Map of Valanora

Valanora Information
The most important thing to know about traveling through Valanora is that automobiles are banned except for government officials. A high tech railway system connects the entirety of the nation, with three international airports in Raynor City, Gladerial, and Baysleef. A ferry from Rinaldi travels to and from the island of Capri every hour on the hour. The most distinguishing feature of Valanora is the prevalent amount of forests standing in many of the inner half of the nation, even in cities, with the elven attempts to live in harmony with nature. Vanorians are a polite if not a bit high on themselves, believing elvenkind to be superior to humans, though they show a respect for the potential their humanoid cousins have.

Cosumar U21 National Team
Di Bradini Cup 42

Image

Team Information

Nation: The Fiefdom of Cosumar

Government: Cosumar is comprised of 21 historical fiefs that now function as provinces. The Fiefdom is a constitutional monarchy with King James II and the King's Congress at its head. The pillars of full personal freedoms, protecting nature, advancing knowledge, exploring outer space and, increasingly, passionate soccer support are held dear and instilled in the youth of each generation.

Region: Atlantian Oceania

Nickname: Junior Dragons

Colors: Royal Blue, Silver, Navy, White

Stadium: Estadio MasseMord (capacity 43.000) in Azuris, South Klyde Fief

Note on Vloo: The roster consists of 23 players, all but one of whom are standard humans. The remaining player, defender Va'Afaja, is of the Vloo people (homo cosumarensis). The Vloo are a sentient species native to Cosumar. They are humanoid in shape and slightly taller on average, with a subtle pale blue tint to their skin and a pair of horns protruding from their foreheads. The range of athleticism in Vloo is similar to that of humans. You can recognize which players are Vloo by their surnames: which usually begin with one of three clan-based prefixes: Na'-, Va'- or Vu'-.

Team: After a string of underachieving tournaments, Johannes Sulo has been removed as U21 manager. In his place steps Lyndalyn Alford, plucked from her post with Real Azuris' U18 team after their unprecedented success at the youth level. Alford's new-look U21 squad will play a bit more of a proactively-attacking style than Alexander Pearce's senior team did in the AOCAF, with the wingers pressing high, a lethal target forward seldom leaving the box (Nyström) and a designated #10 (Isla Sibučić) on the prowl with minimal defensive responsibility. They will try to force mistakes and capitalize on them with quick, up-tempo passing. This wave of young Cosumarite talent is already being hailed as the finest in the Fiefdom's history, with players like Sibučić and Bryger Tidesson already senior-level AOCAF champions and considered world-class at elite UICA clubs. It's also deep. There are prominent players for big Härlighet Ligan and Audioslavian clubs (Aedelbrandt, Kahlor) that won't even make the starting eleven. Meanwhile, Fireblade-Mokumdarian has the potential to be the most athletic and dynamic central midfield any Cosumarite team has fielded...ever. With the Di Bradini Cup 35 title now far in the rearview mirror, the pressure is ON for this generation to reclaim youth football's most storied prize. They have a spine of players already growing accustomed to winning. Alford has called up four players (three of whom being Tidessons) that she won back-to-back Youth Cups with at Real Azuris.

Formation: 4-2-3-1

Kits

Image

Donning the uniform of the senior National Team is a prestigious honor. One that must be earned. So, our youth teams do not use the same one. They're given the old NT kits that were used in World Cup 70 and decommissioned prior to World Cup 71. Courtesy of Meski Sports. The home (left) and away (middle) kits feature the iconic Azure Dragon that resides in Cosumar's northern wilderness. The goalkeeper kit (right) is swathed in green and gold - the colors of the royal family.

Starting XI

Goalkeeper - Trent Fielding - 21M - Olask Islanders Image
Solid goalkeeper who showed flashes in his Härlighet Ligan debut last season. Still a bit mechanical.

Left Back - Q'orianka Va'Afaja - 20F - Cassandra City Image
Technically-adept Vloo fullback who has been starting in the HL since 17. Not flashy, but quietly effective.

Center Back - Liesl Vanzanto - 21F - Real Azuris Image
Classic, no-nonsense center-half with a penchant for sliding tackles. Struggled slightly in adjusting to a starting role for Azuris last season, but should have no problem at this level.

Center Back - Alfred Tidesson - 20M - Real Azuris Image
Vanzanto's rival for playing time at the club level. The younger brother of Bryger Tidesson broke in and steadied Real's leaky defense last season as they stabilized in the top half. Fiercely competitive, even to a fault.

Right Back - Bryan Estes - 19M - Wofford Town Image
Quick, fluid player on the right side who has been honing his craft with lots of valuable playing time over the last few years in the ANL.

Center Mid - Harald Fireblade - 21M - Florence Boldclub Image
Always one of the most athletic and physically imposing players on the pitch, Fireblade makes his presence felt everywhere. Still a bit too unpredictable.

Center Mid - Kai-Kai Mokumdarian - 19M - San Marco Storm Image
Another center mid distinctly unlike the usual Cosumarite mold. Tall, athletic, two-footed, at his best best surging up through the middle with the ball to set things in motion. Native of Rexnor Colony.

Left Winger - Mehmet Curwyk - 21M - Mallox Image
Crafty winger with a great burst of acceleration and left-footed cross on him. He has developed a maturity to his game that was essential to Mallox's surprise title. Not a great finisher yet. Takes the corners.

Attacking Midfielder - Isla Sibučić - 21F - Cornellians Image
The #10. Though tiny, Isla can single-handedly bring a defense to its knees with her pace, intelligence and out-of-this-world technical ability. An assist machine, but can still add goals to her game at the international level. Native of Fevelo Colony. Also starts for the senior team. Takes the free kicks.

Right Winger - Bryger Tidesson - 21M - Real Azuris Image
A fearless and inventive winger who can do it all. The captain and face of this Cosumarite generation. HL PoTY and Champions' Cup winner. Eldest brother of the famous Tidesson quintet. Also starts for the senior team. Takes the penalties.

Center Forward - Zak Nyström - 20M - FC Samotath Image
Big yet agile target forward who thrives putting away anything from within 15 yards.

Bench

GK - Edith Tidesson - 19F - Real Azuris Image
Tall, long-limbed goalkeeper with excellent reflexes, but doesn't quite have full command of her six-yard box yet.

LB - Arthur Bourillion - 20M - Pelethas United Image
The Klyde native of Cenian heritage has heaps of potential, but needs more playing time in Pelethas.

CB - Shrey Sumiile - 20M - Ulsa Image
The Rocinante product is a long, lanky defender with some ability on the ball. Still trying to break through at Ulsa.

CB - Horatius Chaumancer - 19M - Centralis Heart Image
Scouts salivate over the newly-minted Centralis player's muscular frame and fierce mentality as a dominant defender in Sekundar Ligan from age 17.

RB - Shule Turgötten - 21F - Easthaven Centurion Image
Speedy, attack-minded fullback who has thrived on the overlap in Super-Llamaland. Needs to be reminded she's still a defender at times though.

DM - August Chappelle - 20M - Mallox Image
The Mallox homegrown can play CB or slide forward as a roving #6. Excellent at winning the ball cleanly.

CM - Dexter Tricklebank - 20M - Eastweald Image
Lithe midfielder who excels passing and moving in fast combinations but can also play a nice long ball. Never stops running. Looks set to finally get regular starts for Eastweald this season.

LW - Zoë Aedelbrandt - 21F - OAS Royal FC Image
Along with academy mate Sen Marsteller, Zoë broke out in a big way last season as OAS Royal piled on the goals. Notched 11 with her boundless energy and audacity to try things despite coming off the bench more often than starting.

CAM - Tofer Kahlor - 21M - Oljestaden IF Image
Looks tall and awkward when you first see him on the pitch, yet there's a certain gracefulness in his long-strided movements. Moves more naturally with the ball than without it and overcomes his lack of pace by seeing things before they happen.

RW - Lacy Profressíce - 21F - Myana Islanders Image
Taken under the wing of Corey Simmons Jr. at Myana and played a big part in their resurgence. Oozles pace and a powerful shot, but her touch still needs work.

ST - Attaline Adedirdan - 20F - Pascal Mashu Image
A spunky character just as lively off the pitch as on it, often sporting some rainbow highlights in her black hair. Small and easily knocked off the ball, but quick as a flea and with an accurate left boot.

ST - Aron Riise - 20M - Helfin Fief Image
Fairly orthodox but nevertheless productive strike prospect. Arguably Helfin Fief's best player as they claimed promotion last season.

Home Away Third
Modifier: +1

Manager: Mór Császár, age 44
Assistant: Mezei Orbán, age 43

Keepers
GK: Guglielmo Lo Duca, age 18, Stoneshore United Image
GK: Liliána Végh, age 18, Galatica (F)
GK: Borka Szekeres, age 16, CA Paulinthal (F)
Surprisingly, two of the three keepers are women, which is rare given that female Pasargans usually preferring more attacking or pace orientated positions to undertake. Lo Duca however is the clear best of the three and should look to be something of a steel curtain between the pipes based on how he has played in Cosumar's youth fixtures. Szekeres has good reach despite being on the smaller side and that CAP thinks she is worth the risk has to speak volumes of the upside that the young lady has, though she is the number three pick right now, with Liliána's more experience giving her the edge to the back up position right now.

Defenders
LB: Katinka Szöllôsy, age 18, Peynol-Lunas (F)
LB: Vjekoslav Tomić, age 19, Stilinkeep FC
CB: Renata Novaković, age 19, Baskita FC (F)
CB: Lazar Meier, age 18, Directus Image
CB: Laurent Chandonnet, age 20, Tanrısal
CB: Nadine Fenstermacher, age 20, Duke of the North (F)
RB: Igor Topić, age 19, Ramusok United Image
RB: Raynaldo Puga Burgos, age 17, Santos Luega
Two years ago, the defenders were billed as the best group that the team had put together and then promptly decided to play as one of the worst groups the Young Wanderers had had in recent memory. Combine that performance with aging out and the eight defenders making the trek to Valanora this time are a whole completely different set. The best among them is likely Chandonnet, who gets some spot starts with Tani, and some think might be part of the national team program if he continues to develop well. The left wing is likely going to be an issue, with no outstanding player to pick from, such that a pair of mediocre and streaky players get the call up. Topić is looking to come along nicely, as are Meier, though given what clubs and leagues that the pair are playing for, should come as no big surprise, nor should be the calm certainty that both players seem to play with.

Midfielders
RW: Ádám Berecz, age 20, Baskita FC
RW: Malika Földy, age 21, Galatica (F)
D/MC: Szalyk Földessy, age 16, Samaj FC Image
MC: Maximilian Mueller, age 21, Stein-los Turkish
MC: Georges Cervántez Guardado, age 20, Santos Luega
MC: Ceylan Versteege, age 20, Peynol-Lunas (F)
LW: Becse Sultés, age 17, Baskita FC
LW: Jan Gersten, age 18, Bastion Image
The line of impressive Baskita youngster continues on, with Berecz developing into a leading player out on the right hand side, while Sultés will look to emulate that same level of play and superb crossing ability on the left, though Gersten definitely has the upperhand on the left after a pair of seasons of playing in Eura, even if just spot appearances. In the middle, the third Földessy brother gets a call up maybe not so much on his own ability but on how good both of his brothers are. Mueller is looking to build upon what was a disappointing run out two years ago and live up to his family name, with both Guardado and Versteege playing more well rounded than the other two center midfielders. It is not the strongest midfield that the Young Wanderers have ever put together, but there is a lot of talent and potential in there that can come good if Császár can get the group to play as a cohesive unit.

