The Federation is on it's last leg and carrying it's last hope is an old style Kestrel Cruiser of which you are a crew member. You have information that must reach the Federal fleets assembling to combat the rising rebel tide that is sweeping the galaxy. If the Federal Armada is unable to push the Rebels back the galaxy shall belong to them.
PART TWO:
Part two's topic will be determined by the Kenstral's Success or Failure. If they fail, and time remains the task might fall upon another federal craft or the rebels will win.

LORE
The Galactic Federation is an alliance of the known species of the galaxy. Once a prominent peacekeeping and exploratory force the Federation suffered during the Federation-Mantis War which saw the alien fleets invade the Earth. In the aftermath of this conflict a war has broken out with in the federation with most believing the rebels to have already won control.
The Federation has in recent times failed miserably to keep the peace and pirates run amok. They where unable to prevent an invasion of Earth by the Mantis as the most capable Federal fleets where off defending alien worlds. Due to this a call for a tighter galactic government has been made and the call heeded by a Human centrist group dedicated to heavy handed keeping of the peace through military prominence. This group has declared it's self to be a new Galactic Government and most of the galaxy has fallen into it's influence.
This timeline is provided to assist players in creating a bio. If anyone has event ideas mention them below so we can expand the lore of this custom continuity. This is currently a work in progress and events before 0 FE will likely be dated differently in the near future.
Key: FE = Federal Era
Key: FE = Federal Era
- -850 FE The first FTL Drive is installed on the United Nations Star Ship Columbo, the ship vanishes on it's maiden voyage after mapping sectors for Human colonization.
- -827 FE The Earth becomes a more united entity with executive, judicial, and legislative branches of goverment. The Head of State is titled Chancellor.
- -800 FE The Engi and Zoltan Races note a common heritage during this era and form a long standing alliance.
- -753 FE Earth's Government retitles the Head of State President and sees some renewal of FTL Research.
- -725 FE The first example of a Zoltan Sheild, which is recharged via FTL is recorded. The origin of Zoltan FTL however remains a mystery and seems to have always been with their species.
- -711 The Zoltan make contact with the Slugs who by that time where already trans-versing the stars.
- -600 FE Humans launch a second starship, the USS Incognito with the aim of escorting a privately produced colony ship to the sectors last explored by the Columbo and if possible discovering it's fate.
- -554 FE - The Rockmen of Vrachos IV are encountered by Humans who provide them with the basis of star travel. The Rockmen take to the technology quicker then expected and claim some of the world slated for Human colonization. Earth's Government forbids further tampering with a none Star Faring species.
- -500 FE The Humans encounter the Engi
- -457 FE The Humans and Engi form an alliance.
- 0 FE The Zoltan, Humans, and Engi establish the Federation.
- 12 FE The Federal Navy is commissioned by the Federal Council. Humans support the proposal, while Engi and Zoltan remain split. The Zoltan see a need for a policing force in the Galaxy but have typically seen themselves in that role.
- 50 FE The Slugs are admitted into the Federation, despite Zoltan disapproval.
- 120 FE The Rockmen volunteer to join the Federation, no other member objects to this.
- 200 FE Federation Cruiser Elpis beams a party down to a jungle world they assume to have no intelligent life. The party goes missing, and a rescue party is sent out. Contact with the Elpis is lost shortly after reporting the sending of a rescue party.
- 201 FE The Elpis degrades in orbit and crashes into the primative world, presumably it was destroyed.
- 300 FE A new alien race, the Mantis emerge from the sector the Elpis was exploring 99 years ago and comense to raid Engi Settlements. The Engi request federal aid only to discover that the once uninhabited sector was now filled with Mantis colonies. The mantis war begins.
- 324 FE The Mantis invade the Earth consuming dozens of captured Humans and destroying major cities. Earth's Government resorts to the use of Pesticides and cause the Mantis to flee. Federal fleets arrived just in time to catch the tail end of the Mantis fleet. The use of chemical warfare against a sentient race comes to the Federal Council, and despite it's efficiency is voted as 'cruel' and banned by member states. Earth's representative votes for the ban on the use of such weapons, and is criticized by many on Earth.
- 384 FE The Mantis Wars come to a close thanks to Zoltan ambassadors but Mantis Privateers continue to raid Engi and Human settlements.
- 387 FE The Pesticides used to defend the Earth proved to have long lasting effects on it's ecology, and starvation rules. Aid is requested from the Federation but the rest of the galaxy is in similar shape. The request is declined but Earth's Government is recommended to seek private aid.
- 390 FE The faction that becomes the Rebellion gains power on Earth and spear heads the insurgence.
