“Turn back, turn back, thou pretty bride,
Within this house thou must not abide.
For here do evil things betide.”
― Jacob Grimm

If you want me to tell you that the world is all sunshine and rainbows, that people are all you have to worry about, that there isn't anything that goes bump in the night, then you should stop listening. Now. You know that feeling when you know you're all alone at night, but there is that little, tiny, minuscule shred of primordial fear that violently whispers: "There's something out there"? Well, I hunt those things. My entire family does, actually, going way back to my several-times-over great grandfather. We hunt the things that go bump in the night, and we're damn good at it. We're what monsters check the closet for before sliding under the covers at night.

If you knew all the things that slither and crawl on the underbelly of the world, you'd never sleep another night in your life. Don't worry though, My family will take care of it.

"Monsters" have been here a long time. Some stalked our ancestors while we were still trying the whole live-in-caves-thing. Others came from us sticking our noses where they didn't belong. For most of human history, we stayed afraid of the "unknown". The woods were just crawling with goblins and ghouls. That was, of course, until the Grimms rocked up on the scene. Two brothers, Wilhelm and Jacob Grimm, the latter being my ancestor, decided to take the fight to the freaks directly. They traveled all over Germany and Europe going toe-to-toe with creatures born straight out of nightmares. They even wrote some of the stories down and published them after some healthy doses of sanitization. In one of their many exploits, they came across a coven of witches that they managed to dispatch without much difficulty, but not before being afflicted with a blood curse. The Curse didn't turn out exactly like the witches intended...

Then things got even worse for monsters when my great-grandfather came to the United States. Decades of German resourcefulness and ingenuity mixed with American brawn and monsters everywhere just slightly pissed themselves. My family continued the Grimm legacy, passing down our knowledge of the supernatural, and the Grimm Curse. Most of the members of my family were sent to an early grave, but my father stayed alive long enough to see me and my siblings, and a few of my cousins, grow old enough to take up the mantle of Grimm.

Mine is, The Family Grimm.

Hello! I'm the Cyberiad, and I will by your OP! This has drawn a lot of inspiration from shows like Supernatural and Grimm and will be focused on our characters being siblings of the Grimm family cursed(or blessed) with supernatural powers and knowledge all the better to kick the ass of any boogie man hiding in the closet. I am looking for a smaller group of players for this one to keep it to the size of a few brothers and sisters. I hope you like epic adventures and hunting malicious evil in the dark!

The Grimm family will have their main home/headquarters in a decently sized home a few miles north of Flagstaff, AZ, but will have several other safehouses including the place they just call "The Cabin". When each of them turned sixteen (which is when the curse manifests), their father took them up to the mountains of Tenessee to teach them about their new abilities. They keep a lot of dangerous things hidden in the small log cabin in the woods but spend most of their time in their Arizona home.

Respecting the wishes of your mother who died of cancer three years ago (sue me, I can't have your story be full of puppies and kittens), most of you tried to live a normal life instead of the dangerous life of a Grimm. You still helped out your old man from time to time but didn't live the life like he did. You are either probably working a low skill to a moderate job, or are close to graduating from a local college (your father refused to let you go too far away from home).

The Curse

The Curse that Wilhelm and Jacob Grimm were afflicted with marked them and their blood descendants for all eternity. Monsters are drawn to those of the Grimm bloodline. It takes either a lot of fear or self-control for a monster to refrain from attacking a Grimm on sight. But, the curse had some... beneficial side effects.

In the vicinity of a living monster, you grow extremely strong and agile, capable of outperforming Olympic athletes helps when you're dodging the claws of a werewolf. Your senes also sharpen, your sense of smell becomes comparable to a bloodhound, and your other senes also grow to superhuman levels.

You can sense the recent presence of monsters, and even track them to some degree.

All of this comes with downsides, though. You grow extremely tired after your powers are triggered, and you need to eat a lot to compensate for the spent calories. Other common side effects include migraines and nosebleeds. Your Grimm blood does give you a greater resistance to monster born poisons, toxins, and other creature powers. Vampire or werewolf bites won't necessarily turn you, but they can if they occur in rapid succession.

