Let's Write a History Together

Postby The Federation of Kendor » Sat Sep 30, 2017 7:33 am

Welcome to the history game. Basically, you must write a part of history, in collaboration with other people. To give you an idea, this is like the dead Let's Create a World's History Together thread (where you must write a post containing an event that happened in a specific date). First, you must write the date first (it can be year, month, or day. It can also be a single date or ongoing event). Then, you must write the events that happened. The history written can either be our alternate history world, or a fictional world with original settings. I start:

Edit: If you want to do certain major actions, like adding new continents or concepts, such as mahics, magitek, etc, you will have to get my permission first by TG'ing me. This is to prevent the thread from becoming messed up.

Lore:

History Summary:

1 VY (Violet's Year)/10 AD (AD doesn't actually exist in this world. It's just written to give you a picture on the tech level of this world at the moment)

Many people, amounting in 5.000 and escaping from their old continent, called Maxium, decided to settle a new continent, called Violetine, after a town in Maxium, named Fernar and belonging to the nation of Yarner, was sacked by an army from Maxen. The people formed a new city in Violetine, in a peninsula that have many rivers, fertile areas, plants, and animals, as well as many ither resources. The city is called New Fernar.

(Finally this is rebooted!)

46 VY

The refugees named the peninsula Sifernar, and themselves Sifernarites. As the years progressed, they began exploring, expanding, progressing, and by the end of 46 VY, the city of New Fernar becomes more or less a quite big, but still small, city.

(Correct me if I am wrong.)

Sifenar-Violetine receives another gout of immigrants. It seems that news from home has it that the Maxen is on the verge of defeating Yarner, and their army besieges the capital.
This mostly results in New Fernar being disgruntled: After all, this was the nation that drove them away destroying their old home.

The immigrants, culturally similar to the Sifenarite-Violetines, settle nearby in their own small towns, but are independent. None of the towns are anywhere as large as New Fernar, but the sudden settling of so much land is aggravating.

In 56 VY, The Sifernarites began to weaponize themselves in case of these Yarnerite 'bastards' as they say, decide to take over Sifernar for their greedy selves. New Fernar experiences a population boom, while waves of Yernarite refugees come to Sifernar. This may as well escalate into a conflict in this new world that known no human blood spilt (maybe), with the tensions rising.

OOC: My suggestions;
1) No magic (if there is, limit it to very minor psychic events, no large ones.)
2) Limiting the number of continents.
3) Going with Rule 1, no magitek (and as such, no mechs in the time of 100 VY or so).

Ironically, this comes from the guy that brought magic and magitek into the original thread.

Okay. Let me say a few things.

2) I, God-Emperor Damien Quartz, is a human Eldritch Abomination.
3) Apparently the sig was too big, so I cut 98% of it.
4) Apathy is as chocked with bull as Hammer Britannia. Why? Because we were based off of them!

If we're going to give ideas I would like to add in
1) Maybe have a post dedicated to basic information, to maintain consistency? Even if it's perfectly understandable to not know the entire lore because trawling 5 pages of large posts is too much of a task, it would be nice to have some basic pointers. Even a basic post on what continents exist and what's on them is good
2) I honestly thought it was the number of settings that was the issue. The real problem was having each setting be its own thing, so if someone wanted to advance the world instead of a single setting there would be like 9 separate, unrelated scenes to write out, and we had to keep track of all of them

I'm a bit leery on telling people what to do, tho'

The Sifernarites invented a form of ruling that gives all the members of a society to have equal footing, in contrast to the Yarners' monarchy. They created a group for this, called the Council. The Council holds power over the people, but the people can oust them if necessary.

Besides that, the Sifernarites allied with the natives of the land to destroy the Yarners, and is still building up their military.

The councillor who attempted the coup was arrested, and after quite some time of discussion in the New Fernar Forum, the councillor was exiled. The Sifernarites now try to make a union between the natives of Sifernar, to better fight the Kon Horde and the new Kingdom of Yarner. And they are still making advances to up their military strength.

The Kons' horde sweeps through the peninsula, taking advantage of the political instability of the native Sifernarites brought on by their civil war. Various Sifernarite settlements are burned and pillaged. The united force formed between the new settlers and the native Sifernarites are strategically defeated at the Battle of Vanar, a major Sifernarite town and their leaders are put to the sword. The Horde reaches the gates of New Fernar and demand that the king surrenders his crown. New Fernar refuses and the Kons besiege the city.

You simply read glimpses of some posts, particularly mine, didn't you? Here's some points from my posts:
1) New Fernarians (which I repeatedly call Sifernarites by accident) tries to stabilize the peninsula.
2) New Fernarians are upping their military strength to face two warmonger civilizations.
3) New Fernar is an oligarchic democracy. There is no king.