- 394 FE The CIVL WAR Officially Begins
- 395 FE The current date.
RACES
NOTICE: You may use what ever image you like for your character as the game's graphics beneficially leave much to the imagination. This includes the images used below.
Presumably you are familiar with them already. Most rebels are Humans and Humans appear to captain most Federal star ships.
Though their current home planetary systems are well documented, the true origins of the emotionless Engi are a mystery; it is known that the majority of their bodies are made from trillions of nanomachines, which give the illusion of a silvery 'skin' with a metallic sheen, and that they can adopt different shapes to better cope with their environment, although they generally maintain a humanoid form, which most other races are habitually more comfortable with. The Engi also wield powerful knowledge of machinery, and are generally natural mechanics - especially when they're only expected to service and repair comparatively primitive human technology. While the Engi are extremely intelligent, their primarily robotic body composition is very fragile. The delicate and very technical inner workings of an Engi are not nearly as rugged as regular organic material, like that found in humans. As a result, Engi usually make poor fighters; however, their immaculate knowledge of mechanics coupled with their immunity to most diseases as a result of their cybernetic bodies can make them excellent allies. The Engi still require oxygen to survive despite their mostly robotic makeup. The many scientific anomalies of the Engi have been points of contention between human scientists for years; they argue incessantly over whether the Engi are organic lifeforms by definition, or rather sentient machines. Most accept the notion that they are a bridge between the two.
Despite a nonaggression pact with the Rebels, the Engi are the strongest supporters of the Galactic Federation, and have been secretly aiding them when possible. They consider reestablishing the Federation to be the highest priority. In addition to the Federation, the Engi are allies of the Zoltan. Since the collapse of the Federation they have been preyed upon incessantly by the Mantis, who regard them as ideal slaves.
The violent and hostile Mantis appear, to Humans anyway, to resemble man-sized Praying Mantises, although they are much more aggressive than their namesakes. Whereas praying mantises kill prey merely to survive, the much larger and more intelligent Mantis race kill remorselessly to suit their own personal agendas- usually without survival as a concern, making for a pitiless and brutal insectoid warrior species. Adding to their fearsome reputation is their disregard for individual loses on their side- disregard that has evolved from their mating habits. While humans and most other species have manufactured handheld weaponry to utilize in combat, the Mantis usually default to their agility, and sharpened exoskeletal appendages to tear through their enemies, and their skill as warriors goes almost unchallenged in 1v1 combat even against the rock species. The Mantis also possess extremely acidic saliva which can burn through flesh and melt most metal alloys. While Mantis excel at combat, especially personal combat, they are the least adept of all the races at technical repairs. They have overcome this problem by frequently taking Engi slaves. Engi slaves can be found on a majority of their bases and ships. Though some individual Mantises have been known to work with the Galactic Federation, the race as a whole tends to be deceptive, opportunistic and untrustworthy, and can commonly be found piloting their signature style of well armed spacecraft, hunting down weaker enemies in pursuit of their belongings. Human children are told tales of their red ships, and of the Mantis invasion of Earth.
The Rockmen, as they have been nicknamed by humans originated on Vrachos IV and are called so because of their unique skin which according to scientific experiments can be nearly as hard and rugged as solid rock. Additionally, the Rockmen are extremely well conditioned and physically strong to compensate for their thick rock-like skin, giving them an astounding resilience. As a result of their physical attributes, the Rockmen have evolved throughout their race's existence into a warrior race which values personal strength and martial prowess over nearly everything else.
These telepathic Slugs were shunned in the Galactic Federation for their constant thievery and attempts at manipulation. Their home sectors are all engulfed in enormous nebulae, which lead to them evolving unique psychic abilities in order to overcome the general lack of visibility. As a result, Slug ships aren't built with sensors; the psychic powers of the crew are just as effective, if not more so, than any electronic system.
With the majority of their bodies composed of pure, harnessable energy, the Zoltan are ambivalent towards the Galactic Federation. Whilst a deeply officious and obtuse people, they generally favour diplomacy over acts of aggression and are known for being fair and just in their dealings with others. Due to their alliance with the Engi, Zoltans often appear in Engi Homeworlds or the various Engi-Controlled Sectors of space, although they inhabit their own home systems as well. Being ingenious experts of technology, the Zoltan race pioneered a unique ship-based shielding technology which can be found on nearly every Zoltan vessel. These shields are very difficult to breach, however they cannot regenerate during a battle - unless a Shield Overcharger drone is deployed. Therefore, once they are impacted by enemy fire enough to deactivate them, Zoltan vessels must rely on conventional shielding systems. They and the Engi control many sectors, but they themselves are rarely seen outside them.
