Hockey Kebec of the Nordic Republic of Kebec is proud to invite your nation to the second-annual spontaneous occurrence of the Odin Cup Invitational, held quad-yearly on conjunction with preparation for the World Cup of Hockey, we're here for the second journey of hockey-ing souls, seeing experiments and a slue of other changes prepared by national coaches to test formulas for the upcoming games. Last time around, we saw Cosneolta lift the trophy over Kebec in a 4-1 thriller, now, as the time rolls around, we hope to see eight teams participate for the prize, a lump-sum of cash and surely a good testing-ground for players and fans alike. It really is a thing of simplicity - two groups of four teams each, battling it out till it dwindles down to a mighty two foes, and then, second champion is crowned. Now gathered in Calix City, perhaps the most-famous city in all of Kebec, known throughout the multiverse for its footballing team, the collegiate-level CCIA, Calix City boats a wonderful hockey culture, home of the CCIA Kings hockey team, an NSYCH participant and a four-time LCH winner in domestic collegiate hockey. Calix City also boasts the Calix City Makos, a premier team in professional Kebecois hockey, home of many stars and who has produced many names in Kebecois hockey.

The Nordic Republic of Kebec is a mountainous frozen tundra ice-sheet situated in northern Atlantian Oceania, ice and icebergs dominate the mainland of Kebec with little to no trees within Kebec (only 500 exist), it is considered to be underdeveloped to the multiverse, however, this has been proven false with various Asgardian technologies, they have shown to the world, particularly during the co-hosting of the Global Cup of Soccer that they are quite developed with the newest and brightest technology. The current year on the Kebecois calendar is 2043 (its been three Kebec IC years since the WCoH), with the year winding down (October), its finally time for hockey once again. Kebec boasts a community of 14.9 million people, mostly of Viking descent, the dominant religion is Norse paganism (85%) although Protestant Christianity and native religions also have a firm hold in Kebec, the government of Kebec is the Chief Minister and the legislature known as the Vikingers' Council. More info can be found in the next post.

It is highly recommended nations competing read the omnipotent guide concerning sports roleplays and check out hockey for dummies.

Introduction

La République Nordique de Kebec (The Nordic Republic of Kebec) is a small, breathtaking country situated in northwestern Atlantian Oceania, a smaller country of sorts, however, an ethnic mixing pots, 13 major ethnicities refer to Kebec as their delightful (and frigid) home, despite their ethnic difference, the nation is able to father around their love for the nation that is Kebec and work thru all strife to recognize the beauty and sanctity of this oasis. Grounded in our roots of the ancient Norse peoples who once populated and roamed our lands freely, we return to our olden roots and believe in the work and testament to the Gods while being accepting to all world cultures, all 20 delegations visiting our humble abode will be treated to the upmost respect in their stays in Kebec where they will be offered beautiful views of the land, peoples and of course of the age.

History
According to Kebecois scientists, ancient Norsemen are said to have roamed toe Eckerbridge Fjords in northern Kebec, their bones have been tested, dating back to well over 1704 years ago, Kebec was one of the few, if not the only nation to be controlled by the Norse, originally called Skyatia by the ancient Norsemen. The Gualrahaog Rocks is considered major evidence pointing to the proof of discovery by the Norse, many runes talking of land are branded onto these, rocks, since then, they've been stored in the Kebec National History Museum. Skyatia why in practice a civilized tribal chiefdom was in essence an anarchy as thru its forty traced years of existence, there was revolt after revolt against the various Chiefs of the tribe. Eventually, by 1754, the last remnant of Skyatia seemed to fade into the distance, there were no known survivors of the Skyatia gene pool alas, the Norse were not done.

Many years later, by the time 861 had rolled by, a new peoples settled on the island, a formerly slave-race of mixed-Navajo-Norsemen, conveniently bagged with the whites as the Bilagnaa peoples settled on the island, setting up the first known government system on Kebec, naming their nation Groenland, the nation was lead by Erikson I The Mauler (798-894) from the beginning of its existence until thirty years after its birth, Erikson was defined by his formidable naval forces which were able to quell three separate attempted naval invasions of modern-day Kebec, preventing the end of Groenland.

Groenland continued on peacefully for centuries, considered one of the most successful Norse settlements in medieval history, known throughout Atlantian Oceania as the peak of Norse genius, able to prolong its stay thru pacts, agreements and the likes of its navy, however, by the 15th century, Groenland was fading -- fading fast. The first cracks showed when Timothy-Staggart VI The Wise died peacefully in 1486, setting up a feud between his two sons, Erikson Son of Crow Hair (his half-Navajo child) and Pilutes-Staggart (his Norse son), the two factions split and Pilutes-Staggart eventually sought the help of various world powers to defeat Erikson Son of Crow Hair. Pilutes-Staggart would make the mistake of asking the French to assist his faction which they gladly did, their superb power flattening Erikson Son of Crow Hair's side, ending any chance of victory, Erkison Son of Crow Hair suffered a terrible fate, forced to cut off each of his fingers before a slow slice thru his neck ended his reign. Pilutes-Staggart's was much worse as the French binded him and plucked out each of his eyes with a knife, ending the Groenland line of succession once and for all. And here began the French colonialism of modern-day Kebec Pierre de Michel, a French commander is considered the discoverer of Kebec, having set foot on the lands first.

By 20th century however, the French were forced to re-examine Kebec's place in the world, having ruled over the country since the late-1400s, Kebec had lay in French hands for over 500 years, by 1923, a strong fervor took the nation by storm as neo-Groenland rallies ripped thru the nation blow-by-blow. Outspoken "Freependists" as they were called yelled for independence in their city squares, many were rounded up by the French police and thrown in jail, however that never stifled the spirit of Kebec, eventually winning independence in 1936.

Since then, 99 years have passed since the founding of the Nordic Republic of Kebec, alas not all peaceful as The Great War, Kebec's first civil war brought the country to its knees between 1981-1995, forcing the country to reconsider itself and patch itself up. Brad Wall, current Prime Minister has done his best to further the pursue of life in Kebec, faced with many modern-day crisis's such as global-warming, small rallies of neo-colonialism and of course the ever-present problem of dealing with bitter enemies, Maraque. Kebec is an ever-changing, ever-eternal nation with the fire of the Norsemen in their hearts, the power of the Gods in their skies and their destinies in their hands, Kebec shapes its destiny.

Geography
Many say Kebec's geography is identical to that of Greenland's, while this has never been fully true, many scientists and geologists have supported these claims and extensive research on the country known as Kebec has been thoroughly conducted by the Kebec Ministry of Science and Development.

Southern Kebec contains the three administrative regions of Baldr Country, Odin Country and Dagr Country, all three regions are named after Norse deities and all three host major cities, Baldr hosting Eckerbride Fjord, the second largest port-city in Kebec, Odin Country being home of Sario, the nations' sprawling capital and Dagr Country holding Parthenos, the largest Greek-populated city in Kebec. the area is known for its rolling hills and mushy-ish snow, while snow falls on the ground year-round, it is quite easy to penetrate its' surface as the snow here is never tightly packed. The pristine lakes in this region are also noted for freezing over frequently, the legendary, young Kebecois star, Fabien de Saint-Pierre got his start playing on the lakes in nothing but shorts and a t-shirt.

Of course there are some strange and irregular quirks to southern Kebec, most notably Jötunheimr Range, the large Kebecois mountain range get's its start in southern Kebec before curling in a snake-like formation into the nation of Maraque. Jötunn, the mountain-giants who roam these mountains are known to be very protective, in many cases, humans have died attempting to scale the mountain ranges, forcing the Kebecois government to make it illegal for any to attempt it.

To the central areas and the north, the climate with the exceptions of Big Bay City and Calix City are all-in-all quite much the same, an ice-sheet has essentially formed in these areas, despite this, many flourishing cities have formed in the nation, for example, Wilsinton, a city of 19,000 built over an ice-sheet has more snow-mobiles than people and is rumored to be developing the first flying cars in Kebec. In the dryer parts of Kebec, an essential tundra of sorts has formed, temperatures regularly stay in the -40°F year-round with the warmest its been in years set last year at 4°F, vegetation is of course limited here, however, the rise of coniferous treescapes has stunned many in recent years. Fauna in these areas includes the like of Caribou, polar bears, the Golden Platypus, Kebec's national animal is the Eikthyrnir Deer which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, only 275 known members of this species remain.

