1000 years ago, the 488th Explorator Fleet of the Segmentum Tempestus Machine Cult found the Grand Republic. The Republic itself was the third example of an advance Human faction but they had built their nation on the use of STCs. The Tech-pirests did whatever was needed to get the prescious knowledge but they were pushed back by the Republic's navy and soldiers.

To their dismay, they contacted Naval Command for assisstance and Battlefleet Invinctus was sent to crush the enemies of the Emperor. The Republic's fate was sealed, but through the twisted blessings of Choas or the manipulations of Eldar, the Republic managed to send colony ships with key STC componets to the stars in on a sojurn journey to better worlds.

Over the next millena, the colony ships made it to an unknown region that would become known as the Valitious Shroud. Each one develop itself independently from each other but they all became spacefaring again with only the Imperials and the Republic being cast as ancient stories or myth but the STCs being the only reliable source of information for their nations.

Now as they retake their first steps into the galaxy, old savors come to get debts settled, Chaos and corruption around every corner, greenskins looking for a fight, and virgin mysteries looking to be discovered. These humans will come to know struggle, pain, and maybe prosperity. But they will all know that there's only endless war in the stars.

Welcome to Warhammer 40K: Souls of the Shroud. This RP is a faction-mechanics one with each player being a human faction who are the mordern sucessors of the Grand Republic. Each one of you guys were guided either by Eldar or Chaos to the Valitious Shroud and managed to become nations in their own right. You are away from the Imperium, untouched by the Emperor and will make your own story in this sector of space.

Some of you will turn to Chaos, be plundered by greenskins, get overthrown, or wake up a Necron Tomb World but that's all part of the endless war of the dark galaxy that we live in.

Nation Name:
History:
Lineage:
RP Sample:
[/box]

Each nation starts off with a;
Capital World
a escort ship
a lineage
10 Raw Resources, 10 Supplies, 5 Morale, and 2 Tech to start off with

Now, about the lineages. The lineage is a special bonuses that your nation had with you when you left the Grand Republic. These comes in seven different ways and only one can be picked.
Navigatior Families: Your ancstors had a liniege of having powerful Navigator familes that helped your people through the Warp. Your nation has better chances on making through the Warp without the demonic incursions.
Martial Tradition: Your ancestors had been used to put boots on the ground on the Republic's interstellar campaigns. Your ground forces are better than normal.
Naval Traditions: Your ancestors were voidborn, there feet never touch planetary surface and have a culture that build their ships to last. Your naval forces are stronger than normal
Industrial Templates: Your ancestors were artisans and factory workers. Your colony ship carried adavce Industrial STCs that allows your nation to have better Industrial planets than normal.
Resource Gathers: Your ancestors were farmers, gathered, and average workers of the Republic. Your nation can produce more raw resources from barren and Agri-worlds
Spy Master's Archives: Your ancestors had some spymasters who worked with the Eldar and feared the invasion of the Imperium. With these Archives, your nation has a better chance in intelligence actions and events.
Strong Faith/Noticed by Chaos: Your ancestors are known for their strong faith in some god of their people or have been twisted by the taint of Chaos. Your nation has gather better morale/fervor than normal or has a better chance to embrace Chaos and become one with the Dark Gods that noticed you.

There are four types of resources to which you nation needs to keep in mind;

Raw Material: This is metals, minerals, and food. Produced by Barren and Agri worlds
Supplies: Refined materials used Military purposes, produced by Hive and Industrial worlds
Morale/Fervor: Second most rare resource to gather. This is the unity devoted to your nation and your beliefs, keeps away rebellion and Chaos unless you want that. Produced by Morale-centric worlds that you can make up( ie Shrineworlds, Pleasureworlds, Prison Colonies)
Tech: The hardest resources to accumulate. These are needed for high-tech units and naval ships. Is produced in small amounts by Industrial worlds but is mostly found via exploration.

Every resource comes from worlds. These worlds will take time to colonize and to build your buildings. Each planet is comes in different types as follows;

Barren: Lifeless planet that can be used for mining
Agri: Worlds full of green, used for farming
Industrial: barren worlds that have been singled out to be filled with factories on top of factories, bellowing smoke across the world that would make itself look like a small gas giant.
Hive: Same as forge but crammed with as many people as a you can with enough Judge Dredds that can say " I am the Law!"
Pleasure: Any planet that your nation desires to put buildings dedicated to lifting the spirits of the common before sending him to the meat grinder.

