Does your nation have a national postal service? If not, Why? Yes, the Federal Post.
Does your national postal service cover package shipping and courier services? Yes.
Are private companies allowed to compete for package delivery or courier services? Yes.
Approximately what is the cost of a stamp in your nation? About 5c.
Overall, is the postal industry thriving or dying in your nation? Dying.

What is your nation's policy on what can and cannot be sent through the mail? Dangerous goods (explosives, weapons, drugs (including legal drugs like alcohol, tobacco, and marijuana and prescription drugs), diseases) are not allowed to be sent via mail. Organic matter (plant matter, animal matter, or even human organs) are also not allowed to be sent.
What is your nation's policy on junk mail? Allowed, but there is a sort of "no delivery" list for people that don't want to receive junk mail, similar to a "do not call" list for telemarketers. It's forbidden to send junk mail to people on the list, even if you aren't a formal mail carrier. Sending junk mail to someone on the list carries a PR$500 fine (per incident) and a potential class action lawsuit if it's done by a big company.

Does your nation have a national postal service? Yes, the Decepticon Post Office.

Does your national postal service cover package shipping and courier services? Yes

Are private companies allowed to compete for package delivery or courier services? Yes - and for letters, too. If any of this was banned, people would just do it anyway as a matter of principle, but as a black market service. It would be un-Decepticon to respond otherwise.

Currently, most mail goes through some private service or another. People generally don't like the idea of letting the government read all of their mail so easily. Bulk mailers, however, couldn't care less how many Domestic Intelligence agents read their ads as long as their stuff gets delivered, so a lot of junk mail comes through the federal system.

Approximately what is the cost of a stamp in your nation? Federal: 3 Cubelets for a letter - flat rate. Anything that fits into a letter-sized envelope goes at this price. Private: Each service has its own rate, with 3 Cubelets being the average. Private services also tend to have their own definition of "letter-sized," which tends to be just a hair smaller than the federal standard in order to rip "oversized letter" fees out of people who used Federal Standard Letter envelopes.

Overall, is the postal industry thriving or dying in your nation? It's stable. However, it has never been a big industry since the internet and other forms of e-communication have been around as long as our nation. Mail is mostly used for packages and for sensitive information that the sender wants to make sure can't be hacked by remote snoops.

How much is the average mail carrier paid? The government pays between 500 and 1,000 Cubes per route per day, depending on the location, length, and hazard rating of the route. This is far too little to attract serious employees, so most federal mail delivery is done by bored rich people or those who want a cover story when they case potential robbery targets.

Private carriers pay a wide variety of wages depending on the company, its area of specialization (packages vs. letters), and where it operates. If you work for one of these, you can make anything from 1500 Cubes/day all the way to 100,000 Cubes per delivery. The latter, of course, requires delivering very dangerous things to very dangerous areas - and you typically can't get hired unless you have upgraded arms and armor as well as some sort of battlefield distinction. But hey...someone has to deliver things like WMDs to the syndicates, and if you're brave enough and meet the other requirements, it might as well be you!

Do they receive special insurance for on-the-job dangers like vicious dogs or weather-related accidents?
No. Nobody insures anybody on Cybertron - the losses for the company would be enormous. On the plus side, we have no dogs here, nor any bad weather. What we do have are routes where you'll have to fight off one or more would-be muggers every time you enter the area! For those routes, the compensation for the extra danger is that you get paid more for doing your job. It is assumed that a percentage of that extra pay will have to go to repairs.

What is your nation's policy on what can and cannot be sent through the mail? Government Postal Service: No explosives, and if you're sane, you won't try to mail any subversive materials. Private services: Most let you mail anything you want to, but there are extra fees for materials that are dangerous to their employees. Note that there are usually some federal agents embedded within their ranks, without the companies' permission, so it's best not to use them to distribute subversive materials either.

