OP: Anowa
Co-OP(s):

22nd June, 1940. Operation Sea Lion Commences.

Two weeks later, Nazi Germany forces The United Kingdom to capitulation. The remnant of their government flees to Canada across the Atlantic, as the Commonwealth pales at the revelation that Europe has been wholly subjugated.

The US remains officially neutral, as soldiers flee north, listed swiftly as AWOL as they enlist with the Canadian military. ANZAC and Raj troops arrive in Vancouver to bolster Canada's defenses in prep for a landing back in Britain. Meanwhile in North Africa: Polish, Czech, and French Government in Exile forces are being herded out of the Suez Canal to prep for the liberation of Europe.

Elsewhere, the war rages, the USSR is losing wholesale as Germany turns the full force of their might to the East, as Japan continues to subjugate the Orient. As subs patrol the Atlantic, preying on any unfortunate ship that cross their path. Yet there is hope.

The date is April 30th 1941. The War rages on, as the USSR is barely holding out in the Urals, China has become a Japanese puppet region, and Spain has joined the Axis.

Yet near Ireland, a collection of troops masses near their eastern seaboard... Operation: Overlord is about to commence.

This will be their finest hour.

Welcome to 'Their FInest Hour', an RP taking place from mid 1941 onwards exploring what the war might've turned out had Operation: Sea lion been successful.

In this RP you will app as the Platoon lead of a collection of soldiers from an allied nation of your choice, either in-exile or free, German Partisans and defectors will also be accepted. The goal is to lead your platoon in coordination with friendly units to retake Britain, and afterwards the rest of Europe.
At the start of WWII, the Allied Nations numbered relatively few, as a duo of British and French governments protesting Germany's invasion of Poland, they quickly grew as Germany started violently expanding. Now they number more exiled Governments than free ones, but together they remain.

PLATOON LEAD

Name: Jason MacDougall
Age: 40
Nationality: Canadian
Appearance 5'10 and nearing 175 pounds,
Ethnicity: English/Ashkenazi
Biography: Born in 1901 to a rancher and his recently immigrated wife, Jason always had a sense of patriotism and pride for the then colonial holding of Canada. So much so, that he dropped out of school to join the Canadian expeditionary force at 16. Although underaged, the armed forces were rather desperate for bodies at that point, so much to the dismay of his parents, he was shipped overseas.

His first taste of combat was a bit of a hope spot for the boy, having needed to clambor up the Hills of Vimy Ridge on that fateful weekend in April. His service in the expeditionary force continued until the end of the war, serving with distinction in the 3rd Ypres and the 2nd Somme. Being Awarded the Military Medal, and associated campaign medals for The Great War. As Jason returned to his home in Manitoba, he was met as a hero in the small town, his parents relieved of the actual appearance of their son, rather than the tensions of simply receiving a letter.

His reprieve from the war never came however, nightmares and flashbacks of gas and gunfire consistently woke the man in his sleep. With the sudden plunge into economical hardship also taking a toll on the man. Though not all was doom and gloom, he married an Irish immigrant, Nora Gallagher. They would be wed after a year of knowing one another, having a child in 1929.

In 1936, the Otter Commission's frantic attempt at preparation for another world war made the man once again heed the call of duty his nation wanted answered. Re-enlisting, he was one of the few veterans from the Great War to be granted the role of an officer. Eventually, his unit was mobilized, their goal to reinforce the UK against a possible German invasion, but by the time they got to the British Isles, their mission had been retasked to aiding in evacuation. He and his unit managed to escape the German offensive with a number of other units from the home isles. Regrouping across the Atlantic, waiting for the inevitable invasion of the British Isles, one of the many steps to liberate the Old World.

And now, he and his men wait in Eastern Ireland, waiting for just such an occasion.