Kebec generally has one climate, essentially winter year-round, while the Gods no doubt influence it from time-to-time, one must also account for Kebec's general placement in the world, finding its home in northwestern AO along the lines of two frigid seas and being rained on by frozen water year-round. Generally, in the south, the warmest part of the country, temperatures range from -3°F to a warm and toasty 31°F, last year saw a record temperature of 45°F and a warmer year on record. Of course, in the north, there is not much to ask for if you prefer the cold, only two times in existence has the climate gone over the '0-mark', this year and on July 28th, 1982. Of course, our meteorologists are of top-quality, many of them consulting with the Gods to determine to placement of todays', tomorrows' and the futures weather-pattern with the use of mortal instruments every once-in-awhile.

Due to our general alignment in the world, Kebec is gripped daily by immense snow-storms or avalanches as these cascade thru our sacred lands on an average of 5.3 snowstorm and/or avalanches/day, this setting a multiverse record and a first for the World Junior Hockey Championships. Of course, the Kebecois government has placed an excess of 200 Box-plows at every city hosting a Global Cup of Soccer-event to maintain a smooth freeway and keep our snow-lanes free for travel. We urge you not to panic in an event in which we are gripped by either two of our phenomena, many of our citizens have taken extensive training for dealing with these events and Kebecois building codes detail explicit information to build the safest buildings thru the lands.

The Bifrost Bridge, the other less-known phenomena is a notable time in Kebec, generally happening between January and March, during which an essential bridge of rainbows are formed and the portal to Asgard it opened to all seven realms, a select few Kebecois are allowed to intend including the high-members of Government and a lucky child in which they dine in the presence of the Gods and discuss pressing problems in Asgard and Kebec. The bridge opens in different parts of the country, last year it was Sario, this year the government has confirmed it will be Vikingtown, next year's arrival is slated for North Hampton -- a new place every year.

Visitation Process
Since the Arena Bombings at the Calix City Open, visiting Kebec has increased substantially, becoming one of the harder if not the hardest places to visit in Atlantian Oceania, for starters, Kebec's location makes it harder for most to visit, within the AO, using an aircraft will take around 7-13 hours to clear thru Kebec's godly protection in the air, travelling from the other three sporting regions, Esportiva, Rushmore and Astyria will take an estimated time of 12-25 hours using an aircraft and 30 hours using a state-approved portal spread thru the multiverse. Lastly, traveling in from any other region will take an estimated time of 45 hours with most of your time (30 hours) spent clearing thru international check-in and visa application and whatnot.

Getting around Kebec is notoriously strange, for starters, cars are almost obsolete in Kebec, generally, you are recommended to use a rented snowmobile which are available at 'National Snowmobile Rentals', the largest snowmobile-provider in the AO and in the multiverse or the Glide-Train, the Amtrak-like mag-lev government-funded train system connecting all parts of Kebec to and from each other. Snowmobiles are confined to driving on the massive and extensive National Snowways of the nation, many snowways have up to five lanes for snowmobile drivers to use, there are no speed-limits but we try to remind you not to express road-rage and attempt to knock off any person off their snowmobile. All visitors wishing to use a snowmobile must take a test at a National Driving Institute which will give you a guide to driving, if you pass the test, you will be able to rent or purchase a snowmobile, the NDI is conveniently located a stones-throw from the three major airports in Kebec, a block away in each case.

Transportation Kebec is notorious for its 'no-bars-held' methods, we do recommend you protect yourself at all times and make sure you stay off the snowways during 11pm-3am which is when government distribution begins to the many markets in Kebec.

When driving your snowmobile, we generally advise you to carry with you goggles, a non-flammable jacket, extra petrol and a fire-extinguisher alongside a visa-issued drivers-license, goggles will no doubt assist you when driving in heavy snow/hail, a non-flammable jacket is your best bet in a fire. National SnowMobile Rentals are known for having low gas remaining in their tanks, so, extra petrol will help you in the long run and of course, a fire-extinguisher in case you ever get caught in a bad spot (i.e. fire all around you and your burning up and dying). If you should be booked for a violation of the traffic codes in Kebec, your vehicle will be impounded and you shall be sent to jail for a duration of one work-week, following which you will be released and given three days to raise the necessary funds you need to pay the fines, if failure to do this happens, you will remain in jail for as long as Kebec wishes until your fine is paid.

Religion
Unless you suffer from profound stupidity, you would know the national and official religion of the Nordic Republic of Kebec is Norse paganism, however, we are willing and acceptant of all religions as Roman Catholicism is a dominant scene among French and Navajo peoples of the land.

During the short rule of Skyatia, Norse paganism was able to get a firm start upon the Kebecois mainland, dominating the scene during the entire existence of ancient Skyatia, its patron god was Dagr and at the time was the only thread that kept Skyatia held to civilization. The Norse goddess of fertility, Freyja was considered to be one of the most important Gods of the nation as scientists have uncovered ancient statues dedicated to her in Old Norse and rune language.

Norse paganism remained dominant until the arrival of French colonialism, during which Norse paganism largely unraveled at a rapid pace as Roman Catholicsm began to be the law of the land within fifteen years of its arrival. However, many records from this time point to many Norse worshippers who were martyrs for their beliefs, so the exact number of known Christians are contested tightly between those who willingly accepted it and those who practice paganism in secrecy.

Roman Catholicism was a dominant aspect of Kebec until the late-1700s upon the arrival of the Navajo who attempted to spread their religion and the likes of spiritualism thru the lands but were promptly crushed by the French colonial government. Bye 1810, many Navajos had been forced to accept Roman Catholicism and much if not all of the country were strong converts and Catholics. As times changes, so did liberalism as the French began to relax their religious laws, by 1899, some forms of Christianity aside from Roman Catholicsm was allowed, alas, people had to wait until 1910 until an entirely new religion resurfaced as during this time, a series of religious laws were passed, chief among this the allowance of Norse paganism once again. Neo-Norse paganism was rampant thru the country as the nation was quick to re-establish its national identity. By the 1920s, the arrival of the Cherokee had allowed for them to spread their cultures among the lands.

At the time of publication, Kebec is a religious melting pot, 48% of the population adheres to Norse paganism, 35-percent are Christians, scattered between the Catholics and the Prosestants where the Lutheran branch leads the rankings, the remaining 17% is split between Cherokee tribal religion and Greek paganism almost evenly. Kebec has grown to be an accepting country for all religions, committed to welcoming all, even Atheists are accepted with free and open hands. Norse pagan ministries are notable for large attendances, recently, the National Christian Comission, the governing Christian body in Kebec has attempted to draw more people to the religion by hosting frequent food-drives for the poor and underserved in the community.

Language
While many ethnicities and languages have found a landing in Kebec, only six of these can attest to being in 'the majors', a group that includes the original languages of pre-medieval, colonial and present-times languages, these included Old Norse & Runes, French, English, Navajo, Icelandic and Cherokee. However, by far the most popular is French, followed by English and Old Norse & Runes which remain tied, it is advised you carry with you a [insert your language here]-to-French dictionary or some form of translation device in order to speak with a regular Kebecois. 94% of all Kebecois declare French as their first language while of the 6% who do not speak it, 84% of them know a sizeable amount of it. As the others line up, English is adhered to by 82% with 1% as their mother-tongue, Old Norse & Runes with 82% with it and 4% as their mother tongue, Navajo with 16%, 0.1% as their mother-tongue, Icelandic with 54% and 03% registering it as their mother-tongue, finally, Cherokee, spoken by 27$ with 0.6% acknowledging it as their mother-tongue.

In edition, consult your travel agency with a guide to the three major languages, French, English and Old Norse & Runes as this will help you a great deal on your superb visit to Kebec, we hope you find Kebec to be gratifying and have the appropriate amount of shiny buildings desired by you.

Food & Basic Table Manners
Most Kebecois eat three or four regular meals a day, usually consisting of a cold breakfast with coffee, a cold (usually packed) lunch at work and a hot dinner at home with the family. Depending on the timing of family dinner (and personal habit), some may add a cold meal in the late evening, typically a simple sandwich.

