A Special Election

Postby AHSCA » Wed Oct 18, 2017 2:03 pm

(ooc: If you want to attempt to covertly meddle in the election, by all means I welcome the interest, just give me a heads up. Also there may be one or two RPs going on in this thread, if you have questions you can TG Me but you're still welcome to make an open post endorsing any candidate you like)

Recently, Senator Mikela Olaff announced her intention to resign her position in the United Island Congress and has been wished well into the future. After a few potential interviews of replacements, Duchess Villa has decided to call a special open election for the vacancy. The vacancy can be appointed by Royal Decree, Special Congressional vote or open public vote. Her Majesty once again has decided to have an open public vote for a replacement and has called upon each state to submit a delegate.
The Head of Congress generally acts as Majority Leader, Speaker in some respects also acts as head of Government but is still subject to Her Majesty, the Duchess.

The Candidates

Candidates are listed in order of submission date. These are some general idea points these candidates are running on and will expand upon if elected. Of course press inquiries for much greater detail are always welcome and will be answered in a timely fashion.

Election Feed

Postby AHSCA » Wed Oct 18, 2017 2:04 pm

Candidate from Corona, Pacfica (NIP) was endorsed by the Merchant Guild of Leuda, from The Selkie.
Candidate from Animalpolis, Ain Endou (AHSCA-CP) was endorsed by Nerine Li, Leader of Carnelian Island.
Candidate from Aurora, Himiko Himemiya (NIP) was endorsed by the Government of Lamoni.
Candidate from Corona, Kaena Arorah (NLP) was endorsed by Chief Valenzuela and the government of Ilha das Tempestades.

The nation Greater Nifon (New Aeyariss) has not made an endorsement of any candidate but has commented on the current election through Radio Ishikawa, Maki Kojiro, 1st Shogun of the Empire of Greater Nifon relaid his comments.

"Of course it is not my wish to deny that the inhabitants of AHSCA and their government compared to us, but it is not my purpose to attack them due to those differences. On the contrary, I wish to show them - through good actions - that there is an alternate path they can take, in addition profiting from it. By all means the Empire of Greater Nifon respects the rights of AHCA as a state to protect it's economy - thus why the Empire of Greater Nifon wishes to offer it's opportunity as a business partner, not as a superior. It is my sincre wish that my call will be heard by the leadership of AHSCA - and something will be done about it."

UNICIM relaid this broadcast through AHSCA Radio news and directly to Her Majesty, Duchess Villa. Duchess Villa has said she would be very interested in meeting with the Honorable Shogun to discuss these matters, following the election. Candidate Pacifica is meeting personally with delegates from the Freelands to discuss their endorsement of her, while the other candidates have given their written thanks for the endorsements and hope to meet up in the near future to show their appreciation.

Index of News Coverage

King Adit Ryan visits with Candidates

With relations budding for AHSCA in the international sector, King Adit Ryan of Bengal and Assam, paid a visit to AHSCA to see the new offices of the ambassador and visit the islands. His Majesty also took the time to meet with Her Majesty Duchess Villa and the candidates pushing for their position in AHSCA's Congress.

Alfhild & Koralo Withdraw from Race

With just a couple weeks remaining in the election, we've already seen two candidates decided to call it quits in the race, Corona Candidate, Koralo and Stillstando candidate, Jonah Alfhild. Mr. Alfhild thanked his campaign team but decided the odds just weren't in his favor to win the race. Though Mr. Alfhild said he would continue seeking positions in Congress, there are rumors he may be offered an Ambassador or consul position abroad but the Foreign Relations Office has not confirmed this.

Chief Koralo also decided to withdraw for much of the same reasons, feeling the race was just lost knowing his lagging numbers in the polls. Though he had said earlier he would run the race to the finish, he is hoping his constituents who would have supported him, will instead turn their support for Kaena instead. "I hope to see the NLP regain majority control in Congress yet again." Chief Koralo has said he'll continue to focus on the needs of his home village.

To: Madame Pacifica, Corona Island, The United Island States of AHSCA.

Return Adress: Master Fynn Cuallacht of the Tribe of Westmeath, Merchant Guild of Leuda, Leuda.
Thursday, 19th of Octobre, 2017.