Name: Lieutenant John Henry
Age: 42
Nationality: English
Appearance 6"1', hair kept short
Ethnicity: White
Biography: Born in 1899, John would be raised on a coastal farm in England, the youngest of four brothers. They would all pull their wight on the farm, until one by one the three brothers would eventually enlist to be sent to the western front. John would lie about his age, and serve in the trenches which littered Europe at 16. He would survive the war to end all wars by being exposed to mustard gas and living. Although there was no permanent damage, he did spend the months leading up to the an armistice that ended the conflict.

He was lucky, his oldest brother died in a trench run across No Man's Land, and his other brother lost his right leg, and his hearing. John would remain in the army due to the fact that it made more money to send to his family. After the war he was promoted to a sergeant, and by the time of WWII he was a lieutenant. Being evacuated with Churchill an Parliament when the German army invaded Britain, John would volunteer for airborne training and to join an airborne unit. After receiving his jump wings, he was commissioned as a lieutenant.

If anyone askes where we were Saturday at 14:30, we were at The Pub, understand?

-If it's stupid, but it works, it ain't stupid.
-No Combat Ready unit has ever passed inspection.
-No Inspection Ready unit has ever passed combat.

As with many of millions of men that fought in "The Great War", it changed him, curbing his recklessness. His major combat action came during the action of 2nd-8th of October, 1918, in the Argonne Forest. Nine Companies, including his own, would advance beyond friendly lines deep in to German territory, fighting one of the most harrowing and famous battles of the year.

With the War ending in November, he would return home. He lived a normal, quit life, often being employed as a game warden for the national park service as a way to get away from the cities of his youth. When Germany Blitzed Poland in 1939 he knew all to well were it was going, and soon went to reenlist, he was shocked to see the US not enter the war, he booked a one way ship to England and Joined the British army.

Having seen the Tank during the great war, and having kept a close eye on German Mechanized actions, volunteered for the British Armored Corps. Having still been in training when Operation Sea Lion happened, his unit made up the rear guard during the Evacuation, and suffered heavy casualties. Arriving in Canada soon after, he was promoted to Platoon commander, and given 3 fresh Churchill tanks and fresh crews for them.

Platoon Lead

Name: Markus van Linden
Age: 28
Nationality: Dutch
Appearance: Is 6' 1", is 179 lbs
Ethnicity: Dutch Caucasian
Biography:

Born in 1913 to an aristocrat Dutch family in the countryside of Rotterdam, he was raised in the midst of the First World War, learning how to shoot from his retired Dutch colonel father. He accustomed to using his father’s dummy rifle and camping in the forest surrounding the manor he lived in. He’d learn how to start fires and survive, using kitchen and pocket knives to carve shapes into wood and catch game with his father from time to time. He was also an educated lad, commuting into the town every so often to get education from scholars and tutors among the city side and urban population.

He dropped out of university to join the Dutch Army, becoming Lieutenant in due time. He did patrols around Amsterdam where he was stationed and guarded Queen Wilhelmina’s palace for some time.

That was until the Germans invaded. He was placed on the frontline near the north at Frisia, fighting in farmlands and mills. He fought valiantly at the Ems Basin, leading his forces at Groningen and deterring German soldiers there, holding the city and destroying German soldiers as good as he could when having a lack of soldiers as much as he. But that would not last. He battered yet more troops in Lake Markermeer, using the bridges and levies built there as fortification and cover, but their flank fell, and he started retreating and going into hiding to escape capture.

He skipped the evacuation at Dunkirk and instead he became one of the leaders the Dutch Resistance force soon thereafter, using guerrilla tactics and stealing German armament and killing German reinforcement. He eventually sabotaged a German cargo ship trying to resupply troops which was docked at the Hague, where he and his exiled platoon used it to escape from the Netherlands after being hunted and tracked down by German SS agents in the area. They soon arrived across the Channel, traveling through the rural Irish countryside along Waterford and Tipperary. They soon found friendly exiled Allied troops in the east, as they met up with forces there preparations for Operation: Overlord.

