Melbourne terror attack

Postby Gig em Aggies » Thu Dec 21, 2017 1:22 am

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/ca ... ar-BBH6hHJ

SYDNEY — Two men were arrested after the car in which they were travelling crashed into pedestrians on a busy Melbourne street Thursday, leaving up to 19 people injured, media reports said.

The motive of the incident was not clear immediately. Sky News reported police arrested the driver of the white Suzuki SUV that plowed into the crowd and another man who was in the vehicle with him.

Sky News said the driver was of Middle Eastern appearance and that he was wrestled to the ground and handcuffed after his vehicle crashed into a bollard by a cable car stop around 4:40 p.m.

Media reports said 13 people have been taken to hospitals, including a pre-school aged child in serious condition with head injuries.

Witnesses told Sky News the car ran a red light, speeded up and struck pedestrians on Flinders Street in the Melbourne central business district.

"As it (the car) approached this intersection ... it just mowed everybody down, people were flying everywhere," one witness who identified herself only as Sue told radio station 3AW.

Victorian state police said in a statement they had "saturated the ... area in the vicinity of Flinders, Elizabeth and Swanston streets to ensure community safety."

The area was busy with Christmas shoppers at the time of the incident.

This is obviously another vehicle ramming terror attack like the ones that happened in Nice, Belgium, and Germany. Not only that I think one or both of the suspects arrested were of middle eastern descent and adding onto that calls from Daesh to attack people on Christian holiday of Christmas. I wonder why they think this well stop people or whatever their goal is it obviously isn't working at all even if people are killed or injured the majority of people never bow out of fear. So what do y'all think?

MELBOURNE- Car rams into people- believed to be deliberate

http://amp.timeinc.net/time/5075204/mel ... -australia

The news has since been updated to 20 people injured and 14 hospitalised. The newest update says that the police beleived that it was deliberate. There are also unconfirmed reports of an explosion in Frankston, 25-30 kilometres away, which police beleive to be unrelated. Almost a year after a similar incident in Melbourne, a car crashed into pedestrians after running a red light and speeding. Two men were caught be the police and taken to custody. 20 people were injured and 14 people hospitalised, including a pre-schooler with head injuries. This incident is the fourth of its kind in Melbourne's recent history, and this happened just a year after a similar in Melbourne. This incident happened in one of the busiest intersections of Oceania's second most populace city, when everyone was out doing their Christmas shopping. Thoughts and prayers with the victims and their families, and I hope the rest of the state of Victoria has a Merry Christmas

"the Age" - An australian news site has photos of the 2 arrested. I've not heard of the site, so maybe a native can comment on their reliability.

On the other hand, an TV reporter on site has posted this although it isn't clear if that is related.

Nope. Witnesses said that they saw the white SUV deliberately speed up as people began crossing.

So, when are people going to finally realize enough is enough? Or is the west going to keep appeasing the extremists the same way we appeased Hitler?

Is it Better the DM aside from NS general feelings but from actual reliability and such?

The man was known for having mental illnesses and an addiction to meth. Naturally he was operating a vehicle (I assume he was doing so legally, as noone said otherwise. Terrorism or not, they're not sure, but they're pretty sure it was deliberately)

Let's not compare people to viruses, especially when your post is vague about just how many people would be "cleansed." That kind of language can get very inflammatory very quickly because of how it has historically been used in genocidal propaganda.

That sucks. Not sure what the quality of mental health care in Victoria is like but it's unfortunate that he managed to slip through the cracks.

Well Victoria is stuck with that shitty premier Daniel Andrews. Gladys Berajiklian is a shitty premier, but next to Daniel Andrews, she's a bloody brilliant politician. Under him, car jacking has become the norm, and events like this are too frequent. He's a disgrace, and I'm ashamed to say that I share a race with him

This is very unfortunate for those living in the area affected. It's doesn't seem to be a terrorist incident, just someone who managed to fall through the cracks of Australian mental healthcare.

The crime rate has skyrocketed under him, and he hasn't done anything about it. The fact that he was a drug addict, had a history of assult and mental illness, and was still out on the streets speaks for itself...