Strikers
ST: Adrián Makai, age 18, CA Paulinthal
AMC/ST: Alexander Jager, age 20, Dwile Warriors Image
ST: Petar Galić, age 20, Hellinic Rouge
ST: Réka Szôllôssi, age 18, Stein-los Turkish (F)
Another two years has seen the talent that Jager has continue to blossom and this will probably be the tournament where the young striker looks to convince the manager to bring him into the full senior squad once World Cup qualifying begins. Galic's hard work continues to pay off, though just enough to keep the strong Makai from the second starting spot. Réka Szôllôssi is the biggest unknown in this group, though the Turkish striker has shown fairly well in the youth leagues, despite not making a huge fuss about herself. A little bit on the taller side, she looks to combine good speed and natural striking power, when afforded the opportunities to get on the pitch.

This is John McCann's second cycle in charge, after the SFA decided to replace Kagami at the end of DBC-39. McCann's first tournament as manager was a resounding success, with the former Handon United and Schottia star powering through the group stages before eventually finishing third. McCann is now one of the rising stars of Schottic management, and his name has already been linked with several big jobs in the SPL. His only previous managerial experience was a season spent as interim boss of the Willox Street Pirates, where he helped them lift the Super-League title. McCann plays a conventional four-four-two formation, with a slight emphasis on attack.

GK. Rebecca Hartereny, Image 20Height: 185cm. Weight: 70kg

It might pose a bit of a problem for Schottia, the fact that they don't currently have a keeper with any first team experience. David MacRudder is by all accounts very good between the sticks, but this is going to be a big ask for a player who normally takes to the field in the Reserve League. Realistically he is going to need to move away from United if he wants to do anything other than keep the bench warm, so this is a big opportunity for him. His deputy, Rebecca Hartereny, is possibly someone with a fair bit of potential, but again, isn't really playing at the right level to claim that No.1 jersey outright. She may well go far, but this is too early to say for the gangly academy star.

Dawn Morham is the standout name in the defensive line up, with the Marionville girl coming in off the back of a great SPL season. The left-back has proven herself to be a powerful runner, and is likely to be one of the side's biggest attacking threats also. On the right, Breakers defender Watton Olrig hasn't played a great deal of first team football, but he is expected to be given a starting berth next season, and should perform solidly at this level. As a senior member of this squad now, John Hare will be an important player at centre-back. The former Handon United star was in hot demand over the summer, opting to team up with a former Schottia U21 manager, Jock Sonny at Ramusok United. Adaly Berger is a little bit of a shoehorn job alongside him, as the Cornellians girl normally operates at left-back. Bonnie McGillivray, recently signed for Mliona-Lpaka in Turori is another player to keep your eye on, should she get a bit of game time.

The Schottia midfield looks pretty settled, and that could be where this team's real strength lies. The starting four were all here two years ago, and are now looking stronger and more experienced. The quick and agile Giants winger, Kirsty Nevay, will start on the right, opposite Billy McCorralie, another rapid wing forward who has been making waves at Kings Park under the mentorship of Raven Cullen. The team also have a reliable midfield anchor in the form of Ana Aytoun, who has been an ever-present figure for Bara Waves over the last year and a half. Alongside her is team captain, Seyda Artîn, who unavoidably draws comparisons to former Pirates teammates McDonald and Bronte. Artîn has been performing very well for the Christopheran side in UICA competition, and is not far off a full call-up. Of the reserves, right winger Anna Meyreani really is a player to watch, and has future Schottia star written all over her. Robbie McSuol is also a bit of a wild card, who despite his performances in the second tier, absolutely flopped with Port Patrick last season.

ST. Jack Jevđenijević, Image Oldhem Knights 19. Height: 182cm. Weight: 70kg
ST. Keeva Crowe Image Port Sebastian, 19. Height: 178cm. Weight: 69kg

There are a few really exciting prospects for Schottia in attack, with Jack Avelione making a long awaited debut. Unable to play in the Independents Cup due to a knock, the Bastion attacker should be more than capable at this level with the pace and power he possesses. John Fyfe alongside him is a much more stable option. The 21-year-old made a few starts for Cornellians last season after making the switch from Granton Vale, and looks like a tidy centre-forward. Nine million man, Jack Jevđenijević, was on electric form for the Whalers last season - so good that he caught the eye of big-spending Oldhem Kights. Finally, Keeva Crowe is fast approaching a starting slot with Port Sebastian, and could also be a valuable addition to this squad.

FILINDOSTAN
National Under-21 Football Team
Di Bradini Cup 42

The Filindostan Football Federation is pleased to present the Filindostan National Under-21 football team, to compete in the 42nd Di Bradini Cup, in Valanora. Despite disappointing in the last edition of the tournament also held in the Atlantian Oceania nation, the young Filindostanis hope to put the struggles of two years ago behind them and make a mark in the footballing multiverse.

About the Filindostan Football Federation

The Filindostan Football Federation (FFF) was founded after they split from the Filindostani National Sports Commission (FNSC), citing the FNSC's tainted image during the Multiverse Boxing Organization boxing tournament and the budget cut the agency suffered. The newly-established federation caters to the nation's footballing affairs and sanctions the selection of the senior, under-21 and under-15 squads. The FNSC will remain the agency for fielding other national football teams that are not sanctioned by the FFF.

The FFF's headquarters are located in San Marco, Filindostan, and is headed by Estrelitta "Estie" Barzagia.

Kits
Image

Local kit supplier, No Nonsense, provides the kits for the Pula Garuda. The kits will be used until the World Cup 81 season. The home kits are clad in red and are usually paired with black shorts and white socks. For color clashes in shorts and socks, they use their all red kit. Their alternate kit is white, usually with red shorts and socks, but can be black shorts and white socks in case of color clashes. The goalie kit is all black (or in black shorts and socks), but in case of color clashes, a yellow version of the GK kit is available.

The same kit used by the Pula Garuda is also being used by the Under-21 team.

Team RP and Permissions
The below information will help teams RP against my team in case they RP first.

Fans
Filindostani fans are double-edged swords - sometimes they are most passionate fans in Filindostan, sometimes, they can be compared to the worst of internet trolls. Around five thousand diehard fans will travel to the host nation to watch their team play - but they usually bring their megaphones and flares with them - they somehow make it past the guards. Some fans are crazy enough to invade the pitch and cause match delays.

My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my lineup: Yes
Choose my goalscorers: Yes
Godmod scoring events: No
RP injuries to my players: Yes - I'll determine the severity.
Godmod injuries to my players: No - Absolutely no death here please.
Hand out yellow cards to my players: Yes
Hand out red cards to my players: Yes
Godmod other events: No

Legend had it that a team of plucky Sunrisians conquered the world twice, impressing bystanders and shutting down nay-sayers. This isn't a tale of equal standing, but rather, the story of how the distant grandchildren of those men and women came in town, decked in the closest to a set of royal colours possible with the wish to do them better.

RP PERMISSIONS
As you might've noticed, some of these players aren't human. Just wanted to point out they're still fairly close to being human, just in case. Please don't kill them. Injuries for large stretches of time have to be informed by telegram, or else they'll get the ignore cannon treatment. Anything else (bar anything that destroys any city of the empire or its' people, just in case anyone gets a bit too creative) is fine by me.

ROSTER

Goalkeepers
Leo Glasvyrn - GK (Image New Oxford Nucleus) - Age 18
Bella Ozuar - GK (Image Lake Cenial Chimeras) - Age 20
Scarlett Omarion - GK (Image Westgreen & Trent Albion) - Age 18

This was a tough group for manager Arthur Arathilion to choose his favored starting player from, with all three keepers getting solid play time within the Terranean League East. Glasvyrn has good reflexes and judgement but needs more guidance on how to coordinate the defense; Ozuar can direct the defense well, but can't read crosses or passes; Omarion is a solid sweeper-keeper but leaves herself open to offensive moves all too often. However, Glasvyrn is currently considered Ceni's hottest prospect in this department and so will be Arathilion's first choice.

Defenders
Felix Farthen - CB (Image Somer City and Surrounds) - Age 19
Sahara Espereth - CB (Image Olympic Nassau Bay) - Age 18
Zarel Sontebren - CB (Image Royal Queenstown) - Age 19
Catia Andrade - CB (Image Polaris) - Age 18
Gavin Nightingale - LB (Image Westgreen & Trent Albion) - Age 17
Hermes Pennington - RB (Image Westgreen & Trent Albion) - Age 17

Surprisingly, the defense might be the deepest part of Ceni's Di Bradini Cup roster this edition. Two-thirds of the center-back pairing that anchored the defense last time around, Felix Farthen and Zarel Sontebren, will return, while Sahara Espereth earned a promotion to replace Ariana Guri-Montague in the starting lineup. Many commentators have tipped those four players as the future of the Cenian national team defense, so the pressure's on them to live up to their mantle. If they don't, or the wings pose too much of a problem for Arathilion, there's a credible backup line to take their place. Catia Andrade of Bojikstan chose to represent Ceni after her national team went kablooey, and Gavin Nightingale and Hermes Pennington both did fairly well on the wings playing for the most recent SBCC runners-up.

Midfielders
Byron Kynaston - DM/CM (Image New Oxford Nucleus) - Age 16
Avi Renning - CM (Image Port Sebastian) - Age 19
Zane Kirchner - CM (Image Strat City) - Age 17
Vallek Ryscandor - CM/LM (Image New Oxford Nucleus) - Age 18
Thartan Kailrethrin - CM/RM (Image New Oxford Nucleus) - Age 18
Austin Regen - DM (Image Apex Academy) - Age 16

One of the two best players on the team, Avi Renning won a Globe Cup two years ago, and afterward won a move to the premier Schottian side Port Sebastian thanks to his solid skills, a listing of which would likely overrun this short preview. He'll play in the deep-lying playmaker role in this midfield; Zane Kirchner, a phenom now on the first team at Strat City, will play in the box-to-box midfielder role, helping with both the offensive and defensive roles. Finally, Byron Kynaston, the New Oxford Nucleus defensive midfielder, will help form a link between the midfield and the defense, but working more often on covering the defense. Ryscandor and Kailrethrin will reprise their backup roles from the last Di Bradini Cup; Apex Academy's promising holding midfielder Austin Regen will round out the second line.

