22nd June, 1940. Operation Sea Lion Commences.
Two weeks later, Nazi Germany forces The United Kingdom to capitulation. The remnant of their government flees to Canada across the Atlantic, as the Commonwealth pales at the revelation that Europe has been wholly subjugated.
The US remains officially neutral, as soldiers flee north, listed swiftly as AWOL as they enlist with the Canadian military. ANZAC and Raj troops arrive in Vancouver to bolster Canada's defenses in prep for a landing back in Britain. Meanwhile in North Africa: Polish, Czech, and French Government in Exile forces are being herded out of the Suez Canal to prep for the liberation of Europe.
Elsewhere, the war rages, the USSR is losing wholesale as Germany turns the full force of their might to the East, as Japan continues to subjugate the Orient. As subs patrol the Atlantic, preying on any unfortunate ship that cross their path. Yet there is hope.
The date is April 30th 1941. The War rages on, as the USSR is barely holding out in the Urals, China has become a Japanese puppet region, and Spain has joined the Axis.
Yet near Ireland, a collection of troops masses near their eastern seaboard... Operation: Overlord is about to commence.
This will be their finest hour.
Welcome to 'Their FInest Hour', an RP taking place from mid 1941 onwards exploring what the war might've turned out had Operation: Sea lion been successful.
In this RP you will app as the Platoon lead of a collection of soldiers from an allied nation of your choice, either in-exile or free, German Partisans and defectors will also be accepted. The goal is to lead your platoon in coordination with friendly units to retake Britain, and afterwards the rest of Europe.
At the start of WWII, the Allied Nations numbered relatively few, as a duo of British and French governments protesting Germany's invasion of Poland, they quickly grew as Germany started violently expanding. Now they number more exiled Governments than free ones, but together they remain.

PLATOON LEAD
Name: Jason MacDougall
Age: 40
Nationality: Canadian
Appearance 5'10 and nearing 175 pounds,
Ethnicity: English/Ashkenazi
Biography: Born in 1901 to a rancher and his recently immigrated wife, Jason always had a sense of patriotism and pride for the then colonial holding of Canada. So much so, that he dropped out of school to join the Canadian expeditionary force at 16. Although underaged, the armed forces were rather desperate for bodies at that point, so much to the dismay of his parents, he was shipped overseas.
His first taste of combat was a bit of a hope spot for the boy, having needed to clambor up the Hills of Vimy Ridge on that fateful weekend in April. His service in the expeditionary force continued until the end of the war, serving with distinction in the 3rd Ypres and the 2nd Somme. Being Awarded the Military Medal, and associated campaign medals for The Great War. As Jason returned to his home in Manitoba, he was met as a hero in the small town, his parents relieved of the actual appearance of their son, rather than the tensions of simply receiving a letter.
His reprieve from the war never came however, nightmares and flashbacks of gas and gunfire consistently woke the man in his sleep. With the sudden plunge into economical hardship also taking a toll on the man. Though not all was doom and gloom, he married an Irish immigrant, Nora Gallagher. They would be wed after a year of knowing one another, having a child in 1929.
In 1936, the Otter Commission's frantic attempt at preparation for another world war made the man once again heed the call of duty his nation wanted answered. Re-enlisting, he was one of the few veterans from the Great War to be granted the role of an officer. Eventually, his unit was mobilized, their goal to reinforce the UK against a possible German invasion, but by the time they got to the British Isles, their mission had been retasked to aiding in evacuation. He and his unit managed to escape the German offensive with a number of other units from the home isles. Regrouping across the Atlantic, waiting for the inevitable invasion of the British Isles, one of the many steps to liberate the Old World.
And now, he and his men wait in Eastern Ireland, waiting for just such an occasion.