Madame,
it has come to the attention of the Merchant Guild of Leuda, that due to the well-deserved early retirement of Senator Olaf, the UIS is currently in the process of electing a substitute worthy of that high position. There is no doubt in the hearts and minds of the Masters of the Guild, that you, Madame Pacifica, are a suitable substitute, forseen, if not destined, to be elected.
Said Masters decided to support you in the way of finances and their support, both in word and in deed, if you wish so, out of the Willingness of their Hearts. To that end, a representative of the Guild, a certain Miss Ida Feic of the Tribe of Antrim, will arrive in the UIS in a few days to talk with you - or a chosen representative - about the particularities and especially the corresponding legal procedures as we wish for many things, but least of all to cause any trouble for you.

I hope for a quick reply,
Fynn Cuallacht of the Tribe of Westmeath,
Guild-Master for Special Wares, Merchant Guild of Leuda, Leuda
I play PT, MT and a bit FT. I am into character-RPs.

TO: Master Fynn Cuallacht of the Tribe of Westmeath, Merchant Guild of Leuda, Leuda.
FROM: Pacifica and campaign associates, State of Corona, United Island States of AHSCA

Sir,

Thank you for your correspondence to me. Senator Olaf was a respected woman and has some very big shoes to be filled and even for me, a veteran of war, it's intimidating the amount of responsibility that I must take if elected. As such having the confidence at home and abroad fills my spirit with joy that I can do this. I'm thrilled you want to talk and meet with me, as this is outside any state visit (which I'm assuming it is) there should be no legal issues but I will check with those who are helping me with my campaign to be certain, as the UIS does have very strict laws about Party members and candidates meeting high officials from other countries. I think they call it Ex parte in fanciful law terms? Well again if it only relates to my campaign, I'm certain it would be okay.

I look forward to working with you,
Pacifica.

Return Adress: Master Fynn Cuallacht of the Tribe of Westmeath, Merchant Guild of Leuda, Leuda.
Thursday, 19th of Octobre, 2017.

Madame,
we understand the importance of law and proper procedures, but you are correct, this is not a state visit, but a work-visit. Miss Feic is on her way to meet you to go over the details, flying via private jet sponsored by the Guild.
Please be advised, that she will have a security complement of one Grey Wolf with her.

With kindest of regards,
Fynn Cuallacht of the Tribe of Westmeath,
Guild-Master for Special Wares, Merchant Guild of Leuda, Leuda.

En route to the UIS.
The private jet the Guild had given her for transport was a small thing, nothing much. It was still far too large to transport her and her 'security complement', the Grey Wolf Lapa. He snored the flight away on the couch opposite to her, but that was fine by her.
Feic owned him and although he liked pettings, he was by now bored by flying, napping through it.
Sadly, she couldn't. Not because of nervousness, but because of work. She was reading up on whatever information could be found about the person they supported - military type. Feic didn't get where she was without being able to deal with them.
At swordpoint, if need be.
She doubted, that this would be necessary here.
The persons she was to contact thought, that she was a high official and in a way, she was, liason of the MGoL to the Elder Council and the City Council of Fortham, so she had a certain standing for outsiders - for Selkie, she had a standing, but it wasn't certain. As usual, it depended on the situation.
Feic could be considered a beautiful woman, long, deep-scarlet hair usually, like at the moment, bound in an intricate braid, lean frame, well trained and quite proud of it. She wasn't as... 'well equipped' as other Selkie, but she wasn't exactly flat, enough to make bringing out her Geansai worthwile. Her eyes were red-brown, more leaning towards red, her face sharply cut and almost aristocratic in its appearance - together with her neutral expression, it made for one hell of a pokerface.
She wore Geansai in Carman Fea's colours.
The aircraft shook as they touched down, then taxied to a stop.
A snap closed the file she was reading, the Grey Wolf perking up. "Showtime.", she said and rose, her 'security complement' on her heels.
I play PT, MT and a bit FT. I am into character-RPs.

