Season 1998 Preview
Lineups are listed left to right where applicable
Avidë
Nicknames: Rangers, Royals
Location: Torgos | Stadium: Royality Park (19,000) | Manager: Joso Kolar (62)
Kits: Home & Away
The second smallest club in the capital, it has been a very long and difficult climb up to the top tier for the Rangers to finally be at the highest reaches of the domestic game. Having long been anchored to the bottom tier of the pyramid, it has only been in the last decade that the team started to ascend up the footballing league, thanks in large part from an anonymous donation that allowed them to upgrade their facilities. It's believed the donation came from the royal family with the family having been seen at games of the club throughout it's short history but it has never been proven, what has been proven is the club's ability to turn that investment into long term success and they now stand at the top of the pyramid. Staying there will be the last test of Kolar, who has done well to develop a solid group of young players into a real competent team, though the manager is nearing retirement.
Starting XI: Ormos Császár (30); Tara Blackmore (25), Renáta Szepesy (30), Erin Nowicki (27), Kemenes Harsányi (24); Rez Seres (27), Daz Manning (32), Bendegúz Saári (27), Markus Dobos (30); Alex Forgács (29), Szescx Sághy (25)
Key Reserves: Ema Erdei (LB, 25), Bod Gölöncsér (CB, 25), Nusa Kálmán (CB, 21), Gyala Szép (RW, 22), Liliána Sinka (LW, 23), Ladomér Orbán (MC, 24), Mike Frueh (ST, 31)
Baskita FC
Nickname: Eagles
Location: Torgos | Stadium: Taltron Park (66,000) | Manager: Mario Ventura (58)
Kits: Home & Away
Ventura has to be very disappointed with the board right now, as they continue to underfund him and not allow him to pursue the types of players that will get Baskita back into IFCF contention, all while his best players continue to get older or retire. With a squad that has far too many starters over their thirties and in the twilight of their career, Ventura will be lucky to keep them in a top ten position for the entire year. There are some promising products coming through the academy again, but most are at least two seasons away from being ready for the first team. That might be time too long for Venture to stay at the job or for Baskita to stay afloat in an ever more difficult SuperLiga.
Starting XI: Ozsvát Sárközi (30); Erik Klein (21), Renata Novaković (31), Jake Newton (33), Kinga Kállai (30); Becse Sultés (30), Bod Joó (30), Evangeline Aschenbach (33), Ádám Berecz (32); Damaris Nebojsic (29), Sebastián Ferreira (26)
Key Reserves: Zsombor Szôlôsi (GK, 27), Tejano Debar (CB, 23), Nusa Soós (CB, 27), Bars Keresztes (CB, 27), Mara Máthé (MC, 27), Hajna Ujváry (MC, 26), Péter Csorba (ST, 21), Ktisztina Seres (ST, 26)
Club Stein-los
Nickname: The Old Club, The Dressers
Location: Stein-los | Stadium: Stein-los Stadium (59,000) | Manager: Markus Anderton (49)
Kits: Home & Away
Despite the pressure of a possible sack at the end of the season, Anderton was able to navigate last season well enough, finishing sixth and managing to win the Copa, which gave the Old Club a spot in the Challengers' and Anderton able to retain his position for another year. However the loss of Mora in the midfield during the summer and a lack of replacement means that the squad is severely weaker than it was last year. With the added pressure of two ICC competitions, it may prove to be a step to far for Anderton to handle and the Dressers might be in a similar situation to Baskita come the end of the season, and in need of a new manager as well.
Starting XI: Edina Szél (30); Ibolya Takách (28), Alvisio Pisani (31), Jakob Silas (31), Suzie Knight (25); Zizi Lendvai (30), Daniel Lachlant (27), Frici Czakó (21), Mario Schweitzer (30); Leticia Palmer (27), Éva Mezei (28)
Key Reserves: Gyala Sáry (GK, 26), Ompoly Erôss (CB, 23), Barbara Nagy (RB, 24), Ramóna Berta (MC, 30), Yadira Ziegler (RW, 23), Sabina Grubišić (LW, 21)
CA Paulinthal
Nickname: The Hurricane, CAP
Location: Paulinthal | Stadium: San Daros (64,000) | Manager: Andrea Betancourt (57)
Kits: Home, Away, & Third
After being denied any silverware last season, Betancourt has decided to get younger and brought in a handful of talented young Pasargans to replace what had been an aging squad. The keys to the Hurricanes' success will continue to be those two talented strikers at the tip of the spear, but last season proved that they could not win the title alone and needed more help than they got. With a wealth of under twenty-one national team talent now on the roster, Betancourt seems to be banking on the youthful legs being able to turn a few of those draws into wins and losses into draws, edging the gap and reestablishing CAP as the premier side in the dual islands.