Kebecois meals are divided into two areas, frokost which is breakfast and is served between 6-8AM and middag which is dinner, served 4 and 5PM. Additionally, if you are suffering from intense starvation, supper, called kveldsmat is served between 7-8PM. During frokost, Cereals such as corn flakes, muesli and wheat cereal are also popular, particularly with children, as is yogurt, additionally, yellow-custard is extremely popular among older adults, particularly the elder peoples of the nation. Middag is worshipped as the most important meal of the day and typically includes carbohydrate-rich foods such as potatoes and protein-rich foods such as meat or fish.

The Cities & Stadia

Frozen North
Calix City, Thor Country
For a truly accurate description of Calix City, it is important that you look up the word "youth" as that is what Calix City has made its name for, a city with two major colleges, Calix City Institute of Archaeology and Calix City University, Calix City is a melting-pot of all the young 'uns all out there hoping to earn their degrees (ahem... and party). The nightlife in this district is fantastic, imagine N$2 dollar beers, and all other forms of liquor, this is truly the discount superstore you've been waiting for, by far one of the cheapest cities to live in, it has attracted many people who come for the disco, the nightlife and the time you get to "turn up." Quite possibly, one of the best cities to live in.
  • Tourism: Come for the drinks, stay for the game, that's the secondary description of Calix City if you want a small, quaint settlement, then, this is not the place for you, if you want noise, rap music, dubstep and other annoyingly new-age type stuff, then welcome to the club. At first glance, Calix City is simply a rustic city, but, upon further glance, you'll see that its grown in leaps and bounds since being open to the multiverse when it hosted the NSAO 2-qualifying event, the Calix City Open which truly showed it to the world. Since then, Calix City has truly exploded, getting blessed with more and more people each day seeking to get a better education and better drinks for themselves.
  • Venue(s): Bay Athletics Arena (9 800) // Bay Athletics Arena was home of the Calix City Makos, one of the better teams in the KHL-1, last season reaching the league semifinals before their unfortunate exit, however, the arena is considered to be the loudest atmosphere in all of the KHL-1, since its closing, the Makos moved into beautiful New Cherywood across the street. There are discussions on whether or not to close down this arena or turn it over to Calix City's other club, Clube de Calix, currently, there are no plans. The arena is considered to be one of the most-boisterous in the league, with its interior design considered to be very intimidating. Many storied were made in this arena
Riverside Arena (6 500) // Riverside Arena is an old arena, its been in existence since 1982 - that's 61 years of continued and storied usage! Riverside Arena is the home KHL-1's other, less-famous Calix City team, Clube de Calix Sporting Club, it seats a respectable 6,5000 in its interior. Among other features, it included a state-of-the-art hot-tub on the ground floor and you can get you hair cut in the locker-rooms during games, so you'll certainly be having a ton of fun as your team fights for a chance to reach the coveted finals. Riverside Arena due to its oldness featured 1980s-styled stands, so, standing area is located at the front of the stands, just a fair warning to all those seeking to watch from the front. Many rats and other non-liked rodents dominate the landscape of the stadium, certainly expect a closure of this stadium soon, however, it has been host to many famous moments in international junior hockey, most-notably, Mercedini's famous sweep of the group stages during this time at WJHC 13. Unfortunaly, the storied arena will close down after sixty-one years, most-likely due to the opening of New Cherywood right across the Calix Fjords in downtown Calix.

Kebec National Hockey Team
Odin Cup 2

Name: La République Nordique de Kebec
Quick Intro: La République Nordique de Kebec (The Nordic Republic of Kebec) is a small, breathtaking country situated in northwestern Atlantian Oceania, a smaller country of sorts, however, an ethnic mixing pots, 13 major ethnicities refer to Kebec as their delightful (and frigid) home, despite their ethnic difference, the nation is able to father around their love for the nation that is Kebec and work thru all strife to recognize the beauty and sanctity of this oasis. Grounded in our roots of the ancient Norse peoples who once populated and roamed our lands freely, we return to our olden roots and believe in the work and testament to the Gods while being accepting to all world cultures, Kebec is renowned for its Asgardian-styled architecture and the blessings bestowed upon itself by the Gods of Asgard.
Region: Atlantian Oceania
Nicknames: Les Yetis Bleus (The Blue Yetis), The Icers (historical)
Colors: Kebecois Bleu, Blue, Silver, Gold, White
Stadium: New Cheerywood (capacity 18 200)
(View Here)
After years of enduring playing at the under-sized, hugely dilapidated Sario National Hall, the Kebecois national team and Hockey Kebec worked alongside KHL-1 team - the Sario Wizards to unveil a new state-of-the-art eighteen-thousand-plus seater arena in the heart of the capital city, New Cheerywood is built on top of the Cheerywood Palace, an old hockey arena back from the pre-Kebecois Winter War days during the 20th century, now, in modern times, New Cherywood stands in its place. Built two years ago and used for Kebec's WCoH 34 games, the arena is very new, though unfortunately, it will not be used as Odin Cup 2 games are to be placed in Calix City.

At current, the New Cheerywood beautiful arena can hold up to 18,200 people in its full seating-capacity, its situated in the "Portsmouth Disctrict" of Kebec - this area is considered to be he more modern era of Sario, it is known for being the home of Sario National College, many students are known to flock in this area. Beware - this area is frequented for college people looking for bars, as such, beer prices have skyrocketed in this area, expect to pay N$10 ber bottle and N$8 per can. All in all, New Cheerywood is a testament to Kebecois design, mixing ancient Greek architect and the more common and traditional French architects that is common in Kebec and creating a new style for the national arena, a symbol to behold and a well-timed one too as Hockey Kebec seems to be on the come up.

Hockey Association: Hockey Kebec (HK), headquartered in Sario, Odin Country.
    HA Chairman: Rau Fregan (new)

Team History
Kebec made its debut in international hockey with the World Cup of Hockey 30, contested in Norrehavn - then known as Kep, the national failed miserably, falling flat on its' face in its first try, losing each game (four) by an average of 3.7 points-per-game, this is usually considered a dark-mark in Kebecois hockey history and lead to the dissolution of the old Kespian Hockey Association and the Kep Island Hockey League. Fast-forward to 2036, under ex-coach Quentin Vaugrenard, Kebec qualified for World Cup of Hockey 33 and promptly fell flat on its face with a disappointing play. The sixth, revival edition of the Atlantia Oceania Hockey Championships saw new coach Alan Foye guide them to the knockout rounds until they suffered a 2-nil loss to Komarov-Thomiya, ending their Cinderella streak. In recent times, its taken place and participated in the Odin Cup Invitational, a pre-WCoH warm-up in which they performed well, reaching the finals before losing to Cosneolta 4-1.