Most Grimms carry monster claws or other remains wrapped up in leather pouches so they can activate their powers at will (contact with supernatural remains triggers powers, while merely being close to them do not. If you are near a live monster, though, your powers will want to activate, but you can repress them, although not forever).

Rules
  1. My word is law
  2. Don't kill one another
  3. Respect your fellow RPers
  4. Don't metagame or goddmod
  5. General NS rules apply
  6. Don't go overboard with language, but I don't mind cursing for effect.

The Family Grimm

The Old Man
Image

Your loving and, albeit, very eccentric Father. Master Hunter, risk taker, and skilled in some basic magic. Tim was a hub for the extended Grimm Family, keeping tabs with cousins and uncles from all over America and the Old Country. He was an expert at rooting out malicious monsters, predicting their movements, and bringing an end to them.

He wasn't the best parent, but he did give it a good try; it was mostly Helen, his wife who was the more caring figure. After his wife died, Tim started to take more risks in his hunts, much to the dismay of his children.

Name: Cyrus Grimm
Appearence:
Image

Personality: Slightly arrogant and headstrong, Crus was always the fast-talking older brother who continually got his siblings into and out of trouble. He is resourceful but a bit bold and crass at times. He always puts family first, and wil lay waste to all of creation to keep them safe.

Despite his outward swagger, he is quite intelligent even if he doesn't have a great education.

Bio: Cyrus was the first one to turn sixteen, and so, he was the first one to be taken to "The Cabin", and the first one to be trained in the ways of the Grimm Family. As the firstborn son, he was given the Grimm Axe, the axe originally wielded by the Brothers Grimm after they brought it back from one of their escapades.

He dropped out of high school to help his Father go on hunting trips, which his mother never approved of. He became a pretty good Grimm, always at his father's side ready to kill the monsters. He was conflicted when his mother died; he didn't want to give up the life, but he also wanted to respect the wishes of his mom. Cyrus fell into some sort of limbo: he never got a proper job, but he still went on a trip from time to time when his dad "needed backup".

Age: 28
Gender: Male
Height: 6' 5"
Weight: 195 lbs
What does your Character Currenly do for a Living: Bum
Specialities: Melee combat

Likes: Hunting, Shooting, The Grimm Axe, explosions, women, food, etc
Dislikes: Gremlins, being burned, ghosts, and curses (except for the Grimm Curse).
Quirks: Likes a flair for the dramatic, Loves pineapples and pineapple flavored things.
Fears: Losing family members or getting them hurt, messing with Native American curses

Name: Noah Grimm
Appearence:
Image

Personality: While less arrogant than his brother, Noah certainly had stubbornness and foolhardiness ingrained in his very being, often butting heads over the best course of action when it came to getting into trouble, however this does not preventing him from valuing his family above all. Hesitant to trust those not related to him, he can be considered to have some difficulty integrating himself into a civilian social circle.
Bio: Being the second son to turn 16, the journey to the Cabin and learning the truth was significantly more difficult for him to digest than it had been for his other siblings, resulting in him becoming much more distant from his father and allying more with his mother, trying to keep himself out of the Grimm business as he felt there were more than enough of the Grimms to deal with. Instead, he attended high school and graduated with relatively good grades, but was unable to attend college, something that caused him to sink into a depression.

Seeing no other alternative, he began brief escapedes into the Grimm lifestyle as a means to keep himself distracted while job hunting, however the disapproval from his mother was the spark that made him quit and take up a career as a mechanic in Flagstaff. With his life starting to look on the brightside, it plunged quickly again when their mother died of cancer and, with her final wish, he found himself conflicted once again. Being an adult, he began to use what wages he earned on alcohol so as to forget the troubles of Grimm and his mother's death. With this, he splits his life between drinking, occupying a sobering cell in the town police station, and working cases.
Age: 27
Gender: Male
Height: 6'1
Weight: 190 lbs
What does your Character Currenly do for a Living: Labourer and part-time mechanic
Specialities: Both melee combat and ranged, he likes his options

Likes: Classic cars, Cider, History, Most non-vegetarian foods, good music, etc
Dislikes: Smart asses, overly-complicated monsters, confined spaces, overly dramatic family members, messing with the dead
Qirks: His left eye is always slightly closed and he tilts his head to to left when reading
Fears:Being Eaten

Name: Alexander Grimm
Appearence:
Image

Personality: Independent, pragmatic, and honest, he acts as the voice of reason and calm between his siblings, though not the one with the slight personality of lying. At the very least, he keeps himself as a honest man with pragmatism principle.

