New President of Cuba 2018 Change You Can Beleive in or Not

Postby Greater Miami Shores » Fri Nov 03, 2017 9:08 am

Here we go again, another UN vote condemning the US embargo against the Cuban government dictatorship for life regime. Vote and post, if your desired poll option is not on the poll, post it marked other and I will count it into the poll from time to time, but I will reserve the right to determine if it fits the poll or the thread, either way I will give you credit for your other poll option on my post poll vote report.

On Thursday April 19 2018 the new Cuban National Assembly Parliament will chose the next President of Cuba, probably first Vice President and Comrade, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, one day before his 58th birthday, when Raúl retires, lol, but Raúl will remain a member of the Cuban National Assembly Parliament, and First Secretary of the Politburo of the Communist Party Central Committee, and General of the Armed Forces, real change we can believe in, lol.

A good read news story by Argentinian columnist, Andrés Oppenheimer, Criticize Venezuela dictatorship but mum on Cuba? That’s political hypocrisy, which is covered on my poll by option 1. But his news story also points out that while President Trump announced tougher sanctions on Cuba awhile back, he left many of President Obama's policy on Cuba as is, but recently due to the alleged sonic attacks on US diplomats and Canadian diplomats in La Habana, it seems the Trump administration is tightening up the embargo and using the alleged sonic attacks on American and Canadian diplomats as an excuse to derail the improved US Cuban relatons started by President Obama, real change we can believe in from the American side of course, but not from the Cuban government side, lol, I am having a lol attack.
http://www.miamiherald.com/news/local/n ... 68522.html

The Trump administration expelled 15 Cuban diplomats from their embassy in the US, as a response to the alleged sonic attacks on American and Canadian diplomats in La Habana.

The Trump administration has reduced its embassy diplomats in La Habana to a bare minimum, left only one US diplomat who can process US visas, withdrew the diplomats who handle business relations, announced Cuban nationals may now apply for Cuban visitor visas at other embassies, announced Cuban nationals can apply for the 20,000 immigration visas per year in their embassy in Bogota Colombia, where they will also be interviewed, making it hard to impossible for many Cuban nationals to do so, as it takes time and money to fly to Colombia and be on time for the interviews, and the money $ has to be sent by their Cuban American relatives and friends in the US, their overseas Cuban American immigrant community when they want our hard currency $ money, and the anti social, anti democratic, hardline intransigent, anti revotion-ary Gusano worms, e scoria scums elements Cuban American Mafia of Miami when they want to put us down, the same thing they call any Cuban nationals in Cuba opposed to the Cuban government.

U.S. and Cuba use United Nations stage to launch verbal attacks against each other

Saying that Cuba has used the U.S. embargo against the island as a “shiny object to distract the world” from its own failures, the United States bucked the sentiment in the United Nations General Assembly Wednesday and voted against a resolution condemning the embargo.

The General Assembly voted overwhelmingly to condemn the embargo, but reflecting the Trump administration’s new harder line on Cuba, the United States voted once again to reject the nonbinding resolution. It was its 25th no vote on the resolution, which has come up every year since 1991.

The final vote was 191 in favor with two no votes by the United States and Israel, which traditionally votes with the U.S.

The renewed hostility between Cuba and the United States was on full display as Nikki Haley, the U.S. representative to the United Nations, called the long-standing debate on the embargo “political theater,” and said Cuba “is sending the warped message to the world that the sad state of its economy, the oppression of its people, and the export of its destructive ideology are not its fault.”

U.S. United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley address the U.N. Security Council in September. The United States cast a no vote on a resolution condemning the embargo on Wednesday.
Bebeto Matthews AP

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez used more than half of his speech to take umbrage at what he called Haley’s “offensive, interfering statements,” condemn the Trump administration’s Cuba policy, and correct what he said were historical errors in Haley’s remarks.

“The United States, where flagrant violations of human rights are committed, hasn’t the slightest moral authority to criticize Cuba,” he said.