Starting XI: Borka Szekeres (29); Rudy Yáñez (22), Fruzsina Budai (27), Judit Kádár (30), Viktor Szôcs (21); Vojmil Topić (23), Milan Grubišić (31), Lovre Popović (21), Erik Földessy (30); Stanimir Ilev (30), Arista Tzorvas (30)
Key Reserves: Ozsvát Orosz (GK, 27), Markus Vida (CB, 21), Gillen Madrigal López (A/ML, 21), Ors Rátz (A/MC, 32), Ilona Kárpáty (AMC, 20), Evangelino Pulido Castaneda (ST, 21), Eustacio Corral Magana (ST, 21)
Duke of the North
Nickname: The Dukes
Location: Isnat'pa | Stadium: Citadel Stadium (25,000) | Manager: Duci Urbán (49)
Kits: Home & Away
The Dukes continue to move along and do what they do, continue to be an enigma among Pasargan football with their insistence to sticking to a very defensive form of the game. The results are there for the club to show that their way of playing the game is just as good as any other, with a pair of finishes at seventh in the last two years and one of the usual placements for the Isnat'pa side, but it is not winning them any fans or attracting difference making talent to the club. Maybe they do not need it, maybe they are content in being who they are, but most sportspeople look to achieve greater and for the moment, this club seems too comfortable in just doing enough.
Starting XI: Leonidas Barrett (32); Rozalia Sebeôk (30), Nadine Fenstermacher (32), Darda Szalai (28), Chorus Wilhelm (27); Zsa-zsa Kuncz (26), Vitéz Takácz (26), Keziah Locke (31), Raimund Noffke (32); Erik Klug (32), Greyson Coulthirst (33)
Key Reserves: Lukáš Hanzelka (GK, 18), Evacska Horvát (LB, 21), René Petrie (CB, 22), Vidor Kovách (CB, 21), Mátyás Vigh (RW, 21), Deco Kocsis (ST, 21), Ákos Pálinkás (ST, 30)
Evenfar FC
Nickname: The Pegasii, The Greens
Location: Evenfar | Stadium: Woodland Park (22,000) | Manager: Kelemen Demeter (56)
Kits: Home & Away
Long ago are the days when the Greens were the champions of Evenfar and the rulers of the city, with Hellinic Rouge being the small fry. Not only have they had to suffer the indignity of seeing their crosstown rivals become the bigger club and win a pair of SuperLiga titles, but they had to do so from the second tier as they have indeed fallen on some hard times. Despite a dominant showing in the SuperLiga 2, the Greens have not found success in the top flight in recent trips back there and are odds on favorites to be relegated after not being able to pick up any notable transfers in the summer, unlike their fellow promoted side of Avidë.
Starting XI: Kornél Virág (30); Zdeňka Ramešová (24), Miklós Kállay (30), Stefan Polášek (28), Martin Dusík (23); Helena Píchová (30), Ines Frankfurter (31), Erzebet Márton (29), Milada Slezáková (20); Márió Schulteisz (32), Lucia Kocábová (30)
Key Reserves: Phillipp Saenger (LB, 33), Kateřina Stašová (CB, 23), Josef Koníček (CB, 22), Farah Epskamp (RW, 32), Marie Procházková (LW, 21), Irena Šebestová (MC, 23), Kristýna Riedlová (ST, 24)
Fetherdron United
Nickname: The Eagles
Location: Torgos | Stadium: Silverthal (60,000) | Manager: Marko Gerste (45)
Kits: Home & Away
For a second straight season Fetherdron was only a single spot above the relegation zone but were always safe pointswise from making the drop into the second tier. It is a dangerous life that the club is living, especially as they continue to fail to produce any signings from the transfer window. It is one thing to miss out on high profile players, it's another to not even get a free agent for two straight seasons. While this means that the academy products have a better chance at making the first team, it does leave the continued survival for the capital's third largest club highly up in the air, especially with a new capital club up in the top tier to contend with.