Bio:

The third son of the Grimm, as he was the third to be turned into "The Cabin" when he was 16. Never quite a fan of melee combat, he was instead very good at ranged combat, perhaps because he is more or less not quite willing to fight monsters head-on and stays with the principle of using pragmatism and ranged attack by the virtue of luring monsters when he had to fight them off. Despite the thriving career of monster-hunting he always felt he also has something to do and more than just monster-hunting, and after high school he entered police academy all under the objective of learning things through. But he was more or less in a strained relationship with his father as he diverted from their family's objective. The fact that he hates the Grimm's curses didn't help matters.

His mother's death fueled his choice of being a police officer and fixed the strain between him and his father, even if it is just a bit. Now, he worked as police officer and stationed not far from his father's home, using the law to finds information on anything supernatural to boost the Grimm's intelligence.

Age: 25
Gender: Male
Height: 183 cm
Weight: 69 kg
What does your Character Currenly do for a Living: Police officer.
Specialities: Ranged, proficient in the use of ranged weapons, both ancient (crossbow) and modern (handgun, assault rifle, shotgun).

Like:s Coffee, donuts, ranged weapons, being a police.
Dislikes: Ghosts, Grimm curse, and using his powers (as it drained him physically and he needs time to recovers)
Quirks: Usually have donuts whenever and wherever he goes. Trained himself physically.
Fears: Death, killing the wrong person.

Name: Solomon Grimm
Appearance: A rather strange sort would be the term used by most. long Dark red curly hair but with skin like bronze, he has a short stocky stature standing at only 5'0, Small dark brown/black eyes and a few other quirky features like his rather larger albeit flat lying ears, large jagged tooth filled mouth which is all kinds of messed up and once again a rather large both in width and length nose. Scars and occasional burns can be found due to the rather tough times he's been through along with his preferred line of work(manual labor). Overall a rather solid and tough looking individual built like a wrestler or maybe a boxer.
Personality: Cynical with melancholic elements, occasionally hot tempered.

Bio:
Born 20 years prior to a Joshua Grimm, brother of Timothy Grimm, and Maraya Grimm and named after an old child hood friend of the latter who passed. His childhood was oddly uneventful and simultaneously strange at the same time. He was a quiet boy never speaking until he turned the age of 5 leading his parents to hold him back a year hence he started school a bit late. If that wasn't enough Solomon had an odd desire to explore constantly whether his parents liked it or not and would during and after that time period wander off to see things bringing great fear unto them most of all his father who was constantly terrified of the things which stalked the night which he knew could potentially find his young son who would be largely defenseless in such a situation. These fears in a way would be eventually realized when at the age of 8 Solomon once again wandered into the woods for no real particular reason during the night. He couldn't sleep so that might have contributed to it. But rather than Solomon being the victim it was his parents who realizing he was gone went searching into the night to go find him. The police wouldn't help for they had admittedly grown tire of the two young parents constantly calling asking them for help finding their child whenever such things did occur. When young Solomon finally arrived back home in the morning having decided to sleep under the stars in the woods, he would find the house empty and sensing little wrong, despite the weird feeling in the back of his head, he decided to simply go on with his day and make his way to school when he finally arrived a few police officers who were located their quickly picked him up and spirited him to the principals officer where he would find out the horrifying news they had to tell. His parents were dead, they were killed in a mysterious accident while looking for him in the woods. They spared the young child the details including the fact that they were both found with their bodies severely mauled by something which they never could figure out what. They assumed wild dogs but they had their skepticism on that theory. Never the less the life of Solomon would change severely from that point onward and not necessarily for the better.

