Alliance of Peasants strike brutally crushed

Postby Kadule » Wed Nov 15, 2017 8:45 am

Wednesday the 15th of November 2017:

The recently formed Aliança dos Camponeses (AdC) / Alliance of Peasants has announced its decision to engage in a massive work boycott following a rejection by landowners to meet their list of demands. These demands are:

1 - No worker will be fired, arrested or in any way punished for taking part in any protest activity.
2 - Workers guaranteed the right to appeal dismissals to a worker's organisation, with unjust firing to be banned.
3 - Workers to be given three separate written warnings for three separate and legitimate issues before being fired.
4 - At a minimum meetings between workers and farm owners to be held on a monthly basis, where concerns from workers can be raised.
5 - Any overseer who attempts to or actively assaults, beats or rapes any worker to be immediately fired and charged for their crime.
6 - The immediate institution of a minimum wage of 100 Estrela per hour (the equivalent of US $5 per hour, the current average wage for workers is 20 Estrella an hour, about US $1 per hour, although this varies, with some payed better and some payed worse).
7 - Ordinary work time to be set between 7:30am and 12:00 midday, with a 1 hour break, followed by work from 1:00pm to 4:30pm.
8 - Ordinary work days to be set from Monday through to Friday, with Saturday off in addition to Sunday. (Almost all farm owners in the country do not work on Sunday, so here the demand is more so for the weekend off).
9 - Workers guaranteed the week of Easter, the week of Independence Day, the week of Christmas and the week of New Year's Day off.
10 - That any overtime work - that is to say work outside of ordinary work hours - be both optional and see workers guaranteed a minimum overtime wage of 200 Estrela per hour (the equivalent of US $10 per hour).
11 - Overtime pay for work on a Sunday or Public holiday to be set at a minimum overtime wage of 300 Estrela per hour (the equivalent of US $15 per hour).
12 - Farm owners to be held liable and cover the cost of medical bills from injuries resulting from poor quality equipment or excessive work.
13 - Workers to not be held liable for failings of poor quality equipment.
14 - Farm owners to help cover the cost of Independence Day celebrations and New Years' celebrations for all employees and their families.
15 - Pregnant women workers to be given at least 5 weeks paid leave off before their due date and at least 5 weeks paid leave off after giving birth.

While a handful of farm owners agreed to some of these demands, none accepted all and most rejected all 15 completely. The AdC then appealed to the government to step in, but the ruling PLPCK refuses to recognise them, calling them a "counter-revolutionary organisation that is undermining national unity". The main opposition MGPK, and their allies the PPN and PH, have labelled the AdC as a "radical Communist organisation promoting worker laziness and insubordination".

As such, somewhere around a million farmworkers have today downed tools across the nation and have stated that they will not return to work until their demands are met, or at least until a reasonable compromise is reached between farm owners and the national leadership of the AdC. Tsukende, Mjumbi, Miscigenado (Mixed Race) and Indian Kadulean farmworkers alike have gone on strike, and its effects are being felt in all 8 Provinces.

In a few instances, protesting farmworkers have attempted to block other farmworkers who rejected the boycott from going to work. Farm overseers and police have broken up such protests however, with 73 protesters arrested and many more injured nationwide.

Farm owners and business leaders are looking to Presidente Kanganisa Zulgwona and other local and national leaders for guidance. Presidente Kanganisa Zulgwona has called on all patriotic workers to return to work tomorrow, stating that they are harming the nation, stating that the AdC is a "treacherous capitalist bloodsucker organisation backed by foreign powers", and that the organisation is "attempting to sow national disunity to suit their own perverted agenda".

King Zakhambi Umgwablo VI, traditional leader of the Mjumbi people and constitutional monarch of Provincia do Mjumbi, has called on Mjumbi workers in particular to "respect the proud traditions of our people and our nation by turning up tomorrow and working hard as God commands", stating that he would help fund Christmas banquets for Mjumbi farmworkers arriving at work tomorrow, but would not provide any funds towards those who failed to do so.

