NSG Senate Yellow Pages: Who's Who

Postby NSG Senate Administrators » Sun Feb 11, 2018 3:29 pm

The NSG Senate
The Worst State of a Republic

〉 An Introduction

_________________________________________________________________________

Welcome to the NSG Senate. This is democracy at its worst.

In brief, we are a character-driven and dynamic government simulation roleplay where you will be a politician in the fictional Politically Dynamic nation of Galatea, where your actions and the actions of your fellow senators will shape the present and the future of the country, for the better or the worse. Will you choose to be a good and trustworthy representative or will you rise to power through backhanded maneuvers and shady deals? Will you be a crossbencher? A minister? Even a general?
Founded by Denecaep and maintained by chief admin Zurkerx and co-admins Maklohi Vai, Electrum, and The Miaphysite Church of Coptic Archism; our roleplay has existed in several iterations for the past several years, and we are the non-NS political RP.

Where do I get started? 〈
_________________________________________________________________________

First off, there's the Senate Lobby, which is our OOC thread where we discuss about everything related to the roleplay, and sometimes even things that aren't. When needed, it also doubles as a thread where we can roleplay character interactions and other events that are RPed to occur in the legislative building's lobby. Then, there's the Coffee Shop, is where we propose bills for peer scrutiny and have lively debates on them. The third and arguably most important thread is the Senate Chamber, where we debate bills right before they come to a vote, and cast our ballots to decide whether a bill passes or fails. The fourth is the National Database and the thread you are currently in, where you create a profile for your in-game characters, places, or organizations and where you'll be bombarded with questions ranging from where you stand on the issues to your pet cat's name. And last but not least, Daily Life in Galatea, where all roleplay that does not happen in the legislative building goes, whether it be a bus ride, a television broadcast or a neo-fascist terrorist attack.

Niccolo Fallaci - Free Democratic Party
Image

Account Name: Roosevetania
Occupation: Senator

Party Position(s):
Founder

Positions in Government:
None

Constituency: N/A
Political Ideology: Radical Centrism, Liberalism, Classical Liberalism

Family: Father, Tomaso (deceased); Mother, Aglaia; Younger Brother, Kyriakos;
Background: Born in 1967, Niccolo Fallaci was raised in suburban Coros. His family was middle-class, and they weren't especially rich, though he had a relatively comfortable childhood. Niccolo's father was of Italian heritage, but his mother's side was Greek. This resulted in Niccolo getting an Italian last name (his father's) and a Greek first name. He had one sibling, a younger brother. Niccolo's father was a lawyer, his mother a schoolteacher. His family, especially his father, was active in the resistance against the junta. His father was arrested multiple times, and was once badly beaten by the police. He has always had a keen interest in politics, and wished for Galatean democracy since he was a teenager. He studied hard, and now speaks five languages: Galatean, Greek, Italian, Esperanto, and English.

When Niccolo turned 18 in 1985, he received a scholarship to the University of Coros, earning a degree in political science and studying law. While in college, he came out as gay, having been a strong supporter of LGBT+ rights ever since. After graduating in 1989, he moved into Coros from the suburbs and became a community organizer and civil rights lawyer. He participated in pro-democracy protests, under both the junta and 1994 Triumvirate. Niccolo ran for and served on the Coros City Council from 2004-2018, always an advocate for democracy though having to tread lightly as a public figure. After Galatea was freed in 2018, he resigned from the City Council, running for and winning a seat in the newly formed Senate.

Account Name: Galendia
Occupation: Senator

Party Position(s):
Senator

Positions in Government:
None

Constituency: N/A
Political Ideology: Social Democracy

Family: Father, Augusto; Mother, Aurelia; Older Brother, Neros; Older Brother, Anton.
Background: Marinos Antonis was born in 1977 in Coros to a wealthy family. His father worked as a Civil Servant until the Junta took control, where Augusto became an entrepreneur. His mother, on the other hand, stayed as a nurse and was the one to educate Marinos as a child before reaching private schools around Coros. Antonis had great grades as a kid and would go onto the University of Coros studying politics.

Antonis would pass University, however, according to a recent interview, Marinos said that he hated his time there and it was rather full of propaganda and bland. Marinos would help his father as an entrepreneur while he still campaigned for democracy and freedoms on the side. By the time the Junta and the triumvirate ended, Marinos had campaigned and successfully got elected to the City Council of Coros. However, even then, Marinos said that he disliked his time there. He was apart of the few people that still campaigned for more democracy in Galatea, and in 2018 he ran and got elected to the new Senate. Hopefully, Marinos will like this.