Starting XI: Leon Poljak (31); Erika Csontos (23), Júlia Kocsis (32), Erik Kortig (26), Anne-Roos van Weert (32); Višeslav Stojanović (31), Shanna Oakstone (29), Faizan Yakam (29), Đurđa Mihaljević (32); Jana Walter (32), Zoárd Novák (30)
Key Reserves: Krisztina Gelencsér (GK, 26), Gabriele Wulf (CB, 26), Vincze Sánta (RB, 23), Zizi Danko (RW, 23), Christina Durr (LW, 21), Florka Müllner (ST, 26), Angyalka Havasy (ST, 26)
Galatica
Nickname: The Galacticos
Location: Torgos | Stadium: Stade de Torgos (90,000) | Manager: Michael Mueller (53)
Kits: Home & Away
A smaller league definitely seemed to hurt Galatica, going from an IFCF challenging club to one that was in the midtable, as they had fewer of the weaker teams to collect points off of. With the new style of the league, Mueller might have finally reached the heights of where he can take the squad and it might be time for both club and the manager to move on to new challenges. However two new wingers have come in during the transfer window to reinforce the side and give it a bit of a boost to try and get back into the IFCF. A top six finish is ultimately the goal and anything that comes short of that, it will be difficult to see Mueller staying on another year in this project.
Starting XI: Liliána Végh (31); Carlo Iadanza (31), Blanka Gáspár (28), Lowen Rosenthal (32), Jirar Malgos (25); Ernesztina Szölôsi (26), Riona Parker (30), Lovisa Tedenby (23), Marvin Peiper (21); Zheng Yuanjun (22), Cristian Bogarín (28)
Key Reserves: Dominik Fenyves (GK, 22), Mihaela Pavlović (RB, 31), Anasztaizia Orsós (LB, 27), Zajzon Kádár (CB, 26), Dávid Berec (RW, 27), Daniek Huijberts (MC, 31), Naseem Cross (ST, 32)
Hellinic Rouge
Nickname: The Spartans
Location: Evenfar | Stadium: Spartan Stadium (30,000) | Manager: Chris Granger (45)
Kits: Home & Away
It was a bit of a let down in Granger's third season, though finishing third and only two points out of a Champions' League is nothing to sneeze at, by all means it was still a fairly successful season considering all the turnover in the squad during last season. This looks to be a troubling season for Granger though, with an entirely new attack and the defense looking a bit misshapen as well. There is plenty of talent up and down the roster but the new players, especially the new attacking partnership, is going to have to have some time to bed in and get used to play with each other. Objectively a top half finish would be good, though the Spartans are likely going to be aiming higher with their recent successes.
Starting XI: Szescõ Mezei (GK, 27); Lõrinc Vass (27), Tom Wellington (25), Borsala Máté (31), Paö (23); Ferike Szôllôssi (29), Domokos Biró (26), Exene Fletcher (24), Freddie Wright (31); Aldo Gonckalev (29), Tommy Sutton (27)
Key Reserves: Ábel Virág (GK, 24), Arnþrúður Kristjánsdóttir (RB, 31), Yunus Abdul-Wahhab Shamoun (LRCB, 22), Michel Sarrazin (CB, 23), Erzebet Lörinc (RW, 25), Csongor Sebeôk (D/MC, 21), Magdalena Debeljak (LW, 32), Joska Sághy (ST, 22)
Lunas FC
Nickname: The Moon Warriors
Location: Lunas | Stadium: Stadium of the Moon (84,000) | Manager: Alex Saári (54)
Kits: Home & Away
For the Moon Warriors, it feels like it is the same old story every year, they are a difficult to beat side, especially when playing at home, but they are never quite good enough to be challenging for the IFCF. It is not even about making the Challengers' Cup at this point for the beleagured fans of the city, who continue to wonder why their alluring city, magnificent stadium, and decent history fails routinely to bring good players in. It is about being in the conversation and not just stuck in neutral, neither going up nor down, for at least if they were regressing they could find a way to shake things up. As it is, not much has changed besides a few youth and reserve team players and youngsters abroad coming back to the dual islands. Maybe some fresh faces will change the fortunes, but it seems unlikely without a truly recognizable star in the side.
Starting XI: Rosalind Buchanan (34); Mozes Szôts (30), Henri Rocheleau (27), Grégoire Grimard (27), Boban Groenink (32); Jakub Malý (26), Arnold Jósa (28), David Schweizer (31), Lorant Kontz (30); Gergo Sáry (28), Zvonimir Čerkez (31)
Key Reserves: Eliot LaGrande (GK, 27), Rozalia Zsinka (RW, 20), Ásmundur Jónatansson (MC, 21), Sophie Nagel (MC, 33), Vésteinn Kristófersson (ST, 18)
Paulinthal FC
Nickname: The Reds
Location: Paulinthal | Stadium: Seaside Park (27,000) | Manager: Catheline Harper (59)
Kits: Home & Away
When the other two top flight teams in your city are the oldest and most decorated club in the nation and one of the more infamous ones, it's easy to forget that Paulinthal FC exists and has a top flight title to their name as well. While they were relatively safe from the drop, the side was completely gutted during the offseason and rebuilt from the ground up. On paper this squad is significantly stronger than the side that finished thirteenth last but there is an air of uncertainty around the team that they have not properly had enough time to gel together during the preseason with all the movements made. With the SuperLiga so competitive, it would not be a terrible shock if they end up in a relegation battle.