Attacking Midfielders
Marco Santa Oria - (R)AM (Image Lexington Victory) - Age 16
Eoin Tregony - (L)AM (Image Ansharmuj Marusi) - Age 16
Felix Lauderslag - AM (Image New Oxford Nucleus) - Age 16
Sean Seafire - AM (Image Whitehaven Triumph) - Age 18

The choice for the two attacking midfield slots - Marco Santa Oria and Eoin Tregony have both performed well for their teams, with the former player winning the Rushmori Copa di Campeones recently with Lexington Victory, where he will help to fill Avi Renning's shoes, and the latter earning a move to Ansharmuj Marusi of Farfadillis from Cenial Liberty, where he was one of the top scorers. Meanwhile, Lauderslag and Seafire should find much in common - both are explosive personalities, both on and off the pitch, with tempers to match.

Strikers
Iain Cyn-Penzag - ST (Image Zoloroni City) - Age 21
Sascha Falkenrath - ST (Image Willox Street Pirates) - Age 20
Jalek Westmore - ST (Image Whitehaven Triumph) - Age 18
Harrison Novog - ST (Image Apex Academy) - Age 16

Iain Cyn-Penzag and Sascha Falkenrath form the core of the returning team that reached the finals of the Di Bradini Cup last year, and both are gunning for a title on their last go-round. They are by far one of the best striker combinations heading into this tournament. Cyn-Penzag is lighting up Mercedini's league, scoring quite a few goals, while Willox Street Pirates have been perennial UICA contenders and are one of the top 25 sides in the world. With plenty of big-match experience under their belts, this duo is a strong threat to score plenty of goals. The backups for striker are less credible, with Jalek Westmore returning and an Apex Academy striker, Harrison Novog, rounding out the striking pool.

OVERALL INFORMATION

Ceni's senior team has consistently gained the reputation of being a very attacking side - send the ball up the field and try to score on it. However, during the World Cup qualifying campaign, this strategy - which emphasized heading up to the goal, no matter what the cost - proved to be Ceni's undoing as lesser-rated sides took advantage of overextensions and lack of credible threats in the midfield. In the 35th Di Bradini Cup, Manager Corran Artis decided to, instead, look into developing more competent midfielders and defenders on the youth side of the coin in order to rectify this glaring problem. Indeed, during training camp, Artis urged his team to be smart about their attacking play - go when there is an opportunity, not just when they have the ball. He realized that opportunistic play would be the best way for Ceni's football to further develop, and he has taken that ideal to heart when training Ceni's first ever Di Bradini Cup team and selecting their formation. Many football observers have noted that it was among Ceni's best crop of youngsters, with several young and emerging talents present on this team. Because these players know each other - and, indeed, have played with each other, as part of the Pinnacle Project - they have developed strong bonds of friendship and teamwork. The Cenian Football Federation hoped that the combination of the talent and Artis's innovative football strategy would produce a good run for Ceni's team at the Di Bradini Cup. They did have a good run, with Kira Koromin declared the best player of the tournament as the Cenian team reached the finals, losing to fierce rivals Cosumar.

Artis, however, was forced to retire from his post due to health issues, and the Cenian Football Federation, in keeping with their new adoption of the System Takil principles, appointed a new manager to head up the Cenian Di Bradini Cup team: Peter Petrossian, a Cenian of Armenian descent, who was one of the initial promulgators of that principle within the CFF itself. He formulated an aggressive strategy that tried to pressure the opponents and allow the team to convert off even the slightest of opportunities. He also selected a fairly flexible 3-3-3-1 formation for this tournament, with the midfield able to easily convert from offense to defense. Despite playing down the importance of the defense, Petrossian focused his efforts on the midfield as well as the forwards, believing that any success must come from the midfield; strikers can't create chances without help from the midfield, he believes. The team recorded an undefeated group stage before losing in an upset to Quebec in the Round of 16. While the team was unable to avenge their loss to Quebec directly, the team recorded an outstanding campaign in DBC 38; despite a group-stage loss to Schottia, the team came in first in their group again and lit up the elimination rounds before winning on penalty kicks against San Llera to take home Ceni's first title in football, of any kind. They entered DBC 39 as the defending champions, and were one match away from being only the second nation to successfully defend their title when they lost in the final to Pasarga. They vowed revenge on the Pasargans and hope to reclaim the most prestigious youth football title, but again crashed out in the Round of 16 to an unheralded team. Seems familiar, right? Except for the manager - Petrossian couldn't pass up a good offer at Whitehaven Triumph, so that team's former manager, Arthur Arathilion, has now moved to manage the Cenian U-21 team. Arathilion's style is slightly more aggressive than Petrossian's, with a larger emphasis on the forwards, but it should work for the Cenians. Hoping that DBC 41 will be a good run and lead to another title for Ceni's youngsters, on his first managerial run to boot, Arathilion guided his team to the final before losing, heartbreakingly, to Kita-Hinode. However, they're ready for a second bite at the cherry.

The Pony Principality of Equestrian States
National U21 Hoofball Team - Di Bradini Cup 42 Roster

Introduction
The Little Ponies enter the 42nd Di Bradini Cup looking to improve on their quarterfinals appearance in the last edition of the multiverse's premier youth hoofball competition, boasting a mix of new blood and experience that supporters hope will see the Equestrians claim their second title at the under-21 level. Manager Red Dwarf had his work cut out for him, selecting the 26 player squad that will represent the Equestrian States in neighboring Valanora, but the well-regarded unicorn wound up with a team that's deep at nearly every position and has the talent to continue the tradition of success that the Equestrians proudly carry in the Di Bradini Cup.

The Equestrian States U-21 squad receives its kits from Generosity Sporting Equipment, an Equestrian-based sportswear company that has recently begun to stake a claim on the international hoofball kit market, with clubs in Atlantian Oceania and Esportiva among those to hire their designers. The Equestrian kits were designed to be simple and easy to identify, using the national colors of purple and orange.

Players

Goalkeepers
As always, the Little Ponies boast incredible depth and talent in goal, with Cyan Skies winning the starting job for this edition. The best goalkeeper to come out of Whitetail since Gentle Breeze, Cyan Skies doesn't quite have the same world-class potential that the senior team's current superstar keeper did when she occupied the U21 job, but the pegasus has nonetheless done exceptionally well for the Foresters in the United League since taking over for Gentle Breeze. Backing up Cyan Skies are Shooting Star, the current second-choice keeper at perennial Equestrian title-favorites Ponyville United, and Archangel, a griffoness from New Cloudsdale who has recently claimed the starting job at Stalliongrad HC.

On Species and Equestrian Hoofball
The Equestrian States is a nation of incredible diversity. When many countries make this kind of statement, they are referring only to racial matters dealing with differences in skin color or culture. But the Equestrian States takes diversity to a whole new level, with dozens of sapient species living alongside each other in harmony. From pegasai to griffons, and humans to dragons, the Equestrian States is among the most diverse nations known to exist. But diversity has also had a unique and intriguing impact on the playing of sports in the Equestrian States, and hoofball is no exception. In the following paragraphs, the natural strengths, weaknesses, and tendencies of each prominent species in the Equestrian States will be explored, offering those unfamiliar with the Equestrian States a chance to explore the wonderful diversity that makes the Equestrian States a great country and gives our beloved national hoofball team a versatility that few others can hope to match.

The Team:

Manager: Didier Jacques gets his second go at being the Manager of the U-21 Squad, having gone out in the Group Stages last time around by virtue of finishing third behind Mercedini and Albaie. This tournament remains the one that the Chromatiks have historically had the least success in, never having made it past the Round of Sixteen. Gone are the likes of Molly Thorben and Mia Ria, and what remains is (besides a few notable exceptions) what is basically a Junior and under All-Star Team of the Chromatik Collegiate Football Association. Jacques brings a background of working with young students, having been a University Coach himself; he will need to be on top of his game if he is to get this bunch of rivals to work with each other. With the Senior team having just won the AOCAF, expectations are high to keep up the momentous upswing the nation is in, and anything past a Quarterfinal berth may see Jacques return to the club managing ranks.

Goalkeeper: To watch the CCFA last season was to watch great defense, and the three being represented here were the very best. Hildred Reber won the Golden Glove by conceding a ridiculous twenty-three goals in thirty games, but Drew Kardos and Idell Admire weren't too far back at 26 goals allowed apiece. Although it's Reber starting in goal for the first match, if he is to falter, Jacques may be tempted to go to his other options. In terms of style, Reber is an aggressive keeper who likes to meet strikers at the front of the net and block them out with his considerable size, while Kardos is more of an in-the-moment, reflexive stopper and Admire is as traditional as they come. They don't bring as much hype as a Kimi Herrington and Nova Williams of past CCFA seasons, but they have conceded the least amount of goals the CCFA has ever seen, and have great potential.

Defenders: It's hard to not talk about Henri de Aea when we come to this group. Despite being the youngest, he is being hailed as the next Luuk Aart, and it's not hard to see why. How the other twenty-one year old players will tolerate being compared to a seventeen-year old prodigy will be what makes ore breaks this defense. On paper, the worst defense that any of them played for conceded thirty-five goals in thirty matches. Three of them hail from Deprí Theological Seminary, known as a school that only admits students once every four years; the trio of Hilbert, Lasky, and Driscoll have been playing with each other for a long time. Kulinski is the wild card, being more of a wingback than a traditional left back, and may add to the attack; besides she, de Aea, and Lasky - who has massive hops to make up for his height - this group doesn't stand out, but can't be pegged as a weakness either. Can players from five distinct University systems jell with a pro to be playing in Eura, though?

Midfielders: If there is a group that can lead this team to victory, it's this group. Han has been one of the saving graces at Titanderth, and the best hope for them staying alive in the SuperLiga's top tier. Armageddon's the Captain, and a deserving one - a one-eyed general who feels the goings-on on the pitch and calmly plies his craft. Silvie is a young Kelly waiting to be unleashed - a new generation of stereotypical Chromatik midfielder with finesse, speed, and a relentless motor. Also of note is one Wayne Knowles, who might be the best free-kick taker in the team. As this group goes, the team goes.

Attacking Midfielders: Andréa Croix-Pierre is still waiting for her moment to shine at Whiteheaven, but she is definitely one of the brightest prospects to play this hybrid position. Yinx Theo, on the other hand, is an assist specialist - most his goals come off of rebounds. If they need another pure scorer, Zander Eko is available.

Striker: Most Chromatik strikers are small, fast, and like to dart in. Xochitl "X" Tetreault is the polar opposite. He is tall, lumbering, and physically imposing, a beanstalk to hit a ball around. Truly, a new breed of Chromatik striker. Crosland fits more of the Trenn Rien vibe, which is odd as a one-top, but maybe when he's on the pitch, one of the attacking mids will help on the attack.

Strategy: The formula is to contain all damage with the back four and feed the ball to Armageddon. He will distribute it as it is best to get the ball on the attack. Tetreault will lurk to score the goals in front, while Croix-Pierre and either of Theo or Eko will seek to get him the ball. The plan relies a bit too much on Armageddon, but the kid seems to do well under pressure, so far.

National Anthem--"Hear Our Voices Commonwealth"
Region--The North Pacific

Nickname--since the end of the 1960's the National Team has been known as "The Bees", a period when the team's uniforms had alternating black and gold hoops. The bee is an element on the coat of arms of the Commonwealth, but the association was actually a reference made in an Italian newspaper game story when the senior team was wearing the hooped shirts.