The Decade Siege fails to shatter Fernar. Free to bring in food from the sea and mostly unthreatened by amateur naval blockades, Fernar makes it through mostly okay. Hundreds still died during yearly fish migrations, but thousands remain. Outside, plague and the ravaged lands outside Fernar decimate the overconfident Kon horde, who were expecting a quick surrender.

The Kon retreat with their army shattered by attrition, and soldiers emerge from Fernar to a heavily weakened and vulnerable land. Kon learned much from the siege, however, and they are still an amorphous threat beyond the peninsula.

Also Fernar gets really pro at fishing and seafaring

As the population of the city recovers from the Decade Siege, New Fernar seeks riches beyond the Sifernarite Peninsula. An expedition is sent to explore the interior of the continent. In the meantime, colonists are sent out from the city in order to relieve overcrowding. They found new towns near New Fernar and slowly spread Fernarian influence beyond the city state.

120 VY/129 AD

The Yarners were attacked by the Fernarians, and although they should have anticipated it, they were too busy working on their cities to care about the Fernarians' military buildup. Although the Yarners had fought hard, they fell quickly due to their lack of experience in war; the only ones that do are either dead or senile.

Part of the Fernarians' expedition have traveled to a part of Violetine in the east, and the natives seemed to be unthreatening and willing to trade with them. The natives called themselves Aldacians, and their country Aldacia. Despite their friendliness, they have a lot of strong warriors ready to defend their country in case of an attack. Due to this newfound country, the part – which is also a peninsula, like Sifernar – is called the Aldacian peninsula.

OOC: Oh well. I guess the Democratic country can be Aldacia. Aldacia has a Greek culture btw, and is a democracy (oligarchic), and stronger than New Fernar.

The power structure crystallizes once more, with Fernar holding onto its main city and a couple dozen towns. The other hundred or so Yarner towns re-coalesce into small kingdoms, perhaps a dozen towns each. Although they aren't very united and skirmishes are common, they all know who the real threat is.'

Aldacian trade continues, although Kon nomads are always a threat, and grow in number every year. Hilariously, some aspects of the Kon religion, the worship of the Encompassing Stallion, make their way to Yarner and Fernar. Their religion revolves around the plains and their horses. Kon priests, known as Horse Spawn, are experts in both herbalism and animal husbandry, often sought out by nobles and villages to help harvests and rear strong horses.

136-140 YV

The winter of 135 YV is exacerbated by a period of distant heavy volcanic activity. The following year is known as the "Summerless Year". Large scale crop and livestock failure cause great hardships for New Fernar, Aldacia, and Kon settlements. An estimated 10% of the population of each group perishes as a result of this. Horse Spawn claim that the cold and famine are the result of impiety and and a malevolent being known as "Wotak". They claim that Wotak's servants are perpetuating the cold and thousands are burned because of baseless accusations against them.

Trade grounds to a halt and Aldacian settlements adopt a more sedentary lifestyle. The retired statesman and scholar Dokar founds a large library in the Aldacian city of Wajibil for the purpose of collecting more knowledge on the change in weather. He later extends this to all knowledge in general. He is the first to propose that the cold is as a result of volcanic activity in Volentine.

The worst year of the winter so far. Rains are stained by volcanic ash, which continues to cloud the sky. Harvests have failed for several years in a row. The Kon eke by, their horses capable of finding what little grass remains. New Fernar is probably doing the best: they cut holes in the sea ice for fishing. Aldacia and the Yarner are doing the worst, with their numerous population centers starving quickly. Aldacia essentially stops contacting the Sibernite peninsula.

Hilariously, Horse Spawn, despite killing thousands of supposed Wotak-consorters, are pivotal for surviving the famine. Extending their knowledge to winter plants, they allow many towns to pull through the leanest years.

155VY-161 VY

The Long Frost ends. All the civilizations settle in for a long period of recovery, even as natural disasters batter the South.

Kon reveals itself to have been far, far larger than anyone imagined: nomads range the entire continents, often barely connected by language and certainly not by political structures. The Worship of the Encompassing Stallion connects most of the nomads.

New Fernar is fastest on the road to recovery, having weathered the storm by fishing extensively.

Yarner, having adopted fishing in the past, has also begun to recover. They are still threatened by New Fernar.

Aldacia was heavily battered, but they have the manpower to recover.

Vei, a new and fragile nation, is in tatters as city states fight for resources.

Maxen, from the Old Continent, arrives in New Fernar by ship. They seek trade, and many speculate that it is because they need money, for something.

Kalerita, founded by old nomads who saw the futility of trying to herd in the thick forests of Aritia, actually isn't doing that badly. The forest can be bountiful.

The Lingpor empire is being heavily harassed by Kon nomads, even as the devastated country loses more and more people to famine.

OOC: this was more of a post to categorize all the settings