They joined the force there, training and drilling for long, hard weeks and are now assigned and coordinated to execute plans on the front.

Before I app, two things that might be interesting:

One, Frisia does not have hills. It's mostly farmland.
Two, Dutch naming convention specifies that the connective word in names 'van' is not capitalised when combined with a birth name.
The name's James. James Usari. Well, my name is not actually James Usari, so don't bother actually looking it up, but it'll do for now.

One, thank you to for this information
Two, I do not care enough to go back and edit, and seriously does that mean that it needs to be pointed out?
Three, I’m sorry to say that I find this correction utterly unnecessary

You don't have to go back and edit. I was just pointing out a bit or two of interesting information. Nothing against you.

Platoon Lead

Image

Name: 2nd. Lieutenant Harold James Scott
Age: 22
Nationality: Canadian
Appearance 2nd LT. Scott stands at an average 5' 7'', weighs 183 lbs, has brown eyes and short brown hair.
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Biography: Born on January 17th, 1919, Harold was the son of two Toronto citizens, his war veteran father Francis, a former lieutenant and by then a lawyer, and his stay-at-home mother Anna. He was the eldest of three children by two years over his little brother Mark and three over his sister Lilly, to whom he was seen as an upstanding role model. The three grew up relatively free of squalor and struggle in their lives, which they spent mostly schooling in some of the most prestigious schools in the region or otherwise with each other as a sort of close-knit unit which included two friends of theirs, a George Lowell (son of a semi-wealthy aristocrat and later a pilot during the war) and a Sophia Wallace, the latter of whom Harold later grew infatuated with in life. Together they spent life, growing up in relative peace and quiet in which they strengthened the bonds of their friendships.

However, at home the turmoils of war's aftermath came to haunt them in their father's rampant alcoholism and constant PTSD episodes, often leaving the household a mess of tears, violence, and pain. These episodes were a constant terror in the lives of the kids, leading to Mark to all but swear off war; conversely, Harold swore to follow family tradition (as it had been at that point, his father being third in a line of officers in service of Canada and the Commonwealth) and thus followed through with his promise when he was of age, in spite of his father's and brother's protests. In training, he proved himself a capable by-the-books leader, though he didn't particularly excel at anything in particular. He graduated with honors and was made a 2nd. Lieutenant in the Canadian Army when he was 20. Shortly after his graduation, he was granted leave home and married Sophia. Their time together would be short and seldom spent well, however, with the outbreak of WWII knocking on Canada's doorstep. Harold was sent off to fight for King and Country, serving for a time in France until the disastrous Battle of France forced him and his unit to flee the continent. His unit later partook in the defense of Great Britain, once again escaping from the chaos by the skin of their teeth all the way back to their Canadian homeland.

Name: Markus Van Linden
Age: 28
Nationality: Dutch
Appearance:

Ethnicity: Dutch/Flemish
Biography:

Born in 1913 to an aristocrat Dutch family in the countryside of Rotterdam, he was raised in the midst of the First World War, learning how to shoot from his retired Dutch colonel father. He accustomed to using his father’s dummy rifle and camping in the forest purified the manor.

He was placed on the frontline near the north at Frisia, fighting in deep hills and marshes. He fouht valiantly at the Ems Basin, leadmy his forces at Groningen and steering German soldiers there, holding the city and destroying German soldiers. But that would not last. He battered yet more troops in Lake Markemeer before retreating and going into hiding to escape capture.

He led the Dutch Resistance soon thereafter, using geurilla tactics and stealing German armament and killing German reinforcement. He eventually sabotaged a German cargo ship, where he and his exiled platoon used it to escape from the Netherlands after being hunted and tracked down by German SS agents. They soon arrived across the Channel, and met up with forces there preparations for Operation: Overlord in Ireland.

They joined the force there and are now assigned and coordinated to execute plans on the front.