Thursday the 16th of November 2017:

Following the calls from both Presidente Kanganisa Zulgwona and King Zakhambi Umgwablo VI for farmworkers to return to work today, a few thousand farmworkers have returned to work, particularly in deeply patriotic Mjumbi rural areas. The vast majority of the around a million farmworkers boycotting work have still refused to return to work however, with the AdC providing food to boycotting workers using its collective funds.

The two day stay away has already had a major impact of the profits of a number of Kadulean farms, particularly smaller ones. In some places currently unemployed locals and in some cases young children are being offered work to replace the boycotting workers. A number of children in particular have rejected these offers however, as it is mostly their parents who are boycotting.

Some of the larger and better off farms have suggested bringing in immigrants to work on their farms if local Kaduleans refuse to, with Tanzania, Kenya and Nchiyamengi the natural choices. This has led to threats of xenophobic violence against foreign farmworkers should they accept such jobs.

Food security is not yet a serious issue, with shops well stocked for now, but several shops are beginning to already tighten what they are putting out and are raising prices marginally. There is a real concern that if the strike continues at this scale for more than a week, that food items such as milk in particular will begin to be in a real shortage, with beef, lamb and even bread looking not far behind. This has seen the Kadulean Estrella falling slightly in the stock market.

The co-chairs of the AdC, Betshwa Mologisa and Jimi Kundona, have called on government, national and local alike, to meet with them and other representatives of the AdC to negotiate a way forward. They have stated that workers will go on engaging in this boycott until a compromise that they are content with is reached.

Presidente Kanganisa Zulgwona has yet to respond to this, although a government spokesman has stated that he will have a statement on the matter "soon". King Zakhambi Umgwablo VI has stated that he is "disappointed to see how many of my Mjumbi brethren in particular have been so easily duped by these communist charlatans, who act like they care about workers while stealing their hard earned money and leading them astray". He has stated he "will give one last chance to workers to return to work tomorrow, or else they can consider themselves cast off from my royal protection".

Royal protection is an old custom in the Mjumbi community, and being cast off from it traditionally meant being exiled. As the king is a ceremonial figure today, and only even amongst the Mjumbi community, casting off people from royal protection today will likely simply be a ceremonial condemnation.

Friday the 17th of November 2017:

The entirety of the 1st Division of the Mabetshwa Army Corps, all 10 000 men of them, have been sent into the rural areas of Província do Tsukende and Província da Independência and are actively escorting farmworkers to work, telling them that failure to do so will result in them being placed under military detention under charges of high treason, a charge that carries the death penalty if found guilty.

The AdC has not yet commented, largely as it seems its entire executive disappeared overnight. Co-chairman Betshwa Mologisa vanished from the house of a sympathetic farmworker in Província do Tsukende some time in the night, along with the entire family staying there. Illegal undercover reporting has released video image that the house has been ransacked, with some blood stained on the walls and floors, but no bodies present.

Fellow co-chairman Jimi Kundona disappeared from his home in the small rural village of Gundonowa in Província do Mjumbi last night. Illegal undercover reporting has released statements from locals in the village that say they heard shouting in the house last night before seeing men wearing dark balaclavas to mask their faces dragging a number of figures from the house with bags over their head into a dark truck and driving them away.

Presidente Kanganisa Zulgwona has released a statement that "the people of this nation will not be held ransom by a handful of treacherous cowards who run from an honest hard days work. These farmworkers will return to work, and those who refused to do so willingly will have their wages cut for their insolence. Now they will work for lodge and board, and for our glorious nation. Let me be clear, they will work, or they will die".

A number of Kaduleans in exile have already condemned this move, with one feminist woman's rights activist in hiding in Zaxumadi, Mamzania "Mamzo" Pandigana stating "this is nothing short of state authorised slavery of its own people, to the benefit of the wealthiest of land owners and to the benefit of the dictatorial state".