Having been rather close with his brother Timothy Grimm, the old man, would take in the young Solomon and bring him into the family. He did the best he could but he could only do so much being a bit absent and all that. This wasn't helped by the rather poor relationship the boy seemed to have with the matriarch of the family who seemed to almost resent the boys presence and the solidly developing hostile and anger that grew overtime leading to constant fights not only at home but at school. His grades were in a constant state of free fall, expulsions and suspensions became common place, he committed suicide nearly a dozen times between the ages of 10 and 12, and the outbursts of the boy Solomon grew worse ever still with the worst coming in the form of him stabbing a kid who insulted at school with a pen during church. At the age of 14 during a low points Solomon ran away and vowed never to return. Over the next 4 years he went through a sort of personal journey trying to find his way in life. Taking on odd jobs and living in the woods and on the streets all which would contribute to his gaining of skills that would prove useful later on. During this time he ended up facing up against a few monsters who seemed to be drawn to him. Having not known and been taught like his cousins on the nature of the curse this came to quite a shock to him forcing him to learn on the go. Due to said lack of training and experience and knowledge of how to defeat these things directly he admittedly had to become quite good at running and sneaking away, not the most glorious but it was prudent to his survival.

Never the less after about 4 years of this Solomon eventually started to have a rather strange feeling best described as loneliness to put it in the most simple terms. Seeking to find and potentially reconcile with what few family he had left Solomon made his way back "home" and found the old man. He learned of the wife's death and felt a bit sorry so to a degree committed himself to doing the best he could by the old man Timothy who had taken him in as a young boy. To get his life back on track He got his GED and worked his way into trade school and ultimately into an apprenticeship as a carpenter all while at the same learning from the old man timothy about his family and their legacy and being trained in what they were meant to be, monster hunters, with the old man doing his best to make up for the now young man's rather late start. As of now he still lives in the family house unlike some of his cousins due to a chronic lack of funds doing his best to juggle the competing demands of both of his life's as both in the "regular" world and supernatural.

Age: 20
Gender: Masculine Male
Height: 5'0
Weight: 200
What does your Character Currently do for a Living: Apprentice Carpenter
Specialties:
- Crafting
- Sneaking
- Tracking

Likes: Reading, Wood craft, eating(mostly savory), exercising
Dislikes: Heavily sugary foods(due to cavities), Talking to a great length, loud noises
Qirks: Despises blondes for some reason, redheads to a degree too(specifically female ones)
Fears: Spiders, swimming, wide open dark places

Name: Ginger ("G. G.") Grimm
Appearence:
Image
Tall and slender, red haired, fair skinned with freckles.

Personality: Secretive.

Bio: The youngest of the Grimm children and inheriting her red hair from her grandmother. Ginger, nicknamed "G.G.", was always curious about what was happening when her siblings turned sixteen and feeling more left out and for the longest amount of time. Still, for the most part G.G. tried to be obedient to her mother's wishes and tried to be 'normal'. Last year, when she turned 16, things changed as they had for her older siblings (in spite of her mother's wishes). At the cabin, G.G. learned about the 'family business' and the 'gifts' of their lineage, as well testing to discover what her strengths were.

Age: 17
Gender: female
Height: 5' 10"
Weight: 125 lbs.
What does your Character Currenly do for a Living: Student
Specialities: Dodging, Research, White Magic (curse removal, exorcism, healing, wards).

]Likes: cats, girlfriends, tea, works of Shakespeare and Copeland.
Dislikes: Black Magic, coffee, dogs, scary movies/television.
Qirks: believes found pennies are lucky for a day.
Fears: fear of never having a normal life.

Name: Milo Grimm
Appearance:
Image

Personality: Usually he's rather shy and reserved, but when he becomes passionate about something, he's not afraid to say exactly what is on his mind and can become very forceful in tone. Lately he's been gloomy and depressed much of the time, due to the issue with his girlfriend. When he is in a good mood, though, you can tell.

Bio: Milo was always the shier and more reserved member of the family. He had another side too, one that showed little fear and wasn't afraid to speak his mind, but it rarely showed itself. He'd write and draw things for his own amusement, go for walks by himself, but never seemed to have many close friends. The main exception was a girl named Jacqueline, who he met in middle school and became very close with, to the point that they considered each other boyfriend and girlfriend. Neither child's parents were aware of the relationship.

Things were not to remain simple, however. Jacqueline was not the human she seemed to be, but rather a vampire. She knew all about the family name 'Grimm', but had held on to a hope that it was a different family with the same name. She never did quite convince herself of this, though. In the end, she resolved to reveal her true nature to Milo and see how he reacted, but she never built up the courage to do so and eventually Milo's 16th birthday came about. They were meeting each other after school, but when they caught sight of each other that day Jacqueline suddenly felt an inexplicable rage and nearly attacked Milo, who likewise was feeling a strange sense of power. The two took one look at each other and managed to both run away.