Colors--Black & Gold (while they are just 2 of the 5 main colors on the flag of Baker Park--Blue, Red and White are the others--black & gold have been closely associated in the nation's consciousness as representative of the country since its founding.)

Home Stadium--the National Team plays home matches at various sites, but the traditional home field, which has hosted more full internationals than any other stadium in the Commonwealth, is Presidents Park in Shirley, State of St Leon. The Under-21 team plays a large number of home matches at the 15,000 seat Hamilton City Stadium, in Baker Park State, and also hosts matches at Hillsborough Stadium in Belle Haven.

Three Big Reasons:
Why Cosumar will (and won't) win the DBC

brought to you by E-Egret, aggregating AO's most-clicked digital content

The international soccer calendar does not slow down! Mere weeks after celebrating the AOCAF 3rd Place trophy, millions of footie fanatics around the Fiefdom now turn their eyes (and hearts) to Valanora for the 63rd bi-annual U21 World Cup.

Though it's capped at 32 teams and all the players are just college-aged kids, the competition is held in high prestige due to its storied association with multiverse heroes like Simeone Di Bradini. As a viewing spectacle, it makes up for its relative lack of starpower intrigue by acting as a proven springboard for the future stars of the game. Watching the Di Bradini Cup is almost like watching a sneak-preview of what your senior national team could look like a World Cup or two down the line!

New to the whole thing? Well, congratulations, you've picked the perfect time to make your first foray into youth soccer. This is easily the best-looking Cosumar U21 team in quite awhile - on paper at least. The recently-released squad list has many clamoring for the Junior Dragons take flight once again and make a deep run for the first time since winning DBC 35.

Here are our top three reasons why you should buy into the h y p e...and a potential counterpoint for each.

Reason #1. Bryger Tidesson and Isla Sibučić

WILL: Hey! You! Even you, Mr. Footie Noob over there, probably knows these names! The obvious headliners of Cosumar's DBC contingent, Bryger Tidesson and Isla Sibučić are already pretty much the best players for the senior national team. They boast a combined 64 caps, 17 goals and 25 assists over the last World Cup cycle or so. These 21-year-olds are also already full-fledged stars at the club level. Both have recently won leaguewide Player of the Year honors in Cosumar and Schottia, respectively. If you haven't pieced it together by now, these two are as experienced as they come in this competition. This is Tidesson and Sibučić's third consecutive DBC lining up together as starters - a rare feat given the limited age range of the competition. Assuming the third time's the charm (fingers crossed), they should be able to channel their familiarity and pedigree to take Cosumar all the way. Or at least prevent the humiliating 6-1 early exit we got last time (thanks, Pasarga).

WON'T: There's a reason why many in Cosumarite soccer circles were surprised to see Tidesson and Sibučić called up. Pleasantly surprised, to be sure, but still surprised. The young stars were reportedly adamant on taking their last shot of eligibility at a Di Bradini Cup, but the Fiefdom Soccer Federation might've been better-served to leave them home and let them rest up for their rapidly-approaching domestic seasons with Real Azuris and Cornellians. Between World Cup 79, various UICA extracurriculars, AOCAF LV and now a U21 tournament, the busy duo have basically played right through their offseason.....and have done so two consecutive cycles now. Fatigue HAS to be an issue, right? Especially since they're still young and haven't yet reached peak physical stamina. Coming straight off playing every minute of a deep AOCAF run, it's hard to imagine Tidesson and Sibučić both having enough in the tank to carry the Junior Dragons through several condensed rounds of matches in Valanora.

Reason #2. Positional Depth and Flexibility

WILL: ...But they may not need to! A Härlighet Ligan youth movement over the last two years has supplied the U21s with a nice little influx of players who have established themselves as difference-makers for good teams at those positions. The entire midfield, both centrally and on the wings, has never been more stacked. Mehmet Curwyk, almost an afterthought opposite Tidesson, just won the HL and would've been the face of many past DBC squads. Teenager Kai-Kai Mokumdarian is a versatile force who has been receiving his fair share of Junior Galactico buzz. He can take over matches from pretty much any of the five midfield positions with his hustle and calm confidence on the ball. And just look at those names on the bench! My, my. Zoë Aedelbrandt was a key cog in an OAS Royal attack that nearly broke the goals record last season and can play on either wing. Swiss army knife August Chappelle was a revelation for Kennedy Kopenhaver in Mallox last season and should push Fireblade hard for minutes. Tall and methodical, Tofer Kahlor is a very different style of playmaker than Sibučić, but has been effective for Champions Cup-bound Oljestaden. Altogether, this side has enough talent to lighten the load on its "Big 2" and avoid a drop-off should either one become indisposed or ineffective. The central defense also has a very deep U21 pool, with a pair of Real Azuris standouts edging out promising prospects in Electrum and Eura for MD1 (one very highly-rated CB, Bastion's Eero Solari, had to be left out entirely). Every team has one or two top players, but having options to threaten teams in a multitude of ways is the true hallmark of championship squads. That's why these Junior Dragons will do it.

WON'T: Yeah, sure, Lyndalyn Alford has an embarrassment of riches in some positions, mainly the midfield five, which is admittedly crucial, but... not as much in others. Look up top, for example. Though Cosumar's deepest position at the senior level, we're all of a sudden alarmingly thin on U21 strikers coming up behind them. Zak Nyström's good. He's banged in double-digit goals two seasons running in Samotath, but he's a certain downgrade from previous starter Vega Zeale-Riddick. Who's leading the line if something happens to Nyström? Or what if we want to play with two strikers? Behind Nyström, the corps consists of strikers who just enjoyed their very first breakout seasons... in Kita-Hinode (Adedirdan) and Sekundar Ligan (Riise). Both could turn out to be great, but they're unknown commodities coming in here. You have to think a DBC-winning squad needs more than one proven striker. And if you DO rely on just one, they better have that VZR-esque killer instinct. The Junior Dragons could also be better in front of their own goal. Trent Fielding is steady and mature for his age but probably doesn't have the tools to ever be an elite goalkeeper, while Edith Tidesson has much more potential but is still raw. In a group with ultra-defensive Taeshan and ultra-offensive Farfadillis, potential frailty at striker and goalkeeper could leave Cosumarite fans with high expectations frustrated.

Reason #3. Lyndalyn Alford: A New Voice

WILL: The "new manager bump" is not a myth, and it will combine with the above factors to create the perfect storm in Valanora. Johannes Sulo may have won DBC 35, but it was clear that a change was needed after he followed it up with only one knockout round victory in the next six tournaments. One. A certain apathy had crept into his teams. Hell, the entire U21 program, top to bottom, seemed content with their routine Round of 16 exits, flashing just enough group stage promise to tide fans over until the next one. Lyndalyn Alford is soft-spoken, but has high standards for young players. She expects their best...and usually gets it. She'll shake off the malaise of recent DBCs and light a fire under this group. Further, her familiarity with key players such as Liesl Vanzanto and the Tidesson trio from coaching them to UICA Youth Cups will come in handy as she acclimates. Alford can lean on them to help transfer that Azurian youth culture seamlessly to the national set-up.

WON'T: The "new manager bump" isn't a myth, but it's not a rule either. It takes time to install a new system and new personnel, especially in the U-whatever context where players have limited professional experience. ...And a manager who has limited international experience. Lyndalyn Alford inherited an already-bustling conveyor belt of talent at Azuris and has never had to establish a culture from scratch. Even if she's the right woman to get the U21 program heading back in the right long-term direction, it's unlikely we will see immediate dividends in this tournament. It might be best to temper expecta--

...Naaaah. Who are we kidding? This is a damn good team that has been assembled and, to be honest, it was rather difficult to refute our BIG THREE REASONS why. So, what do you think? Can the Junior Dragons add a second U21WC to that glass cabinet in Kaldukosic? It might look good next to that AOCAF 3rd Place trophy...

DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF ABANHFLEFT
NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL TEAM - MIXED

This will be the eleventh time that Abanhfleft will be participating in the Di Bradini Cup. Ever since the team finished third in Di Bradini 33, it has been a period of ups and downs for the team. First, Di Bradini 34, considered as Abanhfleft's best chance to have won some silverware, was mysteriously discontinued for unknown reasons. Then the team was knocked out in the group stages of Di Bradini 35 by Farfadillis, and then they were knocked out in the round of 16 of Di Bradini 36 by a Pasarga team that decided to show up at that exact game. And then in Di Bradini 37, they were knocked out by a very motivated Tumbra side. Di Bradini 38 was when they failed to survive Tomikosan. In Di Bradini 39, Ceni tripped up Abanhfleft in extra time, and in Di Bradini 40, Abanhfleft ended up propping up the rest of Group B after a matchday three draw against the Iron Syndicate. And in Di Bradini 41, the Young Revolutionaries were simply disappointing. Will Di Bradini 42 finally be the tournament where Abanhfleft's youngsters win it all anything? There's only one way to find out...

BASIC INFORMATION
Name of nation: Democratic Republic of Abanhfleft
Demonym: Fleftic
Team colors: Blue, orange, and green
Style modifier: +3.5
Formation: 4-2-3-1 (This will be standard unless I change it through RPs)
Head coach: Elmo Bevan (57 y/o, Wales)

STARTERS
GK: Guildenstern CARDEW 18 y/o, Sporting Ceneisis Image, male
Guildenstern Cardew is the younger brother of former Panem striker Silvia Cardew. After Panem was enveloped by a mysterious Catastrophic Termination Event (or CTE), the Cardews eventually managed to wind up on the shores of the Fhulghamous Peninsula Colony along with a large number of their fellow Panemian nationals. Guildenstern was eventually picked up by Besanza Emeralds FC of the Fhulghamousian Premier League. Guildenstern decided to emulate his Panemian idol Walnut Durant and become a goalkeeper even though his sister Silvia is a striker. Guildenstern is also very close friends with Marius Rosenkrantz the soccer player (because of course they would be friends) but it looks like Guildenstern might have something more than just friendship in his eyes and heart for Marius...

RB: Georgine BAUM 18 y/o, Pascal Mashu Image (Kita-Hinode), female
Another player with foreign roots playing for the Democratic Republic. This time, Georgine's parents are immigrants, or rather expats, from Pridnestrovia, who escaped the country after her father said a few things that were not to President Field Marshal Stepan Stepanenko's liking. Georgine is more than likely to play for Abanhfleft in the future, but stranger things have happened. Arkadia Zubarenko did end up playing for Pridnestrovia after years in Abanhfleft's youth teams. Baum has always played on the left before so seeing her on the right side this time could be a bit of a shock for her but apparently people trust Georgine to hit the ground running after being thrown off the deep end, so....