King Zakhambi Umgwablo VI has denied any knowledge of these raids or attacks, but their is mounting pressure from landowners for the Second Army and the King's Army to adopt similar policies and force workers to go to work. While the 2nd Army technically reports to Presidente Kanganisa Zulgwona, the realities of local politics mean that the numerous Divisions and Brigades of this army are more loyal to local governments, often Mjumbi MGPK rather than Tsukende PLPCK, and so are awaiting comment from MGPK leadership to act.

Saturday the 18th of November 2017:

The 2nd Army and King’s Army have today instituted similar strategies used by the 1st Army to force farm workers to go to work, threatening those farm workers who refuse to go to work with treason.

The list of exilied activists condemning this action is growing, with increased calls overseas for trade sanctions. The potential food shortage locally has been well and truly dealt with. In the midst of all this, the short lived AdC was formally banned, with both the National Assembly and Senate voting unanimously in favour of doing so, with the President signing the ban into effect.

Massive protests have broken out in the slums of Mabetshwa and in some rural areas. In the slums of Mabetshwa soldiers and tanks were seen moving in to restore order. Illegal reporting coming from the slums is that at least 100 protesters have been killed, although this is unconfirmed.

Sunday the 19th of November 2017:

Feminist woman's rights activist Mamzania "Mamzo" Pandigana, who went in hiding in Zaxumadi some years back after facing treason charges for "sowing discord against the government", was today found stabbed to death in her apartment in Xixoxana, capital of Zaxumadi. This came just two days after Mamzo said on Zaxumadi her radio show, in relation to the forced return of Kadulean farmworkers to work under military supervision that "this is nothing short of state authorised slavery of its own people, to the benefit of the wealthiest of land owners and to the benefit of the dictatorial state [of Kadule]".

In other news, despite the Sabbath usually being a day off for farmworkers, in Província do Tsukende and Província da Independência military personnel are forcing farmworkers to go to work today between 6:45am and 6pm today, with a 15 minute lunch break at midday, in order for farmworkers to "make up time lost during their illegal strike activity. This means farmworkers will be working an 11 hour work day today. Further, those who refused to return to work willingly will be working for no pay.

Sunday the 19th of November 2017:

Officials in Zaxumadi are saying the death of Mamzania "Mamzo" Pandigana was an assassination by "As Sombras" agents of the Agência Nacional de Segurança de Kadule (ANSK) / Kadule National Security Agency, and are calling it a politically motivated assassination. In light of this, and following the military forcing farm workers to go to work under threat of treason charges and to work for no pay, Presidente Cristina Xhonda has signed a swiftly complied Executive Order banning all trade between Zaxumadi and Kadule and boycotting all Kadulean goods. Kadulean goods currently in the nation are being seized by the government and will be distributed amongst the poor, with local businesses reimbursed by the state for seized wares. A vote will be put forward in the Zaxumadi Asamblea Nacional for the legislature to formally vote on whether to approve or reject the boycott, with the boycott almost certainly to pass.

Zaxumadi and Kadule have long refused to set up embassies in one another's nations, but this latest move of a complete severing of economic ties looks set to ensure a new level of hostility between the two nations.

Sunday the 19th of November 2017:

A spokesman for the Presidency has denied that Kadulean officials had anything to do with the death of Mamzania "Mamzo" Pandigana, stating that Mrs Pandigana likely committed suicide due to her deep seated psychological issues and depression.

Kadulean officials have responded to the boycott by similarly banning all trade with Zaxumadi, have ordered that all Madis leave Kadule within 24 hours and have publicly seized and burned all goods from Zaxumadi, along with any and all Zaxumadi flags that could be found in Kadule.

To the Honourable Kanganisa Zulgwona, President of the Republic of Kadule

It has come to our attention that your armed forces have recently engaged in the brutal suppression of a workers union, itself attempting to put forward reasonable demands. It has also come to our attention that your nation has similarly forced the farmworkers engaged in this work stay away to return to work under threat of potential execution, and that you have forced them to work for no pay. Such action has been further worsened by forcing workers to work on Sunday, their one day off.

