There are as many as 100,000 active missing persons cases in the U.S. at any given time.

The majority of these cases are solved.

Some are not.

DEPARTMENT OF ANOMALOUS AFFAIRS

On the morning of July 18th, 2013, the town of Rachel, Nevada, ceased to exist. Twenty-four hours later, residents of Crystal Springs reported that the sun had simply not risen in the morning. An hour later, police in Amargosa Valley reported that the dead simply weren't staying dead. For a wide swathe of Southern Nevada, the strange and not-strange had become one and the same. Reality warped, distorting on a whim. The national guard, bolstered by reinforcements from abroad, could do little more than evacuate and contain. Even still, their efforts proved fruitless. Creatures began to appear in the affected zone, seemingly dumped into the world through the tears in reality that had become so commonplace. Aliens, mutants, spiders the size of cars, living houses. It seemed nothing was impossible in this strange new place that came to be known as the Nevada Containment Zone.

As the years passed, the Zone became an everyday part of life. Barely newsworthy, save for the occasional breach that brought news pundits together for inane discussion. The stories of endless refugee camps gave way to reports on the wonders that the Zone could produce. Technology, dumped into reality from other worlds, became a cornerstone of civilization. By 2015, Cancer had been eradicated in the developed world. By the end of the same year, NASA had unveiled plans to launch space missions using the new, anomalous technology. Yet, with the wonders came terrors, and for every cancer cure, there were other, less savory developments. It didn't take a genius to understand why the American military suddenly became bolstered with cybernetics and psionics programs.

Then, in late 2016, it all stopped.

New anomalies simply stopped forming. The Zone grew quiet, stagnant. The question rose of what could be done with the tainted land, and from that was borne the Nevada Reclamation Program. Headed by the United States Department of Anomalous Affairs, the program seeks to reclaim areas of the Zone for resettlement. Yet, there is a secondary goal. Thousands are still listed as missing, and many want answers, no matter how horrid they might be. Thus, the so-called "Closure Department" was born, to locate those still missing since the first incidents.

You have been selected for such a program.

    Welcome to the Zone, agent.

THE ZONE: RECLAMATION is a sequel to THE ZONE, a survival horror RP taking place in an area of distorted reality referred to as the "Containment Zone." RECLAMATION takes place roughly three years after the events of the original RP, in the year 2020. The world has changed immensely since the first RP, as anomalies begin to be used in everything from the military to daily life.

This is not a story about that.

This is the story of what happens after the apocalypse is cancelled.

Much of Nevada remains uninhabitable. While the United States Police Force and the National Guard patrol the borders of the Zone, the government has begun incursions to reclaim what was lost. The latest such incursion is now known as District Five, on the outskirts of the former city of Las Vegas. Inhabited by only about three hundred residents, the small town is the home base of the so-called "Closure Department." An informal group of former search and rescue, police, mercenaries and the like, the Closure Department exists to, as the name implies, find closure for those that went missing when the Zone was active. Even three years later, thousands are unaccounted for. Children, men, women, soldiers, even whole families disappeared in the Zone years prior.

And someone has to figure out what happened to them, whether they find a survivor or a corpse.

Yet, something is still not quite right in the Zone. Though the freakish eldritch creatures have retreated to the innermost affected region, highlighted in red, there are whiffs of a new conspiracy about. The Department of Anomalous Affairs, the nebulous intelligence agency founded to oversee the Reclamation Program, is an ever present force in the region. Some believe they may have less than savory motives in the Zone, and that, perhaps, there might be things that have gone missing in that place that they don't want found.

Name: Richard Deckard
Gender: Male
Age: 32
Appearance:
Equipment: Skills:
  • Combat Medic
  • Firsthand Zone Experience
Weaknesses:
  • Mediocre Aim
  • Emotionally Detached
  • Alcoholic
Personality:
Quiet, emotionally detached, and generally cynical.
Biography:
Born to an unassuming family in California, Richard lived an unremarkable life, attending college and eventually joining the Marines as a combat medic. He would go on to serve in the War in Afghanistan, mainly assisting with surgeries before returning home in January of 2013. He took up work as an EMT to fill the void, until July of the same year, when he would be ripped out of civilian life once more. He found himself deployed on the front lines in the first months of the Zone Incident, and his experience would forever change him. As the military was pushed further and further out of Nevada, Richard's life began to fall apart around him. HIs girlfriend was among the many claimed by "The Panic", committing suicide in the fear that the Zone was the end of the world. In the end, it wasn't, and after almost a year of non-stop fighting, Richard was honorably discharged after a near fatal gunshot wound from secessionists in the Containment Zone.

In the years since, he took up work once more as an EMT in California. It was unassuming work, but it filled the void that his former military service had once provided. Years passed, and he found himself yearning for the thrill once more. It was around this time that the Zone ceased producing new anomalies, and the Reclamation Program was initiated. While he was initially turned down, the DAA eventually honored his request to be part of the newly formed "Closure Department" to try and give some sort of closure to those who had lost loved ones to the Zone. Richard packed his things, leaving California for the Containment Zone once more.