Exotic: These planets are ones that don't fit in the general specialization. Oddities in space that can't be find without truly looking. These come in many ways from Death Worlds, former Human settlements, primitive humans, Fuedal Worlds, even the dangerous Necron Tomb World.
Exotics can only be found through exploration rolls and random events.

Capital: These planets are the worlds that you start off with in the beginning. They'll give your nation a bit of everything you need to begin your story in the Shroud. They also are one of two planets that can build ships at.

Factions and faction relations:

Factions are the powers of the Shroud who our players will interact with. They respond by the actions of the players and events that can give you boons or problems. Your may see yourself being allied with a Craftworld or Dark Eldar fleet, or you may see your planets being besieged by Chaos as they defile your temples.

Orkz will always be Orkz, so work with them on your own discretion.

Factions that will be shown are;
Eldar
Dark Eldar
Chaos
Orkz
Necron

Chaos Mechanics:
Chaos is both a faction and a mechanic in of itself. Chaos will come in the way of events for nations who are too hedonistic, liberal, or its people are downtrodden. It can also be summoned by a nation on purpose. Those are hit by Chaos but survive will have their morale hit if they survive it and it can get worse if it isn't getting rid of. If Chaos in a nation goes on for too long, then bad things can happen. Warp Storms, revolts, even having one of your own planets being turned into a deamon world can happen.

For those who wish to embrace the Ruinous Powers, then they will become Chaos-aligned and can certain boons from either one of the Dark Gods or Chaos Undivided. Their morale is replaced Chaos corruption and have to keep up the sacrifices or bad things happen, not like it matters to the Dark Gods themselves.

Events and Turns:
Every turn will be rollover ever 1-3 days and each one will have an event. The events will be either randomized or reactionary based on the player's results. They will be rolled 1-10 depending on the events and player events. These can range from Warp Storms, Orkz, or caches of resources. Somethings I put in like the Necron Tomb World will be event chains that are rare to find, but fun nevertheless.

And finally battles:
Battles will be both ground and naval forces. There will be no genetic/cybernetic supersoldiers that can match a space marine and Battleships will be handed out as a rare event later on for those to get.

Ground units will be for both standard troops up to heavy tanks or Stormtrooper equivalent for now. Naval ships can go up to Heavy Cruiser class. Powerful ground units and naval ships need tech to build as all the awesome parts like Gellar Fields or Melta weaponry needs tech to be of use.

Battles will be decided by orders and units sent. Those will be factored in with orders and description of the order, the scenario and the type of attack. If someone is being hit by a rebellion and the enemy comes to attack, then it will be in the attacker's favor unless the rebellion comes at them.

As for now, I declare this Alpha Build open!!!

Application
Nation Name: Chartarus Inheridom/Inheridom of Chartarus (pronounced Char-tar-us) Banner(The white represents purity and loyalty, the grey represents ashes of the ancestors, the urn and wreath represent the prosperity that would only be possible through the ancestors struggle) Image
History: The Inheridum of Chartarus a star state comprising a single world crafted from the remains of the colonists whom had first fled so long ago during the "Great Burden" as it is called now. The Great Burden and the following age of "Great Silence" were pinnacle moments in the history of Chartarus. Chartarus is a continental world, with mixed climates, but it's history is not at welcoming. The Great Burden brought them to the new world but the "Great Silence" only cemented their current traditions and history. As the world began to finally establish itself from the early settlers a great plague ripped through the world, killing huge swathes of the populations, most of which were the original founders of the colony. They would be known, as with the ones that came and died after them, as the ancestors. This plague(which may have been Daemonic in origin) required the dead to be burned which eventually became a common practice on the planet, followed by the establishment of huge and sacred Mausoleums where great works of stone, marble, ash urns etc were done to preserve their legacy. This practice continues to this day and ancestor worship is almost fanatical and a large part of the society.

