiment with tanks in infantry support roles and as a main attack arm in the 30s, but the results were, most likely due to the nature of the Free Lands geographically speaking, less then stellar.
Economic difficulties and problems with the doctrine did the rest in that regard, in the 1950s, many of the SDF-Army's tanks were either sold or decommissioned. A few were modified to armoured engineer vehicles.

For around half a century, the SDF-Army preferred APCs and infantry in anti-tank roles as well as helicopters and aircraft. With new times came new threats to the Free Lands, and as such, the SDF-Army and the SDF-Navy began modernization programs in the mid-2000s.
One part of this was the establishment of an armoured support arm for infantry support against armoured threats and buildings, which soon turned into an equal force with the Nióchan Army Reforms cooperating with the infantry as a sort-of equal to the cavalry of old.
In 2012, the first section of tanks was introduced and began tests and exercises, as well as working out usage doctrines together with the army of a friendly nation, until in 2016, the Army Reforms were introduced and reformed the SDF-Army considerably.
Today, the Cealg Mark I-B Light Tank, updated from the less capable Cealg Mark I-A, is the main battle tank of the SDF-Army, despite being a light tank.

The Creachadóir Heavy Armoured Reconnaissance Vehicle is a wheeled armoured reconnaissance vehicle and tank destroyer in production by Gabha Blacksmiths Limited and introduced to the SDF-Army. Incorporating the virtues held dear by the SDF, namely firepower, mobility and easy maintenance coupled with generally low operating costs, the Creachadóir Heavy Armoured Reconnaissance Vehicle provides a stable reconnaissance and support platform, usable in multiple configurations.
With a weight of 27.1 tons, the Creachadóir Heavy Armoured Reconnaissance Vehicle can be airlifted, airdropped and easily loaded onto landing craft (or wade ashore by itself), as well as train carts.

Design
The Creachadóir Heavy Armoured Reconnaissance Vehicle is an eight-wheeled, long range reconnaissance vehicle and tank-destroyer, capable of scouting ahead of a main force, supporting own infantry elements against heavily armoured threads and surviving encounters with said threats as well.
Powered by a 10-cylinder water-cooled Diesel engine, an Inneall I-40B, all axis are driven, giving the Creachadóir Heavy Armoured Reconnaissance Vehicle unparalleled manoeuvrability and agility, while its low profile allows for being undetected for a long time. That, coupled with the Creachadóir Heavy Armoured Reconnaissance Vehicle being manned by three soldiers and an autoloader in the gun's turret, and the fact, that maintenance especially on the engine is easy, the Creachadóir Heavy Armoured Reconnaissance Vehicle is a valuable addition to any arsenal.
Due to the Creachadóir Heavy Armoured Reconnaissance Vehicle's nature as an armoured reconnaissance vehicle, the vehicle was designed to work in any climate, from frozen tundras to scorching deserts and was therefore equipped with air conditioning and heaters, which also allow the onboard computers to stay operational in even the harshest climates.

The Creachadóir Heavy Armoured Reconnaissance Vehicle is capable of climbing a vertical step of 1 meter, cross a 2 meter wide trench, ford 1.5 meter water without prior preparation, can climb a gradient of 70 degrees and traverse a gradient of 30 degrees.

Armour
The Creachadóir Heavy Armoured Reconnaissance Vehicle is protected both by its armour, by its mobility and by its low profile, staying undetected until its too late for the enemy, shaking off the pursuing enemy and defeating his ammunition along the way.
Armouring the Creachadóir Heavy Armoured Reconnaissance Vehicle had been a bit of a challenge as the armour had to be both light and protecting, both against weapon's fire as well as against mines.
The latter was accomplished by armouring the underside of the vehicle extensively with the same thing as the upper armour: Composite armour, similar to the one used on the Cealg Mark I-B Light Tank, but not as thick.
Sandwiched between rolled homogeneous steel faces from Ironcastle Ironworks, the honeycombed ceramic composites offer high protection against shaped charges and kinetic energy penetrators. Layer upon layer of armour stacked onto each other can defeat armour-piercing ammunition. The system can be supplemented with reactive armour bricks and slat amour.