Name: Lana Vidkun
Gender: Female
Age: 34
Appearance:
Equipment: Skills:
  • Excellent Marksman
  • Close Quarters Combat Skills
Weaknesses:
  • Terrible People Skills
  • Distrusting
Personality:
Good humored, though often described as a bit creepy or "off".
Biography:
Little is known of Lana's early history, only that she was born in Las Vegas, where she lived up until the Zone Incident. The majority of her extended family either disappeared or were killed in the ensuing fighting, leaving her alone in a refugee camp for the last six years. Subjected to all manner of testing, she was eventually released and lived in the surrounding area until the Mesquite Relocation Zone she had taken to was claimed by a Zone expansion event.
Her time since this is also unknown, though she claims she began working as a scavenger some time afterwards. In the years since the Zone activity ceased, she helped found the Closure Department, seeking to find what might have happened to her family and, by her own claim "find something to bury."

Name: David Kowalski
Gender: Male
Age: 22
Appearance: Exactly two meters in height and weighing nearly 600 pounds of metal and synthetic parts Kowalski is notably not human.
Equipment:
  • S&W Model 460XVR
  • Barret XM109
  • Necklace with a pendant of a titanium bird
Skills: Programming, vast amounts of trivial knowledge, analytical.
Weaknesses: Paranoid, overly cautious, more concerned with the safety of others over his own survival.
Personality: Sarcastic, mildly anti-social, and rather protective of those he considers friends, David is what one would call a guardian angel. Willing to go to any lengths to get someone out of trouble, he's the one you'd want in a bar fight or when rock climbing. He'll be at your side when others lay dead or flee in fear.
Biography: Born in Rural British Columbia in 1998, David was born into a relatively poor family, who had a start up electrical compay as a business. With an older brother, and a rather strained parentage, David's life was that of a low tier family. Bankruptcy was filed when he was four, and he has little memory of it. His parents were forced to pass off their business and sell their vehicles, leaving the family with a single van. Being a rotund child, he was routinely bullied at school, all the way until his growth spurt at twelve.

He spent a total of eight years in the local education system, before his father found a job as an electrician in Philedelphia. It was at this time that his parents willfully divorced, knowing that living with one another was a hassle enough. He, his brother, and mother moved south to the lower mainland. While his father moved to Philly. Despite knowing that it was an inevitability, it still affected David. His father left for months at a time before returning to visit, while his mother and brother got part time jobs.

Despite these set backs, David eventually gained scholarship for a Programming Degree, and arrived for the first semester of the year.

All was lain to waste when he was kidnapped and delivered to a research facility on the ocean floor some few thousand miles away from the nearest shoreline. For nearly a week he was down there with a number of others, experiments and scientific abortions of engineering and biology hunted them every step of the way, claiming the bodies of many. Including David.

Less than two days after awakening in the facility, David's biological corpse sloughed off. Nanomachines injected into him from the tests he was exposed to had reduced his skeletal system to an armature of machinery and mechanical servos. A girl he had taken a brotherly bonding to started growing and aging at an exponential rate. Over the course of seven days, David had become a fully robotic slab of polymer and metal, while the 11 year old girl had aged into a 80 year old geriatric, dying of natural causes before getting to see the sun again.

David made it out of the facility however. Managing to get to ground before eroding away more than the small amount of nanites still in him could repair, he made his way to The Nevada Zone, becoming a hermit. It was here he met one Boris Kuztentsov. The rest, as they say, is history.

Name: Nemo
Gender: 8 Sets of DNA merged into a single body. Take a guess.
Age: Roughly 26
Appearance: Roughly 6'6 and about 198 lbs, Nemo is a subject that would likely be on the front page of genealogy textbooks if the government at large found out about their condition. Pink hair, emerald green eyes, and a rather athletic and borderline amazonian form make her a standout from any average crowd.
Equipment:
  • Galil ACE 22N
  • Browning Hi-Power
  • TYR EPIC Plate carrier
  • MOPP suit
  • M50 Gas Mask
  • ALICE Pack
  • TALOS Exoskeleton
Skills: A general skill for survival and a seeming sixth sense on incoming threats, also has an unnatural constitution against sepsis and general sicknesses.
Weaknesses: Critically self-conscious, mentally broken, socially disconnected.
Personality: Nemo is a mentally broken being. Memories of eight separate individuals, along with all their bodies merging into one seamless form has left their living legacy with gaps and overlapping stint of life ranging back to childhood, all with their experiences and feeling ringing through their mind. Schizophrenic hallucinations, lines of code, mortar shells and gunfire, morning sickness, and the constricting feel of the womb closing around them are all feelings they have experiences, and dream of. As such, Nemo has a very harsh disconnect from reality at times, either unaware of reality forming around her or incapable of really comprehending what has happened in full. Becomes depressed if referred to as a male, though it's a usual occurrence with those who have yet to really know them.
Biography: Nemo is what one would call an indisputable victim of the zone. The memories of the past being ignored for simplicity's sake, Nemo simply appeared one day, four miles deep in the containment zone, laying naked, covered in amniotic fluid, and in the dirt of what seemed like a burned forest. They simply were for a moment. Until it all came flashing back, sharing a pack of beans with some people around a fire, the building internal heat, the feeling of every nerve and gland in their body firing off at once, nigh droning them in chemicals and nervous response. Four men and four women immediately became a single entity sharing everything from a mind to a soul.