Expanded History: Kebec's been trying at hockey since its founding, however, Kebecois hockey has only come to prominence recently in the past 5-10 years, the global launching and positioning of the Kebec Hockey League-1 and the Kebecois hockey pyramid system which has slowly grown to become one of the more well-known hockey leagues in the multiverse, when one thinks of Kebec, they now associate themselves with the KHL-1 if not Hockey Kebec. Kebec's first foray into international hockey was World Cup of Hockey 30, which as previously mentioned little data was collected on (i.e. I didn't roleplay) - resulting in some obscure info on the tournament, however, we do know Kebec's previous incarnation - Kep imploded, being completely destroyed on their march to a failure, this is usually referred to as the "Dark Age" of Kebecois or pre-Kebecois if you will, hockey, many have tried to downplay this in Kebec's hockey history, but it is common knowledge of their failures. Fast-forward almost twenty years to the 33rd edition of the WCoH, this time, under homegrown coach Quentin Vaugrenard. Vaugrenard had been considered a savior for Kebec heading into the competition - guiding the Big Bay Hawks all the way to the then-IHNL (now KHL-1) finals before losing in five games to the Albert-Cross Angels. Now, rightfully awarded the coaching duties, he was unable to right the ship as Kebec stumbled thru the WCoH 33 with blood gushing from its many cuts and wounds, it wound up going 1-1-8, a measly record that saw much shame brought upon the national team, leaving it with little chance of redemption. However, with a newfound push from the Kebecois hockey organization - Hockey Kebec, a push to guide Kebec into the top 15 in the world in three World Cup of Hockey-cycles, Kebec has re-concentrated its efforts on hockey, going as far as hiring Cosumarite former assistant coach and world champion, Alan Foye was brought in as the new coach of the senior national team, guiding the Kebecois team to a 4-1-1 showing at the AOHC 6 tourney in which they lost out in the quarterfinals of the tournament.
After that, they took place in the Hockey Kebec-sponsored Odin Cup Invitational an annual hockey tournament in which Kebec took on three other well-known hockey teams with the heavy-weights of Savojarna and Cosneolta being present, Kebec performed surprisingly well in the post-Fabien De Saint-Pierre-era, scoring nine goals thru the course of the tournament and demonstrating their clear offensive prowess, however a top-25 ranked Cosnoelota proved more than their match and they unfortunately succumbed to a regretful 4-1 victory. However, Alan Foye has certainly demonstrated that he can lead the team. Since arriving, Coach Foye has brought with him a new philosophy in hopes of growing the Kebecois game and adequately preparing them for the rigors of the World Cup of Hockey.
Entering World Cup of Hockey 34, there were heavy expectations for the Foye-lead squad, with Kebecois hockey fanatics demanding a Kebecois run at the quarter-finals, Coach Foye, the Cosumarite brought an identity to the team, which latched on, learning from previous mistakes and went on a 4-1-0 run at the group-stages, proving that within the post-De Saint-Pierre era, there is certainly an emerging star certainly in the works. Coach Foye, who seemed to really gel with the team, riding the wave of Kebecoi's euphoric rise in hockey, it stunningly dislodged Gregoryisgodistan out of the tournament, something that sent hockey supporters everywhere into shock, certainly giving Coach Foye much credibility in his ability to lead a team that was considered a lost cause. However, Novaya Zemlya who consistently prove to be Kebec's downfall in international hockey yet again ended the Kebecois reign, defeating them 4-3 in a tight Octofinals match. Coach Foye was awarded a four-tourney extension by Hockey Kebec under Rau Fregan, Odin Cup 2 and the upcoming WCoH 35 will be the first proofs for him on whether or not he truly is the real-deal for coaching or if the last tourneys were just a mirage.

Formation: 1-1-4 (utilizing extra forward)
Introducing a new manager is never easy, especially a new one in successive cycles, the Kebecois hockey federation - Hockey Kebec, has opted to name for Cosumar assistant coach and world champion Alan Foye as the Kebecois national team head coach for the next two years, signing a large ᛊ9.75-million (N$6-million) contract, ensuring that he heads the senior hockey team for two consecutive tenures, included, he signed a one-cycle opt-out that would shell out N$4-million if he chose to quit. A large expense that the Hockey Kebec organization was willing to gurantee however, one that will later come to assist the Kebecois side if this move pans out correctly as planned. The debut of the new coaching style of Alan Foye is a major increase from the relative defensive positioning seen previously under the likes of Vaugrenard. Foye introduces some new-styled tactics, the Kebecois formations will only utilize one defender and opt for four forwards with the edition of the utilitarian goalie charged with keeping the net clean of any pucks. Foye's formation will allow for flexibility on both sides of the ice, the fourth forward will be able to play a two-way system, its likely Foye will recruit a defensive-styled right-wing to play the extra position most likely.

Kit
Image

Info: The Kebecois national team introduced a new kit at AOHC 6, attempting to play on the flag of Kebec, Hockey Kebec denied an opportunity to renew their license with IceVille Kits - instead opting for a transfer to Oceanus Kits in an attempt to fine better-suited colors for the Kebecois national team. Pioneered mightily by Hockey Kebec's chairman, the new kits are a drastice improvement over IceVille's kit, these proudly display te national colors of the Kebecois nation and have been applauded mightily by many.

Declan Madgwick Memorial Stadium, Davenport, WYKN

Home to the Davenport Dockers - the most successful team in the ENIHL (Elejamian National Ice Hockey League) - and the national team. Built in 1992 to replace Dockside Stadium, which was eventually demolished in 1995, Davenport Stadium is the largest ice hockey arena in Elejamie, with a capacity of 18,500. The stadium was originally known as the Davenport Stadium but it also spent a brief spell in the early 2000s as the Rapid Beer Co. Stadium. Eventually, it was renamed the Declan Madgwick Memorial Stadium just in time for the start of the 2015/16 season, in honour of famed politician and diplomat Declan Madgwick (1927-2015).

HomeFiller Arena, Coventry, AVEN
Image

Built in 1989, the HomeFiller Arena is also known as the Coventry Arena, especially in situations where HomeFiller isn't sponsoring the event in question. With a total capacity of 17,000, it is also home to the Coventry Puffins; the backup stadium for the national ice hockey and basketball teams; home to the junior and U-18 ice hockey teams; and home to the Coventry Nets basketball team. It entered a sponsorship deal with furniture store HomeFiller in 2013. The deal, which was initially set to expire this year, has been extended to 2023.

My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose My Scorers: Yes
Godmod Scoring Events: Yes
RP Injuries to My Players: Yes (but nothing too serious; one person at a time and they can't be out for anything longer than two games. Killing is definitely out)
Godmod Injuries to My Players: Yes (same as above)
RP Penalties for My Players: Yes
RP Ejections for My Players: Yes (the longest they can be suspended for is one match)
Godmod Other Events: Depends on what it is. Fighting I'm OK with but it might be a good idea to TG anything else.

  • "Keh-reen Mah-loh-tahn"; "Payl Eh-tah-nahr"; "Ah-lah-YEHM Mahn ees-hoh-kee teem".
  • In the event that any of my players interest you and you want to sign them, please tell me which one you want, which club wants them and all the details. However, the Barajas brothers have both started playing in the Mercedinian Super League and Antonio Cervantes will be retiring in Summer 2018 (having spent his entire career with Ángeles de la Playa de Rocas), so they're out.
  • Please get back to me with RP info by 10pm BST. Otherwise, I'll go ahead and put my own stuff in.
  • My main enforcers are Francisco Solano, Lupe, George Lincoln, Carlos Sierra, Paul Morton, Ethan Swinburne, Pael Atener, Mike Keller and Bill Judge (who was Elejamie's main enforcer during WJHC8). The only players that don't fight are Antonio and Pedro Cervantes, Peter Berg, Cerin Meloten, Anatoly Kasputin and Lucas Madgwick. Everyone else can fight, just not as often as those first guys I've mentioned
  • Elejamie will wear their alt kit on MD1, MD4 and, should they make it there, QF1.
  • It's "Rubio Orosco". Not just "Rubio" and not just "Orosco". See below for why.
  • Pedro Cervantes is Antonio's nephew. Not his brother or his son. Using the traditional Spanish naming custom (father's surname followed by mother's) it's Antonio Cervantes Nakamura and Pedro Moreno Cervantes; the latter went by his mother's surname because there was already a "P. Moreno" on the team.
  • Danilo and Felipe Barajas are twin brothers, with Danilo being the oldest by about five minutes. Peter Berg's younger brother George plays in the junior team; however, the two of them aren't related to assistant coach and ice hockey veteran Ron Berg. And second forward line left-winger Lucas Madgwick is the son of head coach and Elejamian hockey legend Michael Madgwick.
  • For simples sake I'm going to say that, in my timeline, this happened a couple of weeks before the Winter Olympics.

Siovanija and Teusland National Hockey Team

Hockey is a national obsession in the United Republics of Siovanija and Teusland, with fans across the country flocking to games to support their favourite teams. The best players in the country play in the Republic Hockey League, a league with 20 teams from across the country. Now, the Hockey Association of Siovanija and Teusland (HAST) has decided to send a team of the best players from Siovanija and Teusland to the upcoming 35th World Cup of Hockey. First for the national side, however, is an invitational tournament known as the Odin Cup. Hosted by the nation of Kebec, 8 hockey teams from across the multiverse will compete for glory. Meet the players who will be representing our nation, and learn a bit about the team.