The Creachadóir Heavy Armoured Reconnaissance Vehicle's main weapon is the Gabha G-170 L/54 105 mm Main Gun, a gun, which was originally developed for the Cealg Light Tank, but then seen as too weak – however, the engineers of Gabha Blacksmiths Limited saw it as an ideal weapon for the Creachadóir Heavy Armoured Reconnaissance Vehicle, its rifling allowing for high-precision fire over long ranges thanks to the high peak pressure of the gun.
The G-170 L/54 is gyro-stabilized on three axis, equipped with a muzzle breaker for reduced recoil and extensive targeting systems, from laser-rangefinders over infrared cameras to night-fighting capabilities due to night-vision optics.
The turret is turned electrically, taking fourteen seconds for one 360 degree turn, it has a reserve system as well, enabling the crew to manually turn and aim the gun in case of a failure of electronics. The G-170 can fire HE, HEAT, APDS, APFSDS, phosphorous and grapeshot rounds from its main gun. 25 rounds of these ammunitions can be carried in the turret.

The SDF-Army operates their Creachadóirs with a Machine Gun, Model 1981 in coaxial position and a Machine Gun, Grenade, Model 1990 in the remote weapons station.
Additionally, the Creachadóir Heavy Armoured Reconnaissance Vehicle is armed with a system of smoke grenade launchers, eight on either side of the turret, allowing for the Creachadóir to create its own visual cover to escape.

History
Selkie were always horseriding people and as such, their way of waging war developed along different lines, emphasizing both mobility and firepower of any given system. While the tank in its first models was tested, it was deemed too slow and expensive for the SDF's needs and budgets and as such, after a few tests, tanks were not used until the Cealg came along.
The introduction of a light tank was only part of a larger rearmament program to arm the SDF for future threats and conflicts, both at home and overseas. As such, the SDF also requested proposals for a heavy armoured reconnaissance vehicle – many competitors entered the RFP made inside the Free Lands and the Creachadóir Heavy Armoured Reconnaissance Vehicle was chosen to be produced.
The Creachadóir Heavy Armoured Reconnaissance Vehicle is nowadays part of the main fighting and scouting forces of the SDF-Army, the backbone of the forces concerned with fighting on open terrain.

Gabha Blacksmiths Limited is currently developing turret variations including a SPAAG, a rocket-artillery vehicle, a command vehicle, a mortar vehicle, NBC-reconnaissance, an engineer-vehicle, a SAM-vehicle and a SIGINT-vehicle.
I play PT, MT and a bit FT. I am into character-RPs.
My people are called the Selkie, the nation is usually called the Free Lands in MT-settings. Thanks.

M3a1

The core of the Valkiir Armored forces the Mohljaniir is a heavy well-armored fighting vehicle designed to face superior numbers of enemy tanks with a high degree of survivability and mission completion. It's heavily sloped Chobham armor is proof to most threats on the battlefield allowing the crew to maneuver aggressively using its high mobility and speed to great effect. The M-3 can go toe to toe with the latest Main battle tank and survive with a high degree of success, its main gun can defeat all but the most advanced MBTs on the battlefield.

Valkiir Heavy Industries manufactures the vehicle in several locations and in several variants for the export market. The standard domestic model features heavy armor with improved overhead and mine protection built into the design. Additional Reactive and spaced armor panels provide excellent protection against ATGM and other shaped charge weapons.

It's stabilized 120mm smoothbore main gun is fully stabilized and features advanced fire control systems to make it as accurate as any gun on the market today. While firing a lethal depleted uranium projectile that can slice through most enemy tanks like a hot knife through butter.

The driver, Commander, and gunner have access to day/night optics, with enhanced Thermal imaging capabilities.giving the crew exceptional battlefield awareness and allowing rapid detection and engagement of enemy targets.

the Preferred nations Package reduces some of the secondary systems for reduced cost and to allow the buyer to install aftermarket and self-produced systems if desired. It does not sacrifice armor or firepower making it a lethal battlefield presence in its own right.

The Export version reduces armor and weapon caliber as well as most secondary systems to reduce price and to ensure that in potential conflicts the Valkiir Army is not facing its own weaponry. The lighter armor, reduced gun size and absent secondary systems do make the vehicle far less expensive and actually increases the performance of the vehicle in the areas of speed, range, and cross-country mobility.

M3EX
The Export version of the Vehicle fitted with a 105mm Rifled gun, and basic fire control and gun stabilization. It lacks any assisted navigation or data management systems relying on basic electronics and a built-in GPS system alone. It is designed to be upgraded with locally produced weapons, electronics, and computer systems by the purchaser as well as being suitable to be upgunned to whichever weapons system the purchaser desires.

Cost 6,000,000 all armor and performance statistics match M3A1

Fully stabilized Laser and optical rangefinding computer system with auto track and lead calculating features. Once locked onto a target the system will automatically maintain the Aimpoint at the center of mass of the target using its thermal and visual signature as a reference point.