Starting XI: Kamilla Vig (28); Sandor Kuntz (28), Karole Szôllösi (31), Kartal Gál (28), Irenke Maier (31); Alysia Moyer (26), Istvan Szücs (28), Lenci Szathmáry (28), Reynardo Jalali (23); Stephan Maier (29), Melinda Fazekas (28)
Key Reserves: Radek Šťastný (GK, 21), Szescõ Erôss (CB, 21), Renátó Boros (CB, 20), Vjekoslava Jovanović (RW, 27), Monica Quarten (MC, 34), Nóra Antal (A/MC, 31), Tomica Galić (ST, 20)
Peynol-Lunas
Location: Lunas | Stadium: Crescent Park (50,000) | Manager: Gobind Srygler (66)
Kits: Home, Away, & Third
Peynol enters into the season having had a safe but underwhelming season last go around, but did achieve the initial goal of merely staying a SuperLiga side at the end of the season. Syrgel is looking to be more ambitious this season, despite not getting any reinforcements during the summer window and is setting a minimum points goal of thirty, as that will mean that Peynol will have survived another season in the top tier if history is any indicator. However like many of the lower half of the league, Peynol has the capability to be both a contender for the IFCF spots or could find themselves in a relegation battle, it is such a knife's edge with the league. There is enough quality however that getting to that thirty point target and safety should be within reach without too much fuss.
Starting XI: Olivér Gyarmaty (28); Katinka Szöllôsy (30), Buga Radić (31), Thibaut Peñarito (26), Joëlle Levering (27); Fabio Bozzo (27), Ruth Mulberry (34), Ceylan Versteege (31), Birthe Rinkel (27); Zajzon Erdôs (30), Terrance Lymaria (26)
Key Reserves: Vilbergur Héðinsson (GK, 23), Mattías Víglundsson (RB, 21), Michiel Dijkhuis (CB, 31), Eusebio Warburton (RW, 23), Mónika Csordás (LW, 28), Szabina Pálffi (MC, 22), Samson Greanaia (ST, 23)
Santos Luega
Nickname: The Tecos
Location: Paulinthal | Stadium: Tecos Stadium (47,000) | Manager: Takara Lemus Escobar (47)
Kits: Home & Away
Santos Luega, perhaps the most infamous club in all of Pasarga, with their strict stance of only allowing players of hispanic heritage into the club, though they have been a bit more open the last few years allowing players under the age of 18 to be allowed into the club if born in Paulinthal. Despite the rather small player pool to choose from, the Tecos have never been relegated outside of the top flight of Pasargan football and are something of cult heroes to small portions of the Paulinthal population. Escobar has lifted the Tecos from the lower end of the midtable and seems to be having the team performing quite well, only just missing out on a Challengers' Cup spot due to the Copa results. There's nothing to suggest that Escobar or the Tecos are going to be fading back into obscurity any time soon and they might just challenge for the Champions' League spots if their youth prospects continue to prosper.
Starting XI: Gillen Cortés Marín (33); Elisandro Franco Alonzo (31), Rocco Rael Aranda (26), Anelisa Armijo Díaz (32), Raynaldo Puga Burgos (30); Juanma Urías Zarate (28), Giulianna Cuellar Montalvo (28), Georges Cervántez Guardado (31), Fortuna Alemán Alaniz (27); Yoko Corrales Noriega (32), Oriel Villagómez Acuna (30)
Key Reserves: Illed Chávez Sedillo (GK, 22), Gabrielle Ayala Camacho (LB, 21), Erauso Iburrusteta (33), Atala Rascón Magana (RW, 32), Lavinia Batista Aranda (MC, 32), Olivia Garza Rosales (ST, 24), Anacleto Paz Briseño (ST, 32)
Sardin United
Nickname: Riversiders, Gold-Blues
Location: Sardin | Stadium: East River Stadium (27,000) | Manager: Lara Winter (50)
Kits: Home & Away
Despite a bit of a small stature, Sardin United seems to becoming a mainstay in the top flight, and playing some very solid football in the process. Being the club that produced Juhana Jäntti, there is obviously some potential in the academy and the greater Sardin area, proven by the fact that the cities' three biggest clubs have all been in the topflight in the last decade. However the Riversiders have been the side to emerge as the side with the most steel in the gut to withstand the tenacity of the league, having a solid defensive line that keeps the side in most matches. However in all their years in the SuperLiga, it has been finding a striker with consistent form that has kept them from pushing into consistent top half finishers. Their defensive prowess should be enough to keep them up but until good attacking options make themselves known, it is unlikely they will achieve more than just being a really hard match in the SuperLiga.