Radio Ishikawa
"In his today's press conference, Kojiro-moved the matter of Nifonese-AHSCA relationships" announced the reported with an emotional voice "While Kojiro-sama refused to publicly endorse any of the candidates participating in the election, he strongly suggested them that it would be better to the mutual relations between AHSCA and the Empire of Greater Nifon if such opening took place. In Kojiro-sama's current belief, staying on the increasingly socialist path will lead AHCA to economic stagnation experienced by so many leftist economies. Instead, Kojiro-sama suggested the victorious party to consider opening it's economy to the Empire of Greater Nifon."

(A voice of Shogun Maki Kojiro is heard):

"Of course it is not my wish to deny that the inhabitants of AHSCA and their government compared to us, but it is not my purpose to attack them due to those differences. On the contrary, I wish to show them - through good actions - that there is an alternate path they can take, in addition profiting from it. It is my sincre wish that my call will be heard by the leadership of AHSCA - and something will be done about it."

(Back to the reporter)

"We have already received feedback from Murakami-daitoryo" she continues "who already offered to visit AHSCA in nearest future to debate possible deal, should the government of AHSCA be interested in it. This is Radio Ishikawa."

Tribal Council of IDT, Policy Meeting

A deluge of rain, what else do you expect in IDT the meeting called to order. Business of the nation from what to do with the needs of farmers in the south, sailors in the north everyone else in-between and of course what's going on in the world. Eyes of the nation now turning to AHSCA, a friend of IDT and rather a kindred spirit, neither in a major hurry to become one of the "normies" in the world.

Sitting on small rows of strung together straw in the placement of chairs with Valenzuela at the head of the table being the ruthless dictator she was. With the agenda turning to international affairs she called for her report from her dear sister. "Shamara what's the latest?"

"Ah right. Uuh regionally things have been quite close to home. But now AHSCA is holding a new election for their legislator."

"Humph, still relying on that foolish old system. So be it. What's the breakdown?" Only thing loathed more than monarchs were democracies by Valen. Even if they were befriend with some republics out there.

"Mmm yes, let's see. From my home island of Corona, there's three viable candidates. Many thought the Chief of that island would run but it seems she isn't. Instead we have, Pacifica a woman of military service. She's running on military, parental programs and more education."

"Last thing we need is an overly armed neighbor. Who else?"

"Kanea Arorah,"

"Aaah now I know plenty of her. " Valen replied with a glint of excitement. "She's our gal to back."

"You don't wish to hear about the others? There's a Kitsune woman running for communist party"

"Kanea Arorah is the best. Her ideals are most in line with us. AHSCA is friend but even friends can turn. An overly armed country only brings unwanted attention by bigger predatory nations. I'll write a dispatch to her and to AHSCA showing our approval."

"Yes, sister." Shamara replied and the other women of the council replied in the same affirmative.

Official Statement by Great Chief, Valenzuela,

Our friends in AHSCA,

Of course you know Ilha das Tempestades doesn't participate in the so-called democratic system but of course we always respect your sovereignty and right to do so. We know the position you are electing for holds great weight and significance in your country even if most of the power still rests with your Honorable Marcella. As neighbors and nations with minor cultural ties like our own, we feel Kanea Arorah best represents your nations culture and values you strive to maintain. We are a special breed that values the joy of life and love over racing to build the biggest bombs and cities. Madam Kanea has long showed she holds that value for her nation and wants the same. Of course whoever is elected we hope will continue to lead your nation's parliament in an effective manner and wish only the best for your fine citizens.

Our best regards,
Valenzuela
Chief and Dictator of Ilha Das Tempestades
She who is Righteous and Gracious, of the Isle of Storms

Springtime in AHSCA might not appear much differently to anyone else but for the islanders it's a world of difference. It was essentially the start of the "dry season" in AHSCA, granted how dry is pretty relative but the weather was for the most part calmer compared to the wetter monsoonal season. That meant it was prime time for an election it'd be easier for people to get their ballots in. Not to mention for some delegates, getting out to talk with their constituents or supporters. Though this election was shaping into something special with several parties taking keen interest in who was on the ballot, not before seen. AHSCA a nation written off usually as backwater now seemed to have people's attention, at least in a positive way.