Official Name: United Republics of Siovanija and Teusland
Capital: Borograd
Team Nicknames: The Goldhorns
Trigramme: STL
Team Colours: Blue, yellow, white
Coach: Aaron Kuhn (Stelburg Kings)

OFFICIAL ROSTER FOR THE ODIN CUP

Goaltenders
G -- Ruslav IVANOV -- 26y/o -- Pomorie Pirates (RHL) -- #1
G -- Willy WERNICKE -- 28y/o -- St. Jakob Saints (RHL) -- #30
G -- Ventseslav VALCHEV -- 25y/o -- Trkev Whalers (RHL) -- #31

Between the pipes, the team appears to be in good hands with some of the best goaltenders in the RHL donning the blue-yellow jersey. Ruslav Ivanov is generally considered the top goaltender in the league, and his butterfly style is what coach Aaron Kuhn will be relying on, with Ivanov taking the number 1 as the starter. Willy Wernicke, the St. Jakob goalie, is a solid, experienced backup who can be relied on, while Ventseslav Valchev is about as solid a third goaltender a team could have. Neither will be expecting to play much unless Ivanov should suffer an injury.

Defencemen
RHD -- Bojidar IVANKOV -- 25y/o -- Pomorie Pirates -- #2
RHD -- Fabian AUER -- 24y/o -- Stahlberg Steelers -- #3
LHD -- Koloman SCHWARZMANN -- 21y/o -- Teufelsberg Devils -- #4
LHD -- Zhelyasko IVANOV -- 23y/o -- Trkev Whalers -- #5
LHD -- Gregor HERDER -- 22y/o -- Stelburg Kings -- #6
RHD -- Lothar SCHERDER -- 25y/o -- Stelburg Kings -- #8
LHD -- Timo HORN -- 25y/o -- St. Jakob Saints -- #24
RHD -- Jorg GOTTSCHALL -- 22y/o -- Marlesee Sea Lions -- #25

The defence core of the national team is led by youth. This has placed some question marks around the D, because many of these players are still inexperienced and prone to errors. However, they have also proven their worth in the RHL last season. Bojidar Ivankov and Timo Horn were some of the best defensive defencemen in the league, while Jorg Gottschall led all defenders in points. Koloman Schwarzmann is a young player whose stock has increased massively since becoming the Devils' go-to guy on the blueline. The Stelburg Kings due of Herder and Scherder are a good shut-down pair with great chemistry together. The D will have plenty of tests to pass in the eyes of fans, but solid play in the first few games of the Odin Cup should shut down much of the talk. At the same time, if goals leak in, questions will be raised about the point of picking a defence core with an average age of 23.37.

Forwards
LW -- Kosyo VARBANOV -- 23y/o -- Trkev Whalers -- #7
LW -- Rupert GANZFIELD -- 26y/o -- Stelburg Kings -- #11
LW -- Alexander SCHNYDER -- 23y/o -- Teufelsberg Devils -- #13
LW -- Veselin FILIPOV -- 24y/o -- Olympia Borograd -- #15
C -- Gunter PFENNING -- 23y/o -- St. Jakob Saints -- #9
C -- Wolfram HOLTZ -- 21y/o -- Kaiserhaven Knights -- #10
C -- Edgar SECKBACH -- 24y/o -- Marlesee Sea Lions -- #20
C -- Gero RADULOV -- 22y/o -- Vrnovo Admirals -- #64
C -- Enyo NANKOV -- 24y/o -- Bukovets Rockets -- #22
RW -- Razvigor TSVETANOV -- 18y/o -- Pomorie Pirates -- #19
RW -- Grozdan ADAMOV -- 26y/o -- Vlaikograd Lakers -- #12
RW -- Wolfram SPIEGEL -- 26y/o -- Stelburg Kings -- #17
RW -- Mihael GAVRILOV -- 26y/o -- Orlovska Bistrica Eagles -- #14
RW -- Gunter BURCHARDT -- 25y/o -- Teufelsberg Devils -- #21

The national team's forwards have brought together some of the best scorers in the RHL, including Top Pointscorer Gunter Pfenning, widely considered the best player on this team and in the RHL. His ability to pass the puck, and incredible hand-eye coordination, make him an extremely valuable player for this team. The centre depth continues, with Holtz and Seckbach both leading their teams in points last season, while Radulov and extra forward Nankov bring a more two-way style to the team. On the wing is where the goalscoring talent amplifies, however. On left wing, Alex Schnyder and Rupert Ganzfield finished 2-3 in the point-scoring race, while Kosyo Varbanov was one of the most effective pure snipers in the wing in the RHL last season. Veselin Filipov is an energy player who can make big hits and kill penalties, supporting his more offensive teammates. On the right side, the RHL's top goalscorer Wolfram Spiegel lines up at the top, but he is closely followed by top rated 18-year-old Razvigor Tsvetanov. Tsvetanov posted a great 30-goal season his rookie year in the RHL for Pomorie, and is being talked about as a potential legend of hockey in Siovanija and Teusland. Also with them, Grozdan Adamov and Mihael Gavrilov were players who scored lots of points on poor RHL teams. Gunter Burchardt is another extra forward on the team who could offer a spark off the bench if called upon, he was known for scoring several late goals for the Devils last season.

Captain: Gunter Pfenning
Assistant Captains: Koryo Varbanov, Wolfram Holtz

LW- C - RW
Line 1: Varbanov - Pfenning - Spiegel
Line 2: Schnyder - Seckbach - Tsvetanov
Line 3: Ganzfield - Holtz - Gavrilov
Line 4: Filipov - Radulov- Adamov
Extra: Burchardt, Nankov

LD - RD
Pair 1: Horn - Ivankov
Pair 2: Gottschall - Auer
Pair 3: Herder - Scherer
Extra: Ivanov, Schwarzmann (Normal 7th D)

Powerplay Unit 1: Schnyder - Pfenning - Spiegel, Gottschall-Auer
Powerplay Unit 2: Ganzfield - Seckbach - Tsvetanov, Herder-Schwarzmann
Penalty Kill Unit 1: Filipov-Radulov, Horn-Ivankov
Penalty Kill Unit 2: Holtz-Gavrilov, Herder-Scherer
Extra Attacker (Order of Priority if not on ice): Schynder, Tsvetanov, Ganzfield

National Jerseys
The national jerseys for the Odin Cup and 35th World Cup of Hockey were designed to represent the entire nation. For the home jersey, the primary colours of blue and yellow were chosen as representing both Siovanija (blue) and Teusland (yellow). The main logo of the jersey is the national animal of the country, the mythical Goldhorn, a chamois buck with horns of gold who lives high in the mountains. The Goldhorn stands in a mountain background, with the writing 'SIOVANIJA UND TEUSLAND' (SIovanija and Teusland in the Teus language) underneath. On the away jersey, the design is the same with 2 changes. The blue background colours has changed to white to better reflect an away jersey, while the writing underneath the Goldhorn now says 'SIOVANIJA I TEUSLAND' (Siovanija and Teusland in the SIovanijan language). While perhaps not the most beautiful uniforms in the world, they represent the nation and the players and fans are proud to wear them in support.

My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my Scorers: Yes, wingers on the top two lines will be most likely to score.
Choose Scoring Events: Yes
Godmod Scoring Events: Yes, as long as it could realistically happen in a hockey game
RP Injuries to my Players: Yes, I determine length/severity
Godmod Injuries to my Players: Yes as long as it could realistically happen in a hockey game
Godmod Other Events: Yes, as long as it could realistically happen in a hockey game.

Style Modifier: +3.7

The Odin Cup gets underway soon, and with it Siovanija and Teusland's heroes will get their first international test. Can the Goldhorns produce something special in their first ever tournament? The answer will come soon.

STELBURGER ZEITUNG

LATE EDITION -- SPORTS

'JUST THE BEGINNING'

Siovanija and Teusland got off to a slow start at the 2nd Odin Cup invitational in Calix City, Kebec, and it was the team from Esparmuran who skated away with a 2-0 victory on the first day of competition.

Pre-match, coach Aaron Kuhn seemed to admit that his team weren’t the favourites in the match: “Obviously, Esparmuran have reached the finals of the World Cup of Hockey before and are ranked pretty high, whereas we are a newcomer on the scene. Of course I believe in the players we’re sending out to play, but we have to be realistic too.” Captain Gunter Pfenning seemed to echo those thoughts, asking fans of the team to refrain from jumping to conclusions after one game. Expectations, whether rightfully so or not, were still high on the team from their own fans at home. With Ruslan Ivanov starting the tournament in net, the stage was set for the debut of Siovanija and Teusland.