As expected, Nemo became an amalgamation of humanity. genes from nearly every corner of the globe, chromosomes scattered and arrayed like a puzzle, and patches of DNA unsure of what exactly to do. The following days were painful, the figurative newborn morphing between anything much like a holocaust survivor to a literal blob of flesh and bone. Eventually their body solidified into a relatively feminine form, if a bit amazonian, pastel colored, and notably hermaphroditic.

Then the confused, pain filled, and concerned child of The Zone was encountered by a cheerful Slav and a brotherly robot. That was three years ago, and they still stick together like feathers to tar.

Name: Boris Kuznetsov
Gender: Male
Age: 34
Appearance: 5'11 and nearing 180 pounds, Boris has a good number of scars and odd patches of skin received over the course of nearly half a decade of wandering through anomalous areas, starting in Chernobyl's exclusion Zone, to Nevada's very own personal hell.
Equipment:
  • AK-101
  • PMM Makarov
  • GP-5 Gas Mask
  • Accordion
  • Anomalous Fork
Skills: Years of surviving in the Zone's wilderness.
Weaknesses: a bit too trusting of random people, more concerned with making money than with people's safety.
Personality: Jovial, casual, and generally hazardous, Boris is not really the person you'd want to be in a firefight with, but he's the guy you'd want around to keep up morale. Some say it's an equal trade off, most are unfortunately dead. Over the years he's mellowed a bit, but his playful and casual attitude around unfathomable dangers still remained.
Biography: Born in Pripyat, Ukraine on 26 April 1985, exactly one year before Reactor 4 exploded into a hail of much fuckery. One could say Boris was born an anomaly, seeing but his whole family but him died of radiation poisoning. He spent from his second to tenth birthday in a Kiev Orphanage, before being adopted by a family on December 25, 1990, exactly a year before the Soviet Union dissolved.

The rest of his life was rather slow, decent academics, an interest in nuclear physics and programming, typical Eastern Bloc stuff. In his interest he went on a trip to Chernobyl, and later Pripyat, it was here he felt something reaching out to him, something not entirely natural. But he thought it was just radiation sickness and got the fuck out before he died. But regardless of his immediate fears, he couldn't shake the feeling like he belonged in a place like that.

Eventually he did become a computer programmer, after attending university for some time, and took a job in Donetsk on 6 April 2013 at the age of 28... You can probably see a pattern by now. Boris would later use his programming skills to make really shitty IEDs and unreliable sentry guns for Pro-Ukraine militamembers, he didn't get paid much, but they were better than nothing. Eventually the Pro-Russians caught wind, and Boris was forced to flee the country for fear of being shot in the face by a Mafiya hitman, and he figured the ZONE couldn't be much worse than Chernobyl, and more cost effective, so he thought: "Pahui, why not?"

His short time in the zone consisted of getting shot at, getting screamed at, being chased by very unnerving Jehovah's witnesses and a myriad of other weird shit. He even had a very civil debate on the pros and cons of Communism with a sentient pile of scrap metal, and had a very long and heartfelt talk with a skeletal Merriweather Lewis about whether or not he was murdered or committed suicide. The most notable is when he touched a very shiny fork and the twelve other people in his little gang were immediately flayed alive by an anomaly. He kept the fork as a good luck charm.

For the next several years, he wandered the Zone, taking what he could, selling the rest, and making friends where he could. All who got in his way who wouldn't meet compromise died. Eventually he made a duo of lifelong companions, and when the Zone died down, he started looking for legitimate employment, coming into contact with the Closure Department as a guide for recovery teams foraying into the hazardous hell that was The Zone.

Name: David Kozmet
Gender: Male
Age: 34
Equipment:
Mini-14
2-7x32 variable magnification scope
Khaki Safari Jacket
Jeans
Boots
Surplus SCHMS Gas Mask
Skills:
•Survivslist
•Mathematician
Weaknesses:
•Physically weak
•Poor shot
Personality: Aloof, misanthropic tendencies, very much in his own head.
Biography: David grew up in a small, conservative Jewish family in Sacramento. He lived a fairly average life for a child in his position. He attended school and got fairly high marks especially in science and math. He later went to the University of the Pacific and got his bachelors degree in Mathmatic three years later, fast tracking with a packed schedule. He started off doing Data Analytics for Intel before the Zone incident occurred. During his time at Intel he'd grown depressed and was seeking new things to do to keep his mind off the emptiness of work. In 2009 he joined a group called the Sacramento Emergency Prepardness Group, a group of survivalist and prepers. He wasn't one for doomsdayism, he just felt the community was great and was a good replacement for the Jewish one he had started to drift away from.