Pacifica was running late for her anticipated meeting with some of her foreign supporters. The delegation from the Freelands were able to make a landing on the runway that ran parallel to the large Embassy Complex building on the island. The runway was usually reserved for arriving diplomatic staff or guests and it took quite the pulling of quite a few string by Pacifica to clear it. A veteran like herself, at least had plenty of friends still in the armed services. She shored up in her tiny little sail boat. She didn't really have time to change into anything more "congressional" she just wore her signature orange bandeau with a matching sarong wrap. Well standard to her, beachwear to everyone else probably. She felt a bit sheepish but there was so much to do. Her mad sprint up to the runway brought her to her guests. "Aaah!" She waved, hopefully not looking like a crazy person. "Helloooo--" she panted out stopping right dead center "I am very sorry if I kept you waiting. I'm-I'm Pacifica. You must be the delegation from The Freelands? It's so nice to meet you!"

Ida had read up a little bit about the UIS and, if she was honest, she expected more humidity - not that she was complaining, she wasn't too much of a fan of humidity and her companion wasn't either. What honestly surprised her was, that they at the Embassy Complex.
Somewhere in there was the Embassy of the Free Lands to the United Island States.
The woman, who waved like a madperson, wearing an orange bandeau, was well known to her, just not personally. Indeed, Madame Pacifica was an impressive and elegant person, especially due to her age... even if she appeared a bit silly right about now.
Feic, although an eyebrow twitched, not sure if it was in amusement or disdain, did not form an opinion yet. After all, first impressions could be very much deceiving.
"The pleasure is mine, Ma'am.", Ida replied and bowed her head in respect, "Indeed, we..." She looked down to her security complement, who was eying the older lady with wolfish eyes. "...are the delegation of the Merchant Guild of Leuda. Master Cuallacht sends his greetings and best of regards. My name Ida Feic of the Tribe of Antrim, this is my companion Lapa."
The Grey Wolf gave his tail a short wag, his way of saying, that he was pleased to meet Pacifica and to be finally out of the stinking aircraft.

Pacifica looked down in surprise at Lapa, pets weren't a common sight in the islands but still he was such an impressive looking creature to Pacifica she smiled back at it. "You'll have to forgive me for being so late, Ms. Feic of Antrim." Pacifica politely replied. She felt a bit unnerved now because she looked slightly agitated but maybe that was from the plane ride. "I really am sorry for being so late. No excuse for it, would have been reprimanded if I was still in the militia but those days are over I guess. But I'm so happy you decided to take an interest in my campaign and my desires to serve the country in another way. Are you hungry or thirsty maybe? There's a very nice open food court here for Embassy staff to use."

"It would be my pleasure to eat with you.", Ida said and bowed her head in respect, "Don't worry about being late, Ma'am. I am actually rather happy, that someone came to fetch me at all." A rare smile shone for but a moment. "I could tell you stories about that. After you, please."
With the gesture usually accompanying such a phrase, Ida would follow Pacifica with a small smile, Lapa on her heels. She had noted, that the lady seemed surprised by the canine, despite him being not only announced as being in her company, but also most likely the most well-known species of animal endemic to the Free Lands, most likely due to their overabundance as pets. There were enough pictures of them on the net, including those of people cuddling them.
Soon, they'd come to the matter at hand.
I play PT, MT and a bit FT. I am into character-RPs.
My people are called the Selkie, the nation is usually called the Free Lands in MT-settings. Thanks.

"Ah terrific, I'm thrilled. Yes please, come along with me, I'll lead you." The best part of the embassy island was it was all connected as it wasn't just one single building but a series of many buildings all linked. From the runway there was a side road that lead to the complex itself then inside they arrived. The commons area where people could sit and mingle in the fresh air or comfort of indoors was dotted by several small kitchens, most locally ran but a handful were from foreign nations. It didn't look like a complex that needed heavy security as much as it maybe looked like an office building or school. "I tried to get us a private room or office but this was the best I could do. May I suggest fried fish from Azure bredado. I know the cooks there we were in the same squad."

The Elfen People's Republic of Carnelian Island

COMRADES,

Our friends of the AHSCA Isles, we understand you are ready to yet again chose who will be partly be leading in your country under the eyes of your Duchess. We have taken our time to closely evaluate all potential candidates and even then this was not an easy choice as you might think it would be as we do find many of your candidates have a fair share of good ideas and good intentions when it comes to drafting the legislation for your people.

