“Turn back, turn back, thou pretty bride,
Within this house thou must not abide.
For here do evil things betide.”
― Jacob Grimm
If you want me to tell you that the world is all sunshine and rainbows, that people are all you have to worry about, that there isn't anything that goes bump in the night, then you should stop listening. Now. You know that feeling when you know you're all alone at night, but there is that little, tiny, minuscule shred of primordial fear that violently whispers: "There's something out there"? Well, I hunt those things. My entire family does, actually, going way back to my several-times-over great grandfather. We hunt the things that go bump in the night, and we're damn good at it. We're what monsters check the closet for before sliding under the covers at night.
If you knew all the things that slither and crawl on the underbelly of the world, you'd never sleep another night in your life. Don't worry though, My family will take care of it.
"Monsters" have been here a long time. Some stalked our ancestors while we were still trying the whole live-in-caves-thing. Others came from us sticking our noses where they didn't belong. For most of human history, we stayed afraid of the "unknown". The woods were just crawling with goblins and ghouls. That was, of course, until the Grimms rocked up on the scene. Two brothers, Wilhelm and Jacob Grimm, the latter being my ancestor, decided to take the fight to the freaks directly. They traveled all over Germany and Europe going toe-to-toe with creatures born straight out of nightmares. They even wrote some of the stories down and published them after some healthy doses of sanitization. In one of their many exploits, they came across a coven of witches that they managed to dispatch without much difficulty, but not before being afflicted with a blood curse. The Curse didn't turn out exactly like the witches intended...
Then things got even worse for monsters when my great-grandfather came to the United States. Decades of German resourcefulness and ingenuity mixed with American brawn and monsters everywhere just slightly pissed themselves. My family continued the Grimm legacy, passing down our knowledge of the supernatural, and the Grimm Curse. Most of the members of my family were sent to an early grave, but my father stayed alive long enough to see me and my siblings, and a few of my cousins, grow old enough to take up the mantle of Grimm.
Mine is, The Family Grimm.
Hello! I'm the Cyberiad, and I will by your OP! This has drawn a lot of inspiration from shows like Supernatural and Grimm and will be focused on our characters being siblings of the Grimm family cursed(or blessed) with supernatural powers and knowledge all the better to kick the ass of any boogie man hiding in the closet. I am looking for a smaller group of players for this one to keep it to the size of a few brothers and sisters. I hope you like epic adventures and hunting malicious evil in the dark!
The Grimm family will have their main home/headquarters in a decently sized home a few miles north of Flagstaff, AZ, but will have several other safehouses including the place they just call "The Cabin". When each of them turned sixteen (which is when the curse manifests), their father took them up to the mountains of Tenessee to teach them about their new abilities. They keep a lot of dangerous things hidden in the small log cabin in the woods but spend most of their time in their Arizona home.
Respecting the wishes of your mother who died of cancer three years ago (sue me, I can't have your story be full of puppies and kittens), most of you tried to live a normal life instead of the dangerous life of a Grimm. You still helped out your old man from time to time but didn't live the life like he did. You are either probably working a low skill to a moderate job, or are close to graduating from a local college (your father refused to let you go too far away from home).
The Curse
The Curse that Wilhelm and Jacob Grimm were afflicted with marked them and their blood descendants for all eternity. Monsters are drawn to those of the Grimm bloodline. It takes either a lot of fear or self-control for a monster to refrain from attacking a Grimm on sight. But, the curse had some... beneficial side effects.
In the vicinity of a living monster, you grow extremely strong and agile, capable of outperforming Olympic athletes helps when you're dodging the claws of a werewolf. Your senes also sharpen, your sense of smell becomes comparable to a bloodhound, and your other senes also grow to superhuman levels.
You can sense the recent presence of monsters, and even track them to some degree.
All of this comes with downsides, though. You grow extremely tired after your powers are triggered, and you need to eat a lot to compensate for the spent calories. Other common side effects include migraines and nosebleeds. Your Grimm blood does give you a greater resistance to monster born poisons, toxins, and other creature powers. Vampire or werewolf bites won't necessarily turn you, but they can if they occur in rapid succession.
Most Grimms carry monster claws or other remains wrapped up in leather pouches so they can activate their powers at will (contact with supernatural remains triggers powers, while merely being close to them do not. If you are near a live monster, though, your powers will want to activate, but you can repress them, although not forever).