What is your nation's policy on junk mail? Feel free to analog-spam all you want! Bulk mail means bulk profits for our delivery services! *Someone eagerly hands you a price sheet* *You notice that there's actually no discount for bulk mail. All the Decepticon Post Office did was provide the total prices for certain large numbers of mail pieces - at the standard rates.*

Approximately what is the cost of a stamp in your nation? W$0.77
Overall, is the postal industry thriving or dying in your nation? Thriving.
How much is the average mail carrier paid? Do they receive special insurance for on-the-job dangers like vicious dogs or weather-related accidents? W$50,000 per year on average. Vicious dogs are banned by law, and weather-related accidents are rare due to our people's hardiness against our environmental conditions.
What is your nation's policy on what can and cannot be sent through the mail? Anything that can be legally owned and is of a sensible size can be sent by mail.
What is your nation's policy on junk mail? It's legal, as it's not the business of state to regulate what people can and can't send via mail beyond a certain point. However, continued use of junk mail on one person or organisation may result in harassment charges.

Are private companies allowed to compete for package delivery or courier services? They're all private
Approximately what is the cost of a stamp in your nation? 20 Yen, 1 Tsenyen for fast post and higher for packages
Overall, is the postal industry thriving or dying in your nation? The courier industry is thriving, as fewer and fewer people are willing to leave the house, and thus order stuff online to be delivered to them. Actual snail mail is so-so.
How much is the average mail carrier paid? Do they receive special insurance for on-the-job dangers like vicious dogs or weather-related accidents? Usually around 16,000 to 18,000 Tsenyens per year. No such insurance options exist at most companies.
What is your nation's policy on what can and cannot be sent through the mail? In most states weapons, bio-hazardous material explosives and anything flammable cannot be sent through the post. Some states also have laws against sending perishable foodstuffs through the post.
What is your nation's policy on junk mail? Citizens who don't want junk mail may purchase from their local post office a 'no junk mail' policy, which comes in the form of a sign that goes on their letter box, and is renewed once a year. If, after purchasing such a service, they still receive junk mail, they have legal grounds to sue the postal service provider.

Does your nation have a national postal service? If not, Why?

Sort-of.

While there is no government-sponsored service, Shalotte is home to a remarkably efficient, volunteer-led postal service, which has existed in some form or another for over 600 years. Members of each settlement - often farmers, or other individuals prone to travelling between settlements anyway, but sometimes people who volunteer specifically to carry mail - volunteer to deliver letters and small parcels from their home villages to nearby settlements, then collect mail intended for their own settlements and carry it back upon their return. Each settlement has a designated 'halfway house' where mail intended for more distant settlements is deposited, to be carried on the next leg of its journey by that settlement's volunteer on their next trip in that direction. Neighbouring volunteers hold regular meetings with each other to coordinate their activities.

Despite its informal and wholly voluntary nature, this service is considered to be a valuable community service which its volunteers take seriously, and most of the time mail is able to cross the entire archipelago via their network within the space of around a week.

Does your national postal service cover package shipping and courier services?

With most transportation in Shalotte being undertaken by foot, the volunteers can only accept small parcels that can be carried easily in a satchel. Larger deliveries must be arranged privately.

Are private companies allowed to compete for package delivery or courier services?

There is no law prohibiting anybody from doing so, but thus far no dedicated postage or courier services have been established barring a few niche exceptions.

The Domnaeni's Executors, famously, hand-deliver all of their (and the Domnaeni's personal) mail through their own mechanisms, for instance. The Gaeltyn maintains a small cadre of mail-runners for their own formal document deliveries, and some of the larger family businesses based in Alauna occasionally prefer to arrange private mail delivery rather than rely upon the volunteer service.

Approximately what is the cost of a stamp in your nation?

There are no postage stamps. The volunteer service is run free-of-charge.

Overall, is the postal industry thriving or dying in your nation?

As with all things in Shalotte, the volunteer postage service is stable. The volunteers estimate that the amount of mail they carry - in rural areas, anyway - has not appreciably changed in hundreds of years. Only in Alauna, the capital and home to the only telephone network in the country, has the use of mail decreased. The lack of internet means that mail is still necessary for formal documents and the like, however.