The living go to these holy places to find comfort and purpose, many of of these temples to the fallen are dedicated to certain branches of society, though this is not explicitly mandated. To disrespect the honor of the ancestors is considered extremely immoral as the ancestors, while human, are treated as fallen gods. Technology is vibrant as the planet has just begun it's stellar journey. The nation possess a similar to tech level to the other colonies that had escaped the wrath of the other powers. The government of the Inheridom is a Conservative Theocratic Republic with the Patriarch or Matriarch at it's head. Matters of the state are debated in the council chamber(whos members are called Hierarchics) with the head of state acting as a tie breaker should the event arise.

Law is carried out by a conservative moral police force known as the Eyes of Past. Morals of the nation, aside from ancestor worship value loyalty to family, freinds and nation, it also places an emphasis on being yourself as long as it would not bring shame upon your family and in general giving charity, be it through company, financial or otherwise. To kick a homeless person is a serious offense for example, but to kick a drug addict is not technically. Patience is also a tenent, as the will of the ancestors must always be sought out.

war is conducted by three basic branches: The Grand Armies of Chartarus(ground forces, all heavy vehicles such as tanks can be considered dreadnaughts due to the living remains that pilot them), The Grand Fleets of Chartarus(navy), The Children of the Burden(This force is made up of hardcore veterans and suicidal fanatics, this group also contains the most amount of Dreadnaught-esque forces, to continue their fight after death.) Chartarus forces employ weapons of extreme reliability/durability and simplicity, with a splash of decoration to the fallen ancestors and comrades or the nation.

Nation Name:The Pax Humanitanus
History:The Pax Humanitanus was originally known as the Fornax foundation which dedicated itself to collecting STCs and elevating Humanity back up to the level it was in the golden age of technology. When the war between the republic and the imperium broke out the Fornax foundation was aware that the imperium was most likely far larger than it previously seemed and so they prepared the exodus project which was intended to deliver the best and brightest of the foundation to the shroud where they could reforge Humanity into the technological powerhouse it was always meant to be. As the war dragged on the foundation was called on to produce new and deadly weapons against the Imperium and so funding had to be drawn away from the Exodus project. When the Battlefleet Invinctus arrived the Republic was in full retreat and the foundation was once again permitted to work on their project Exodus unfortunately it was too little too late and many believed that the project could not be completed however the leaders of the foundation were not ones who gave up easily as they had long known of the existence of the enigmatic Eldar who in exchange for some mysterious favour would provide the foundation with ability to complete their Exodus project.

The Exodus project managed to leave the Republic just before it's government surrendered to the Imperium and for many years the vast Ark ships of the project just floated through space searching for a habitable world. Eventually it was able to find a world that fit into it's idea of a habitable world and it's construction bots went down to construct colonies on the planet. When the scientists eventually awoke they saw that their new world was a frozen hinterland and each colony was extremely separated from one another. The scientists flooded into these habitat and founded their new state however soon communications broke down and the small colonies were isolated. After many years these colonies began to worship their own field of science, for example one colony may worship chemistry and praise the holy atom whereas in another colony they might worship physics and exalt electricity. As colonies began to rencounter one another viscous holy wars erupted threatening to destroy multiple colonies however out of these wars arose one colony who were to unite this world without a single drop of blood spilt in their name, these were the phycologists who knew exactly how to sieze control of the planet with no weapons more than shrewd political deals. With the world now united the ruling council of 7 declared the Pax Humanitanus and how it was the destiny of the Pax Humanitanus to lift Humanity back up to how it was in the golden age of technology. Some side notes on the history of the Pax Humanitanus is that they rigorously control the genetics of their population in fear of a mutant incursion, where the genetics can be fixed they will be however where they can not be fixed than their is no hope for them
John Collins
The past three months of Johns life had been beyond taxing in both terms of physical work and that of his mind which was attempting to grasp the situation that he was in. He was extremely confused by the fact that despite the fact that these people knew how to speak English whenever he mentioned anything vaguely modern to his fellow slaves they would look oddly at him and then walk away, even when he mentioned England they seemed to be confused. Another thing John found rather odd was that despite this clan migrating 7 times now ,which caused no end of annoyance for John, and he had still not seen any kind of modern technology whatsoever in fact the clan he was enslaved to appeared to not even have the expertise to construct a wheel. These concerns were cast out of his mind however as the sheer amount of work that this clan put upon him and his fellow slaves was mind boggling, from mining copper to washing their cloths, this clan truly did depend of it's slaves.