Occupation: Senator

Party Position(s):
Member

Positions in Government:
None

Constituency: N/A
Political Ideology: Classical Liberalism, Libertarianism, Federalism

Family: Father, Guido; Mother, Petroula (deceased);
Background: Born and raised in Sicily since 1970, Guglielmo Arrighetti was raised in the countryside of Sicily on a family-owned farm and vineyard. His family was affluent enough that he had a relatively comfortable childhood. Guglielmo's grandfather fought alongside fascist Italian forces during the Invasion of Sicily, but turned against his officer on American promises of amnesty and land following the war, an offer that was impossible to refuse. Following the War, his family settled down for a fair amount of time, the land that was promised by the Americans was given and brought considerable wealth to the family. His family, especially his father, was active in the resistance against the junta after moving to Galatea. His father was arrested multiple times, and was once badly beaten by the police. He has always had a keen interest in politics, and observed the situation in Galatea closely since he was a teenager, intrigued at what the end result would be. He studied hard in the later years of his youth, mastering Galatean, German, and English over the years.

In 1988, Guglielmo departed for Germany on a scholarship to the University of Frankfurt, earning a degree in International Relations followed by Law. While in college, his political beliefs developed further, seeing the success of decentralized federal governments such as in the United States and in Germany. After graduating in 1996, he moved to Galatea, serving briefly as a public defender before participating in the pro-democracy protests during the 1994 Triumvirate. Guglielmo ran for Coros City Council from 2004 but failed, taking a job at a local think tank instead as their legal consultant. After Galatea was freed in 2018, he returned to politics, running for and winning a seat in the newly formed Senate.

Image

Account Name: Crylante
Occupation: Senator

Party Position(s):
Senator

Positions in Government:
None

Constituency: N/A
Political Ideology: Anti-establishment, green politics, workplace democracy

Family: Artemis Argyris (mother)
Background: Andreios was born in 1994 in a working-class district of Coros to parents Odysseus and Artemis Argyris. His early life was relatively uneventful, although when he was one the dictator of Galatea died and was replaced by a Triumvirate of generals. His parents were opposed to the dictatorship of the Triumvirate, and wished for democracy to come to Galatea, but they were silent in their opposition for fear of being found out.

When Andreios was nine, however, his father was killed in an accident at work; him and his mother were left alone. She raised him to think critically, to not accept the status quo, and to oppose the government. He would often get in trouble at school for making comments deemed unpatriotic towards the government; yet he was allowed to continue in his opposition with little real consequences.

He managed to pass secondary education with flying colours, and was offered a place at the University of Coros. He took it, yet was disappointed to find yet more propaganda and lies from the courses. However, he found many like-minded individuals who also despised the lack of democracy, and during their final year they organised a pro-democracy protest. The protest subsequently was met by a violent suppression, leading to Argyris and his mother fleeing the country for Slovenia for fear of action. Argyris was able to complete his degree there, yet returned in 2017 to oppose the government and campaign for democracy, being caught up in the anti-establishment Alliance for Change, advocating for workplace democracy, civil rights, especially LGBT rights, due to Argyris’s open identification as bisexual, and environmental sustainability and pacifism.

Any Questions from the Public to be answered?
  • Senator Gianopoulos, GBC News, what are your initial policy goals, and what hopes and worries do you have for the near future of Galatea?
    Thank you for the question dear sir. My initial policy goals are that we should be prepared for anything that might happen to destabilize us in the near future. As can be seen with how the junta first gained power, or what happened to our Mediterranean neighbour Cyprus, the stability of a nation can quickly deteriorate over just a short period of time. That's why I work for the immediate goal of accession to both the EU and NATO, strength in numbers so to speak.

    When it comes to hopes and worries for our nation, I hope that we will stand as a bastion of liberty in the area, with advanced civil and political rights, and a continued stable, democratic government. Sadly, it seems that we quite a few regressives in our senate at current time, who might work against this goal. I never wish to see us return to the dark times similar to during the military junta, and hope that most of my fellow senators will work with me to further our nation into prosperity.

This nation only partly represents my real life views. I don't support 100% tax rates obviously, for example.

Alexandra Malgrave - Independent
Image

Account Name: Malgrave
Occupation: Senator
Party Position(s):
Positions in Government:

Constituency: N/A
Political Ideology: Socialism
Family: Eleonora Malgrave (Mother), Nicolaos Malgrave (Father), Claudia Campo (Partner)
Background: Alexandra Malgrave was born in Coros, Galatea on the 21st of May 1980 to Nicolaos and Eleonora Malgrave. As Alexandra's grandparents were active members of the Galatean Communist Party her family initially struggled to make ends meet, and her father was arrested and harassed numerous times by the security services due to his familial connection to the former communist regime.

Despite this harassment, Nicolaoas Malgrave eventually managed to found a successful series of car workshops and eventually earned enough money to send Alexandra and Eleonora to the Greek mainland. Alexandra longed to return to her Galatean homeland, and work alongside her father and her friends to restore democracy and fight for justice, and after completing her mandatory education in Greece she planned to return to Galatea and form a pro-democracy activist group in the country.