Let us get the obvious choice out of the way for starters, shall we? Ms. Indou of Animalpolis. Of course it's easy to see why she gets our glowing endorsement and recommendation but again we like to stress this was a carefully thought out choice. AHSCA and CI are not so different from each other in the end but our methods do differ and our styles of government also differ. Ms. Indou an experienced captain who has sailed to and fro our islands often has no doubt adopted many of the ideals of CI's communist system. We admire the ideas of a nationalized transit system that will be under close watch to ensure the safety of your travelers at home and abroad, a standardized system that even our islanders would feel safe on, even though sea travel will always be perilous we don't deny that. Being subject as we are to violent storms of the sea it's important to ensure you have a relief system in place to deal with that aftermath. It can be a challenge but her concept of creating a national fund to care for all these while expensive will be well worth it in the end. We would caution her against putting too much power in the hands of an elected legislation. We can't condemn you for choosing such a system it was your choice in the end, but CI holds the most effective system will always be one under a single hand, not one subject to worrying about the next election. Ms. Indou gets our endorsement but still if you'll read on allow us to comment on the other candidates.

In regards to Ms. Pacifica, by all accounts seems like a stable hard working mother and her ideas of education are interesting, she came close to also seeing an endorsement by us but we remain a little weary of her ideas of building up your national military further. We understand a stable defense is in your interest but we are worried about the unwanted attention it brings to the region. As we are among your closer neighbors outside GD's regional space and we don't rely on a military we fear carrying a big stick is like taunting an equally large animal with it.

In regards to Ms. Li. A little to market and capital driven for our liking plus she already holds the title of co-running your entire state of Hoshino with her husband who also serves in your defense agency. We must give her a pass.

In regards to Ms. Kaena Arorah, we've always had a fondness for her as she's long been serving in your government openly and proudly as a woman, a homosexual woman, a woman dedicated to the pride of your nation's culture, traditions, natural environment and always been very friendly with us. Another who came exceptionally close to getting our glowing recommendation but we disagree with her stance on education. Carnelias value education highly which is why it's integrated so highly into our way of life as you well know. We'll probably never understand why she has taken the stance of it being left as an open option in the end but alas she is who she is and that's the way she feels.

In regards to Mr. Alfhild, why a foreign born resident is allowed to seek such a high office in your government is well beyond our understanding. While we can admire his green energy proposals we feel he's too much of an outsider to understand the way your nation or our nation operates and why it does.

In regards to Mr. Koralo, once again a good candidate we feel. As you are well aware, CI only allows the faith of your people and atheism to islands. As such we would feel a tax on all faiths is more ideal than simply any outside faiths but your population is overwhelmingly Pan-Madokamism with Christians and others making up a small minority. If it's additional funds you are hoping to squeeze then, a tax on minority religions isn't going to help much, we feel it's just a general way of open suppression against dogmatic faiths of the Judeo-Christian variety, which we can hardily endorse. We feel Mr. Koralo should just be open about it and state that rather than hide behind terms but it would probably hurt him in polling. (See the troubles with an election, now?)

Finally there is Ms. Himemiya well you saw our regards to Mr. Alfhild and our feelings are the same. While we admire her education stance we feel this is a role much too great for her to fill, being an outsider. Your cultural identity and makeup is important to you and even to us, that's why we take this stance.

In Friendship,
Nerine Li

Ida nodded, then decided as she sat down with the older woman.
"I believe, that I'll follow your recommendation, Madame Pacifica.", she said and then added: "For Lapa, a bowl of water, please. He's just had lunch." Said Grey Wolf settled down by her feet, looking up with a look of betrayal, which made her ruffle his head between his ears with a small smile. "No, you're getting fat otherwise."
She took a deep breath and looked at Pacifica again, her face neutral, her hand joining its peer on the table.
"Now then...", Ida said, "If I may ask, Madame, I am quite sure, that this election, which brought us two together also drew the attention of other personage in the world - is there anyone you'd feel to be of note in that regard?"

"Coming up!" The cooks replied getting it going and handing a large bowl of water to Lapa.