While respecting the rights of a given nation to manage its own internal matters, the Republic of Nchiyamengi cannot in good faith trade openly with a nation that engages in the brutal suppression of worker rights. With this in mind the Republic of Nchiyamengi will be immediately ceasing all trade in weaponry and ammunition with the Republic of Kadule, as well as the trade of all vehicles. Such trade may resume at such a stage as the Republic of Kadule ceases the brutal suppression of worker rights, unbans the Aliança dos Camponeses (AdC) and confirms the location and safety of all high ranking members if the (AdC), releasing them without charge.

Until such actions are adopted, the Republic of Nchiyamengi cannot trade with the Republic of Kadule in terms of weaponry and vehicles in good faith.

We hope that we will be able to continue working with you now and in the future.

To the acting President of Nchiyamengi, Antonio Hlayambinda

I remember when you and your followers were hiding in the jungles of Nchiyamengi, hunted by the Butcher Marcos Kampiya. I remember the requests for help that you sent to my late father, how you requested for military aid in your time of need. I remember as not one year back you and your forces were still but rebels.

I remember also when you and your party were true Communists, committed to an African Revolution of the Proletariat. Today you are Social Democrats, slow reformists accepting a the capitalist status quo.

So before you come here with your idle threats of economic sanctions, remember who it was who helped you in your darkest days in the jungle. Remember who you true allies are: true Communists and not these bourgeoise foreign agents.

We will handle the internal insurrection of rebellious traitors how we see fit. If you had more commitment towards national unity maybe you would put down similar insurrection in your own nation.

I give you 24 hours to reconsider your plan. Should trade not be fully reopened, all trade between Nchiyamengi and Kadule will cease, and we will look for a true Communist force in your nation to endorse in the coming elections.

We advise you against making idle threats and to stay out of business that does not concern you. We will leave you and yours to go on existing in the swamp from whence you came. We expect and demand that you keep you colonial desires there too however, and stay out of our internal affairs.

Stay out of our internal affairs and we will be more than happy to see our ways to developing an amiable network of trade. However, should you attempt to violate our national sovereignty you will be met without peace or mercy, and whatsoever forces you send to our soil will be returned home in bodybags.

We trust that you will see your way to making the wise decision.

To the honourable Kangansia Zulgwona, President of Kadule

After due deliberation, the Kingdom of Lyseria has decided to suspend all sale of weaponry, ammunition and vehicles to the Republic of Kadule. This is due to the decision to force farmworkers to work without pay. While the internal labour laws of a nation should indeed be left to that nation, no government has the right to force innocent civilians to attend and engage in work that they do not wish to.

We suggest that it would be in the best interest of the Republic of Kadule to simply engage with protesting workers, or else leave the matter to private farm owners, allowing them to fire striking farmworkers and simply employ new ones.

If such a policy is reversed then trade can resume between our two nations. We cannot in good faith trade with a nation that engages in such a policy of forced unpaid labour.

We hope that we will be able to resume trade soon

While the government has yet to respond to this latest letter, information has clearly reached some of the rebel groups in Kadule.

Jimi Odonge, the "General" of the Zamoharu - the armed rebel wing of the banned far-left RCPK - has tried to get in contact with the Skyhooked. Behetu Ngomana, a RCPK activist in exile in Cuba has tried to made contact with Skyhooked on behalf of the Zamoharu

Behetu Ngomana is promising that if Skyhooked can smuggle weapons and ammunition into Kadule and to the Zamoharu then they will be able to "overthrow the Zulgwona Dynasty by as early as Christmas". They promise to overturn the "embrace of slavery" and to establish a fair minimum wage and working conditions for all workers.
Kadule is a commentary on the damaged state of post-colonial African nations and the conflict between national groups, races, the vast disparity between rich and poor, corruption and election rigging and religious fundamentalism. It does not reflect my views.

Skyhookedian Agency recieved the transmissions of Zamoharu, and found an obscure and safe channel to send a response.

From: Skyhookedian Agency
To: Zamoharu.
Encryption: Agency standart.

