Legacy of the Awakening

Premise
There were many empires who dominated this world. Among them was a large Human empire that ruled for 600 years and enslaved other races. Rebellion, natural disaster, civil war and plague brought an end to it, but not without devastating results.
What followed were centuries of war and anarchy. Villages were raided, famine spread, people migrated with fear and lies took control.
It has been 1600 years since the "Great Awakening", an event where peace and order was restored by nations that rose up. Those nations, as well as other nations, grow up and gets stronger as technology adapts and society recovers from what happened before the Great Awakening.
In this world, players can craft their own nation, regardless of what path would be choosen and how history should be shaped.

The world of Alterra is comprised of many islands, seas, races and four continents: Tethys (eastern continent), Olympus (western continent), Zion (southern continent) and Midgard (northern continent). Tethys is a continent whose western part is covered in grassland with rocky shores, high mountains and woodland while the eastern part is steppe. Olympus is half-grassland, half-woodland and filled with some mountains. Midgard is a cold continent with woodland in south, taiga somewhere in the middle and snow in north. Zion is entirely desert and semi-ared. There are equally four oceans: The Gorgonic Ocean, the Tritonic Ocean, the Ladonic Ocean and the Pontic Ocean. Well-known seas, rivers and lakes includes the Athenian Lake, the Giza Pass, the Dread Sea and the Barren Pass. There are also two polar continents, yet they haven't been discovered and remained known as Asgard (North Pole) and Hades (South Pole).
History
Alterra came into existence by a deity or many deities. There exists legends and myths, but no one is sure which is true and accurate.
Around 750 BGA (Before Great Awakening), a small Human kingdom in Olympus rose victorious in a series of small wars against it's neighbours. It began conquering lands and enslaving those not of Human descent. The Terran Empire was born and based around the idea of racial supremacy. It's armies, strong, organized, merciless and experienced, slaughtered all foes of the state, ranging from tribes to petty states. It even settled down on western parts of Zion and Midgard. A senate controlled it to uphold law and order.
But it paid it's price 600 years later.
Civil wars between greedy leaders became common and claimed many lives. They even weakened the strong armies of the Terran Empire. Plague came and infected people which led to hysteria and immediate state intervention. Many lives were claimed and the infected were locked away. Famine soon terrorized poor villagers and their homes were abandoned when they either left or died out. Crops fell and cannibalism became common to the point that villagers had to be massacred by Terran soldiers who didn't tolerate cannibalistic behavior. Economy decreased and natural disaster was prevalent in Zion and Midgard, destroying many Terran colonies and making surviving colonists disappear without a trace.
Soon, rebellion by enslaved races rose up and crippled the Terran Empire hard. Among most rebelling slaves were Cobrans, Hulines and Lycans. Their anger towards their slavers were aggressive and filled with retribution. The Terran Empire couldn't do so much and fell around 100 BGA. What followed it's downfall were devastating centuries.
Villages who recovered were suddenly raided by bandits who had no mercy for the shocked and desperate villagers. Famine returned and made things even more worse than before. Cannibalism increased and people began fighting over food, even to the point they slain each other. People began flee to other parts of Alterra, settling down and building new homes. Lying bastards took control of settlements whose people lived in fear and got promises. Lies were strong back then and truth was long hidden.
100 years later, however, a few rising nations put a stop to the madness and restored peace, resulting in a change called the "Great Awakening". With this, freedom and safety returned, migrants heard and were relieved, truth seekers overthrew liers and society recovered. The following years saw more wars, progress, settlements and nations.
Between 450 PA and 1100 PA, technology advanced and society followed suit. Machinery came to make society easy to run it's business. The discovery of both steam and energy resource called "Vincium" split societies along technological lines. Some stayed primitive and some decided to advance technologically.
However, issues still remained: Famine is widespread among some villages, magicians are still persecuted, wars have become more brutal thanks to technology, extreme ideas remain popular among people, secret regimes are installed in some nations and rumors have got people paranoid about stuff.
The year is 1632 PA (Post-Awakening).