During the initial stages of the Panic he quite his job and headed to Reno. His intent was to see what the hell had everyone in a panic. Subconsciously however he termed for something new, something to get him out of his bullshit 9-5 job and do something he felt worth doing. Or at the very least do something that lead him to the zone. The thought of finding himself and battling against forces outside his control. He bought a gun and some stuff for his hiking near the edge of the zone and headed out. He lived in the desert on northern Nevada for sometime using the skills the SEPG taught his during his time their. However he was eventual caught and arrested by military police who subsequently sent him back to California.

With the announcement of the Closure Department David applied and was accepted by the DAA for being part of the department due to his experiences in and around the zone during the peak of its activity.

Name: Jacob (Richard) Spencer
Gender: Male
Age: 33
Appearance: Short brown hair, black eyes, bushy beard. 5'11"
Equipment: (While he normally doesn't keep both long arm weapons on him, he normally keeps one stowed in his vehicle.)Skills: Marksmanship, perceptiveness, survival skills, firsthand Zone experience
Weaknesses: PTSD, former alcoholic, untrustworthy
Personality: Little is known of Jacob's past, but he displays signs of PTSD and doesn't easily trust others. He holds a cold exterior, and can be described as rough around the edges, but he still has a moral compass and shows some signs of being a good human being.
Biography: Little is known of Jacob Spencer, as most records pertaining to him were lost in the initial anomalous events. It is assumed that he is a native to Nevada, and that he gained a high school diploma before being hired by the Eurika county sheriff's department. He is believed to have received marksmanship training and basic CQB training during his service there. During the original containment he helped with evacuation and combating the anomalous entities that started to plague Eureka county.

Research into him reveals no social media accounts, job history, or anything more than a social security number and a Nevada State Driver's License for that matter. His records were believed to be destroyed when his sheriff's office became an animate building and was destroyed be US National Guard containment personnel. No other survivors from the Eureka County Sheriff's Officers remain alive today to refute this, and records from the Nevada DMV were also destroyed in the containment zone. According to federal records, he exists and is a human, but nothing more than debriefs and a few police reports can confirm his identity. However, due to his experience with the local terrain, as well as his experience as a deputy, he has been assigned to the newly formed Closure Department.

Skills:
  • Emily served six years within the South African military within the 1st South African Infantry Battalion and much later the 44th pathfinder platoon, and a further two years within the private military company Aethon international. As a result, she has extensive military training, is experience within a number of fields and She is skilled with firearms, being able to operate most conventional military firearms with at-least an intermediate level of proficiency.
  • With the reconnaissance specialization, she is a skilled tracker in that regard coming from her time in the pathfinders. She knows a number of combat tracking techniques in both rural and urban areas, along with the ability to deter would-be trackers through counter-tracking.
  • Has combat experience from her deployments in the Congo and Nevada whilst serving with the south african military, and in Afghanistan and Burkina Faso whilst in the employment in Aethon International.

Weaknesses:
  • Despite experiencing combat within the zone. She has fairly limited experience since her deployment was almost five years ago, and due to changing nature. Not everything is the same.
  • She has a certain level of volatility due to her attempts at inhabiting her emotions whilst on the job, which can result in some aggressive and occasions self destructive outbursts.
  • Harbors some guilt from action in the UN’s force intervention brigades deployment into the zone. Resulting in some social issues and problems with some vivid nightmares, often worsting some problems with depression and anxiety.
Personality:
Emily is a adaptable, efficient and friendly soldier who spent most of her young adult life in the service, and arguably exhibits the qualities required within the realm of her job as a close protection contractor. She is cordial with most people she meets and engages in lighthearted banter with those she works with, toting a somewhat of a morbid sense of humor. She’s been around the block and is very much a proactive personality who is not only industrious, but also highly alert. When in the field, she constantly plans ahead, evaluates her options and is particularly observant, often picking up on things that others may miss, whilst also having a good gut intuition which she doesn’t hesitate to follow when she feels the time is right. Having a good nose for sniffing out trouble, or bullshit. In the thick of it, She’s protective and empathetic of those who she considers her friend, and is more than willing to put her own life on the line for those around her, and would expect the same from them.

She has a good moral compass, but her time within the Congo and the Nevada zone frequently found the line between right and wrong blurred. With one occasion in particular leaving her with a fair amount of guilt, to which she attempts to inhibit herself emotionally to avoid any further problems. On occasions, she could frequently seems like she isn’t all there, often harbors a vacant stare and a seemingly withdrawn attitude in certain situations, with her drifting off into space or in which she’ll find herself intently focusing on something else. She has a certain reliance on habitual behavior and routine, a level of insecurity, and has difficulty exposing her vulnerability to others, fearing a loss of control. With her often trying to avoid showing any form of weakness.

The bottling of these issues has made her a particularly volatile person, which on a few occasions has resulted in explosively violent reactions that are aggressive and sometimes self destructive in nature, particularly when her sense of control is taken away. The collection of these issues has arguably a contributing factor in her difficulties maintaining intimate relationships with others and change back to civilian life.