The puck drop for the first period revealed a Goldhorns side that seemed a little off the pace to start, hemmed into their own zone early in the game. Just 2 minutes into the game, an Esparmuran winger fired a one-time shot off the post, and the Goldhorns had already gotten away with one. The luck would soon run dry, however, and after Timo Horn was forced to ice the puck, Siovanija and Teusland were caught on the ice after a long shift.

Edgar Seckbach was unable to win the draw against the Esparmuran centre who pulled the puck back to his defender at the point. Faking a slapshot, he instead passed to the open wing man who blasted the puck past Ruslan Ivanov before he could even see it. Just 4:08 into the first period, Esparmuran led the game 1-0.

Following the goal came a high-energy period of play without a stoppage, as both sides played an open game of hockey and Siovanija and Teusland looked much better both on and off the puck. Ivanov made a critical breakaway save to keep the score at only 1-0, while Gunter Pfenning’s wrist shot had the goaltender beat but was just an inch or two wide of the goal. Nearer to the end of the period, the Goldhorns got a power play opportunity as an Esparmuran defender went off for slashing. The power play looked cold, however, getting off only 2 shots and the chance was wasted. The teams went into the first intermission with a score of Esparmuran 1, Siovanija and Teusland 0.

The start of the second period saw a Siovanija and Teusland team that looked hungry, and at times looked en route to a victory. Razvigor Tsvetanov had a great chance to equalize from the low slot, but his powerful wrist shot only hit the crossbar. Timo Horn’s deflected point shot forced a great save from the Esparmuran goalie, and the momentum seemed to be with the team in blue and gold.

Momentum shifts quickly in hockey games, however, and it was Grozdan Adamov who was sent to the box at 8:23 of the second period for high-sticking. The Esparmuran of the first five minutes seemed to return, and they had several great opportunities with the man advantage that were kept out only by an incredible effort from Ruslan Ivanov, who was the best penalty killer for the Goldhorns all night. Back to even strength, the Goldhorns picked back up the pace but in reality chances were few and far between for the side, and Esparmuran had the better run of play to close out the period. With no scoring in the second period, the sides headed into the third period with only 1 goal between them.

Again the Goldhorns started with energy, but again their plot for an equalizer was foiled by great defensive work from Esparmuran. Alexander Schnyder had arguably the chance of the game for Siovanija and Teusland, but he was robbed with an incredible glove save. As time wore on, the Goldhorns began to become increasingly frustrated with their inability to score. Frustration leads to poor play, and it was unfortunately poor play that would ultimately throw any chance of the Goldhorns winning the opening match away. With 7 minutes to go in the period, Bojidar Ivankov was called on a tripping penalty in the offensive end. A bad penalty to take, however the Goldhorns would get away with it this time, killing off the two minutes.

Just seconds after Ivankov stepped back onto the ice, however, with Esparmuran still on the attack, it was winger Mihael Gavrilov sent to the box for high sticking. 30 seconds into the powerplay, Timo Horn had a lapse in concentration and was beat by his man, who went around him and pulled the puck to his backhand before going above Ruslan Ivanov. Ivanov lay beaten in the net, as Esparmuran’s 2-0 victory was secured.

At the final horn, the Goldhorns left the ice disappointed, but could leave with their heads held high, according to coach Aaron Kuhn: “Look, obviously it’s not nice to lose games, but for our first international game we played pretty well I thought. Now, we need a full 60 minute effort like the first 8 minutes of that second period, and we have to be more disciplined. But overall, it was a decent start.” Mihael Gavrilov also spoke to the media, saying “First off, I’d like to apologize to all the fans back home for my penalty, that wasn’t how I play. But it’s like coach said, we need to be more consistent in order to win.” Finally, captain Gunter Pfenning added a soundbite of his own, saying “Just the beginning for us, look I know it’s cliche but we’ve gotta get pucks deep, get pucks to the net, and come out next time flying.” Fan reaction to the game was similar to that of coach Kuhn’s, with the fans understanding it will take time for the players to get used to the international scene and that it was overall a good performance.

Next up for the Goldhorns are the Imperan Olympic Athletes, a team of players who will be heading to the Winter Olympics very soon and are in Kebec as preparation for that tournament. The IOA lost their first match as well, 1-0 against Elejamie and it will be another opportunity for Siovanija and Teusland to grab an all-important win on matchday 2 of the Odin Cup.

Notes: Ruslan Ivanov stopped 47 shots during the 2-0 loss against Esparmuran….Koloman Schwarzmann served as the 7th D-man in the line up, and looks like he will keep that role against the IOA…...Timo Horn led Siovanija and Teusland in ice time with 29:04, playing almost half the game due to penalty trouble in the third period…..Ventseslav Valchev, Zhelyasko Ivanov and Enyo Nankov were healthy scratches for the Goldhorns.

Unfamiliar League Names (just in case)
RJJL - National Junior Hockey League (Ontorisa)
MJL - Mountain Hockey League
SJL - Island Hockey League
OUJL - Ontorisan University Hockey League
ENHL - Eglasouran National Hockey League
HZE - Heratoian Ice Hockey Association
KFAC106 - Kejian National Hockey League

Please note, I do use real life hockey leagues in some rosters.

Forwards

SNP - Sniper - An accurate and offensive player who sacrifices team play in order to push for that goal that the team needs. As well, snipers tend to not be very physical.

PWF - Power Forward - A good mix between a scorer and a hitter. Power Forwards are not afraid to lay out the body but can also put the puck in the back of the net as well.

PLY - Playmaker - Players who want to move the puck effectively and don’t care too much about giving up the body and not being able to make a hit

TWF - Two-Way Forward - A well balanced build for players who want to be responsible defensively. A great hitter and great at taking faceoffs

GRD - Grinder - A tough player who plays with an edge. Incredibly fast and can make life hard on defense with an aggressive forecheck.

DEF - Defensive Forward - A player who plays better in his own end than in the offensive zone. Typically these players are extremely defensively-minded, and have solid defensive capabilities such as shot blocking, poke checking and face-offs.

ENF - Enforcer - A player who can’t wait to drop the gloves. Takes the body any chance he gets. His job is get in the other team’s face and just be aggressive in general

Defence

OFD - Offensive Defenseman - Tends to be an active element in both the offensive and defensive aspects of hockey, but can be counted on to be out of position due to the love of carrying the puck and being on offence.

DFD - Defensive Defenseman - A shut down guy who can lower the boom on players with his size and strength. Very good at shutting down offensively-potent players.

PLD - Playmaking Defenseman - A defenseman who is capable of creating plays from the blueline. Unlike an offensive defenseman, a playmaking defenseman usually doesn't have the offensive capabilities of an offensive defenseman, but is better defensively.

TWD - Two-Way Defenseman - Can play both sides of the puck. Much like the two-way forward, the two-way d-man is pretty solid in all categories with no stand outs and not many serious flaws.

END - Enforcer Defenceman - Loves to lay the body and make players pay for their decisions. Can count on these guys intimidating the other team but not doing much of anything else.

Goalie

HYB - Hybrid - A mix between the traditional butterfly and stand-up, where the goalie focuses more on athleticism, reaction, save selection and positioning to make saves rather than just using their body. Most common style of hockey goal tending today.

BUT - Butterfly - The style where goalies go down on both pads with their toes pointing outwards and the tops of their pads meeting in the middle, thus closing up the five hole. This results in a "wall" of padding without any holes, lowering the chances of low angle shots getting in. These goalies rely on timing and position.

STU - Stand-Up - The style, goaltenders are to stop the puck from a standing position, not going down. The goalies may bend over to stop the puck with their upper body or may kick the puck. Such saves made by kicking are known as kick saves or skate saves. They may also simply use their stick to stop it, known as a stick save.

STELBURGER ZEITUNG

LATE EDITION -- SPORTS

'WHEEL SNIPE CELLY'

It was a night to remember for hockey fans from Siovanija and Teusland, as the national team grabbed its first ever win in a 1-0 match against the Imperan Olympic Athletes from the Riverside Arena in Kebec.