The system can compute for wind direction and intensity, deformation of the gun tube, temperature humidity and vehicle movement. It can also adapt to different ammunition types using ballistic data stored in its memory

GP-12 Precision Navigation System: Precision GPS navigation system capable of storing high detail Topographic maps and maps of local buildings and infrastructure. The system makes use of three integrated receivers for more reliable performance allowing it to accurately determine the vehicles position up to three meters 99% of the time under normal conditions.

M3a1

The core of the Valkiir Armored forces the Mohljaniir is a heavy well-armored fighting vehicle designed to face superior numbers of enemy tanks with a high degree of survivability and mission completion. It's heavily sloped Chobham armor is proof to most threats on kredi the battlefield allowing the crew to maneuver aggressively using its high mobility and speed to great effect.

To answer your question,

We are willing to sell of a number of our main battle tanks we have in storage to you. These tanks are heavily armored, have great mobility, and are armed to the teeth with what ever weapons you can think up of. In fact, you could convert one of them into an SPAA vehicle, self propelled gun, or even a tank destroyer if you had a heavy enough gun. The opportunities that come with such a versatile machine are endless, and whats more, we are willing to sell you these tanks at 5 million NSD each. However, the tank in question does not have a front mounted engine, but it makes up for that in a high amount of frontal armor that may sway your opinion on the engine location. The information for the MBTs can be found below this message

With kind regards,

Field Marshal Timyu Fresna

Summary: The D7A1 Lion main battle tank is the bread and butter of the Sleetavian armored forces, meant to take the brunt of enemy fire and smash through enemy defenses. For this task, it has an abnormally high ratio of its total armor mounted on the front to take hits from various weaponry and keep on going. It is also armed with a 128mm electro-thermal gun, a co-axial .50 cal, and a turret mounted .50 cal in order to dish out the damage. It is also quite fast: On roads, it can reach a blistering 60 mph onroad, and can still pump out around 45 mph offroad even on rough terrain. This is in thanks to its powerful V3308 water-hydrogen engine, which can output around 1,850 shp. It is operated by a crew of four (Commander/machine-gunner, gunner, loader, driver) and has a gross weight of 68 tonnes.

Armament: As stated above, the tank is armed with a L-98T electro-thermal gun capable of sending a standard N88 APFSDS shell through 810mm of armor at 2,000m. It is capable of also firing the N86 HEFS (High Explosive Fin Stabilized) round, N87 APIFSDS round (780mm at 2,000m), and the RK44 laser guided ATGM. Not only is it capable of being a mainline tank, it has also proved to be quite a good SPAA vehicle, armed with a CIWS system in the turret to take on enemy aircraft. It is also armed with two .50 cal weapons, one in the co-axial position and the other on the turret, which can be remotely operated in hazardous conditions by the commander. And in tricky binds, the smoke launchers located on the sides of the turret can launch anti-infrared smoke 5m-20m in front of the tank to provide concealment.

Armor and Protection: As far as the Lion is concerned, armor is plentiful on this vehicle. The hull itself is constructed out of a combination of depleted uranium, light but strong composite materials, and hardened ceramic blocks. Thus, the tank has an effective armor rating of 1500mm of thickness at the front, 700mm at the sides (From the side-skirts reactive armor), and 200mm of armor at the rear. These values can be increased with the addition of ERA and other reactive armors added on. Furthermore, it has a Trophy II active protection system for dealing with incoming missiles, HEAT rounds, and enemy ATGMs. And if that wasn't enough, its electronics have been designed to withstand powerful EMPs, and its filtration and sealing systems are capable of keeping the crew alive even in the middle of nuclear radiation. Diving headfirst into a nuclear battlefield with this thing however is ill-advised.

Mobility: While the Lion may be heavy compared to other tanks, that does not mean that it is sluggish. It can traverse its hull 360 degrees in around 8 seconds, its turret in 6-7 seconds, and it can go from zero to 30 MPH in 2.7 seconds. Its magnetically assisted tracks means that it can pull these kind of maneuvers without throwing a track or sustaining damage to its drive-train. There are two settings for the engine of the Lion: 'Full' and 'Road'. Road optimizes the engine for flat. smooth terrain such as roads and plains, meaning that the output of the hydrogen engine itself is limited somewhat in order to prevent mechanical jamming from happening, and to increase the service life of the engine. Full however is recommended to be used on rough, unstable terrain. Here, the full might of the Lion's engine is poured into every single movement the driver makes the tank take, in order for the vehicle to better traverse terrain.

Who needs bullets when you can arm tanks with nukes.

This nation is not entirely representative of my views. I've had some fun with the stats and I want to keep them that way.