"Ah yes globally there may be some interest from other nations. To be honest we're still a very small minnow in that regard. But we have nations that you could say are neighbors that will be taking an interest. First off there's our allies, Mokastana. Duchess Villa is the daughter of a Mokan man and native mother and they have quite a strong regard for them. Lamoni has taken an interest in us since they helped us in the post-war recovery years ago. If I had to guess, I'd say they'd want to see a moderate like Ms. Himemiya in with her pro-educational stance. Carnelian Island is one of our closer island neighbors, well relatively close anyway. They're quite a bit like us to be honest, we're often confused for each other. But they rely on a single-party communism state, it's easy to say their horse in this race would be Captain Indou. Finally the Tempies, from Island Tempestades. Another nation so similar to us. They're going to be harder to pin I feel to what Chief Valenzuela would like. Those are the nations I know of would very likely respond. Any others would go through the foreign office or to candidates directly."

Ida nodded.
"A bit like me, then.", she said and gave the cook a small, thankful bow of her head for the water-bowl. Her companion immediately went to work with it. "I can guarantee you, that not everyone will be at it with all of the goodness of their hearts and some will go even further then merely donating to the campaign funds. I will point at anyone or try to talk bad about any candidate or supporter, that's not what I am here for and quite frankly, it would be rather insulting... and it's not my job to uncover such dealings." She let that sink in for a moment. "You can rest assured, though, that the Merchant Guild of Leuda will not try any cheap tricks. We'll do this in accordance to every right and law the UIS and the Free Lands have - one of the reasons why I'm here."

Two plates of freshly fried fish and one small extra of charred for Pacifica were laid before them. "I hope to avoid the seedy side of the democratic system myself, with as many that are taking an interest in us."

Ida bowed her head in gratitude to the waiter who brought them their food, before turning back to Pacifica.
"The Masters will be very pleased to hear, that you will be careful with the... less open elements of the system. You might feel outclassed at some points, but I urge you to not let that discourage you and to not initiate measures, that everyone involved would regret. Yes, they might be more experienced at this game, but you can still win honestly and fairly. And we'll make sure of that. Completely legal, of course.", she said and gave a small, polite smile. "Please excuse for a moment, I would like to have a short moment for a table-prayer."

Ida smiled in gratitude and then lowered her head, closing her eyes.
The next words coming out of her mouth were in her native tongue, a short prayer to Carman Fea - a merchant's prayer, which was, to many foreigners, rather unusual in combination with that diety. After all, Carman Fea was known as the Goddess of War and Science to many abroad, not as the Goddess of Merchants, but indeed, in one of her functions, she was Goddess of Diplomacy, Medicine and Commerce, although the latter together with her partner Ladra.
It served as a good example as to why foreigners, before they attempted to understand foreign cultures, should learn about them. Even as War-Goddess, she was not one for mindless slaughter, but for tactics and strategy, cunning and logistics.
As she was finished, she smiled at Pacifica. "Thank you, Ma'am. Please, go ahead.", she said.

Ida nodded and bowed her head.
"Let's eat.", she agreed and prepared a bite, before putting it into her mouth. She couldn't exactly describe the taste, but the fried fish was, in short, amazing. She nodded and, as she had finished with the bite and swallowed, pointed at the fish with her fork. "Very good. My compliments to the chef - seems to me like you raised him to be a good cook. Reminds me of a fish I had in Conall Curach, that's a bit closer to the Northern Polar Circle then the Mainland."

"Ah!" She turned to shout to the kitchen. The women were seated on a table against some windows looking out into a court yard with the kitchens lined up just meere inches from them "Hey Tondro, she likes your fish!"

"Aaah you are a woman of very good taste then! Why Pacifica likes her crisped I don't know!"

"Well you like yours raw so we all have our taste!" She turned back to Ida "He's a good guy, the chef is. Truth is were he not married and if not...." She stopped herself suddenly looking a little sullen "Ah sorry I'm getting into memories again. Anyway, Miss, actually can I call you just Ida? I'll respect if you wish me to be more formal but I'd like to be a little more casual."

Ida hid her thought process behind a smile because of the amusing behaviour a few moments before and a bite of the delicious fish. She really thought it over... usually, she preferred formal ways of addressing each other during business and usually, her opposite site did so as well.
But something... something about this lady set her at ease.
"If you prefer it, sure.", she said after swallowing. Maybe, as much as this country was a new experience for her, she could gather a few new experiences as well - after all, one never ceased to learn.