RCB: Hamad Ahmed KHALED 20 y/o, Pasargad Manitogoro Image (Oontaz), male
Hamad Ahmed Khaled is just the shortened version of his full name, which is Mohammed Mahmoud Hamad Ahmed Khaled Salman Idris Muammar el-Sennousi al-Iraqiyah. Try fitting all that onto a jersey. It certainly beats the likes of Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink, though, which is why Hamad had it shorted to just Hamad Ahmed Khaled. Hamad is the son of the Emir of Tall Afar with his fifth wife, who is a Fleftic citizen, hence Hamad's eligibility for the Democratic Republic. His strengths lie in his height, aerial ability, and good command of both his area and his fellow defenders. If he develops properly as a player then he could even end up being captain material for both club and country, although having a Fleftic citizen as the Emir of Tall Afar could cause a problem or two in the Sultanate of Oontaz.

LCB: Christy SHEPLEY 19 y/o, Rosenpfelblatz City Ladies Image, female
At 6 feet 2 inches, Christy is already one of the tallest under-21 Fleftic central defenders ever in the Democratic Republic and its sphere of influence. Coupled with a supernatural defensive ability, it's a wonder why she's still on the bench and not starting, until one realizes that Christy is quite the thin and willowy girl. She's a good defender and good in aerial and dead-ball situations, there's no doubt about that, but she has to bulk up and get stronger if she is to become one of Abanhfleft's best defenders. She is finally elevated to the starting eleven following Miranda Sullins' graduation to the senior team.

LB: Caleb WAYNE 21 y/o, Wanda Island Wanderers Image, male, captain
Caleb isn't a regular starter for any of the junior squads before this, but the few substitute appearances that he made from the bench earned him a big money move to Fluvique's Darwin City (3 million NSD, to be exact). Like many of the defensive players coming through Abanhfleft's academies in recent times, Caleb is a defender, specifically a left back, who likes to bomb forward when the opportunity arises, although he does do his defensive duties as well if called upon, thus giving him the potential to be a wingback or even a winger. He's also quite good in the air and could be relied on when defending set pieces or winning air balls. Now plays for Wanda Island Wanderers after a Catastrophic Termination Even engulfed Fluvique and left him among one of the few survivors.

RM: Trinidad KLEIST 20 y/o, Xemlice Rovers Ladies Image, female
At such a young age, Trinnie, as she likes to be called, is already developing into a no-nonsense center defensive midfielder, breaking up attacks and stopping counters. Unfortunately, that also means a lot of bookings and the occasional red card for her. Trinnie still has to learn to control herself, and surely she can keep a cool head now that she's playing on the international stage?

LM: Cecily SEGOVIA 20 y/o, Ladies of Santos FC Image (Oontaz Dert Li Ng) on loan from Riuwiee United Women Image, female
CeCe is the foil to Trinidad Kleist's hard-hitting CDM. The Oontaz-born central midfielder is the creative outlet for the midfield, setting up passes and long balls to initiate the attack. But that doesn't mean she shirks from her defensive responsibilities. Still, like Trinnie, CeCe is still a bit enthusiastic with the sliding tackles and will get her name on the referee's notebook a fair few times. Another member of the second-place under-15 team from Schottia who got an inclusion into the under-21 team.

RW: Sohaila MAGOMEDOVA 20 y/o, Exiles FK Image (Pridnestrovia), female
The daughter of a Pridnestrovian father and a Nordskanian mother who was born on Fleftic soil, Sohaila is one of Heinrich Wurzmann's latest finds from the Alternative Football Program. Her idols growing up were tricky players like Finn Jameson, Ruud Akinfenyor, and Matthew Cave, and Sohaila certainly has the feet to emulate them. Of course, being young, Sohaila's legs often get away from her and she more than occasionally trips up. But when she gets her moves right, Sohaila is unstoppable.

CAM: Kassandra PRATT 20 y/o, Riuwiee United Women Image, female
Riuwiee United are really going out of their way to make sure that their women's team is on par with the men's team. Kass has the beginnings of the playmaking attacking midfielder that the Blue Tribeswomen have sorely needed in their team, but it will still take a long, long time before she can be reasonably included into the first team. However, that long, long time appears to have arrived now as Kass is now considered ready for at least the Independents Cup.

LW: Claudia ROOS 19 y/o, Dinamo Bender Women Image (Pridnestrovia) on loan from Arsenal de Releinthi Ladies Image, female, vice-captain
They once said that Claudia is the player on the under-15 team who is most likely to end up representing another nation once she hits the senior level. Abanhfleft is enjoying Claudia's services while she's still with the team, as she is already turning into a future star winger, what with her pace, crossing ability, and incisive runs into the box. But with Claudia's inclusion into the Independents Cup squad (albeit playing as a fullback to supposedly improve the defensive side of her game), it looks like Abanhfleft has finally secured her for a future spot in the women's national team.

ST: Kelly McGINNIS 18 y/o, Hoventon & Corlington Town Image (Mercedini), female
The undisputed star of the under-18 team is now part of the under-21 team as well. Kelly McGinnis could very well be the next Chelsea Stuart. Lord knows she's got the raw talent in her veins and her feet. Her only problem is in getting out of Besanza to continue her development and make sure that it's on the right track to actually making her the next Chelsea Stuart. Kelly wants to move abroad to develop herself in a world-class side, and she believes that the Sporting World Cup is her way to gaining that attention and getting that move abroad. She did get that sought-after move, but not exactly to where she expected: she's on loan to Mercedini where she hopes she can make an impact.

RESERVES (All players are members of their league team's youth squads unless otherwise noted)
GK: Bronwyn CHURCHILL 18 y/o, Rosenpfelblatz City Ladies Image, female
Bronwyn is the daughter of Rosenpfelblatz City's new manager Joseph "Joe" Churchill, one of the most decorated managers in the sport within the Fleftic sphere of influence. Bronwyn came with her dad to Rosenpfelblatz and immediately settled in well with the Lady Sky Blues' academy. She is a traditional keeper who prefers to keep close to goal and catch or slap away shots from that position, although she is learning to become a more athletic keeper now that she's training with the likes of Yannie Redborne, Marfa Kirilenko, and Blaze Chrzanowska. It should be noted that Joe Churchill would have liked it more if his daughter had not wanted to be a goalkeeper, but at least he as a father won't worry about where she's been before, during, and after training because they're always in close proximity to each other.

GK: Roy RINEY 17 y/o, New Llama Capitals Image (Super-Llamaland), male
Now this is probably a sight that you didn't expect to see; a 17-year-old among a bunch of mostly twenty-years-plus players with the odd teenager here and there. Roy is the youngest member of Ranulph Bustamante's experimental Independents Cup squad but not by a big margin as the next-youngest player to him is fellow reserve goalkeeper Guildenstern Cardew. Usually, people would be questioning the inclusion of such a young player in a representative football team but once Ranulph Bustamante took over managing Abanhfleft and unearthed such gems as Robin Riedewald and Tanaka Okamoto, no one questions his decisions anymore. Besides, Riney must have done something right for Ranulph to even consider calling him up, even if it is just for the Independents Cup. Not that Ranulph thinks that the Independents Cup is a nothing trophy; it's still a trophy after all for those nations who aren't affiliated with the Big Three regions of Esportiva, Rushmore, and Atlantian Oceania.

DF: Alma WALKER 20 y/o, Rushmori Drawks Image (The Isles of Avon), female
Alma Walker is a decent right back who looks destined to be an actual right back instead of the myriad wingbacks who seem to be cropping up like weeds all over Abanhfleft's academies. Alma is actually ambidextrous with her feet and can play in both fullback positions fairly well and effectively (kind of like Tonya Heaton) but she prefers to work on the right side of the pitch. Doesn't mean that she can't do a good job on the left, though.

DF: Brooke AUGUSTYN 19 y/o, Eielo Sunlight Women Image, female
Brooke is a decent enough defender, which is just about what would be expected for someone personally approached by Godric Wexler himself. Brooke could be a future Amanda Warren (meaning that she could become one of the best fullbacks in the country), or she could be a future Deborah McManaman (who had the potential to become one of the best fullbacks in the country but couldn't really achieve it due to injuries and eventual lack of game time). It's still up in the air. The fact that Arsenal released Brooke, thus allowing her to go to Eielo as a free agent, seems to suggest that she's on her way to becoming a McManaman but the fact that she's also been called back to the Di Bradini squad also seems to suggest that she could still break out and become a star, a star that Arsenal and Godric Wexler will regret letting go so easily.

DF: Lauree McATEER 18 y/o, Marinos Thimpodopoulos Women Image (Fhulghamous Peninsula, playing the Fleftic Ladies' Premier League), female
Lauree's first international football experience was sitting on the bench of the Fleftic under-15 team during their debut appearance in the 9th Under-15 World Cup in Schottia. Although she's Port Thimpodopoulos born and bred, Lauree is being given a chance to show that she can represent the blue, orange, and green, and while she is a good and quick defender, it looks as if she's going to be warming the Fleftic bench once again. She could end up representing the Fhulghamous Peninsula when she reaches the senior level, but stranger things have happened, and there could be a national team coach out there who sees what s/he wants in Lauree and call her up.

MF: Mauro MAGNANELLI 19 y/o, Rosenpfelblatz North End Image on loan from Rosenpfelblatz City Image, male
Mauro Magnanelli is good enough for tackling people to the ground, taking free kicks and little else. It doesn't mean that he can't improve his skills, abilities, and football knowledge. There's still time for Mauro to become more than just another one-dimensional player. After a good performance in the 3rd Sporting World Cup, Mauro will join the under-21 squad as a central defensive midfielder to replace the now-ineligible Lucjo Kleinmann.

MF: Natasha BURKE 21 y/o, Riuwiee United Women Image, female
Natasha is coming in as a last-minute replacement for Yanick Grumbach, who suffered a dislocated shoulder just weeks before the start of the 2nd Under-18 World Cup. She had had a few chances to show her skills for the under-16 and under-17 teams, but she has a tendency to go on the attack a little too many times for a central defensive midfielder, something which has proved to be a concern for Riuwiee United's academy. Still, when she's not leaving the midfield open for the other team, she's good for a crucial tackle or two, but because she tends to put all of her weight behind her tackles, she already has quite a lot of yellow cards and some red cards to her name.

MF: Stephanie WINTER-SLAUGHTER 21 y/o, Marinos Thimpodopoulos Women Image (Fhulghamous Peninsula, playing in the Fleftic Ladies' Premier League), female
Winter-Slaughter's surname sounds rather weird when you consider her biggest asset is an unprecedented sense of justice, but it really is. Winter-Slaughter, while a competent midfielder with enough room to grow, became much more notorious for her actions both in and outside of the field, often helping opponents and team-mates at distress from injuries or pretty much anything else. Conquered some hearts for her kindness, funnily enough. Stephanie was given Fleftic citizenship on the recommendation of Heinrich Wurzmann after the disappearance of the Unified Sunrise Islands so that Abanhfleft could take advantage of her talents.

MF: Sheila BECK 19 y/o, Keephall Valkyries Image, female
Technically, Sheila's a central midfielder, but because of her tendency to wander the entirety of the pitch, she could theoretically play in every midfield position and even down the flanks. Recently, Keephall has began playing her in the central attacking midfielder position, and while she has to remember that she doesn't have to come and defend as much as she used to, she has a knack for well-timed tackles and can never seem to be fouled. Sheila can set up attacks as well through passing play, but her best skill is winning the ball and then making that key through-ball.