How much is the average mail carrier paid? Do they receive special insurance for on-the-job dangers like vicious dogs or weather-related accidents?

Shalotte's community post officers are volunteers, who arrange the service themselves. There is no insurance, but given the value of the service to local communities, any expenses they incur - or hazards they face - are quickly covered by residents.

What is your nation's policy on what can and cannot be sent through the mail?

There are no formal policies, though if one were to send something like poison through the service, one might expect to receive a visit from an Executor or a draér in the near future. Crimes are crimes regardless of how they are perpetrated.

What is your nation's policy on junk mail?

Junk mail hasn't become an issue in Shalotte yet. If one wishes to send a series of identical letters to every resident of a settlement, it would need to be negotiated with the volunteers beforehand.

Does your nation have a national postal service? If not, Why? Yes; the General Post Office is the national public postal service.
Does your national postal service cover package shipping and courier services? Yes.
Are private companies allowed to compete for package delivery or courier services? Yes, but the GPO has a monopoly in certain towns and cities.
Approximately what is the cost of a stamp in your nation? First class domestic letters may be posted for one penny. Second class domestic letters may be posted for one halfpenny.
Overall, is the postal industry thriving or dying in your nation? The postal industry is a thriving business in Great Nortend, and makes a sizeable profit annually.
How much is the average mail carrier paid? Do they receive special insurance for on-the-job dangers like vicious dogs or weather-related accidents? An average postman is paid around £300 per annum.
What is your nation's policy on what can and cannot be sent through the mail? As the postal service is a common carrier, it is obliged to carry most items. Hazardous or perishable goods such as knives, food or liquids may not be posted at a street posting box, and generally must be lodged over the counter. The GPO does not carry any poisonous or dangerous substances.
What is your nation's policy on junk mail? Unsolicited junk mail is not particularly widespread in Great Nortend. However, many people do subscribe to weekly or fortnightly catalogues.

Does your nation have a national postal service? If not, Why? The Gandoor National Mail Service is the national postal service of Gandoor. It was originally established in 1610 as the Gandoor Royal Post and was renamed to the Gandoor National Mail Service in 1904 with the establishment of the Democratic Republic.

Does your national postal service cover package shipping and courier services? Yes

Are private companies allowed to compete for package delivery or courier services? Yes

Approximately what is the cost of a stamp in your nation? 0.50 GDY (US$0.91)

Overall, is the postal industry thriving or dying in your nation? The postal industry in the Democratic Republic is thriving due to the continued growth and popularity of online shopping services in Gandoor.

How much is the average mail carrier paid? Do they receive special insurance for on-the-job dangers like vicious dogs or weather-related accidents? The average income of a letter carrier is 22,000 GDY (~US$39.8 thousand). There is no special insurance given for on-the-job dangers anymore due to all postal workers being covered by the Gandoorese National Health Insurance and the Gandoor National Mail Service already abiding by the government-mandated requirements for time off to recover from sickness or injuries.

What is your nation's policy on what can and cannot be sent through the mail? The following items are prohibited from being sent through any mail service in the Democratic Republic, including both the Gandoor National Mail Service and private parcel delivery services:
- Any illegal publications (any material containing the following content: child pornography, depictions of necrophilia, depictions of bestiality, animal cruelty [unless used for educational or informative purposes, such as a documentary about animal abuse or a news report about the subject; fictional depictions of animal cruelty is not illegal], instructions on how to produce any form of explosive)
- Weapons
- Chemicals (unless labelled)
- Live animals (exceptions granted for beneficial insects, birds weighing no more than 12 kilograms, live scorpions [only when sent for medical research or for the development of antivenom], any small, harmless cold-blooded animals excepting for snakes and turtles)
- Humans
- Medicine (unless it is prescription deliveries, in which case they would be labelled and identified)
- Waste products

What is your nation's policy on junk mail? Junk mail, defined under Gandoorese law as 'advertisements for products delivered via the postal service unsolicited', is illegal and senders of junk mail can face fines of up to 350,000 GDY (~US$633.6 thousand).