Following the 2-0 defeat against Esparmuran, hopes were high among fans of the team that they could pull off victory over the IOA in game two. They certainly would need to if they wanted any chance of advancing from the group stage of the Odin Cup, a fact the players seemed to know. Winger Alexander Schnyder said “We know the situation, realistically if we lose this game we’re pretty much out. It’s important to go out and set the tone early.” Coach Aaron Kuhn echoed Schnyder, telling the Stelburger Zeitung that “I have total faith in the guys out there, each of them knows what they have to do. It’s a game 7 situation for us.” Fans at home, if they could bear their nerves, were waiting, and watched the beginning of the game with bated breath.

The Goldhorns got off to a much better start than in the opening game, and played physical, fast-paced hockey in the opening minutes. Timo Horn received loud cheers from the arena as he threw a crushing hip-check at an IOA winger a few minutes into the game, but just a few minutes later it was the referee’s whistle he was hearing. Horn received the first penalty of the game on a tripping call, and went to the box.

The IOA had a few shots with the man advantage, but could not find their way past Ruslan Ivanov, who made a brilliant pad save to deny a rebound at his doorstep. While the IOA seemed in control during the power play, the momentum was soon back with the Goldhorns. They peppered the opposing goal with shots during the first period, however each attempted was turned aside. It was beginning to look like the late stages of the Esparmuran game, with the snipers silenced. When the horn sounded for the first period, Siovanija and Teusland led in puck possession, hits, penalty minutes and shots, however the scoreboard read 0-0.

The second period was more of the same for the Goldhorns to start, as they seemed to be skating circles around their opponents in the opening minutes. Another penalty on Gregor Herder changed all that, however, and the IOA came again so close on the man advantage. Once the teams returned to even strength, the game was much more open than it had been, and it looked as if the Goldhorns would rue not scoring when they had seemed to be in control. A shot from the point beat Ruslan Ivanov and it seemed as if the nation’s collective hearts sunk. Luckily, the puck hit the crossbar and went out of play.

With just 6 minutes left in the second period, the nation could finally celebrate. The IOA turned the puck over on breaking out, which gave Siovanija and Teusland a 3-on-2 rush. Tsvetanov, Seckbach and Schnyder looked ready for the kill as they came in over the blue line. Seckbach played the puck for Schnyder who faked a shot but actually dropped it onto the sick of Razvigor Tsvetanov. Tsvetanov’s one timer was perfectly placed and found the back of the net. It was hard not to appreciate the sight of the 18-year-old smiling wide as he skated back to the bench with the puck in hand. The puck is destined for the National Hockey Hall of Fame, as the first-ever goal scored by the national team.

The Goldhorns killed out the period without much effort, and they seemed to be on their way to 3 points in the tournament. The third period began without much fanfare, with coach Aaron Kuhn telling his team to play simply smart hockey. The flash and flare of the opening periods seemed to be gone from the Goldhorns, but the offensive instinct was still present. They often pressed the attack, and got many shots on the opposing goaltender. The IOA’s goalie put on an incredible showing on the day, stopping 59 of 60 shots.

The last challenge for the Goldhorns in this game was a penalty assessed to Edgar Seckbach for cross-checking. The penalty kill units headed out, and played a perfect 2 minutes of defensive hockey to see out the time. The rest of the match was uneventful, and at the end of the match it was the Goldhorns who heard their anthem and saw the flag raised in victory. Saluting the fans with their sticks, they left the ice in a celebratory mood.

Unsurprisingly, the man (boy?) most people wanted to interview first was the goal scorer, Tsvetanov. Missing a front tooth, he spoke in broken English with a thick Siovanijan accent: “Boys get win, well done. My goal? Uh, wheel snipe celly!” Stepping in to interpret, his Pomorie Pirates teammate Ruslav Ivanov said: “Haha, that’s Raz’s favourite phrase. It’s just English hockey slang, first English he learned I think. It just means skate fast, score goals and celebrate.” Whatever it means, the phrase ‘Wheel Snipe Celly’ has gone viral overnight in Siovanija and Teusland; videos of Tsvetanov’s interview being the most popular video on vidbe.st, a popular video sharing website.

Looking ahead to the next match, the Goldhorns will take on the side from Elejamie. A big name in the international hockey scene, the Icy Elephants are currently 2-0 in the group following a big 4-1 win over Esparmuran. “We said this one was a game 7, we have to treat the game with Elejamie as one as well. No more room for mistakes,” were Aaron Kuhn’s comments. Ruslan Ivanov, who stopped 29 shots in the shutout over IOA, will get the start. A spot in the play-off round is up for grabs as the Goldhorns continue at the Odin Cup.

Notes: Ruslan Ivanov has posted a 0.974 save percentage through his two starts at the Odin Cup…...Koloman Schwarzmann dressed as the 7th defenceman for the Goldhorns, but he will likely be replaced by the more defensive option Zhelyasko Ivanov against Elejamie…...Timo Horn again led the Goldhorns in ice time, with 26:42 total time on ice…..Ventseslav Valchev, Zhelyasko Ivanov and Enyo Nankov were again healthy scratches.

STELBURGER ZEITUNG

LATE EDITION -- SPORTS

'BUZZING'

In one of the most exciting and tense hockey games you will ever see, Siovanija and Teusland secured advancement to the playoffs of the Odin Cup with a 5-2 victory over Elejamie.

The Goldhorns entered another game 7 situation, which was made very clear during their pre-game press conferences. “I said this after our last game, but this is do or die. If we want to move on in this tournament, we’re going to need to play flawless hockey,” were coach Aaron Kuhn’s words. Ruslan Ivanov, the goaltender who has been so solid for the Goldhorns in the group stage, said: “I’m ready to go, and I know this team is as well. We’ve gotta play our style, play hard and give the fans what they deserve.”

Another question asked of the Goldhorns was the recent release of World Rankings for hockey. The rankings placed Elejamie as the best team in the world. “Look, obviously they are a great team who have worked hard to get where they are. We’re just starting our international hockey journey, but if we play them well we can put in a good showing for our fans, and prove that we’re going to catch them some day,” Gunter Pfenning replied. “I’m not here to talk about other teams, I’m here to talk about my team. Of course we aren’t big favourites; but we can’t worry about ranks or anything like that. We have a job to do, we need to focus on that job,” Aaron Kuhn said as he encouraged the team to stay focused. As the puck dropped at the Riverside Arena, fans eagerly awaited the clash ahead of them.

Elejamie came flying out of the gate, and Siovanija and Teusland learned early on why they are considered world number 1. For nearly the first 4 minutes of the game, the Goldhorns struggled to move the puck out of their zone. Elejamie looked hungrier than the Goldhorns did, and it showed. The Goldhorns did not have their heads in the game, and an exhausted Fabian Auer’s clearance attempt found its way over the glass, meaning a 2 minute delay of game penalty. Clearly frustrated, he was sent off. It didn’t take long for Elejamie to get going on the powerplay, and after going d-man to d-man, the Elejamie defender Lupe was able to blast home a slap shot to give his team the lead.Just 5 minutes in, the Goldhorns had barely touched the puck and found themselves down 1-0.

Aaron Kuhn immediately called for a time-out, and if looks could kill the, the Goldhorns would need to find replacement players. He tore into the players and urged them to get their heads in the game and wake up. The Goldhorns looked a different side coming out of the break. Immediately beginning to play at a much higher tempo, they hit hard and went into every corner to battle for pucks. It was not long before a reward came. Kosyo Varbanov had the puck below the net, and put a beautiful tape-to-tape pass onto the stick of Gunter Pfenning. Pfenning’s wrist shot was rifled into the top left corner, and the Goldhorns had tied the score with 5 minutes left in the first period.

Standing their ground, the Goldhorns refused to lay off and kept up the intensity. Only two minutes remained on the clock when Fabian Auer, seeming to make up for his bad penalty earlier in the game, crushed Elejamie winger Bill Harrison with a powerful check. Picking up the puck afterwards, Auer dished the puck off to Edgar Seckbach who gained the offensive zone. Circling the net, he found an open Razvigor Tsvetanov at the point. Tsvetanov’s power slap shot could not be stopped and he had his second of the tournament, giving the Goldhorns a 2-1 lead at the end of the first period.