While all this was going on the slaves that served alongside John had begun to take an interest in his peculiar traditions such as his morning prayers and the fact that he would often call out to the slavers shouting about something called human rights. Eventually while they were working to mine some new copper for the tribesmen's spears a young man around the age of 18 who called himself Uragan came up to John asking about the strange words he often mutters to him every morning and about the strange phrases and words that he uses quite often and so late at night John began to tell him about the tales that he remembered from the bible and he told him of the world that he used to live Australia to be specific. Eventually more and more began to gather around him listening to his biblical tales due to the fact that the new rigorous campaigns of work that the leader of the clan had sapped away the faith of these people and now there was a gap that needed to be filled, at first may were quite confused by his tales of the messiah saying that why were they simply to believe that son of God would come to them eventually however they were soon persuaded by Johns tales of home which he admittedly did exaggerate the luxury and splendour of it. As his tales began to spread throughout the slave population of the clan , which was mainly aided by the zealous words of Urgan, more people showed up to his small tent(or rather pen) and began to pray with him, some even asked to be absolved of their sins which was met by Johns insistence that he was not in fact a priest and was therefore not allowed to absolve them of their sins however soon the sheer amount of people coming up to him asking for forgiveness lead him to take the duty upon himself in order to at least remove some of these people's suffering.

The chief of this clan was quickly becoming quite disturbed by the fact that the slaves had united under one faith, one belief and the slave peoples that served and worked for him now outnumbered the amount of free peoples throughout the clan, this lead him to make the decision to have John brought out in front of all the enslaved people and have him beaten, whipped, cut and finally had him tied up for three days to a large tree with no food or water. By the end of the first day John was beginning to question his faith, why would God bring him to this place, why would God allow him to experience such suffering? The chief also instructed that three of Johns followers would be brought out in the morning and afternoon of each day and were to be executed right in front of his eyes. The entire experience began to carve a scar in the mind of John Collins. On the end of the third day the same warrior in extravagant furs who had lead the hunting party that had first captured John came up to the tree that John had been strapped to with what John could swear was the same spear that he had wielded months prior. When the warrior finally reached the tree John looked up to the sky and muttered one final prayer before the inevitable doom that would flow from the tip of this warrior's spear.

The blow never came. Much to John's surprise and relief the man had fell to his knees and was crying out words that somehow combined the emotions of fear and adulation. John was able to make out some words that were similar to "Great prophet please forgive me for I have sinned against you and all that is holy" At this point John was pretty tempted to tell this man that he would be condemned to the depths of hell and that his soul was truly irredeemable however that would most likely mean that he would never be permitted to leave his confinement so he attempted to play the diplomat.

"God forgives you and absolves you of your sins" John now noticed how gravely his voice sounded but still his words had the intended effect as a look of joy and relief passed across the warriors face.

"Many blessings upon you prophet Collins, now I believe that you have suffered enough tethered to this tree" The warrior now kneeled down and begun to cut the ropes that had confined John with the copper tip of his spear. Now that he was finally free from both the confines of the ropes and that of slavery it was time to ask a few questions that had been boiling up inside him for the past few months.

"The lord thanks you for your service to the faith however I have a few questions about how this whole affair, first of all how fid you and your men manage to take me."

"Well prophet Collins we circled you upon horses and then I regrettably ordered my men to beat you." Was the warriors reply

"yes I remember that part but how were you able to take from Sidney, you know that place in Australia" John said with increasing frustration.

"Uhhh there is no place within the great steppes known as Sidney my prophet" 'so the great steppes that's where but still that didn't explain whey there's no kind of civilisation anywhere near him' these were Johns increasingly worried thoughts as he began to worry if he was even in his own time, luckily he was snapped out of these thoughts when the warrior said to him "Come we must return to the camp there are people who wish to meet you" and then the warrior began to run back to the camp a and John was reluctantly forced to follow.

Well, here comes Chaos!