Biography:
Emily Van Den Elzen was born on 13th of October 1992 in Pretoria, South Africa. Her family where Catholic Rhodesians farmers who left Zimbabwe during the 1990’s farm land reform. She was raised in a religious household during her early years along side two elder siblings, both male, and had what could be described as a fairly normal, if not competitive and male orientates household, with love sometimes being conditional. As a result, She was almost in constant competition with her bothers, particularly her older brother Robert, who was the golden boy of the family. The result made her into somewhat of a tomboy during her middle youth, adolescence and teenage period who constantly strove for recognition from her peers, but never quite made it. She performed average within academia but excelled within sports, particularly womans hockey, in which she played as an offensive striker.

Following her graduation from high-school, she entered a period of drifting from job to job and much later town to town, having little interest attending further into academics and feeling somewhat disenfranchised within her own family life. She eventually made what she considered the radical decision at the time of joining the south African armed forces during 2010. Following completion of basic training she served within the 1st South African Infantry Battalion during her stint from 2010 to 2012, before moving onto serving within 44 Pathfinder Platoon until 2016. Before the Nevada incident, Emily was actively deployed within the northern provinces of the Congo during the M23 rebellion, being a part of the MONUSCO’s force intervention brigade. During the conflict between the rebels and the pro-government forces, she witnessed a particularly brutal actions between the two sides, and eventually saw combat herself during august 2013 outside of Goma following the March 23’s movements failure to yield to the forty eight hour ultimatum to leave the city.

When the Nevada incident occurred in 2013, Emily, like many others in international community who sat posed seemingly a whole world away from the nation, where unsure how to react as their world views became collectively unhinged. Many people assumed that it was judgment day, end times, and it’d make sense that it’d start near what some considered to be the capital of decadence, Las Vegas. During the initial weeks, Mass suicides, riots and looting tore through south Africa and many other countries as people panicked as the international community scrambled to come up with solutions for the worlds largest ecological disaster.

but as time went on and as the event was contained, things quickly returned to some sort of sense of normality for everyone else, and it was somewhat forgotten about by those unaffected by it’s reach.

Life continued on for most outside the united states, but not for the members of the 44th pathfinders and Emily unfortunately. The united nations was quick to offer aid, which in turn meant military assistance as the united states government struggled to contain the insanity that had been produced by the disaster. She and many others found themselves deployed into Nevada as United nations force intervention brigade to help the united states contain the anomaly's and evacuate citizen displaced by the zone. While the UN had a fairly limited role but saw a number of deployment within the it’s time of intervention between 2013 and 2015. Emily’s unit in particular saw combat on a number of occasions with anomalous entities during its humanitarian aid mission. In one occasion unit came into contact with ████████, resulting in heavy casualties. One the situation had been adequately contained, the united nations began it’s wind down and withdrew the majority of its military support, taking a back seat in the disaster as the united states began taking full control of the situation.

Emily continued her service up until late 2016, in which she was received a honorable discharge from the service following the completion of her obligations and was sent her back into civilian life, something which she ultimately found difficult to readjust to. She found life within the civilian world difficult, particularly due to her lack of advanced education, undesirable skill set and social stigma surrounding those who had been to the zone. She often found herself unable to find work, and when she did, she ultimately couldn’t maintain it for long, moving on a stint from job to job. In addition to problems with nightmares and depression, It left her personal life was largely a shambles, with her having difficulty maintaining intimate relationships that lasted longer than a couple of months.

The turn around occurred in early 2017 when a friend offered her some work, being part of a security team in Afghanistan within Aethon International Solutions, a subsidiary of a South African arms company Sandline Systems. The company grown massively in the last decade with advancements in guidance systems and missile technology, helping which was speculated to be linked with the anomalous black market which shot up during the mid 2014. Her time within her first contract was largely spent providing training to local protection details and a more intimate close protection for clients which feared for their safety. The pay was excellent, and her skills made her desirable within the field, setting her up for re-employment. She continued to work with Aethon, mainly within the field of close protection in places like Afghanistan, Mexico and Burkina Faso. Mainly protecting corporate gigs, but sometimes aid-workers and political officials, relatively easy work. However, by late 2020, she jumped at the opportunity head back to the united states as part of the Nevada Reclamation Program.

Activity had died down within the region and the zone itself had stopped growing, and thousands of people who had been displaced and various private companies where lining up to reclaim what had been lost in the event almost six years prior. But while activity had died down, threats still existed. The DOD and some private companies began putting out defense contracts to whoever would be willing to put guys down in the zone. Aethon was one of the companies which won. Emily, along with a few others from the force intervention bridage where offered spots. Most declined, but Emily accepted, feeling a certain draw back to a nightmarish part of her life, perhaps for closure. Her previous experience quickly landed her right back into now seemingly ending living nightmare, starting with the protection of a search and rescue unit looking for lost souls.

Greetings my fellow anomalies and cultists.

Tagging for now. I'll have to hold off participating in the IC if it starts soon, since I'm going away for a few weeks soon and won't be able to write posts. I'll still try to get an app up, but this next week is busy so maybe not.

