Welcome to the one and the only World Cup 79, hosted by Ceni and Drawkland! This is the roster thread for the World Cup. That being said, this thread should only be for rosters, nothing else. Please do not post anything other than rosters in this thread. RPs, general comments, and literally anything else should go in a thread meant for such posts. See links above to find the correct destination. Anything else will be treated as spam.
That being said and done, some may be asking, "What exactly do I put in a roster anyway?" Here's a list of things you can include in your roster. The bold items are the most important to a roster, but including any more of these can be helpful to anybody RPing about your team, or just wanting to know more about it.Obviously the most important element to your roster is the roster itself, a list of players on your national team who compete in the matches. In addition to their names and positions, you can include age, weight, height, what club they play for (and what nation it's in), and small blurbs about each player as well. Including bench players or reserve players in addition to your Starting XI can help when RPing for substitutions or injuries, if applicable.
- Starting 11 Players
- Bench Players
- Reserve Players
- Club team/age/addition information about players
- Manager/Coaches
- Team Formation
- Style Mod (see below)
- RP Permissions (see below)
- Stadium/Venue(s) (for home qualifying matches)
- Team Schedule
- Team kits/uniforms
- Team history
- Nation information
- Anything else you find relevant/useful!
Another big thing that most nations include in their rosters are management details. The team manager, various coaches, base formation, and style of play are all big parts of this. It's not uncommon to see some sort of graphic (usually made online) showing the starting formation of a team. The most important of these is the Style Mod. This is a number ranging between -5 and 5. This number is put into the scorinator along with your team and helps determine your style of play. -5 teams play very defensive games, scoring few goals but allowing few goals. +5 teams, however, do the opposite, scoring many but allowing many goals. You can use any number in between -5 and 5 to show this; negative numbers are primarily defensive while positive numbers are primarily offensive. 0, of course, is a neutral style, evenly offensive and defensive. Please make your style mod easy to see, so that the hosts and other RPers have an easier time finding it.
Some more detailed elements you can include are the team's schedule (which you can work out using the matchday schedule on the OP of the RP thread), the team's stadium or stadia that it plays home games in during qualifying matches, the kits or uniforms that a team wears on the pitch, or the history of the team in past competitions. You can also include some information about your nation, what type of government it has, major public figures, where it's located, or any other information that can help other RPers understand what your nation is like. And of course, any other information that you think could be relevant for RPing about your team can be included, just don't go overboard.
The second-most important part of your roster, behind the starting players and ahead of you style mod, is the RP Permissions Box. It's standard procedure that nations will RP their matches, and this requires mentioning the opposing teams in most cases. You may want more control over what other people RP about your nation, or you may not care. The Permissions Box is how you easily convey your wishes (as the first nation to RP a match generally decides how it happens). Please copy/paste this box onto your roster and select Yes/No for each line. You could also write something more detailed if you want to allow certain actions but not others within a single line.My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my goalscorers: Yes/No
Choose Scoring Events: Yes/No
Godmod Scoring Events: Yes/No
RP injuries to my players: Yes/No
Godmod injuries to my players: Yes/No
Hand out Yellow cards to my players: Yes/No
Hand out Red cards to my players: Yes/No
Godmod Other Events: Yes/No
"What do all these mean?" you may ask. Here's how each part applies to you and your opponent.
Choose my goalscorers is par for the course. This gives your opponent permission to decide which players on your team scored goals in the match. 95% of people will say yes to this, as it allows your opponents to easily RP the match. If you say no to this one, it basically makes your opponent unable to effectively RP the match as they can't directly reference any of your players when referring to the score or the game events (and at that point, what's the point of posting a roster at all?). Choose scoring events is a little more likely to be said no to. This allows an RPer to not only decide who scores the goals, but how they scored them (i.e. by headers, corner kicks, breakaways, free kicks, or any other way players score goals). This gives them more freedom to RP, but also allows them to do more with your characters, which you may not want. Godmod scoring events is an extension of this. Godmodding is considered more "unrealistic" RPing. In this case, it would give your opponent more freedom to do unlikely or zany scoring events with your match. Goalkeeper scores, kicks from 40 yards out, goalkeepers being struck by lightning during an incoming shot and being unable to defend, massive wind gusts blowing balls into the goal, and more are all possibilities if this permission is enabled. Obviously, more realistic RPers may not want to allow this, and that's okay.
RP injuries to my players is rather self-explanatory. This allows your opponent to RP your players getting injured during the match or directly outside of it. This is more likely to be disallowed. Most players specify what kind of injuries allowed and how long they should last. You can also ask that you get the final say on the severity of injuries, to make sure that your players can continue to play in the tournament or not. Godmod injuries to my players is the same deal, this includes events that seriously injure players, ending their participation in the tournament, their career, or even killing them. It can also include more normal injuries that just occurred in a weird way, but most nations decide to not allow this one.
Hand out Yellow/Red cards to my players is also what it says in the title. In order to allow realism, most players allow this to an extent, saying that opponents can only hand out a certain amount of cards per game or something similar. Of course, if you want more control over the discipline of you team, you can simply say no to make sure you don't get players sent off.
And finally, Godmod other events would give your opponent the opportunity to RP any other wild or unrealistic things to happen in your match, such as natural disasters, strange fan occurrences, non-match events which pertain to your team, or really anything else. More realistic RPers choose to not allow this, while others who don't mind much allow it. If you would be okay with some things but not others, you can always specify what you are and aren't okay with.
Again, including the RP Permissions Box is a big part of your roster, and helps other RPers immensely when RPing matches against your team. Please use it if you post a roster! Otherwise an RPer referring to your team may do something you don't like, but if you don't include the box, you can't do anything about it.
If you need help on where to start on making your roster, check out any of the examples on this thread by experienced users! There's no harm in using them as inspiration. However, if you want to directly copy the formatting that a nation used on their roster post, it'd be best to ask them first (via telegram or other means). Thanks and good luck in the tournament!