So now they both know each other's secret. They don't see each other anymore, and fortunately they don't go to the same high school. They still keep in touch online though and still consider each other boyfriend and girlfriend. Neither child's parents are aware of the relationship, just like it has been from the start. Milo had never accepted the idea of the curse to begin with, and this event has made his argumentative side flare up more and more often, with him once proclaiming to his father that he'd find a way to rid himself of the curse if it was the last thing he did. He has outright refused to take part in the 'training' for the curse, no matter how much his father tries to reason with him or threaten him.

Milo is the twin brother of Ginger. The two don't always get along, but most of the time they're close friends. Milo has been thinking about telling Ginger of his problem, but isn't sure how she would react.

Age: 17
Gender: Male
Height: 5 foot 6
Weight: I'm not good at guessing how much someone would weigh. I'll say he's fairly thin, but not exactly in shape athletically.
What does your Character Currently do for a Living: Student
Specialties: Researching, moving quietly and quickly, being observant

Likes: Reading, writing and drawing things, learning about random bits of history, old music, antiques, researching the occult and supernatural (though he didn't really believe any of it before being told of the curse, and even now isn't sure what to believe), playing video games, The X-Files, taking walks alone or with his sister (or with Jacqueline, before the curse took effect), nice monsters (though he's only ever met one)
Dislikes: That horrible curse, violence, politics, too much schoolwork
Quirks: He's quite nerdy about random things, like history, old cars, and old tv shows. He has a few strange things in his room, like an old phonograph, a typewriter, and a certain poster. He also has a world map on his wall. He tries to draw comic strips, mostly starring an alter ego of himself, but isn't confident enough in his work to show anybody. He can be slightly OCD and tries to keep his room neat, but when he gets overwhelmed by homework and other stuff it can quickly start to look like Mulder's basement office in The X-Files.
Secretly, he wonders if someday he could become a vampire himself, if it meant the end of the curse and getting to spend his life with Jacqueline like they wanted.
Fears: Being forced to kill someone/something, growing up, something bad happening to Jacqueline, having to live with the curse for the rest of his life, sometimes even his father. He is afraid of dying, but he doesn't fear what comes after death quite as you would expect; the existence of the supernatural (ghosts in particular) have contributed to this.

Accepted! (And Timothy is their father, not another brother)

Of course. Since Cyrus is the first son, I took the choice of making Alexander the third so someone can takes the second position.

Questions:

Are all supernaturals enemies of the Grimms?

Is this something like the "Grimm" t.v. show?

Generally, yes, but there are always exceptions. The Grimm's will tolerate supernaturals who don't endanger humans.

I drew some inspiration from "Grimm" but it's more broad, I.E. not everything in necessary a wessen.

Well, if it ever does become active, I might join. No promises, though. I have pretty bad focus issues and get distracted from RPs pretty easily...

A small corner of the world in 1872. Set in the world of the video game 80 Days, with supernatural beings mixed in. Several factbooks need to be redone.
I'm socially awkward sometimes, and bad at keeping up with things due to life's hecticness, so I might not always be the best at roleplays etc.

Appearence:
Image
Tall and slender, red haired, fair skinned with freckles.

Last year, when she turned 16, things changed as they had for her older siblings (in spite of her mother's wishes). At the cabin, G.G. learned about the 'family business' and the 'gifts' of their lineage, as well testing to discover what her strengths were.

Dislikes: Black Magic, coffee, dogs, scary movies/television.

Well, I don't know how well the bio would work. Ginger would be perfectly normal until she was sixteen, so her mother wouldn't have any reason to send her to her father. Additionally, Timothy Grimm isn't the kind of man who would cheat on his wife. (She's only been dead for three years.)

Okay, I was thinking of John Winchester.

Will Edit.

Fine by me. What, we have "Dad", Alex and G.G.?

So, G.G. is still in High School. I suppose we might find out how many kids in the school are monsters?

Timothy and Alex can finally sit at the dinner and talk shop with the rest of the family.

Other family members taking a vacation?

Looking forward to this.