At this point, her mother intervened and convinced Alexandra to continue her political education and work to increase crucial foreign support for the Pro-Democracy movement in Galatea. Instead of returning home Alexandra was accepted as a student of the LSE, obtaining a BSc in Government and Economics, and leading a campaign group that regularly protested outside of the Galatean embassy and highlighted human rights violations occurring inside the dictatorship. Alexandra returned to the Galatea when democracy was restored and was elected to the national legislature as an independent socialist.

Any Questions from the Public to be answered?
  • What would be your first priority in terms of issues? - I'd start by organising a campaign to bring supporters of the military dictatorship that committed crimes against the Galatean people to justice. After that I would focus on restructuring the national economy, for years the dictatorship exploited the people for their own personal gain. Galatea needs an economy that works for the many, not the few and I would establish an economy that provides quality employment to the people and supports fair local cooperative enterprises.
  • What is your first goal in terms of policy in the Senate? - I think we need to ensure that those that committed crimes on behalf of the military dictatorship and openly colluded with it are brought to justice. We cannot move forward as a society if someone that tortured Galatean citizens or profited off the misery of its citizens is allowed to walk freely and openly influence national and regional politics.

Account Name: Tectonix
Occupation: Senator

Party Position(s):
Member

Positions in Government:
Senator

Constituency: N/A
Political Ideology: Western progressive liberalism

Family: Maria Galatis (62) — Verona Galatis (33), Fernando Galatis (35)
Background: Giovanni Escalus Galatis was born on the 14th of March 1955 to a lower middle-class family in the small town of Simaria. His parents owned a small fishing business until the Junta began to expand their influence to the outer reaches of Galatean society — their storefront was nationalised, and were left unemployed. His natural knack for academia paid off when he was accepted into the prestigious Marymount International School in 1965. Deciding to pursue law, Galatis acquired a scholarship to the University of Milan, where he graduated summa cum laude with a Master's degree in International Law.

Galatis practiced law in Italy for a private firm up until 2003, where he was offered a well-paid job as a liaison for a major international media organisation. He actively participated in the pro-democracy protests and fought in court for those arbitrarily incarcerated at the time. When the triumvirate left the country, Galatis passed along his job to his deputy and ran for the newly-instituted Galatean Senate, where he serves today.

Constituency: NA
Political Ideology: Christian Democracy
Family:

Franco Scotti, son, 14
Marcello Scotti, son, 10
Styliani Scotti, daughter, 8
Natalia Scotti, daughter, 5
Amadeo Scotti, son, 4
Background: Cipriono Scotti was born to Lia Bellandi in 1975 in Sinagra. He was born into a single mother household, but Bellandi later married Nazario Scotti in 1981, and Cipriono adopted his new last name along with his mother. Cipriono would eventually have three younger siblings. His parents were wary of politics and instead pursued quite lives. They brought up Scotti as a practicing Catholic and he attended a private Catholic school, which his family was able to afford with their moderate income. Cipriono soon developed a strong affinity for Catholicism and was encouraged by his priest to go to seminary school. When Cipriono reached majority in 1993, he followed this advice and moved to a seminary in a nearby town. After three years of theological education, he dropped out of the seminary. After a year, the reasons for this became apparent when Cipriono married Mirella Scotti in 1997, when he was only 22 and she just 18. Cipriono led his family similar to his old, quiet and inconspicuous, but with more activity in his local parish. Soon the couple had many children and many mouths to feed, so they moved in with the senior Mr and Mrs Scotti, partially to assist them in their old age and also to reduce living and childcare expenses. Cipriono built connections in his community, and on the advent of democracy in Galatea the community decided to send Cipriono: a man of integrity and faith.

On the EU;
"
"Thank you sir - I speak in agreement with my party when I say that membership for the European Union would be a net positive, and I support it. I am skeptical, however, of many EU rules and regulations, and in the event we join, we should negotiate with the EU to ensure that Galatea has a degree of sovereignty while reaping the benefits of membership overall."

Positions in Government:
Senator

Constituency: N/A
Political Ideology: Conservatism, Constitutional Monarchism, Fiscal Conservatism, Nationalism

Family:Selene Iolanthe (wife), Two Children
Background: Born in 1971, Constantine Iolanthe grew up in rural Galatea. His area gave support to the Junta finding their stable leadership better than the previous governments. His parents were able, with the help of scholarships, to send Constantine to study in America at the University of North Carolina State. He would spend four years there earning BAs in Political science and History. After his fours years of college, Constantine returned home and immediately joined the military.

Constantine would spend his life up to 2016 as part of the Galatean Army, including when he meet his wife, reaching the rank of warrant officer. However, a king or queen provides a point of national unity and stability to the nation. One need look no further than Great Britain where the royal family provides a point of unity for British People. Our country is transitioning from a Junta to a democracy and a rallying figure is needed to hold the people together in this time of uncertainty. The House of Glücksburg ruled over this island in the time of our ancestors and their bloodline can serve as that rallying figure."
