Halloween in your nation?

Postby Vallermoore » Mon Oct 30, 2017 9:24 pm

Trick or treating is banned in Vallermoore as people are either too young or too old for it, plus the zombie attacks mean there is too much risk of friendly fire if people dress up as undead on that night.

Not very popular in Yavakhstan.
Increasing awareness of it is spreading slowly so on a few years it may have found some popularity.

Children go into their own hologramic spacewire and say ‘Trick or Treat!’ A Galactic neighbourhood would send candy electronically and eventually pop up in the child’s room in real form.

For adults giving candy, they can choose what type of candy to give on their spacewire

HANDBOOK FOR FOREIGNERS ON GREAT NORTEND

Allhallowtide
All Hallows' Eve marks the first day of Allhallowtide, a three day period. Halloween in the American sense is not celebrated or observed in any way and attempts to bring such celebrations have been met with criticism and violence. Allhallowstide starts on the Friday before the first Sunday of November, not always on the 31st of October as in other countries. The entire period, excepting All Hallows' Eve, is a period of abstinence from meat, and butchershops are closed by law during the period.

The first day of Allhallowtide, All Hallows' Eve, begins at sundown and is marked by a procession to the church before a Vespers service, which is typically around 6 or 7 pm, after the Ave Pater. The procession is marked by the carriage of long poles upon which are atopped a flaming cross of wood, symbolising the sacrifice Jesus and the martyrs made. These poles are inserted in the graveyard ground and the crosses are allowed to burn away. Vigil is often kept.

All Saints' Day, the second day of Allhallowtide, is a holy day in Great Nortend. Most shops will be closed on this day, which is dedicated to the prayers to the saints, unrecognised martyrs. Graves are also cleaned, flowers placed and blessed by families and priests in preparation for All Souls' Day. All Saints' Day is also celebrated as the first day of winter, and is marked by bonfires and increasingly, fireworks, although this new development is criticised by the Church as being irreverent.

On All Souls' Day, the third day of Allhallowtide, a holy day and always a Sunday, all departed Christian souls are commemorated with prayers for deceased family members, and many people will leave flowers and taper candles at graves. Children and the poor will often go around to houses praying for the dead in return for a soul cake, a sort of unleavened flatbread flavoured with spices and dried fruits. Soul cakes are also left at graves, along with wine for the dead and a sixpence on graves of relatives who have died in one's lifetime. At midnight, people go to graves barefoot and kneel before the gravestones praying and burning small wooden crosses.

On the other days of Allhallowtide, church attendance is common though they are normal weekdays. On the last day of Allhallowtide, Hallow Sunday, the sixpences are collected and graveyards returned to their previous state. Poles are collected by families. Church is attended by most.

Most Deulians do not celebrate Halloween at all, although it's gaining popularity in recent years thanks to several theme parks having well-visited Halloween weeks. Halloween is mostly an adult celebration and no children go trick or treating on Halloween, due to there being a more traditional holiday called Sint-Maarten (not to be confused with an island in the Caribbean) on the 11th of November. On Sint Maarten, children go around houses with lampions asking for candy or fruit.

Most Kenmorian do not engage in Halloween and very few children trick or treat. It is mostly seen a single being a foreign festival popular with those from other countries.

In Fatatatutti you can expect trick-or-treaters at pretty much any time of the year. Tricks are rare because most Fatatatutians are generous but there have been isolated lawsuits against children for tricks gone wrong.

Costumes are more often confined to Halloween night (or close to it, since Fatatatutians have little concept of time). Fatatatutians dress for comfort and most costumes are less than ideally comfortable.

Halloween is generally celebrated, but some people celebrate Night of the Mask, which is a traditional holiday where people dress up in masks and black robes and do a traditional chant in the middle of a field. The prayers go to a certain god, and the chant is meant to give the people good luck for the following year.

Halloween itself is celebrated as usual, with costumes and Trick-or-Treating.

Halloween is celebrated in Gandoor, although there are some differences with how it's celebrated here vs the stereotypical celebrations.

The biggest difference is that there is no such thing as trick-or-treating here, as our culture considers knocking on other people's houses and asking them to give you stuff to be impolite and somewhat rude. In lieu of this, Halloween parties aimed at families act as a substitute for trick-or-treating, as kids will usually be given bags of candy to take home at these.

Another difference, also due to the lack of trick-or-treating, is that decorating the outside of houses is rare. Since Halloween is celebrated here with parties, most Halloween decorations sold in stores are intended for use indoors. Usually the most decoration the outside of houses will get is a Jack-o'-lantern or two.

Celebration of Halloween is something we LOVE. In the empire, it is tradition to dedicate it to the deity that grants such ability to even celebrate it. Although many people have asked us to help spook other people for either jokes or even help with the attractions they set up.

Since Halloween is thousands of years old, many people have completely forgotten about it. Some people still celebrate it, but it's mostly just in Sol System and early colonies.

Of course, an attack by zombies on Earth on the same date has brought some attention to the holiday.

We don't celebrate Halloween the way Americans do. We have a Fall festival where people dress like spirits and mythical creatures. There is also a lot of sweetbread and sugary drinks. Guanjo city a trading port with a lot of American influence and nationals celebrates the American way.