Are we allowed to have pre-corrupted societies or not? Because I can go full Chaos with this or just pre-Chaos and have them become more and more depraved as the RP goes on.
Disclaimer: Nothing said here is the product of a rational mind.
So...apparently I'm a decent writer. Um...wait, what?
Relativity, nukes in space, nukes in atmosphere, LASERs, MASERs, kinetic weapons, missile and kinetic CIWS, impactors and centripital force.

And, of course, for anything at all, you can always go here.

Nation Name: the Dominions of the 2nd Republic (Otherwise Known as the Dominion or the 2nd Republic)
History:
The great exodus, the defining historical moment of what now is known as the Dominion. The republican fleet had long been crushed by endless waves of the Imperium's navy and world after world fell under their crushing war machine, no matter which weapon or tactic they could bring to bear. One could not muster a defence against the unyielding and unrelenting war machine of the Imperium. When the exedus occured, the few remaining fleets were added to the colonisation fleets, attempting to silently escape the roaming Imperial battlefleets. As the horde of colonisation ships left republic space, the ancestors of the Dominion were tasked to draw them away, to nuke all evidence of their effort, every spaceport and every shipyard that had any knowledge of the great exodus effort of the republic. Once their task was completed, they attempted to follow their charge into the Valitious Shroud, but once arrived, they found no trace of the exodus ships and they were left stranded in deep space, searching for years in the vain hope that atleast some survived the great voyage.

During their time in this void, legend says that another, mysterious spacefaring people gifted them the coordinates to a location in deep space, a void in between the stars of the valitious shroud. No records remain of what deal was made for such information, but when the remainder of the republican fleet, a mere shadow of its former self, reaches these coordinates, they found a score of exodus colony ships, floating silently in deep space. the engines had failed and the crew had died whilst attempting to divert as much power as they could to keep the hibernating colonists alive. Due to the timely intervention of this mysterious people, the fleet managed to secure and save these ships and the tens of thousands aboard, blisfully asleep, unaware of the silent death that had been so close. The fleet managed to repair the engines for one last voyage, to reach the coordinates of the nearest world that could sustain them.

After their arrival, they beached nearly all their ships, either in stable orbit or on land, to dismantle them for parts, engines and warmth. Of that once proud fleet, but a single ship remains, still bearing the ancient flag of the republic.

During the initial years of their landing on the their new homeworld, the naval officers continued their leadership of the colony, enforcing a strict military hierarchy in order to guide the colony through its difficult early years. As decades turned into centuries, this neccesary, strict military nature, turned into tradition. Public service, in the military or otherwise turned from neccesity into tradition and from tradition into culture.
Elected leaders, from simple town mayors to republic council members all boast a long and impressive military heritage, to prove to their people that they have the strength and capacity to lead them.

Now, with their new republic expanding heavily across their homeworld, a lack of easily accesible resource has become clear issue to the leadership of the new republic. so the descision to risk travel into deep space has been deemed acceptable. The legends of the ancient enemy and the scars they left behind still press heavily on the spirit of the 2nd Republic, so the need to expand, of a strong military, of a strong people that can withstand the frightening power of the Imperium is the primary force that drives the needs of the 2nd republic. They survived the great enemy once, they will do so again.

Nation Name: Commonwealth of Man
History: When the Grand Republic fell to the might of the Imperium of Man, they sent out many ships to colonize an area of space known as the Shroud in order to continue their legacy. One of these ships, the Hyacinth, made it to a lush, fertile moon orbiting a blue gas giant orbiting a blue star the colonists named Mana, and the moon Unity. The pioneers of that ship had to group together to fight off the dangerous predators that crawled across their new home, which induced a strong family bondage and martial sense in the colonists. Eventually, the planet was fully claimed after 1000 years of conquest, and the dictatorial Commonwealth is ready to reach for the stars once again, to take revenge on the Imperium and establish their own image of order. While they are xenophobic, they don't really care about exterminating every non-human sapient species they encounter.