FW: Amelie RUSEV 18 y/o, Ludogorets Markovsky Ladies Image, female
Amelie Rusev is the best player on current Fleftic under-18 team after Gareth Williamson. At just 18 years old, she's already looking like the complete winger package. Not only is she both quick and light on her feet and strong in the air and during challenges, she is ambidextrous, able to use both feet to send in long balls and crosses into the box when she wants. With that added crossing ability, Amelie is already on her way to the first team of Ludogorets Markovsky Ladies at such a tender age. Kasper Molak will surely look to make Amelie the successor to Raisa Korovina as the next Miss Ludogorets.

FW: Arkady "Arlie" ROZIER 19 y/o, Admiral Porcusces Image, male
Another Pridnestrovian player born in Abanhfleft who looks like he could be poached by the Democratic People's Republic of the United Socialist States, although that possibility looks more and more remote now that Ranulph Bustamante has apparently included Arlie in his plans if his inclusion into the Independents Cup squad is any indication. Arlie has serviceable hold-up play but questionable finishing and ball distribution skills. He's also a bit selfish, preferring to shoot the ball himself even if there is a teammate in a better scoring position. But he's just 18 years old. Surely he can learn how to improve himself and his technique, right? Right? Refused a new contract with The Redvale's Maris Rovers and is now back in Abanhfleft playing for Admiral Porcusces.

FW: Karamoko BAKAYOKO 15 y/o, Uranium City Radiation Image, male

A Month Earlier
Kazama, Himawari

Rain poured on the grassy pitch. A girl stood alone, a football in front of her. She cracked her fists. Water and dirt all over her kit, a white jersey, green shorts, white socks and a simple pair of boots. The shirt had the kanji for Kazama, the city's name and also the name of the city's youth team, the All-Schools combination team. She paced with the ball, running towards the open goal. She booted from a distance, the ball lodged itself against the top bar, coming back to her. She leaped, twisting herself to kick the ball. She manages to hit a near-perfect curve... and the ball swerves off the goal. The girl landed on her back, furiously turning herself to see the ball failed to land in the net.

Momoko Ichibonji was the ever so promising striker of the Hinodejin Empire, a tale just waiting to be the stuff of legend. She saw herself as the next big Hinodejin striker... but then, season 2 came. Soon, Ichibonji was another background character as the battle between Project Olimpo and Royal Theater Preparatory grew on. Fans and scouts paid close attention to the moves of players such as Gitonga Kahara, Chan Zexi and even players for smaller teams such as one Linkan Pihanka, but Ichibonji and the Kazama squad found themselves out of favour in the big lists.

And if anyone had more trouble taking that sort of whiplash head on, that anyone had to be Momoko Ichibonji. She had to change... and she was now changing off-season as well, training every single day. A pair of eyes stared under an umbrella. He yelled. "Momoko!"

The girl ignored him, preparing once again to try the shot. She picked up the ball, dropped in the middle of the field and started to run again. She kicked the ball towards the top bar, trying again to shoot. She fell on her back again and as she looked at where the ball, she found a boy had caught the ball. Ken Waramuichi stared at her, the ball at his hands.

"What are you doing, Momoko?" He asked, getting up.

She came to tears. "I... I want to be good. I want to be popular again... I have to!"

She closed her eyes, laid down on the grass field. Her eyes opened again and she now saw him close to her. He offered a hand, talking again. "You... you don't need to do this. You've pushed yourself away from everyone... I... I miss you, Momoko." She got up with his help, sobbing. "I... I don't want the greatest player in the world. I want my friend, Momoko."

"But I want to be the greatest player ever."

She left him, taking the ball from his hands, preparing to kick again. "And you, Ken, won't stop me."

He sighed, running to the goal. "But I'll do my best to stop you!"

Corinne Martel-Burns | Polaris >>>>> Tihon Tide. $33,000,000

'Well.... fucking say something.' Connie barked. 'Instead of sitting there with a face like you've just seen my internet search history.'

'Errrm...' Ross was still doing his best to pick his jaw up off the table, massaging his forehead, as if to try and rev up his brain. 'I'm not quite sure what to say, I'm just in shock... I'm just... eh... When did they come in with thirty-tree million bid?' Ross Renshaw and Corinne Martel-Burns were sat in the minimalist cafe just opposite Handon Central station; a couple of barely touched beakers of coffee on the table in front of them. Outside them the world was passing by at a rate of knots, as businessmen, tourists, and taxis whizzed by the big glass windows of the cafe like they didn't have a second to lose. The hum of activity was doing nothing for Ross' hangover, and the striker was now regretting drowning his sorrows with the rest of team the night before. Connie, who was still unable to drink on her medication, had had an early night, and seemed oblivious to her partner's suffering.

'My agent phoned me up this morning.' Connie answered adamantly. 'Polaris have accepted the offer and I'm taking the first flight out to Chromatik City later this evening; we should be able to agree a deal within the next forty-eight hours or so... Basically, I'm just going to accept whatever, I can afford a wage cut if needs be.' Schottia's earlier than expected exit from the Independents Cup, had given them a longer than expected summer holiday. Ross had a weird fetish about camping holidays, and reluctantly, Connie had agreed to a bit of a hiking tour of Schottia. The idea of spending two weeks walking around in the rain and sleeping in a tent made her feel angry almost to the point of violence, but she had agreed to come along, as part of her ongoing attempts to be a better human being.

'Well, if that's what you think's best.' Ross shrugged reaching for his coffee and gulping at it thirstily. He didn't drink caffeinated drinks during the season, but the summer was the time of the year when he let himself go. His Blue Coast days were long behind him, and the off-season was now the only small window in which he allowed himself to indulge. When he thought back to turning up for training in San Marco, still drunk from the night before, it felt like another life entirely. Ross often wondered how Big Chad Duquez was getting on; they guy whose claim to fame was being able to down a pint in less than ten seconds. He still checked Blue Coast's results, partly to make sure that the Quebecois was still alive.

'Whatever you think's best' Connie repeated, loudly enough to get the attention of two old women sitting at a table opposite them. 'That's a shitty, fucking answer.' She stared at him through narrowed eyes. 'So you think it's a crap decision, I'm guessing? Well just come out and fucking say it! What have I told, you about not speaking your fucking mind.' Connie's opinion on whether or not she wanted the honest truth depended largely upon what she wanted to hear.

'Okay, okay, okay.' Ross motioned with his hands, trying to encourage her to keep the volume down, before mouthing a sorry in the direction of the two old women. 'You don't need to swear so much. No I don't think it's a bad idea per se, I'm just trying to get my head around it. It feels like your transfer situation has been on shifting sands all summer.' Ross was utterly exhausted trying to keep up with where she was headed next. One minute she was staying put, the next minute she was going to Nephara, then staying put again, then Schottia. She could go from lying in bed in the middle of the night crying because she felt held hostage, to sitting having breakfast telling him that moving to Polaris was the best thing that ever happened to her. Her agent, Mr Thomas, was no better, and the greedy backstabber just wanted his cut of another contract.

'I've been totally fu– totally clear.' She caught herself mid eruption, and lowered the tone of her voice. 'I needed a change, I needed a fresh start after - you know - my illness. Also, I wanted to be in the same...' Saying anything remotely kind or romantic always looked as if it was physically paining her. 'I wanted to move to the same region as - well - you...' Her voice trailed off, and she placed her head in her hands as she finished the sentence.

'Okay.' Ross said, striving for a sensitive tone. To say that she had been totally clear on this was a barefaced lie, but the idea made some sense. 'Well great, if you're happy then, you should look to agree terms.' He searched his pocket for change, wondering if this conversation was going to need another coffee to bring it to its full conclusion. There was an earthquake-sized headache setting in, and at the moment, coffee seemed like his only salvation. Standing at the end of the Harpooner Bar at two in the morning, drinking whisky with Dilon and Louis was always going to come back to haunt him. 'You know Chromatika and Turori aren't super close, right?'

'Yes, of course I do.' Connie was biting hard on the tips of her fingers, the way she always did when she got nervous. 'It's better than a long-haul flight though, no?' She watched for Ross' quick nod of agreement. He was looking over towards the counter, clearly thinking of ordering another drink, so Connie pushed her untouched cup towards him in invitation. 'Caffeine and I are a bad mix.'

'Yeah, no, I think I'm just surprised that there is that kind of money kicking around the Chromtik League.' Ross took a mouthful of the no-longer-hot, milky beverage. 'But the league is expending, and domestic football there is genuinely on the up. Positioning yourself somewhere like that is probably a good idea, I think as springboards go, you couldn't really find a better move.' Ross had talked to Jessie Lennox a fair bit - while the two of them were on the bench during the Independents Cup - a girl who had just won a move to the Nepharim Premiership off the back of her form in Chromatika. 'You know, "a rising tide lifts all boats" - pardon the pun.'

'Good.' Was Connie's curt, yet not unfriendly reply. She had clearly needed to hear some good things, and Ross had learned that massaging her ego had a great calming effect on her.

'Look, we can just put the camping off until next summer,' Ross said with a smile, confident that she would be quite happy about this suggestion. 'By the time you get back... Actually, if you're hell-bent on signing on the dotted line, you would be as well looking for a house. Just take your time over there.'

'Come.' Connie said, looking serious.

'Och...'

'Well what are you going to do, sit around here and get pissed all summer?' The idea of Connie criticising anyone's drinking was a bit rich. Her new found sobriety largely resulted from the fact that she was terrified to drink on her medication. 'They have bars in Tihon too.'

'I'm not going to sit around and get pissed.' Ross took umbrage to the assertion. 'Fine, fine, okay, I'll come along.' To be honest it wasn't much of a decision. The amount of time they got to spend together was short enough as it was. 'I'll go online and see if I can get a ticket.' He pulled his phone from his pocket. 'Do you have the fight number?'

'I already got you a ticket.' Connie said matter-of-factly. 'I'll message you the boarding-pass.'

"Future of Banijan Soccer" Gitonga Kahara set to make national team debut at the 42nd Di Bradini Cup

Image
Gitonga Kahara, the Banijan prodigy, at a practice with Project Olimpo

BUSUKUMA- Gitonga Kahara is a young Banijan soccer player, who many are calling "the future of Banijan soccer", playing at Project Olimpo Jutsii, the world-renowned youth development academy in Kita-Hinode. Kahara is from the slums of Herzeogovina City, growing up poor, playing football barefoot in the streets. He got a scholarship to attend a neighborhood Mormon school at age 11, and he has shot up ever since. While he was expected, as more 16 year olds in the region are, to play for the RBSA Moravica Regional Youth Development Academy, he ended up being discovered by scouts at the prestigious Project Olimpo, and not only did he show up there, but he starred in that league. He helped his squad win the All-Hinodejin Youth League, and with 17 goals across 38 games, he was able to win himself the golden boot. The spotlight on the young Banijan winger, of course, was on.