The 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly considered a resolution Wednesday on the “necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial embargo imposed by the United States of America against Cuba.” Cia Pak UN Photo

For 26 years, Cuba has introduced the resolution calling for the immediate end of the U.S. embargo against the island, and for every year except 2016, the United States voted to reject the resolution. Last year the Obama administration directed its representative to abstain from the vote, reflecting the rapprochement between the two countries that began on Dec. 17, 2014. Israel also abstained in 2016, making the final vote 191 in favor with two abstentions.

In switching its vote last year away from a no, the Obama administration said rather than isolating Cuba, the embargo had served to isolate the United States from the rest of the world.

Recommendations announced by anti-embargo senators include allowing individual people-to-people travel, lifting restrictions on remittances and lifting limitations on bank transactions for Cubans who open U.S. bank accounts.

Posted by GMS: That is a comprise plan, lol, I am having a lol attack.

But Haley said that the United States would prefer to be isolated, rather than not stand up for the human rights and fundamental freedoms of the Cuban people.

For 55 years, she said, Cuba has used the embargo “as a shiny object to distract the world’s attention from the destruction it has inflicted on its own people and on others in the Western Hemisphere. Today the crime is the Cuban government’s continued repression of its people and failure to meet even the minimum requirements of a free and just society,” she said. “Our response has been to stand with the Cuban people and their right to determine their own future.”

Then Halley said she wanted to speak directly to the Cuban people. She said the United States supports Cubans’ right to speak freely, have uncensored access to the internet, provide for their families and determine their own leadership. But she said the Cuban government “silences its critics” and “rigs the economy so the government alone profits.”
Cuban officials immediately took to Twitter to attack Haley’s comments.

My views and comments:

If I were the Cuban government regime I would say and do the same thing, for abvious reasons, lol. As a native Cuban and American citizen, from my personal political perspective, I consider it shameful and deplorable like a basket of deplorables, for western style, democratic multi political party leaders of the world to demand democracy in Venezuela and other nations, but not when it comes to Cuba. When it comes to Cuba they favor diplomatic relations, economic, political, and tourist trade and aid for the Cuban government regime for life, they deny, excuse, and or support the Cuban regime, it is shameful and deplorable like a basket of deplorables. Who agrees with me, and who disagrees with me?

The Cuban government will soon be holding democratic (lol, gulp) national municipal one political party state elections, lol.

I want to cover the US embargo, the alleged sonic attacks, and the one political party state elections all in one thread. I think I made a good OP introduction post and poll, but you disagree. I copied the source story from the Miami Herald as my OP introduction post and made the poll to cover those points, with my own views added, because I don't have a paid account with them, and they keep blocking me from reading their paper online from time to time, and might block my source story.

Perhaps I'm being a bit parochial here, but usually people finish up with some questions like "What say ye, NSG?" or some such nonsense. I'm not going to lock the thread, don't worry, and it is a good OP, no question. I sympathise about the pay wall, too. I run into that whenever people link to the Washington Post.

A good read news story from the Miami Herald, probably covered on other news sources a similar way and similar to my OP introduction post, but still a good read.

I dedicate the last few verses of this song to President Raúl Castro Ruz of Cuba, because it fits him, Señor President, Mr President:

https://video.search.yahoo.com/yhs/sear ... tion=click

By the late great Luis Aguilé, an Argentinian Spaniard, actor, cartoon voice animator, comedian, singer and song writer, Señor President, Mr President, with my rough draft translation, it sounds better in Spanish, the translations can vary slightly based on what words you translate with. First he sings, follow by him singing with a video of what he sings about in the same link.

I am a common citizen, I only have one vote that you have asked me for, like so many persons you have convinced, I grant it to you, waiting patiently to see the day it is accomplished to the law of the letter what you have promised.

I know very well it is not easy to govern a nation without having problems, to distribute the wealth providing the bread to all at the table. Lets wait that you can accomplish that to jail will go all that deserve to pay for their corruption without exceptions.