The second period’s opening mirrored the first, with Elejamie pressing hard on the Goldhorns and Ruslan Ivanov being forced to make several big saves. This time, however, there was a spark in the play of Siovanija and Teusland, and each time they were pushed to the brink, they came back with just as much force. Bojidar Ivankov made a block on a powerful shot from the point, and kicking the puck to his stick played a long lead pass for Wolfram Spiegel. The man who led the RHL in scoring would not be denied on the breakaway opportunity; and he went bardown to put the Goldhorns 3-1 up.

Now there was a real skip in the step of the Goldhorns, and they began to pull away and not look back. Barely 2 minutes had passed since the first goal, when they forced a penalty call. With the goalscorer Lupe off for tripping, Siovanija and Teusland’s power play got to work. Gunter Pfenning worked the puck along the boards, playing it over to Jorg Gottschall. The offensive defenceman’s first instinct was to shoot, which he did and the shot was blocked and deflected into the corner. Alexander Schnyder worked his way onto the puck, and played it over to Fabian Auer. Auer played it directly back to Schynder who lit the lamp for his first of the tournament, and a 4-1 lead for the Goldhorns. The Riverside Arena was stunned, as the loud section of fans from Siovanija and Teusland sung the national anthem with pride.

Elejamie had not been killed off just yet, however. They bit back soon after the fourth goal, as they broke free on a rush up the zone catching the Goldhorn defense asleep. Gregor Herder’s last-ditch effort at a save was not enough, and Bill Harrison fired the puck into the bottom right corner to cut the lead to only 2 goals. Elejamie continued to press in the closing minutes of the second period, but it didn’t get them anywhere and the horn sounded with the score at 4-2.

The Goldhorns entered the third period much more cautiously, and looked to prevent being caught off guard again in the opening minutes of the period. While being much safer in possession, this did not mean that all offense was ruled out. In fact, the Goldhorns would add to their tally about 8 minutes into the period. Timo Horn held the puck behind his own goal as the Goldhorns made a line change, and he fired the puck up to Razvigor Tsvetanov. The speedy winger blew past his man and raced in one on one against the goalie. His incredibly powerful shot went upstairs for his second of the night, and the Goldhorns found themselves with a 5-2 lead. That would be how the match ended, and the players left the ice in high spirits.

As with the previous win, every player from the Goldhorns seemed to want an interview. Coach Aaron Kuhn was up first, saying “Obviously we’re happy, we got the big win. We don’t have time to celebrate, though, there’s another game coming up and it’s playoffs. This isn’t the time to lose focus.” Asked what he said during the timeout, he said “I told them it was embarrassing, what they’d been playing like out there. I told them to figure it out.” Wolfram Spiegel smiled when he heard that, adding “There were a few more words in there, but you won’t want to print those.” Razvigor Tsvetanov spoke again after becoming a media darling in his last interview, saying: “I want to say ‘wheel snipe celly’ again, but I won’t. We play perfect game, great effort, now we move on.” Gunter Pfenning spoke for the team when he said: “We’re buzzing for the play-offs, we couldn’t be happier to be in this position and it’s a great opportunity for this team.”

It is onwards and upwards for the Goldhorns, who thanks to the win topped their group. That puts them into the play-off rounds of the Odin Cup here in Kebec. Obviously, the team are hoping to win the tournament, but it will be difficult with sides like the host Kebec, Ontorisa and Elejamie advancing as well. The action will continue from Kebec, and we’ll be watching the Goldhorns every step of the way.

STELBURGER ZEITUNG

LATE EDITION -- SPORTS

'FULL OF ENERGY'

In a match that will be remembered for a long time by hockey fans in Siovanija and Teusland, the Goldhorns defeated Ontorisa 1-0 in overtime to advance to the finals of the Odin Cup.

The Goldhorns were cautiously confident going into the match, played at the Bay Athletic Arena, which held a slightly larger capacity than the Riverside Arena the round robin had been played at. Fans of the Goldhorns were again out in full force, as they made the long and extremely difficult journey from the homeland to Kebec to watch the team. Pre-match, coach Aaron Kuhn spoke to the media: “We’ve come a long way in this tournament, it’s been great for the guys to develop chemistry and get a string of wins going. Now, we go to the semifinals, and we know that we’re 60 minutes of good hockey away from a shot at winning.” Gunter Pfenning told the reporters that “We’re really happy to have such good support here, especially since it’s so hard to visit Kebec. We want to give the fans another show out there and advance to the finals tonight.” With an arena eager to get underway, the puck dropped on the Odin Cup semi-final.

For all their talk of playing for the fans and playing good hockey, the Goldhorns got off to a slow start out of the gate again. They were pushed into their own zone, and in the opening minutes seemed just a step off the pace set by Ontorisa. Ruslan Ivanov was required to come up big and make some good saves in the opening minutes of the period, and he denied Rij Torisaller with a beautiful glove save to keep the score even. Ivanov’s stellar play seemed to inspire his team-mates, and the Goldhorns really started to play hockey soon after.

The first big chance of the game for the Goldhorns came on the power-play. Tuk Vabamaz took a tripping penalty in his own zone, and it gave the special teams a chance to get going. Fabian Auer quarterbacked the power-play early on, moving the puck around the zone and getting plenty of shots off himself. Alex Schnyder blasted a one-timer off the crossbar, and the puck fell to Wolfram Spiegel. He couldn’t get his stick properly on the rebound, however, and the chance was missed.

It’s often said that one big chance missed at one end leads to a great opportunity at the other end, and that was the case in the first period. Spiegel’s miss left the puck on the stick of Ontorisan defender Olms Sagerid, who passed the puck up to Vabamaz who was just coming out of the box. Vabamaz had a breakaway opportunity, but he was again robbed by Ruslan Ivanov, who played possibly his best game of the tournament. Ontorisa closed out the period having an advantage in the flow of play, but the score remained tied 0-0.

The second period was a fast, open period with again lots of chances for both teams. Oskar Kosnant had a brilliant chance for Ontorisa, but the pad of Ruslan Ivanov came up big yet again in order to stop him. Breaking away, the Goldhorns had a great chance, but Razvigor Tsvetanov’s snapshot was just over the bar and did not do what he expected. The young winger was clearly frustrated, and after scoring 3 goals in his first three games didn’t have as good a game in the semi-final. The guns were silenced on both sides through the first two periods, and it was mainly thanks to stellar defensive work that the score remained 0-0. Ruslan Ivanov also stood on his head in a game that turned into a goaltender’s duel by its final stanza.

Entering the third period, it could be assumed that only one goal would separate the sides. The third period was therefore a lot slower than the first 40 minutes, as both sides tried to avoid making a game-costing mistake. When the horn rang for the end of the game, it was still 0-0 and overtime awaited the sides, with a birth in the Odin Cup finals on the line. A fast tempo saw the start of the extra period, and it wasn’t long before the Goldhorns got a break. Gunter Pfenning and Alexander Schnyder got a 2-on-1 opportunity. Pfenning played the puck over to Schnyder who rifled the puck past the finally-beaten Mathieu Cassenault. The fast-flowing game, which saw 52 shots by the Goldhorns and 47 by their opponents, was finally over.

The Goldhorns now advance to the finals of the Odin Cup, and they will take on the host side, Kebec, who defeated Elejamie in a 4-3 overtime win. “Obviously it’s going to be a different task, we won’t have much support from the crowd but we’re going to ignore that and just play our best. Kebec are a good side, and playing at home, but we’re always confident,” said the goalscorer Alex Schynder. Ruslan Ivanov said, “Look, we’ve played some awesome hockey in this tournament, and I just need to go out one more time and give the boys a chance to win. This room believes we can do it, and I know the boys will be going out full of energy and motivation.” The match against the hosts gives the Goldhorns a chance to take home the prize from their first international tournament, a great warm-up for the World Cup of Hockey. The entire nation will again be watching.

Notes: Ruslan Ivanov’s 47 saves keeps his save percentage at 0.974 on the tournament…..Ivanov will get the start in the final game…….Koloman Schwarzmann dressed as the seventh defenseman…….Willy Wernicke, Zhelyasko Ivanov and Enyo Nankov were healthy scratches.