We picked up your transmission. And at first place would like to thank for choosing us as partners. Atlanto gangsters will smuggle our high quality weapons to the location, you specify. Locations for next shipments will be specified in attachment. It's not smart to do everything in one place you know. Agents "Shaira" and "Kondor" will arrive too. Question you must ask them and password, they must say in response, are in attachment too. Encrypted attachment and a key for it will be found in the first crate of weapons. Do NOT lose it.

Squad Lambda will be near in case if there are problems. Don't worry, they know how to bury enemy bodies. Also, we made a small fake smuggling operation, which is a bait, designed to distract enemies from actual operation.

KINGDOM OF THE UNITED TURTLES, MUSHROOMS, AND MEN OF TURTLESHROOM
EXECUTIVE CABINET
MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS
BUREAUCRAT

TO THE KADULE STATE:

We have decided that merely commending the suppression of a general strike and uprising is not enough, and, having read the demands of the laborers, do agree that there are some concessions that should be honored. We will address each point and our reccomendations as follows.

  • 1. DO NOT GRANT THIS CONCESSION. This licenses the union thugs and their lackeys to stop commerce at-will. No civilized nation should concede this.
  • 2. DO NOT GRANT THIS CONCESSION. See above. Employees serve at the pleasure of the employer and may be terminated at any time, for any reason.
  • 3. DO NOT GRANT THIS CONCESSION. WORKERS ARE NOT ENTITLED TO THEIR OCCUPATION. Employees serve at the pleasure of the employer and may be terminated at any time, for any reason.
  • 4. THIS IS A GOOD IDEA, BUT IT SHOULD NOT BE MANDATORY. TurtleShroom strongly reccomends employers to engage in active dialog with their employees.
  • 5. GRANT THIS CONCESSION. These employees are FREEMEN and are thus NOT slaves. Do you cut off the hands of people that don't make quotas, too? All rapists should be executed anyone who beats their workers should be terminated and subjected to immediate criminal prosecution. We are shocked that your nation allows for such savage behavior and urge you to stop the abuse as soon as possible.
  • 6. DO NOT GRANT THIS CONCESSION. Minimum wages drastically raise base prices of all goods and harm the poor more than any other group. They also incentivize the tyranny of automation and endanger jobs. It is better to have a job and get paid than to have a higher pay guarenteed but have no job.
  • 7. DO NOT GRANT THIS CONCESSION. The government has no place mandating work hours.
  • 8. DO NOT GRANT THIS CONCESSION. The government has no place limiting the week day. We strongly urge Sunday to continue as an universal day off, however.
  • 9. GRANT THIS CONCESSION. We believe that days off for holy days and holidays are essential to workers' families.
  • 10. THIS IS A GOOD IDEA, BUT IT SHOULD NOT BE MANDATORY. TurtleShroom reccomends employers consider implementing overtime.
  • 11. GRANT THIS CONCESSION. Anyone who works on a holy day or holiday should be generously compensated.
  • 12. GRANT THIS CONCESSION. All corporations are, and should be, liable for injuries or death on the job if it can be proven that the worker did not subject themselves to injury by way of carelessness. We strongly urge the government to hold corporations accountable for injuries, failures, and deaths on the job.
  • 13. GRANT THIS CONCESSION. See above. It is not the farmers' fault if their equipment is terrible. We strongly urge the government to hold corporations accountable for injuries, failures, and deaths on the job.
  • 14. THIS IS A GOOD IDEA, BUT IT SHOULD NOT BE MANDATORY. We agree that having the holy days and holidays be paid time off is a good idea.
  • 15. THIS IS A GOOD IDEA, BUT IT SHOULD NOT BE MANDATORY. Female humans need their children the most immediately after birth and during the first three years of their life. We believe that corporations are right to compensate them, or at least not replace the employee, during a maternity leave.

The idea that your employees may be lawfully RAPED or BEATEN is indicative that your nation engages in slavery. That is INEXCUSABLE. At the very least, end these practices and enforce them strictly. We also urge, in the absolute strongest measures, that the government hold employers liable to injuries and death on the job.