Equipment:
Remington Model 700
Smith & Wesson Model 5906
Tactical vest
Knife, small toolkit,
Skills: Investigation, marksmanship, criminologist.
Weaknesses: Slightly reckless, Stubborn.
Personality: Recklessness is in there, but
Biography:

Born in Toronto, Rena Harrison was destined to be a law enforcement officer, though she never expected that she would go beyond normal law enforcement duty. Born in a suburban family, Rena had a normal life, surprisingly. No major conflicts or something that pushed her to be more outward, but that wasn't the time yet. She went to high school and later, college, with average grades. Not high nor low, too. She graduated with a degree in Criminology and soon after she applied to RCMP. She eventually paved her career as a law enforcement officer. She was known for her good marksmanship scores, but her stubbornness and recklessness put her in a mixed reception within the RCMP.

But life wasn't that excited, too. RCMP is exciting, but she felt like she had more things to come, and that RCMP just wasn't enough, she felt she would get more than just normal law enforcement duty. That time, came when RCMP put a working relationship with Department of Anomalous Affairs, sort of sending in their police officers on duty with the Department to gained some experiences on future occurrences of The Zone. She was one of the officers selected to participated in the joint-activity. She gladly accepted, and surely believed her backgrounds would be helpful.

Whether or not that is true is unknown.

Name: Woodrow Belrose
Gender: Male
Age: 37
Appearance: 6'0, 167 lbs
Equipment:
  • HK 416
  • Browning Hi-Power
  • Combat Knife
  • Breaching Kit
  • Backpack
  • Enhanced Combat Helmet
  • NVGs
  • MSA Gas Mask
  • Plate Carrier w/ LIII plates
  • IFAK
Skills:
  • SCUBA
  • Fast Roping
  • CQB
  • Negotiation
  • HALO jumping
  • Ordnance Training
Weaknesses: Hasn’t been to the zone before, over-confident, competitive, pride
Personality: A competitive, high energy individual. He’s daring and possess a great deal of courage and will. He’s self confident and independant but works well with others.
Biography: Born in Shelburne, Vermont to an upper middle class family, Woodrow is the middle child of three to Mariana and Edward Belrose. His mother an accountant and his father a police officer. Described as a loud and rambunctious child, his competitive and driven nature started between competition with his friends and his older brother Adam. His older brother’s constant achievement drove Woodrow to reach his best. The brothers and eventually sister would spend a large time in the Vermont wilderness around their home exploring their forest of a backyard.

Inspired by his father to pursue a career in law, and the romanticizing of the police/government agencies in pop culture media he pushed himself in academics and sports to meet the stringent requirements of these agencies. He attended the University of Vermont of five years studying law and accounting. After graduation he became a uniformed police officer with the Burlington Police Department for five years (Three on the city SWAT unit) before applying for the FBI.

After the several month screening/vetting process he was shipped to Quantico to receive his training. Woodrow enjoyed the environment greatly as he strived for the top spot of his class. He was quick to realize that it wasn’t what the media portrayed it to be but he was far too invested to back out, and frankly was glad it was more mundane and normal than originally thought. After spending two years as a field agent he was eligible for HRT try outs. He’d trained since Burlington for that day, which was warranted as it took his all to survive.

Graduating in 2013, the HRT was bombarded with a vast number of missions thanks to the after effects of the so called ‘Zone’. Outside of riots, mass killings, high-risk warrants and terror plots there was the new problem of detaining illegal anomalous artifacts that had been smuggled out of the Zone via black market. Even without having ever going near the Zone its effects could be felt everywhere. For good or for bad. He always felt a little bit of fear in his gut when they got the seal of the DAA stamped on their mission folder.

Come seven years later, Woodrow now sees a larger challenge that he can take. He’d seen the effects of anomalous artifacts with the HRT, heard the horror stories from the survivors and refugees but had never seen The Zone first hand. His inner adrenaline seeker and masochist wanted to take this new challenge with the DAA, and his better nature appealed to the Closure Department’s mission. He’d seen the devastation of the unknown, what happens when there is no closure for a victim or their family. Hopefully, he can help give an answer.

Gender: Male
Age: 30

Equipment:
  • UDP-9 SMG + two-point quick-adjustable sling
  • Three 50 9x19mm round drum magazines, (1 in use)
  • STF-12S Shotgun
  • Fifteen 12-gauge buckshot shells, six loaded
  • FN Five-Seven + suppressor, + laser sight, + mini Red Dot sight.
  • Two 20 round 5.7x28mm magazines (1 in use)
  • 30 round 5.7x28mm extended magazine
  • DoAA-issued mobile phone
  • DoAA-issued large backpack (with various clothes and supplies)
  • DoAA-issued bullet-resistant vest + 12-gauge bullet loops
  • UDP-9-sized portable gun case
  • Weapon charms
  • Various small PARA-Tech research tools.

Skills: James has a decent level of management ability, derived from his time behind a DoAA desk and being forced into guiding fresh hires several times despite being relatively new himself. However, it's not at a proficient level, and there are likely to be many with more of a knack for leading. In addition, he's received some praise for his adeptness at deescalating several kinds of hostile situations.