Starting XI: András Gerô (28); Kristof Lakatos (30), Alvisio Mancini (31), Dimitri Skondreas (29), Anita Szarka (28); Dániel Bencsik (28), Egyed Váradi (30), Vanessza Harsányi (28), Ivett Sörös (28); Aranka Szigethy (28), Eszter Bakos (27)
Key Reserves:Kinga Zsinkó (LB, 28), Vince Meyer (CB, 27), Jenci Pollák (CB, 24), Orzsebet Sághi (RB, 25), Kemenes Dobos (MC, 30), Nyék Illyés (A/MC, 22), Barbara Kántor (ST, 30)
Stein-los Turkish
Nickname: Turkish, Eagles
Location: Stein-los | Stadium: Albrecht Road (57,000) | Manager: Genova Conrad (61)
Kits: Home & Away
Turkish, the sister team to Albrecht Turkish of renown, and one of the founding members of Pasargan club football. Despite arguably being the most popular of the three major clubs in Stein-los, Turkish are somehow the least successful of them all, even though recent Copa victories have bolstered their trophy cabinet to quite a respectable size for those outside of Tani and CAP. Conrad turned the side into a consistently qualifying ICC club and then began the ascent towards being a major title contender, before finally pulling off the feat last season in a season of wonder for Turkish. Success begets success and Conrad was able to bring in a Nepharim national team winger as well as a former U21 Pasargan leftback to keep the club in amongst the contenders. Busy on multiple fronts this season, Turkish will have a lot to prove they were not just a one season wonder and can continually vie with the other major clubs for trophies.
Starting XI: Ambrus Galambos (35); Asztrik Puskás (26) , Torsten Mueller (32), Benci Szôllôs (31), Pristina Soeringer (24); Chantal Kalevi (25), Muhib Bandar Ba (21), Koloman Reaves (32), Atalanta Skapetis (33); Najiyah Lubanah Mifsud (26), Réka Szôllôssi (31)
Key Reserves: Rashida Adeela Almasi (GK, 26), Oszkar Berec (CB, 30), Anisah Sfiyah Said (CB, 22), Qubilah Tuba Guirguis (RB, 27), Erzebet Révész (LW, 22), Juliska Müller (RW, 28), Gordan Jurić (ST, 23)
Tanrısal
Nickname: Tani
Location: Stein-los | Stadium: Kilmonarch (72,000) | Manager: Srđan Jakšić (53)
Kits: Home & Away
Tani is the club that has stood the test of time in Stein-los, having won the second ever top division, and yet still remains a force in the game even now. Tani is a club that has always had money, despite it being the "second club" of Stein-los, and was able to attract quality players from the start. Unlike other teams that prefer to build from within, Tani much prefers to buy already developed players, though their youth academy has had a few stand outs over time. A successful season that saw Tani climb back into the IFCF means that Srđan Jakšić was about to keep his job, but there is still some disgruntlment in being eleven points off the pace of the league winners in Turkish and failing to bring home the Copa. Tani tried to go after several players to better their chances in the market, but each and every bid fell through for the side and they will have to make due with what they have, to get more from players already giving it their all. Not an enviable task but one that need be done to satisfy the fans.
Starting XI: Dalma Kollár (21); Matts Pedersen (28), Laurent Chandonnet (32), Borbála Szôcs (27), Mojmira Jović (28); Kolbeinn Ingvarsson (25), Christian O'Brien (29), Irena Đurić (32); Adrien Trolli (23); Keller Marsden (33), Gabriel Petrasso (27)
Key Reserves: Andrija Hrvatin (RB, 23), Mozes Szölôsi (CB, 21), Nidal Thamer (CB/DMC 22), Poldi Szigety (MC, 30), Katinka Pálffy (RW, 21), Benci Gölöncsér (AMC, 30), Bratislav Rukavina (ST, 28)