Kahara has a growing band of followers back home, following his successful debut season in the All-Hinodejin Youth League. He is a prolific goalscorer, of course, with his winning the Golden Boot, and he now has pressure on him, as many people are calling him "the future of Banijan soccer". The Herzegovina City man has risen far, and the U21 World Cup will be the first opportunity for many Banijans to see him play, with broadcasting advertisements in Banija specifically offering the opportunity to "watch Gitongo Kahara and the Vijana Kadongo Kamu take the field in Valanora." Randolf Cherry, the manager of the national team, even told reporters that he is 'excited' to see him practice and play up close for the first time. While Randolf Cherry will not be coaching the team, he helped lead the 10 days worth of team workouts in Busukuma, the national capitol, before the team flies out to Valanora. While Randolf Cherry is not coaching at the tournament, he is going to be watching and scouting his young players, especially Kahara, from the stands.

Now, of course, Kahara carries a big weight on his shoulders, and faces a lot of pressure. Being named "the future of Banijan soccer" at his age, when he hasn't played for a senior national side yet, seems to be a little carried away. He told us, however, that he was just focused on the tournament. "For the first time ever, I get to represent my country in a major international competition- the U21 World Cup. I think we have the talent here to give a solid foundation for the Kadongo Kamu for years to come. There is talent exuding everywhere on this roster- I am simply a piece. People can call me whatever they want, but I'm just focused on doing the best I can to show respect to those who have worn this shirt before me, and those who will wear this shirt after I am done." While all eyes will be on him, from BSL scouts to the scouts of foreign clubs, this is an opportunity not just for Kahara- this is an opportunity for the entire national team.

Let's look at the manager, Marcus Waters. Interviewed to become the National Team manager, he did not get the position and Randolf Cherry got it, but he was offered the position of Senior Assistant Manager, as well as manager of the Banijan national team youth sides, which he accepted. Marcus Waters will manage this team, getting a chance to showcase his own managerial talents and abilities on the international stage. But it goes beyond him as well. Two people who really get a chance to showcase their talents, who are already developing in the BSL, are Ephrem Selassiee & Okonkwo Okparro. Ephrem Selassiee started his first season at right back for Istria City FC, who ended up winning their first BSL league title, as well as went to their first RBSA Cup Final, which they eventually lost to Herzegovina City. But Ephrem Selassiee showed great potential over the course of the season. Rather than letting the pressure of a title race get to him, he was steady, continuing to close people down and not get inside his own head. While mistakes were made, as they always are by teenagers, the title challenge allowed him to mature beyond his years this past season. While he stayed put with Istria City FC this transfer window, expect the wingback to leave Banija at the next window. The current starting right back is only 23 years old, and playing abroad, and with their closeness in age, it is likely that Ephrem Selassiee will need to go abroad to try and pass Ephrem Selassiee in the pecking order.

Okonkwo Okparro, however, is a very different story. The 21 year old Right Midfielder is up & coming, and will be one of many who will take a crack at Kiggwe Mavuto's starting job after the World Cup 80 Cycle. With Mavuto's move to Dunnes, the 32 year old showed that he will be back for one more World Cup cycle, as Banija's all-time leading goalscorer will be, depending on scheduling, in the 34-36 range after the end of the World Cup 80 Finals. While the legend's starting spot is secure, many people are gunning for a spot when he retires. Okparro, at the start of the World Cup 81 cycle, will probably be in the 25-27 range, and in his prime. This is a great opportunity to show he can play the #10 spot, even though he plays out wide for his club. Okparro is known for his quickness and passing ability, but creating chances in the middle of the pitch, when he's more of a focal point than he is at Mynda SC, will be a different challenge entirely. Does performing at the Di Bradini Cup give him an inside track on that shirt in the future? Nobody really knows, but a good performance cannot hurt.

Those, of course, are the three prospects who are going to try and help their national team chances the most. The national team isn't getting any younger in central midfield, for example, though Mandela & Sanyang aren't seen as those with the potential to break through the ranks. But, the next opportunities we want to focus on are those who want to move up domestically- the Regional league players, or even BSL players who want to play for the Super 5 clubs, who are the biggest clubs from Banija's 5 biggest cities, or the Hoima Warriors, Istria City FC, Herzegovina City FC, Jinja City, and Busukuma AC. Jobateh, who will be wearing the #9 jersey, plays for the Hawabark Boulders, the champions of the Southern League. The young striker has showed his talent, scoring 22 goals across 44 league games last season, and wants to play in the top-flight. Only 19 years old, there are plenty of teams with older strikers in the BSL who could use a fresh face, and will be using this golden opportunity to evaluate him. The same is also true for center back Filije Kolley, out of Corizova United, and goalkeeper Jumu Sanneh, out of Capitol City FC. Both helped their teams qualify for the Serie B Champions Cup with excellent play in the back, and realize what an opportunity this is.

Now, here comes the question our more competitive fans are waiting for- can we win this thing? Well, the thing about the Di Bradini Cup, is that because players are so young, it's hard to scout, and therefore, hard to predict. Banija's first opponent is Northwest Kalactin, who we've played in a number of competitions. We open as slight favorites, due to the abundance of Banijan fans expected as the competition is in the Glorious Southwest, but you never know. Second, we play Schottia. The world champions, of course. While none of these Schottian players, have World Cup winners medals, the bar has officially been raised for the Schottians. We'd make them slight favorites in this game, but who knows how it'll play out? Last, but certainly not least, is Filindostan. Banija has a history with this nation in basketball, with Filindostan and Banija finishing 1-2 in the same group, though Filindostan won the group based on their group stage sweep of the Banijans. They'll open as slight favorites too, but who knows?

This is a tournament largely about player development and cohesiveness. An opportunity for young players to start playing together early, put on the shirt, and competing for their country, as they develop a chemistry with each other while developing their talents and growing into their own as players. We wish them all the best of luck, and the All-Banija Sports Magazine, as always, will have all the analysis as soon as the final whistle is blown.

Enigma: a person or thing that is mysterious, puzzling, or difficult to understand.
Part 1

Many people have wondered how a one-eyed man plays competitive football in the MPL, how a one-eyed man can be a Captain to the Under Twenty-One team of one of the hottest footballing nations of the multiverse at this time. First, and this goes unsaid - is the specimen of a person that Enigma Armageddon is. Standing at 6 feet, 2 inches, weighing a solid two hundred and thirty pounds, his hair sleeked back with the iconic eye-patch over one eye, his gaze seems to pierce into eternity and beyond. His torso-leg distribution is about half-half, which means he's not the best in the air, but not bad either; his gait is purposeful and measured, not wasting any energy.

There is something different about him, though - and not just the eye. He seems to flow through the game of football, always in continuous motion; if there is one defining word of his play, it would be fluidity. A sixth sense of anticipation and planning mixed into one helps him where the loss of vision has left a void; his maturity and wanting of purpose is evident in every action he does.

But what has caused this specimen to be formed? What kind of life did he live? Why is he the way he is?

Enigma Armageddon's story begins and ends with his name. An enigma is a person or thing that is mysterious, puzzling, or difficult to understand. What would cause a parent to name their child such a loaded name? Armageddon is the personification of the end, a battle fought to end all battles. An upside-down turning of the world that leaves nothing unscathed, and everything raw, ready to be re-formed. What end does he bring? What will be his endgame? Was Armageddon actually the family name that came from his father? If not, what was his name beforehand? What caused it to change?

Normally, we would go to those closest to him. However, he has no parents. He has no apparent close friends. He is a loner yet not - he is a force and a voice on the pitch. His teammates don't bother him in his solitude, as it is self-imposed and not deterring to his play. So how do we find out more about this character, then?

Well... We decided to simply ask.

"You're not the first to ask of me those things," he acquiesced, "And probably not the last. I recall that one Keira Andisori did a 'come out and tell us about yourself' interview once. I suppose I should, too."

Not quite the answer we were expecting, but then he added this:

"Only if it's Jordan Lawless asking, though."

So, Mr. Lawless, Chief Correspondent of the Rebel. Mind coming over to Valanora?

Men's Under-21 Soccer team to play in prestigious International Tournament
by Mindy Cartwright
National Soccer Writer

The Commonwealth Men's National Under-21 Soccer team are in Valanora preparing for their first match in the 42nd edition Di Bradini Cup, which is also the 63rd Under-21 World Cup tournament, the first time a national age-group side have participated in a major tournament final since 1982.

The team are drawn into Group H, which appears to be one of the stronger groups in the tournament; the Commonwealth's first opponent, The Free People of Dainer, are a previous champion in this competition, having won the 36th edition. The second match against The Republic of Ceni also sees the Black & Gold against a former winner from DBC 38; they have also been runners-up on 3 occasions, including 2 of the last 3 times this event was held. The final group match against Cassadaigua will be a showdown versus a two-time winner of the World Cup itself.

The 23 man squad arrived here 2 days ago and have gained confidence as training has progressed over the last few weeks. An experienced back line will be the strength of the squad, with a total of 55 U21 caps between the 5 main defenders. The fast, aggressive passing game that is the trademark of Baker Park teams seems to be coming into form at the right time. The squad have no significant injury concerns and have the luxury of the players being in top mid season condition.

The Match will be broadcast live on CS2 from 06:30 ST (12:30 in Valanora).

FAC sends up trial balloon at DBC
by Darrell Anderson, Soccer Editor
The Shirley Exponent

The FAC has put itself in a position to shine on the world stage at the forthcoming World Cup, but will test the waters first with an Under 21 team at the Di Bradini Cup, the 63rd playing of U21 World Cup tournament.

It is an opportunity for the Association to study the logistical problems involved with a major competition with a short turnaround between matches and travel to various locations with a full delegation of players and officials.

But it is also a chance to see how the nation's soccer infrastructure stands up to other participants. Liam Sullivan, who will take charge of the squad here, will be able to make a judgement on how the FAC Development Program is preparing players at the youth team club level and the FAC training center.

There are 10 players who have 4 or fewer U21 caps, and Sullivan is expecting to give all of them a look in one of the group matches. It will also be interesting to see how many of the players for whom this will probably be their last U21 experience are prepared to step into the senior national set-up. The duo of JC Bartok & Lorenzo Taborn of Westwood Sprites and captain Terrence Stephens from North Royalton Town have shown they have the ability to make a seamless transition, and depending upon their showing here may be added to the senior team as soon as the upcoming pre-WC tournament, the BoF.

While the FAC has sent an all-male team to this Cup, it will almost certainly face squads that are coed and/or co-species. This may be an avenue that the FAC might need to go down sooner rather than later, as there are several outstanding women playing at clubs who could certainly hold their own with the men.

Sullivan and the FAC probably do not think that success in this tournament will be measured in wins and losses. If it can gain a draw or a win in the group phase and not be outclassed, I think they will be satisfied with the trip. But if there is a formidable gap between the team and its opponents, there may be some large changes coming at the FAC headquarters.