That the law be imposed, we don't want to loose our ways of being, we are a people of peace, that the thieves don't have a way to win, because you promised to protect the nation.

They have come to survey me, because they want to know what we expect of you. That the insecurity which needs to end be a priority. Lets not continue the same, this is going from bad to worse, we have to be reasonable, this needs to change, you need to govern with firmness and action.

You travel protected by lights and motors by the police, while we are exposed to crimes by day and by night, we cant go out on the streets, we cant live like decent people, now we are not a nation, we are the kingdom of the delinquents.

That the law be imposed, we don't want to loose our ways of being, we are a people of peace, that the thieves not be able to win, because you promised us to protect the nation.

When you get to lead, not only to help those of your party, don't want to stay governing for life like an elected chosen one. Don't let yourself be guided by the temptation to change the nation, and change the constitution to your whims, desires and conviniences.

Now I only ask you that my humble vote not be forgotten by you. When you assume power, you have in your hands the glory to pass un to history, don't lie to us ever, don't be a demagogue lying to the people, serve with honour, with all my respect Señor President, Mr President.

I am watching this video of the great Luis Aguilé right now.

I have updated the OP introduction post with more information and comments and made it stronger and better, despite the fact that is was actually ok. While other nations have not posted on the thread, I thank the 27 votes on the poll so far which is an expression of their views.

My personal guess is far leftist nations on NS, supporters of the Cuban government (regime) would vote for poll options 4 7 and 9, other leftist nations would vote for options 4 6 and 9, other nations might vote for 3 7 9 or 3 6 9, with a few other options as optionals, all and all a fair and balanced poll like Fox News fair and Balanced, lol. 6 of 9 poll options maxium.

While I have not voted on my own poll yet, I would vote for poll options 1 2 5 8 and 10, I thank the 2 nations who have so far voted for option 1, which is covered on the poll based on Argentine columnist Andres Oppenheimer interesting news story, my next major post will be an important update on the US embargo regulations.

I mean this is quite nonsensical - the UN is not the WTO and has nothing to do with trade. Who embargoes who has never been a concern of the UN.

Thankfully the US is one of the few countries who ignore what the UN say so this won't amount to anything.

Didn't realize that we needed the UN in order to put trade embargoes on another nation.

One of the few? No one listens to the UN!

Why do we even still have the UN. Either get rid of it or form regional version like the AU (African Union) or the EU but instead of trade they deal with international politics and defense needs.

Because the UN isn't the world government, it's basically a big diplomatic organisation with very little power.

This. The UN has no more right to challenge the US sanctions on Cuba as it does to challenge the US/EU sanctions of Russia.

Cease and desist letters, telling you to stop but with no power to make you.

Of course not, because we are the power.

The biggest reason Trump is reimposing sanctions is because OBAMA lifted them. Tell Donald OBAMA ordered Bin Laden killed and he'd demand we research a way to bring Osama back to life.
Crimes committed by Muslims will be proof of a pan-Islamic plot and Islam's inherent evil. On the other hand, crimes committed by non-Muslims will merely be the acts of mentally ill lone wolves who do not represent their professed belief system at all.
The probability of someone secretly participating in homosexual acts is directly proportional to the frequency and loudness of their publicly professed disapproval and/or disgust for homosexuality.
If Donald Trump accuses an individual of malfeasance without evidence, it is almost a certainty either he or someone associated with him has in fact committed that very same malfeasance to a greater degree.

Obama shouldn't have lifted them to begin with.

To me the embargo question is no question at all. Of course, we should keep the embargo in place. We should keep it until Castro is gone.

Letter by Donald J Trump. Published Friday, June 25, 1999, in the Miami Herald

Which Obama lifted the sanctions in 1999? Wasn't he still farming in Kenya before being recruited by the CIA at this point?

Why not? The embargo was pretty pointless at this point. It's been over fifty years and Cuba still ain't yielding.

Why is yielding the goal?