Nation Name: The Callixus Ascendancy

History: There have always been the faithful, and where there are the faithful comes the Church. The Church of the Ascendant was one of the religions of the Grand Republic and began life innocuously enough. Elamex Callixus, the First Prophet, started the Church after she dreamed of four great voices whispering secrets of the universe to her. The voices continued to direct her throughout her life, creating her burgeoning Church until she was eventually martyred by the Grand Republic. By then, however, the Church was widespread enough that it was able to simply go underground and recover. Divided between the Four Aspects, the Church soon found itself lead by the Council of the Five, with the most senior devotees of each Aspect and an empty seat for the Prophet. This arrangement went on for hundreds of years, unceasing.

Then the Schism took place, the Aspects Royal and Flux turning against the Aspects Rage and Death. The Schism started as mere politics, but soon boiled over into warfare and brother killed sister in the streets. Even the intervention of the Grand Republic did little to unite the warring factions, and it appeared that the Church would fall to its own machinations. Eventually, however, Belorane Purilix emerged as the Second Prophet and forcibly reunited the four Aspects before creating a fifth Aspect to balance all sides: the Aspect Whole. And with this, the Church became whole once more.

The Third Prophet, Malrane Enephis, emerged due to the intervention of external forces. With the coming of the Imperium, Malrane lead the Church alongside the Republic itself, but to little avail. It was in this crucible of desperation that the Church started on the path to true damnation. In the hopes of turning the tide of this war, Malrane lead the Church into rites of the most hideous sort, offering up souls by the hundred in return for daemonic aid and unholy power. While this stalled the Imperium for a time, it could do no more than slow the hammer blow.

The Fourth Prophet, Enerhazi Azurane, was born of this desperation, and the need to flee. As news of Malrane's martyrdom in battle filtered into the Church proper, flight became more and more appealing. As the Church threatened to break apart and bolt in every direction at once, Azurane reigned them in. The first Prophet to be elevated upon the death of her predecessor, her very existence was a testament to the threat the Church - and the Republic - faced. And so, instead of facing the encroaching enemy head-on, Azurane instead opted to have the Church flee and start a new civilisation elsewhere.

Unfortunately, the Grand Republic was disinclined to let the known daemon-summoners onto their fleeing ships; reserving them instead for the uncorrupted military and industrial elite. And so the Church took the last step which would take the final step into eternal damnation: they staged and uprising on their home planet and used the populace as sacrifices to the Aspects Five to open a channel to the farthest stars. It took a month of chanting, screaming ritual, enough death to leave the survivors insane and the reality around the planet leaking Warp-stuff, but the Church finally opened their portal and ventured through to a new planet, from which to plot their revenge.

They named their planet Callixus, after the First Prophet, and it became an edifice to the Five Aspects and a representation of the soul of the Church itself. For the cities of Callixus appear, from above, to be glistening and elegant, yet once within the unwary visitor would discover their truly hellish nature: building-sized braziers burn eternal as citizens scurry too and fro in the flickering light of the warpflame. Soulbound machines feed on those unlucky enough to enter their path as they labour to construct yet more of their kind. In places the boundary between reality and immaterium is hazy, the screams of daemons robbing men of their sanity and leaving them collapsed to the floor, insensate to this world.

Likewise, many people seem have become adept at hiding the darkness within their souls. Gloves are a common item of clothing amongst all from the most elite priests to the lowliest slave, serving to hide disfigurations of the hand, and ornate masks serve the same purpose for the face. Great stock is put in overly-complex codes of honour amongst each social level in order to gloss over the appalling cruelty wrought against every other social level, and the illusion of unity amongst the Church is one of the greatest deceptions it has ever wrought.

And yet, for the first time in a thousand years, the Church has a Prophet once more: Madea Crycian, the Fifth Prophet. With the first Warp-capable vessel produced by Callixus finished, the Church speaks of great times to come. Times of blood and conquest and, most of all, deception...

Aww, no genestealers? I was hoping for some kind've genestealer-cult world, too far from any Hive fleet to attract the Tyranids, thus leaving a nation of mutated cultists. Anyway I could do this?

Said cult would have genestealers, due to being a genestealer cult. Small numbers however.

What lineage should I use?

Nation Name: Chartarus Inheridom/Inheridom of Chartarus (pronounced Char-tar-us) Banner(The white represents purity and loyalty, the grey represents ashes of the ancestors, the urn and wreath represent the prosperity that would only be possible through the ancestors struggle) (Image)