Also:
  • Good shot in controlled conditions with low-caliber weapons (ninth place in the DoAA unofficial Marksmanship Competition: Light Weapons Category).
  • Self-calming under pressure.
  • Some medical knowledge.
Weaknesses:
  • Relatively physically weak, though reasonably fit.
  • Not yet desensitized to gore and violence.
  • No genetic enhancements.
  • No prior firsthand Zone experience
Personality: James is warm at first, but not overly extroverted and is quick to separate from anyone abrasive or sharp-tongued. However, he makes an effort to be kind and understanding and is happy to help and forgive when required. Reasonably loyal to friends. Doesn't like holding grudges except in extreme circumstances. Sticks to one drink each payday. Not usually courageous.
Biography:
It's a common occurrence these days in the brave new post-Nevada Zone world to see people going on and on about all the wonderful things that all that anomalous technology brought. Cancer is gone, cybernetics are in vogue, tissue regeneration is pervasive, and so many more. They'll ignore that quite a bit of it is still only for the rich and their chequebooks. We’re all in the golden age according to the media and public, aside from the few little conspiracy theorists and those poor refugees driven mad by their experiences in the Zone.

Most have never offered a thought for the people the advancement left behind. James Lee was just one of them, a model student with good grades, achievements and broad involvement in activities who had their dream field swept away from underneath them. From the moment he’d stepped foot in the palliative wing of a hospital as a child and seen others suffer, Lee had always wanted to pursue a career in oncology, to help those with the dreaded but sadly most inevitable disease of them all.

The Zone had changed all that. Just as he was reaching the end of a good but expensive undergraduate degree in Medicine at the University of California, a few scientists announced the revolutionary regenerative technology that practically cured all forms of cancer. Overnight, the field of oncology withered, and before long it was a shell of itself. The discoveries left little need for research; they had their miracle treatment. With the existence of their field now a moot point, the average pay and opportunities for oncologists dropped hard and fast. Their work was reduced to diagnoses and pointing the right laser at the right place, both made laughably easy by the new technology.

He had financial assistance for his postgraduate degree in the pipeline, and even a scholarship was in sight, but it quickly became apparent neither would have much worth outside the campus. His options included continuing his degree so he could he could be charitable and help the developing world, which hadn’t felt much of the new medicinal techniques the Zone had given the West, or find work as a generic doctor. With student loans hovering imposingly over him, neither appealed, and so he finished his Medicine degree and went out in the world with little in ways of a life plan and his previous one in tatters.

Over the winter break of 2016, the relief came, with the foundation of the Department of Anomalous Affairs. Having spent some time in a variety of courses and decent grades, James had not had too much difficulty finding relatively comfortable although tenuous and non-medicinal employment, but something about the DoAA called him. Perhaps it was being on the forefront of the world as it seemed to the media that did so, or the privilege of getting in and about with the weird and wonderful of Nevada. Regardless of the reason, he leapt at the opportunity.

His application was received quite well by the Department, and upon seeing his medicinal skill they signed him up as a researcher. The job turned out to be more of a lab assistant for seasoned veterans of their field, but James was happy with the decent salary and stability of the job. He saw a few items from the Zone, but only those unclassified and light enough that the DoAA had decided to let James and others of his occupation handle, but even those unimaginable specimens were enough to satisfy his curiosity.

Of course, the Zone went and screwed it all up again. When a rouge group of scavengers initially looking for artefacts sent the Groom Lake research facility into a meltdown resulting in its detonation, the sudden decrease in production of new anomalies led to budget cuts for the DoAA’s R&D wing. James and quite a few of his associates were shuffled into desk jobs barely touching on research with no transfer in sight.

The discoveries of 2014-16 had shaken up the academic world considerably, and the uncertainty of it all meant few employers saw James’ medical degree as a worthy asset. No matter how he looked, the only openings he could find had lesser pay and lacked the benefits of his current tenure in public service. So, he suffered away for two years as his contract required, filing letters in a tedious nine to five, where his knowledge and even the PARA-Tech biochemical courses he’d taken during his work, barely ever came into conversation or consideration. Two years passed uneventfully.

The therapy proved to be successful, reducing the symptoms to once per week for three weeks, before stopping altogether.

Detailed report available at ██████████.

But, perhaps in a display of pity by the universe, an opportunity arose in the announcement of the Closure Department and the Reclamation of Nevada in late 2018. They were looking for researchers to join the incursions into the Zone to collect data and run tests, real exciting fieldwork. After a m̦͖͙̦ͫͥ͟ week ḭ̸̭̽̈́̿̒̈ of k̫̯̦͉̓̀͋̽̾̚͞ carefula̙̠̪̺̙͍̞͗ͬ consideration e̳̲̯̗ͦ͑̉ and ḷ͕ͤ͌͊ musing, James practically leaped at the chance to escape the dreary little cubicles in the DoAA's various research offices, and was promptly shuffled to the back of a queue formed by people considerably move decisive. After more than another year of waiting, he finally got the message; he was being airdropped into District Five in three months. A month and a half of somewhat intense physical and scientific training did little to curb his enthusiasm. The days have passed by like lightning, and soon he'll be on his way to the deserts of Nevada.