God have mercy on us all,
-BUREAUCRAT ON BEHALF OF THE MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF THE KINGDOM OF THE UNITED TURTLES, MUSHROOMS, AND MEN OF TURTLESHROOM

To the Government of Turtleshroom

Do not dare to dictate the manner in which we choose to handle matters internally in our nation. As the elected officials of the Republic of Kadule we and only individuals suited to meet the needs of our people. Your colonial attempt to undermine our national sovereignty is as foolish as it is weak.

It seems further that you place far too much stock on the word of these traitors and cowards who refused to engage in an honest day’s work. We have it on good authority that the accusations of rapes and beatings of workers by overseers are nothing but lies, lies aimed to further the traitors cause and send true patriots to jail.

The Republic of Kadule does not accept rape, and all rapists face the death penalty. It is evident however that the treacherous women laying these claims are all lying to try further their own perverse political aims.

We must further note that slavery is not legal in Kadule, this is but more slander by foreign agents trying to undermine our nation. These workers undermined the food security of our nation, and in so doing undermined national security. They will be treated accordingly for their crimes. No amount of foreign whining will change this.

We suggest you do what is wise and stay out of our affairs.

President of the Republic of Kadule
Supreme Commander of the Kadulean Armed Forces

Information is smuggled through requesting that the weaponry by dropped off by the small fishing village of Someki-Wendago in an isolated part of coast in Província do Tsukende, with the crates disguised as fish and fish bait. Contacts in the village will be disguised as fishermen waiting out on the rocks at 4am, and must be asked if the seagulls are a hassle. If they are the contacts they will respond that "yes, but soon they shall all fall down".

Atlanto gangsters group arrived to the destination at the specified time on a few boats. They were disguised as fishermen from fish company, who decided to offer their new fish bait product to local fishermen. However, it was decided, that there will be no crates with fish, since selling fish to fishing village doesn't make much sense.

Smugglers were dressed in fishing waders and yellow raincoats, long enough to conceal Tommy guns. They came out of the boat, and soon their capo asked contacts: "We are pretty new to those places... I wonder, are seagulls a hassle?" He waited for the answer, preparing to give a signal to his boys in case of an ambush.

To the backstabbing rat, Antonio Hlayambinda

You have failed to respond within our set deadline to reconsider you foolish position. As such, all trade between the Republic of Kadule and the Republic of Nchiyamengi will cease with immediate effect.

Furthermore, all Nchiyamengians will have 24 hours to either leave the Republic of Kadule or renounce the decision of the weak regime in Nchiyamengi and pledge their life, loyalty and service to the Republic of Kadule.

All Nchiyamengian products in Kadule will be seized and destroyed as the tainted and pathetic idols to weakness that they are. Your pathetic dependancy will no longer blight our nation's sacred soil.

My father made few mistakes, but it seems one of the few he did make was supporting the weak pathetic mess of flesh that you are Hlayambinda.

Your short reign will come to an end soon.

"Eh, they are part of the scenery really, we share the ocean with them don't we" said the first fisherman the approached, smiling wryly.

He looked like an ordinary fisherman. A little further down the street however, a small group of rather muscular and young fishermen seemed to watch the group with interest. One of them seemed to motion for them to approach.

Gangster capo looked at a fisherman a bit, he knew, that the response was wrong. But he didn't give a signal for attack. He just responded: "Well, indeed we do. But wait... I need to make an important call." -He said, as he reached for a phone, just to pretend, that he is needed elsewhere: "I found a good place to exploit, it's probably rich with fish, but I am not entirely sure. Right now, I am trying to determine what fish can be found, by asking local fishermen. Wait... what do you mean, restricted waters? Okay, I will move elsewhere."

With those words, he gave a signal for his guys to return to the boat. Gangsters returned, but watched local "Fishermen" in case, they are disguised enemies, and will attack.

One of the strong looking fishermen started approaching the men as they began to leave. “Hold on there stranger, there are a lot of fishermen here today. Do you have some bait to sell us?”