Ázëwyn Fëanáro, Starblaydia's
Manager at both Under-21
and senior level

Staff
AF. Ázëwyn Fëanáro*, Manager, 4,046
270 Caps, 71 Goals (Uncapped at Under-21 level)
Fëanáro scored the winner in the 47th Final against Valanora, denying them a title on their own turf and lifting Starblaydia to the mantle of all-time greatest team. Known for her excellent attacking play, range of passing and great eye for goal that lifts her to second in the all-time goalscorers list too, by virtue of a nearly 1-in-4 ratio, Ázëwyn Fëanáro is a symbol of grace, power and beauty from Starblaydia's golden age, some hundred and twenty-five years ago when the Cup was in its 40s. It is these qualities that the SFA managed to recapture with Fëanáro at the helm, bringing her trademark poise and piercing yell to the touchlines after more than a decade of national failures. She took her team to an ultimately dismal World Cup 78 Finals performance, but the crucial point was they were at the World Cup after so long without it.

JM. Jerzy Makuszewski, Assistant Manager, 56
83 Caps, 0 Goals (6 Caps, 0 Goals at Under-21 level)
Known as "Chef" by those who can pronounce his surname correctly, Makuszewski took up the mantle of "Best in the World" Lucas Cable to become Starblaydia's unassailable number one between the posts and wear the captain's armband. Always a fiery character, he can shift from jovial to furious in moments, and is Fëanáro's 'enforcer', barking out orders and remonstrating with players and officials with equal fervour.

Goalkeepers
1. Martin Bennett, GK, 22 - Paricone Athletic FC
1 Cap, 0 Goals (1 Cap, 0 Goals at Under-21 level)
Bennett is a big fellow, a very big fellow indeed. An excellent distributor and calm under crosses, he's surprisingly agile for a man with a frame his size.

Defenders
2. Garret Allen, R/LB, 21 - Paricone Athletic FC

"Miriam, congratulations on the win and on advancing to the round of 16," the reporter said. "Once again, the team had to battle back from being a goal down, and once again it was an own goal that you conceded. What did you say to the girls to get them over the line and win the game?"

Miriam Whitaker nodded her head sagely. "Thank you for that wonderful question," she replied. "I mean, let's get down to basics. A win's a win no matter how you get it, whether you get it after a 7-0 drubbing or a 2-1 comeback. I told the girls that this game is the one where everything is on the line. This game was where our fate will be decided, and it was. Yes, the own goal was bad, and we have to work on stopping ourselves from leaking these needless own goals, but the fight that the girls showed to come back from 1-0 down to win 2-1 is something that they all deserve credit for."

"Miriam, Abanhfleft has been drawn against the Alpine Union for the round of 16 of the Independents Cup. Any comments on the draw?"

"All I can say is that it's sure to be a very tough fight, and I can also say that the Alpines have definitely improved in the last few years," Miriam replied. "I remember when there were days that Abanhfleft had dominated the matchups against the Alpine Union, but I have to give credit to the Alpines for improving themselves. They gave the men's team the game of their lives in that World Cup qualifier where the Alpines won 5-4. Of course, there's no way of saying if the same result will happen this time around, but we'll definitely do our best to win. And they'll do their best to win. That's football."

"How about a comment on the Alpines' comments on the draw?"

"Everyone's entitled to their own opinion. I'm entitled to mine, you're entitled to yours. Although I have to admit that I don't really get that part about us regretting winning the coin toss. It must be an Alpine expression that doesn't translate well."

As Miriam had said, Abanhfleft trained and trained and studied game film of the Alpine Union, both in the current Independents Cup and that World Cup qualifier against the Fleftic men's team which the Alpine Union edged out 5-4. The team studied the film and worked on the best ways to nullify the Alpine offense and get through the Alpine defense until finally, the day of destiny came.

The match between Abanhfleft and the Alpine Union was at Gauld Park in South Berwick on Schottia's New Island. 7,000 of the stadium's current occupants were from the Democratic Republic, and they were here to cheer on their country's women's national team against the Alpine Union which was slowly but surely starting to become a bit of a rival of their country in the sports scene. Buoyed by this kind of vociferous support, Abanhfleft were soon two goals to the good. Kelly McGinnis scored on a header that looped up and over the Alpine goalkeeper, a shot that she very probably could have and should have saved 99 times out of 100 but not this time. Sohaila Magomedova then thundered home into the far post after Zofia Kwietniewska had had to save another McGinnis shot on goal, and it looked as if Abanhfleft were cruising to an easy victory over the Alpines this time.

But not one Fleftic supporter in Gauld Park could have seen what was about to come. Or maybe they could see it but they had chosen not to acknowledge it in the hopes that by not recognizing the twist that was to come, it wouldn't come at all. But no, that's not how plot twists work. But give the plot twist fair warning; it did telegraph its intents to arrive quite loudly, and quite early too. The warning signs were there for the Fleftic faithful to see starting in the 35th minute, when the impetus to score a goal had shifted to the Alpines. It would never go back to Abanhfleft for the rest of the match. Zbigniew Zajaczkowski headed home Sascha Wellzmüller's free kick to give the Alpines their first goal just two minutes from the end of the half, and from then on to the end of the game, all the impetus, possession, creativity, and everything else that wins football games was with the Alpine Union.

Abanhfleft dodged a bullet when Amelia Zalwowska was brought down inside the box by Claudia Roos, which earned the Fleftic defender a yellow card and the Alpine Union a penalty. Zbiegniew Zajaczkowski tried to slot the penalty into the bottom right corner but Ursula Qatintiki went that way as well and she clasped the ball to her chest for as long as she could before she could get carded for timewasting. That was to be the last piece of good fortune to come Abanhfleft's way. Zalwowska was put through on goal once again by a through-ball from Sarah Schroffenegger that immediately took out the Fleftic defense, leaving only Qatintiki to stop Zalwowska from getting a goal. And Zalwowska got the goal anyway after Qatintiki went to ground a little bit too early and afforded Zalwowska the opportunity to equalize the game, which she took.

Now this is usually the point in the story where the favorites regain their composure and put pressure on their plucky underdog opponents and make it harder for the underdogs to get that game-winning goal. But it appears as if nobody had read that particular script as it was the underdogs (the Alpine Union in this instance) that piled the pressure on the favorites (in this case Abanhfleft) and tried to force that third goal. Abanhfleft were fighting for their lives, and any clearance that they made could only give both the fans and the players a quick breather before the Alpines were on their necks once again.

And then, as the seconds ticked away towards ninety, Miriam Whitaker suddenly had a moment of clarity in which she felt like she could see into the future, but it was actually just her realization that Abanhfleft was never meant to win this game in the first place. Abigail Papadiamantopoulos, the six-foot-eight naturalized Anglatian Greek central midfielder from All-Inclusive Haranguer, had just gone in for a sliding tackle on Sarah Schroffenegger, which naturally resulted in a free kick for the Alpine Union because of course they would get a free kick in a very good position. Schroffenegger took it herself as she apparently handled all direct free kick duties, kind of like what Bella Maynard does for Ludogorets Markovsky Ladies and Abanhfleft. And as soon as Schroffenegger stood over the bell in preparation for the free kick, Miriam Whitaker knew exactly what was going to happen. But of course she still couldn't accept it until after it had happened.

"Oh, no, no no no no no no no, this can't be happening," Miriam said to herself. She watched as Schroffenegger sized up the ball before swinging it towards goal, and even as Miriam closed her eyes, her ears were still very much wide open, and they gave her the complete picture of the result of Schroffenegger's free kick. When Miriam did dare to open her eyes once again, she saw the Alpine players bunched up near the corner flag celebrating their winning goal while some of Abanhfleft's players were lethargically walking back to their places for the kickoff and others were sitting or standing around just staring off into space. "Goddamn it," Miriam muttered under her breath. "God-fucking-damn it."

It was just one more disappointment in a long line of disappointments brought forth by Abanhfleft's sports teams. Miriam didn't even have the stomach or the patience to face the press after that game, instead passing over the duties to Heinrich Wurzmann, technically her assistant manager for the Independents Cup. And immediately afterwards, Miriam Whitaker fired off a resignation letter to the Samahang Futbol ng Abanhfleft. It's hard to be a national team manager, Miriam thought before she locked the door to her Schottian hotel room for her flight back to Abanhfleft. This was certainly one memory she wouldn't want to bring back from this country.

OOC: Followed through with Fleft's WC79 RP for the scorers and stuff.

Filindostan National Stadium
San Marco, Filindostan

SETTING: FFL XI vs SWC XI - Friendly match post SWC4

Ina has been a trailblazer for her collegiate team in the UCAAF. Scoring two thirds of the goals Universiti Tanjung Pagi - Jakulta had during their championship-winning campaign, she bagged the golden boot of that season, leading to her call-up to the U18 team to be sent to the SWC4, which was being hosted by Filindostan. There, she scored half of the group stage goals the team scored, as well as one of the goals they scored against the eventual champions, Mercedini.

She was actually selected for the SWC XI team that will play a selection of Filindostan Football League players. She was very excited to realize that she's playing against the nation's best young players plying their trade in the FFL. The only problem? She was not listed as a starter, but was listed as a substitute. She was down for a while until the final whistle of the match ended with Mordecai and Shai scoring for the select XI, and Kelly McGinnis, the Fleftic forward, scoring for the SWC XI. She still showed sportsmanship, shaking hands with the Filindostani players and also her SWC XI teammates, and posing with them on a photograph.

Upon returning to the bench, the assistant coach approached her.

"Ina, sorry, we did not field you to that showmatch. Well, as you can see, some scouts are looking after you."

"For what? I know some clubs are interested for my signature, but I could have played, for five minutes at least. I could have helped equalize the scoreline!"

"Really sorry for that. I think it's for the better. You keep your talents hidden. You don't play much? You don't expose too much to them that they can find your weaknesses easily."

"Did you really think I can buy that idea? Well, yeah, you may be right."

Ina thought that Tanjung Pagi SC was interested for her services, as to keep their all-Indos playing roster intact. Little did she know that they filled their roster with three foreign players, one of them a striker. This put off Ina and decided to keep her scholarship contract at Jakulta City Academy. "Maybe Jakulta City, they'll sign me up."

And they would. With Wayudi Timisela not performing up to standards at the newly-renamed Perokojak, they needed a striker to replace him and complement their own goalscoring machine, Bienvenido Arespacochaga. They turned to Ina to fill the void and make a potent and youthful scoring duo for years to come. And the club reaped the rewards - pretty quickly.

Ina became part of the national pool for the World Cup qualifying squad, and usually, she was given time to play on the pitch, during matches against lower-ranked teams, and sometimes scoring goals for them. For Perokojak though, it impacted their season in a good way. She became part of a three-headed dragon along with Bienvenido and Juven forward Oriol Vives, scoring eighty percent of the Pink Lions' goals, and more importantly, the 'insurance' goal that gave their team their first ever league title, and the break to the Fortunas-Venividicci duopoly that has plagued the Filindostan Football Festival for years and counting.

---

Today, she was appointed vice-captain of the U21 team that will be sent to Valanora along with most of the FFL XI players that played in that showmatch. They will be reinforced by players already having DBC experience such as Edna and PO3 Raffy, and her former U18 teammates, Cahya, and Chanchan. Their first test? A very tough one, as they face the U21 squad of the recently crowned World Cup Champions, Schottia.