So how's the RP going to start off? Are we all sorta on our own or will we be in a centralized area to start?

Name: Manuel Vasquez
Gender: Male
Age: 42
Appearance:
Image

Equipment:
Skills:
  • CIA Training
  • Special Operations Training
  • Persuasive
Weaknesses:
  • Vengeful
  • Lacks sympathy
  • Thickheaded
Personality: A person of quiet nature. Manuel is one that believes in keeping his words to a limit at the workplace, he is reserved on his personal life and will only socialize in times of no other choice, but that is very rare for him. He is calculative as his job has taught him, and never wishes to go into a situation where he is not informed. Its best not to push him, he will choose his words and actions wisely but he firmly believes in an eye for an eye.
Biography:
Born in Tucson, Arizona to a Mexican American father and a Colombian immigrant mother Manuel's life devolved from one of normal idealist nature to an environment of violence and brutality. He never associated with any of the gangs that formed around him in school or around home, mostly given to his father's profession as a prosecutor, which influenced Manuel into a mindset of supreme justice. He admired his father's dedication to bring justice against those that had wronged society, to Manuel this and Catholicism were the only things that mattered, alongside his mother who he had always seen as someone who had worked hard to be where she was now. Due to his father, Manuel wished to become someone in law someday, he studied hard to make this dream come true someday.

Manuel's idealistic vision of things and relatively calm life came to an end when his father was able to make a case against an infamous drug chief of Arizona affiliated to Mexican and Colombian Cartels. This prosecution made his father a red target to the Cartel and despite police protection it came to the day where nearly a dozen men with weapons of high caliber arrived to Manuel's home, killing the police patrolmen and firing at the house with rapid fire, Manuel's father tried to put up a fight, killing 5 assailants and being able to save Manuel and his mother from the burning house, this sadly ended with him being gunned down, the building collapsing with his dead body still inside. Manuel and his mother were alive, but Manuel never forgot what happened to the man he had always admired.

The tragedy didn't end there, Manuel's mother entered into a deep depression, and despite a comfy pension for his husbands death and contribution to society she was never the same. Manuel was fueled with a deep wish for vengeance, no longer believing in the system that his father had worked for, since it had only brought pain. Manuel was unable to do much, but he continued his studies at the government's pocket, graduating from college with a criminal justice degree. This was not his endgoal.

Manuel shortly signed for the CIA, his degree serving him well alongside his sheer will to become able to enact direct justice. He worked as an foreign intelligence agent throughout Latin America, helping with the tracking and elimination of several cartel members and cells. He eventually left the CIA to become a freelance mercenary, which worked well for him. He was eventually contracted by the Federal Government once again to help in the "Reclamation" of what is known as, "The Zone" the offer of payment too good to be ignored.

Insaeldor wrote:So how's the RP going to start off? Are we all sorta on our own or will we be in a centralized area to start?

Everyone will be starting in District Five and will meet up at the Department headquarters for introductions and briefing on the mission.

Also, expect the IC sometime this week.

Name: Arnold Pike

Gender: Male

Age: 32

Appearance: See to the right.

Equipment:
Colt Diamondback
HK416
Cowboy hat (Same as image, essentially)
Flashlight

Skills: Decent shot, in a good fit, cautious.

Weaknesses: Little knowledge or experience with the Zone.

Personality: Arnold is cautious yet inquisitive. He's rather brave as well, and will try to help people when he can. He's a soft-spoken man, but when he does talk he can be amicable, but not always polite.

Biography: Arnold was born in Abilene, Texas, the younger brother of Noah Pike. His father owned a ranch ten miles from the town, where both children were raised. Him and his family lived a rather normal life, as normal as most lives are. However, Noah was frustrated with life in western Texas, and wanted to see the world. When he was old enough, he signed up for the Army and was deployed in Afghanistan. However, not a year later he was sent back after a serious injury in his foot. Instead of going back to Abilene, he moved to Terrell, next to Dallas, where he would attend a college. Later, he had a boy he called "Robert".

Meanwhile, Arnold too wanted to leave Abilene. However, his mother was developing Alzheimers. In order to take off some pressure, his father took a vacation to Las Vegas to have some fun before he would eventually die. But of course, the Zone began to form, and his father was one of many who disappeared. Worse news came again a year later, when Arnold heard that his brother killed his wife in a drunken argument, and that his nephew also disappeared the same night. Arnold couldn't do anything though, as he had to take care of his mother, whose mental condition was rapidly deteriorating. He hadn't the heart to tell her all the things that had happened, and she still believed her husband was "on vacation".

But then, in 2019, Arnold's mother finally died, just as she was gaining some memories back. With his mother dead, Arnold was now determined to find answers, not just for his father, but for his nephew as well. He drove to Nevada, where he joined the recently created Closure Department.
